Take That have been revealed as one of the headliners set up to perform at the F1 75 2025 season launch on Tuesday February 18. The event will consist of all ten racing teams unveiling their new drivers and cars in front of the packed arena to celebrate the championship’s 75th anniversary.

The 15,000 fans in the arena will enjoy the incredible spectacle up close, and fans at home won’t miss out either, with Formula 1 broadcasters from around the globe confirming they will televise the event live. It will also be streamed for free on F1’s social media channels, including Youtube.

A source told The Sun: “Formula 1 fans are in for a massive treat at the O2. Not only will they be seeing the cars and drivers up close, but Take That will be playing. There are some other big-name stars booked, too. It is the first time in Formula 1 history that they’ve put on an event like this and it’s all to celebrate 75 years of the sport. The organisers think Take That will really lift the event.”

This is set to be an eventful few days for the Mancunian band as they’re also set to perform at the BAFTA Film Awards on February 16.

Gary, Howard and Mark will be back on the road later this year with a world tour for their latest album ‘This Life’. The trio is set to grace the stage without former bandmates Jason Orange and Robbie Williams. Where the latter went onto release a four-part series released on Netflix back in 2023, deep diving into his time in Take That from the age of 16 up until his exit. Williams speaks openly about his time as a performer as well as his mental state at the time, leaving the band five years after joining due to his issues with addiction and alcoholism.

The singer has since then released a biopic movie called Better Man where he explained the reason why he decided to showcase himself as a monkey. In an interview with BBC, he said: “I’m just like a performing monkey or I’m up the back like a performing monkey”.

The internationally renowned Fringe Festival in Edinburgh opens its doors to the 2021 edition. Like all the public gatherings, the event was canceled in 2020 because of the Coronavirus pandemic. However, organisers are ready to get things going for this year, with the event running for the usual three and half weeks, from August 6th until August 30th. Registrations for the audience, venues, and acts are set to be opened from May 5th.

The Fringe Society is clearly taking into consideration the pandemic and is therefore preparing for a peculiar festival, which includes socially distanced live events and digital experiences. ‘We’re delighted to be able to open registration for 2021,’ Chief Executive of the Fringe Society, Shona McCarthy, said in a statement. ‘Of course, we’re still very much in planning mode as we await further updates from the Scottish Government, but this feels like a hugely positive step in the right direction.

‘Through the work being created across the various digital platforms, including the Fringe Player, artists have a brilliant opportunity to reach audiences and communities all over the world. I look forward to seeing how our Fringe creatives use these platforms in 2021 and beyond.’ Indeed, the Fringe Player platform will be launched this year, aiming at bringing the festival across the world, in the comfort of the audience’s own home. In this way, artists will be showcased on a secure platform, and companies and artists will be able to organise and host shows even if another lockdown was about to happen.

Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon claimed to be ‘optimistic’ about returning back to normal in regards to nightlife ‘over the summer’, with live events resuming in Scotland from the 17th of May. However, all Fringe’s registered performances will still need to adhere to the Scottish Government the public health and safety guidance.

Boris Johnson has announced today, a four-step road map plan to get out of lockdown and have things go ‘back to normal’. The Prime Minister has set out a way to ease the restrictions the UK is currently in and aim to ‘remove all legal limits on social contact’ by June 21st 2021. This means that large concerts, festivals and tours could start up again by late June, allowing music venues to start planning gigs that will definitely be going ahead. Read a summary of the full plan below or the full plan here.

BREAKING: The 4 steps to lifting lockdown in England.

There will be weeks between each step: 4 weeks to reflect on the data followed by 1 week notice to be given to relevant sectors and the public. pic.twitter.com/7RTql0pV7S

Music Venue Trust Mark Davyd has stated the the governments road map plan has given the organisation the go-ahead to begin ‘imagining how we revive live music in grassroots music venues and develop that work into the full return of the domestic music scene.’

