The Ivor Novello Awards recognise excellence in British and Irish songwriting and composition for the screen. The award body remarks on their official site “winning an Ivor Novello is the highest global recognition for songwriting and composing.” This year, the ceremony is in partnership with Amazon Music and is set to take place on 21 May at London’s Grosvenor House.

61 nominees were named Tuesday (24 March) across seven different categories. And of those, 34 nominees are first time recipients. This includes Dean, Alon and Self Esteem co-writer Johan Hugo.

Veteran nominees include two-time winner Little Simz, who has gotten her fifth ever Ivor nod for her single ‘Free’ in Best Contemporary Song. Damon Albarn also received his fifth nomination for the Gorillaz’s ‘Damascus’ which features Omar Souleyman and Yasiin Bay.

Lola Young has picked up her fourth ever nomination at the Ivors for her song, ‘Messy’ which is up for PRS for Music Most Performed Work. Welch joins Young in receiving her fourth Ivor Novello nomination, this year’s comes for her song, ‘Everybody Scream,’ for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. The song is co-written by Mistki and Mark Bowen.

Lily Allen’s ‘West End Girl’ is nominated for Best Album which marks the singer’s third Ivor nomination. And Coldplay also gets their third nod for their single ‘Viva La Vida’ for the PRS for Most Performed Work.  This category is said to celebrate “songs that received the most broadcast, online and general performances in the last year, based on PRS data.”

CMAT’s ‘Euro-Country’ has been nominated for Best Album, which is the Irish singer’s second nomination. The Ivors describe the Best Album category as celebrating “exceptional songwriting craft, creativity and cohesion across the record as a whole.” Other contenders for the award include Dean’s ‘The Art of Loving,’ Jim Legacy’s ‘Black British Music’ and Wolf Alice’s ‘The Clearing.’ Dean commented on the Instagram post below announcing her Best Album nomination with four heart emojis, and reposted the announcement to her Instagram Stories. Dean’s second nomination this year comes for her song, ‘Man I Need’ in the Most Performed Work category.

Meanwhile, Tempest is set to compete against himself in for Best Contemporary Song with both ‘I Stand on the Line’ (co-written by Fraser T Smith) and ‘Know Yourself’ (co-written by Smith and Tom Rowlands) nominated for the award.   The Rising Star Award with Amazon Music is another exciting category at the Ivors. 2026 nominees include kwn, Jacob Alon, Chloe Qisha and Skye Newman. The award recognizes songwriters from the UK and Irelands who the Ivor Academy believes are “at the tipping point of greatness.” Last year’s nominees include, PinkPantheress, Holly Humberstone, Rachel Chinouriri and Lola Young, who won the award in 2025.   The Ivor Novello Awards are peer-judged by fellow songwriters and composers. They remain the most prestigious and enduring award to celebrate craft and cultural achievement. And at a time tense with generative AI edging into the creative industries, the Ivors Academy says “when questions around authorship and AI are reshaping the music landscape, The Ivors stand as a powerful affirmation of human creativity and the cultural value of songwriters.”   While fans wait for the awards ceremony on 21 May, Amazon Music has curated an “Ivors 2026″ playlist, including many nominees and spanning a wide variety of genres, here. ‘West End Girl’ was a brutally honest retelling from Allen to events which led to dissolution of her marriage with US actor David Harbour. Received to mass critical acclaim, ‘West End Girl’ made the year end list for best album for Billboard, The Guardian, NME, The Rolling Store and Vogue amongst many other publications. Named as writer on all of the album’s fourteen tracks, Allen was praised for her “knack for making devastation sound exciting” and ‘West End Girl’ reached number two on the UK albums chart. 

The artwork is owned by Allen was shown to the public at on March 19th and will remain there for one year. This is the third portrait of Lily Allen to be showcased in the historic London gallery, after pieces by Venetia Dearden in 2007 and Nadav Kander in 2008. The most recent instalment will be available to the public in Room 30 of the National Portrait Gallery amongst a collection which includes a multitude of likenesses of famous figures from William Shakespeare and Adele. National Portrait Gallery director Victoria Siddall said its collection “celebrates the people who have shaped our history and culture”, going on to name Allen as one of the defining voices of her generation.

