Paul Weller has released his new single ‘Clive’s Song’, featuring Led Zepplin’s Robert Plant. The track marks the fourth song to be released from his forthcoming cover album ‘Find El Dorado’ which will see the former Jam-frontman reinterpreting songs that are deeply personal to him.

The single reflects by Weller’s enduring fascination with the wave of folk and blues artists who emerged in Britain and Ireland in the late 1960s- early 1970s. ‘Clive’s Song’ was originally written by Clive Palmer – one of the founding members of Incredible String Band – who wrote the song for Scottish folk legend Hamish Imlach. The song was recorded as part of his 1971 album ‘Old Rarity’. Incredible String Band was also cited by Plant as one of the major influences on the sound and lyricism of Led Zeppelin.

The new track ‘Clive’s Song’ sees Weller and Plant collaborating on a stripped-back cover with shared harmonies and vocals. Plant also unveils a beautiful harmonica solo – the perfect tribute to the original song. A press release about the collaboration on the track read: “Though the song remains relatively undiscovered, avowed folk and blues aficionado Robert Plant didn’t need persuading when Paul invited him to Black Barn for the resulting session”. The track marks Plant’s first appearance since his 2021 collaboration album ‘Raise the Roof’ with Alison Krauss.

The track follows the release of previous renditions of Bee Gees’ ‘I Started A Joke’, The Guerrillas’ ‘Lawdy/ Rolla’ and Brian Protheroe’s ‘Pinball’. The cover album has been described as a “deeply personal new album of reinterpretations that sees Weller revisit songs that have long lived in the back of his mind – now reimagined with fresh meaning and a sense of reverence”. In a previous statement about the project, Weller said: “These are songs I’ve carried with me for years. They’ve taken on new shapes over time. And now felt like the moment to share them.” The record will also see reimaginings of songs by the likes of the Kinks and Bobby Charles.

‘Find El Dorado’ will be released on July 25 via Parlophone 2025 and is available to pre-sae here.

In case it was missed, MXDWN’s earlier coverage of the release of his first single ‘Lawdy Rolla’ from the upcoming album can be read here.

The Musicians Union has also voiced their own concerns and released a statement last month. “The MU’s position is to oppose the exception and rights reservation system, and request that copyright be strengthened with the introduction of a new AI training right in UK copyright law.”

The proposal comes as part of the Data (Use and Access) Bill, which is currently in the committee stage in the House of Commons. The changes, which have been described as the governments’ preferred approach, would allow AI companies to data mine copyrighted works without permission under an opt-out system, which as Page pointed out, is impossible in reality.

The Culture, Media and Sport Committee is headed by Dame Caroline Dinenage, who has described the government’s opt-in, opt-out stance as “the legislative equivalent of the hokey-kokey.” The Labour government’s own MP, James Frith, spoke out about the importance of copyright, enabling those who create art to also be able to make a living from it.

Peter Kyle, Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology, one of the sponsors of the Bill, has defended the proposals. He told LBC that the aim is to create a market in the UK where AI companies respect domestic laws, arguing that loopholes are already being exploited in other countries.

‘Becoming Led Zeppelin’ made its highly anticipated debut at the 2021 Venice Film Festival, where it was met with a standing ovation. As the first officially sanctioned documentary about the band, ‘Becoming Led Zeppelin’ blends newly filmed interviews with surviving members Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones with carefully restored archival footage from key moments in the band’s history. Director MacMahon draws a clear connection between the band’s rise to fame and the turbulent times they helped define, it is all underpinned by the dulcet tones of the hit ‘Whole Lotta Love’, the 1969 single from their album Zeppelin II.

Now, under the distribution of Sony Pictures Classics, the film is poised for a theatrical release that will showcase its rich sound and visuals as intended by director Bernard MacMahon. Its set for release in North and Latin America, South East Asia, and the Middle East but no date has been announced for the UK and Europe as of yet.

Notable performances from 1969 at Fillmore West and the Texas Pop Festival are featured, offering a glimpse into the band’s formative years. The film’s hybrid approach, part documentary and part concert film, captures both the band’s rapid rise and the more intimate aspects of their journey.

One of the most powerful elements of the documentary is its focus on drummer John Bonham whose sudden death in 1980, at just 32 years old, due to asphyxiation from alcohol, led to the eventual disbanding of the group. MacMahon’s film attempts to honours Bonham’s legacy, framing his life and untimely passing as an indelible part of the band’s story.

In anticipation of the film’s release, a new trailer has been unveiled.

It opens with intimate, vintage footage of the band’s early years: Bonham behind his drums, Page using his violin bow in a 1969 Fillmore East performance—restored to reflect the era’s cultural significance. The trailer weaves these concert clips with historical milestones such as the Apollo 11 launch, the Vietnam War, and the Woodstock festival, underscoring Led Zeppelin’s rise amid global upheaval.