From the 17th May, large performances up to a capacity of 1,000 people or half-full (whichever is lower for the venue) will be allowed. This could mean that smaller music venues and theatres will be allowed to put on shows and gigs to small crowds. This follows on from Johnsons discussion last week of having rapid testing for music venues and nightclubs to ensure these parts of the sector can open as they were unable to last year. Out-door venues of 4,000 people will also be allowed, or at hall-full capacity – whichever is lower.

Many in the music industry have called out to the government and Johnson to ensure that the music sector is not forgotten and supported equally throughout the rest of the pandemic. Greg Parmley, the CEO of LIVE has stated “While it is good to get some clarity following almost a year of confusion, as predicted our £4.5 billion industry is at the back of the queue to reopen. Any return to normality for live music could be months behind the rest of the economy. The Chancellor must acknowledge our extended closure in the Budget and provide the economic support needed to ensure the jobs and livelihoods of the hundreds of thousands of people that work in our industry exist as we come through this pandemic.”

This includes extending the current 5% rate VAT on tickets sales, which was discussed to be risen to 20%, financially hurting those in live music extensively. Similarly, David Martin CEO of Featured Artists Coalition agrees with Parmley stating ‘there is some way to go’. Acknowledging a slower approach was correct, Martin said “the government should learn from its “slow response on income support and other financial assistance” last year.”

Smaller festivals such as Maiden Voyage have been 100% confirmed to go ahead by the government. Maiden Voyage have stated that they have been given ‘provisional confirmation from the government that our festival will be going ahead as planned this year.’

This morning, MP’s on [DCMS] The Department of Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee met with Boomtown and Parkline festival organisers to discuss the future of music festivals in the summer of 2021 and whether in-person events will be possible considering the growing safety concerns around the Covid-19 pandemic and especially now with the new UK variant of the disease forcing the country into another national lockdown. Organisers asked for government support and help to protect festivals, despite the Covid-19 virus, considering the many jobs lost and money lost in the music industry in 2020.

Parklife’s co-founder Sacha Lord explained his concerns in a statement, saying that if the government don’t help with insurance then the smaller festivals are going to drop away. Lord described that mass testing and vaccines would be necessary to allow these events to go forward, stating that social distancing does not work at any of these events. It’s a festival. You just cannot put social distancing in place. Lord continued with a optimism for the summer of 2021 and fate of the festivals saying that at that time they are anticipating that we will be operating at 100 percent.

Anna Wade, director at Boomtown, stated that festival organisers would be in financial ruin if they are unable to hold their events this summer, adding on to Parklife’s plea for insurance to go to organisers and vaccinations for festival goers. When regarding whether Parklife and Boomtown will be successful in their pleas for open doors and government financial help, this morning Steve Heap, the general secretary of the Association of Festival Organisers said that decisions made for larger music festivals will have to be decided by the end of this month, whereas decisions for smaller festivals won’t be required until later in April.

UK Music’s Jamie Njoku-Goodwin brought light to the need for these financial decisions to be made early, especially before Easter, saying that while this pandemic is still raging and continues to cause devastation to lives and livelihoods today, there is an endpoint in sight. Government is rolling out the vaccine and is openly speculating about returning to normal by the spring, but there is a serious risk that even if this proves to be a reality, lack of notice and available insurance options will mean much of the 2021 summer music season can’t go ahead.

The hearing can be streamed on parlimentlive.tv after airing this morning at 10am, featuring more information of the details of the financial pleas for which Parklife, Boomtown Fair and UK Music have issued to MP’s on he Department of Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee. Information on whether they will be successful, regarding only large festivals this summer, will be available by the end of this month January 2021 and will hold the future of the UK’s live-music events for the foreseeable future.