During her career, Lily Allen has been nominated for a Grammy award, three Ivor Novello awards and twelve NME Awards. ‘West End Girl’ her first release in seven years also was nominated for the Brit Award for Album of the Year at the most recent ceremony in February. Allen is currently on tour to promote her latest album. Beginning in March,  Allen has begun ‘Lily Allen: Performs West End Girl’ in the UK before she is scheduled to visit North American in April. Allen has a three night sinning at the London Palladium beginning tonight to finish out her UK leg. The popularity of ‘West End Girl’ has been so much that Allen upgraded theatre shows to areas across the United Kingdom and Ireland, as well as adding dates at the O2. Boardmasters is exceptionally popular and functions as Cornwalls, most beloved, premier music event. The event attracts over 50,000 attendees during its five-day run. Camping tickets often sell out rapidly due to the festivals haphazard range of musical acts and beachside excitement. Allen’s success has skyrocketed as of 2025 in the midst of her releasing a new record, ‘West End girl’. The album details her difficult divorce from her ex-husband and the catastrophic chain of events leading up to this. ‘West End Girl’ is Allen’s fifth studio album, released on October 24, 2025, the record has been incredibly well received due to its emotionally charged lyricism and narrative technique. The stellar two-song set perfectly embodies Allen’s growth as an artist, from a young shy girl she’s now blossomed into a confident woman, so sure of herself and everything she is saying within her devastating lyrics.

Accompanying her on the late-night set was none other than Dakota Johnson. Allen performed two tracks from her fifth studio album, ‘Madeline’ and ‘Sleepwalking’ , having Johnson embody the other women in ‘Madeline’. Johnson can be heard speaking to Allen from behind a curtain before walking out on stage and planting a kiss on Allen’s cheek. There is a great deal of speculation surrounding the fact that this album is supposedly about Allen’s former husband, Stranger Things star, David Harbour and his rumoured cheating antics. Johnson’s involvement in the performance emphasises an emotionally charged feeling of betrayal that lingers on the lit stage.

Johnson’s character states from behind a translucent curtain, “I hate that you’re in so much pain right now. I really don’t wanna be the cause of any upset. He told me that you were aware this was going on and that he had your full consent.” Throughout her performance Allen gazed harshly into the camera lens, it is evident she’s singing fully from her heart. Many fans also pointed out that the homely set featured on Saturday Night Live holds a strong resemblance to the home that harbour and Allen shared in Brooklyn. The pair lovingly shared their interior choices in a 2023 Architecture Digest video.

‘West End Girl’ is Allen’s first album release in 7 years, notably inspired by her recent divorce. The album was a surprise release on October 24, 2025, and is Allen’s first project following her departure from historic British record label, Parlophone. The material presented in the 14-track record is deeply personal and intimate in nature, allowing us to peer into Allen’s psyche.

The short performance has caused some bustling among fans as not long ago on October 30, Allen announced her first UK tour in seven years to celebrate the release of ‘West End Girl’. The tour is set to kickstart with intimate UK theatre shows in March 2026 before a larger scale run of Arena shows in the UK and Ireland set to begin June 2026. Allen then plans to go across the other side of the pond taking ‘West End Girl’ all the way to North America.

The response to the tour and new album has been nothing short of extraordinary, new, and old Allen fans have emerged from the shadows, sharing their love and condolences for her brilliant craft. Tickets flew out swiftly as fans now patiently wait to witness ‘West End Girl’ in all its full, heartbroken glory. Allen will forever be a household name, and it seems she just keeps pulling more tricks out of her sleeve.

The album was written and recorded in a tight ten-day sprint in Los Angeles last December, with finishing touches added in London and New York earlier this year. Helping bring it to life were Blue May (longtime collaborator and musical director), along with executive producers Seb Chew and Kito. A small, tight unit, which probably helped keep things honest.

Allen hasn’t given much away in terms of sound or singles just yet, but she’s made one thing clear: this isn’t a polished pop comeback. “I’m nervous,” she said, “The record is vulnerable in a way that my music perhaps hasn’t been before, certainly not over the course of a whole album.” That’s a strong statement from someone who’s never exactly been guarded on record.

“Why we humans behave as we do.” It’s described as a mix of fact and fiction, which suggests she’s not playing this one straight down the middle. Instead, expect blurred lines, character sketches, maybe even some emotional misdirection.

“At the same time, I’ve used shared experiences as the basis for songs which try to delve into why we humans behave as we do, so the record is a mixture of fact and fiction which I hope serves as a reminder of how stoic yet also how frail we humans can be. In that respect I think it’s very much an album about the complexities of relationships and how we all navigate them. It’s a story.”

In many ways, this feels like a natural extension of ‘No Shame’. That record ditched the big hooks and leaned into something more intimate… divorce, addiction, parenthood. All handled with a kind of resigned honesty. But even then, Allen never fully dropped the armour. This time, it sounds like she might be leaving it at the door.

It’s also worth pointing out the speed at which West End Girl came together. Ten days to write and record a full album is intense, even for someone as sharp as Allen. That time pressure could mean a looser, more instinctive sound.

We could see this record with less focus on the radio edit, more about capturing a mood.

There’s no official tracklist yet, and no promo single in sight, which makes the whole thing feel pleasingly uncalculated, and very characteristic of Lily Allen.

No campaign, no rollout, just the music.

The Blue Origin space flight launched on Monday April 14, about 120 miles southeast of El Paso. The flight lasted 10 minutes and 21 seconds, going as far as the Kármán line, the internationally recognised boundary of space.

The flight carried a crew of six women including musician Katy Perry, philanthropist Lauren Sánchez, broadcast journalist Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen and film producer Kerianne Flynn.

It was the first all-female space team in 60 years, hoping to encourage an interest in science for young women around the world – while also promoting Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin space technology company, who plan to commercialize space travel for the rich.

Since its launch, the flight has sparked debate, with detractors questioning what exactly was to gain from the voyage.

Lily Allen let listeners hear her opinion during her ‘Miss Me?’ podcast with co-host Miquita Oliver.

In a video clip of the podcast, Lily says: “I just think it’s so out of touch we’re on the brink of a recession, people are really struggling to make ends meet, it just seems like things are hard at the moment.”

Miquita responds, saying that it’s “Not really the most appropriate time to send Katy Perry into space?”

Lily agreed, saying: “For absolutely no reason! It’s like we send people to space to discover things, for scientific reasons.”

Miquita then claims it was bad timing, as Lily questions the intention behind the all-female flight, saying: “And the fact that they’ve made it like some sort of feminist thing!”

Other celebrities have voiced their disapproval of the space flight. Emily Ratajkowski called out the mission in a Tik Tok video, calling it “end time s**t” and “beyond parody”.

She spoke out against the motive for the mission and the company behind it: “That you care about Mother Earth and it’s about Mother Earth, and you’re going up in a spaceship that is built and paid for by a company that’s single-handedly destroying the planet?”

British TV personality Vicky Pattinson also expressed her frustration on social media, claiming that “This isn’t feminism”

“They want to distract you with this so you don’t focus on the fact that slowly, almost imperceptibly, women’s rights are being taken away.

“I don’t think we need to see a bunch of uber rich women fired into space in a schlong shaped space ship for 5 minutes… we need equal pay, access to reproductive healthcare, the right to vote, to feel safe, autonomy over our own bodies, the right to safe, accessible abortion.”

While there has been a sharp backlash to the voyage, its crew members stand proud behind their Blue Origin flight. In a conference following the ship’s landing, Gayle King said: “I feel that anybody that’s criticizing doesn’t really understand what is happening here. I’ve heard it, we’ve all heard it.”

“I hope that they will do a deep dive into what this represents. We can all speak to the response we’re getting from young women, young girls about what this represents,” she continued. “This is really a lot of work, what went into getting us up and getting us down.”

Lauren Sanchez also said “I get really fired up a little bit on this. I would love to have them come to Blue Origin and see the thousands of employees that don’t just work here but they put their heart and soul into this vehicle. Rocket scientists, engineers, all kinds of people, they love their work, and they love the mission and it’s a big deal for them.”