London’s iconic The 100 Club was forced to postpone all planned December gigs with the capital moving into Tier 3 from Wednesday 16 December. The announcement came yesterday after Health Secretary Matt Hancock confirmed that London should tighten all safety measures to respond to the rapid rise of positive COVID-19 cases following the end of the second nation-wide lockdown from November. Taking it to social media, the renowned central London venue used the opportunity to thank everyone that has supported the club recently, and issued the following statement:

“Our thanks goes to everyone who has bought tickets, supporting the 100 Club and it’s staff. The few shows we have been able to put on in December have been a rare ray of relief for us all. For existing ticket holders, you will be notified when re-scheduled dates are confirmed. If you would like to be refunded, please contact your ticket provider.” (WeGotTickets)

Following the updated Government guidelines, Tier 3 stands for Very High Alert and specifies that “hospitality settings, such as bars (including shisha bars), pubs, cafes, restaurants, and social clubs must close except for takeaway, delivery and click and collect services“. For venues like The 100 Club, this means immediate cancelation of all festive events planned for the foreseeable future. Many local pubs and small entertainment venues tried to return to their planned calendar runs after London resumed its normal life at the beginning of December, but saw those plans put into hold after positive testing peaked yet again in the capital and Wednesday marked the return to another period of tighter measures.

For December, The 100 Club had a busy month planned ahead, trying to end 2020 on a high note. The cancelled events are R&B band Moa Moa (16 & 18 Dec), singer-songwriter Billy Locket (17 Dec), and the ‘Absolute Bowie’ tribute show (19 Dec), with all rescheduled dates to be confirmed. The tribute to the punk veterans The Cramps and gothic legends Bauhaus by Teenage Warewolves, She’s In Bauhaus and Kitten Deville has been moved to 13 June 2021. Moreover, the upcoming gig by Chantel McGregor and Erja Lyytinen has been moved all the way to 4 February 2022.

In order to adapt to the changing times, The 100 Club opened as a regular bar for the first time last Monday 14 December. For just £2 visitors were able to book a table and enjoy a drink without the need of a substantial meal and enjoying music by Dj Never Heard Of Ya. The miracle did not last long with the club now forced to close in light of Tier 3 guidelines. However, next month The 100 Club are set to pilot a brand new Pathogen Reduction System supported by the Musc Venue Trust. The invention is set to clear 99% of the infectious airbourne pathogens, including coronavirus.

Despite having to shut for the foreseeable as London is now placed in Tier 3, we’re pleased to announce that we’ll be trialling the Pathogen Reduction System (PRS) next month in addition to a new “Test Clean Prevent” (TCP) system along with @musicvenuetrust. pic.twitter.com/jqy8RJVETl — The 100 Club (@100clubLondon) December 16, 2020

Located at 100 Oxford Street at the very heart of London, the iconic music venue was opened in 1942 and has been operating as the beating heart of the capital’s punk rock scene ever since. The club used to offer its stage to the likes of the Sex Pistols, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Clash, The Stranglers and The Damned, and has remained a bastion of quality live music with more recent memorable performances by Alice Cooper, Shame, The Specials, Idles and Sleaford Mods.

The 100 Club is set to return to scheduled live events on 8th and 9th February 2021 with their Resolution 2021 punk festival events featuring The Vibrators and TV Smith.

Manchester’s Parklife festival, which is held annually in June, has announced that it will take place from September 11-12th 2021. The event which has an 80,000 capacity, was cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The festival will take place in the city’s Heaton Park and was originally scheduled for the 12-13th June, but after ongoing concerns that have arisen from the pandemic, this has been pushed back to later in the year.

The 2020 edition which was cancelled in March, was due to host performances by musical talent such as Lewis Capaldi, Skepta, Robyn and Tyler and The Creator. NME reported that after the festival was cancelled, organisers promised a return in 2021 to be ‘Stronger than ever,’ before releasing the June 2021 dates this August.

Music Week have noted the statement given by the festival organisers saying, “With all the good recent news, we’re now looking ahead to 2021, and a return to the fields and good times we all love,” said a statement on the festival’s website. “It’s a party two years in the making that we all deserve. It’s why with that in mind that we have decided to move next year’s festival to the new dates of 11th-12th September, so we can be sure of the good times coming. A huge line-up is almost ready, that we can’t wait to show you in January. Trust us when we say it’s going to be worth the wait.”