However, the Daily Mail have reported from insider knowledge that Katy Perry regrets “making a public spectacle” out of her space flight, adding that she “never expected this backlash” and is “disheartened” by the “uncalled for and upsetting” reaction.

In a recent episode of her podcast ‘Miss Me?’, co-hosted with Miquita Oliver, the singer outlined her plans: “Firstly, I’m going to go and get my head straight for a bit… then I’m going to do some more writing, then I’m going to do my play, hopefully, maybe get an album out by the end of the year. In addition to her musical endeavours, the ‘Smile’ singer is set to star in a new theatrical production of ‘Hedda Gabler’, scheduled to premiere in England in July 2025 at Theatre Royal Bath.

This news comes after Lily Allen and David Harbour reportedly separated after four years of marriage.  The couple, who married in a Las Vegas ceremony in 2020, had been living apart for several months prior to their split. Speculation about their relationship intensified when Lily unfollowed David on Instagram and was later spotted on the exclusive dating app Raya. Reports suggest that Lily rejoined Raya to investigate suspicions of David’s infidelity, discovering an active profile believed to be his.

Allen’s last album ‘No Shame’ was written during a turbulent period in her life, including her divorce from Sam Cooper. The upcoming album is still largely under wraps, but true to her style, Allen is expected to address personal experiences and struggles. Given the reports about her recent split from David Harbour, these emotions could find their way into her lyrics.

This announcement follows Burna Boy’s historic performances, including being the first African artist to headline a UK stadium at London Stadium in June 2023. “I’ve been going through a tough time over the last few months and my eating has become a real issue.” Allen shared. “My therapist and I talk about it and she says, ‘How long has this been going on?, And I said, ‘Well about three years really.’” 

The British singer-songwriter explained that she’s only recently started addressing these concerns. “It just hasn’t seemed at the top of the list of important things that I need to talk about, but obviously it is.” She speculated that her ADHD may play a role in why she hadn’t opened up about food-related issues before, adding, “I spend a lot of time in my head, and not a lot of time thinking about my body.”

This is not the first time Lily Allen has spoken so candidly about mental health. In 2017, she discussed her bipolar disorder diagnosis, and has spoken about her struggles with body image. In an interview for ITV, she recalled that she “used to sleep for days so that [she] didn’t eat”.

Known for chart-topping, debut single ‘Smile’, Allen spoke on the topic of addiction with regards to fame in January 2021, sharing her own experiences with alcohol and the prescription drug Adderall. The former was a coping mechanism for anxiety, while the latter was used to lose weight during her time supporting Miley Cyrus on her ‘Bangerz’ Tour.

Allen’s openness mirrors a growing trend among musicians who are speaking out about the mental health challenges they face in an industry known for its relentless demands. Katie Melua, a British singer-songwriter known for 2003 hit ‘The Closest Thing to Crazy’, recently shared her own journey, including an acute psychotic breakdown earlier in her career.

Speaking on the Origins With Cush Jumbo podcast, the singer-songwriter explained that the pressures of the music industry and touring led to her hospitalisation. “I had to go on medication. I had a really good doctor looking after me, and then my family were incredible.” Melua shared.

She emphasised the self-care habits that she has utilised to ensure her well-being, “I think it’s all about the people you surround yourself with, and also knowing yourself and knowing what kind of small warning signs might be. So I really treasure my sleep – so important.” Alongside this, she stressed the importance of “hydration”, “talking”, and “hugging”, sharing one of the most effective therapy tools for her was the mantra “take one day at a time”. 

Mental health discussions are becoming more prominent in the music industry inspiring artists to prioritise their well-being by cancelling shows when necessary. Lewis Capaldi, Shawn Mendes, and The Last Dinner Party are notable examples.

These examples of individual actions are part of a broader shift toward demanding systemic change. This movement reflects the growing demand for support structures in an industry that has long neglected these issues.

She added she could possibly relate more to her second album ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’, whose 20th anniversary will be in 2029.

In June 2022, during the Glastonbury Festival, Olivia Rodrigo invited Lily Allen on stage to perform Allen’s 2009 hit ‘Fuck You‘. This performance was a direct response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, effectively ending federal protection for abortion rights.