The CEO of Live Nation, Michael Rapino told NME in a recent interview that he expects a “robust, outdoor Summer season,” for the live music industry upon it’s return next year. He mentioned that the ‘Download Festival’ and ‘Isle of Wight Festival’ were already ahead in their ticket sales than the previous year. “Importantly, we remain confident that fans will return to live events when it is safe to do so,” he wrote. “Our strongest indicator of demand is that fans are holding on to their tickets, even when given the option of a refund.” He added, “Our expectations for a robust outdoor summer season in 2021 are also reinforced by the two-thirds of fans keeping their tickets for cancelled festivals so they can go to next year’s show, along with strong early ticket sales for festivals in the UK next summer,”

Manchester Parklife is a independent music festival that began in 2010 and was co founded by Sacha Lord. It began in Platt Fields Park in Rusholme, but as the numbers increased with the festivals popularity in 2013, the festival moved to Heaton Park In North Manchester. It is now jointly organised by other groups which include ‘Live Nation’ and ‘The Warehouse Project.’

As the return of 2000 spectators at outdoor sports events is now in place, festival organisers will be keen to know the governments plans for outdoor music events next Summer so that they can begin to put measures in place, to allow a safe environment for the festivals to go ahead. With ticket sales still booming for live music events, it is clear that the public are eagerly waiting for this news, along with those that work in the live music sector.

Ticketmaster have denied claims that they want to it to be mandatory for audiences to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Claims came out this week that the company said audience members would be required to prove that they were vaccinated or had a negative COVID-19 result in order to attend events.

The story came from Billboard Magazine, who said the company wanted to use smartphones to verify fans were COVID free. This comes following news that drug company Pfizer had announced that it had developed a coronavirus vaccine which, in preliminary tests, was 90% effective.

Exclusive: How Ticketmaster plans to check your vaccine status for concerts https://t.co/A0wEC1uxbO

— billboard (@billboard) November 11, 2020

Ticketmaster have clarified in a statement to the BBC that they “are not forcing anyone to do anything” and the plan they had discussed with Billboard was just an idea they were exploring in order to bring live music back to it’s full capacity in the near future, after the music industry was basically destroyed by the ongoing global health crisis.

In a statement Ticketmaster have said; “Ticketmaster does not have the power to set policies around safety/entry requirements, which would include vaccines and/or testing protocols. That is up to the discretion of the event organiser. Ticketmaster continues to work with event organisers on all Covid safety measures and it will be up to each event organiser to set future requirements, based on their preferences and local health guidelines.”

According to the Billboard article Ticketmaster’s plan which would involve their own ticket app, third party health information firms and vaccine distribution providers. After purchasing a ticket, fans would need to verify they had been vaccinated or had tested negative for coronavirus 24 to 72 hours before a concert or sporting event. Test results would be delivered to a health pass company, such as CLEAR or IBM, at fans’ request, who would pass the information to Ticketmaster. If they are negative or vaccinated, Ticketmaster would issue digital tickets via their app, if positive, a fan would not be allowed access.

There was a mixed reaction to these claims. Some people welcomed the plan as it meant they would be allowed to get back into the world quicker and back to live music. Others felt that this was an invasion of privacy and that Ticketmaster shouldn’t have access to your medical records. It is important to note that in this plan, Ticketmaster would not have access to medical records and would only receive verifications of whether a fan could attend an event or not.

People took to Twitter to share their opinions, US political commentator, Liz Wheeler said; “This is so creepy to require people to show proof of COVID vaccine. You shouldn’t have to reveal private health info in order to participate in society.” On the other hand, another person said; “I saw a tweet yesterday that said “Ticketmaster are gonna require a negative covid test or vaccine proof for concerts” and I was like THAT IS FINE JUST BRING THEM BACK. I miss seeing my friends and losing it together over our faves.”

Am I the only person that doesn’t have an issue with Ticketmaster requesting a COVID test or a vaccine? They’re not telling anybody to do anything, it’s completely your choice. I for one would like to enjoy concerts again and feel safe rather than panic about being in a crowd.