Duran Duran’s Andy Taylor, along with other prominent musicians, will unite in a collaborative effort to raise funds for a cancer charity through a special concert scheduled for this month. The esteemed 62-year-old guitarist and vocalist was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in 2018 and has since been actively involved in promoting awareness surrounding this condition.

Taylor will be joined by Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin, Andrew Ridgeley from Wham!, David Palmer from ABC, as well as singer-songwriter Ella Henderson and guitarist Phil X. Together, they will perform a selection of their most renowned songs to an audience consisting of philanthropists, musicians, and two fortunate fans.

The event, set to take place on October 21 at Soho Farmhouse in the Cotswolds, will also encompass a live auction showcasing artworks by Banksy and Picasso and exclusive Fender guitars signed by artists including Lady Gaga, Nile Rodgers and Green Day including a special Fender Guitar to be played and signed by Andy Taylor on the night! Additionally, Katherine Ryan will deliver a comedic performance, while Ridgeley will assume the role of DJ.

In an interview discussing his treatment, Andy said, “There also needs to be a revolution in men’s healthcare about prostate cancer, a breaking down of the stigmas associated with getting tested. The Cancer Awareness Trusts’ vision for a Cancer Platform is what we need and why I’m an ambassador.” He went on to add, “So many amazing people have come together to put this show together with Andy and I can’t wait to celebrate with them all on the night, but more importantly, I’m looking forward to putting the funds raised to the crucial and urgent work of transforming cancer outcomes.”

Duran Duran, founded in Birmingham in 1978, quickly rose to prominence in the 1980s as a leading musical group, receiving widespread recognition and praise for their exceptional contributions to the industry, boasting chart-topping hits such as “Rio,” “The Wild Boys,” and the James Bond theme “A View To A Kill”.

Footage has emerged from one of Led Zeppelin’s most famous concerts. Their performance at the LA Forum took place during their summer 1970 North American Tour. It led to the release of the Live on Blueberry Hill LP which is widely credited as one of the first rock bootlegs. The bootleg was released on the Blimp label and the album sold so many copies that many fans thought it was a legal release. These recordings have now been paired with fan-shot footage which has sat in a draw for almost 50 years.

Eddie Vincent attended the 1970 concert and snuck a Kodak Brownie 8mm camera into the arena. “I had really great seats,” he told Classic Rock. “They were right behind the band. I had seats in the front row, right behind John Bonham’s kit. The only problem was that you couldn’t really see John because the gong was there, but he came around and chatted to us while they were doing the acoustic set.” He hid the camera under his jacket, and in the introduction to the now uploaded footage he says: “There weren’t any problems at the door back in those days.”

The camera was a wind-up that could only capture up to 30 seconds at a time but it has given fans previously unseen footage of the band performing ‘Since I’ve Been Loving You’, ‘Thank You’, ‘What Is And What Should Never Be’, ‘Whole Lotta Love’, ‘Some Other Guy’ and ‘Lemon Song’.

Vincent’s footage remained hidden away for 50 years before he contacted collector John Waters. Waters said: “The music needs to be out there. I know a lot of collectors and traders that don’t give their stuff away, and that’s a shame to me. Music’s to be shared, and today you need it to get away from the crazy world. And if this film brings a lot of people happiness, hey, we did a good job.” He oversaw the restoration process and another fan was able to match the footage to the audio from the Live on Blueberry Hill LP.

In the description of the recently uploaded Youtube video, Waters writes, “Old concert film is important and must be preserved! If you shot film in the past, traded and collected reels, or just bought them from the classifieds of rock magazines in the ’70s and ’80s, it’s important we save these.” He provides an email address for others who may be interested in restoring or sharing old footage.

In a recent interview with MOJO, he commented about the release and working with Krauss again: “The good thing about Alison and I is that we’re a couple of kindred spirits”.

He also commented about heritage bands: “Most musicians form a band, then they stay in the band until it’s over – 20 years, 30 years, 50 years, whatever it is – and it starts to look sadly decrepit. It’s like people hanging onto a life raft, or staying in a comfortable place.” He didn’t want to stay in the group for decades and decided to move forward making his music.

“For the two of us, nothing was written in blood. We were ready to do something new and previously knew how good it was, so join us again. You can see where you are going. You have nothing to lose” Plant commented on working with Krauss. Raise The Roof is the pair second release and is due on November 19th. You can pre-order the album here.

Led Zeppelin split up in 1980 after drummer John ‘Bonzo’ Bonham died. Since then, the band reunited on several occasions, but only for one-off gigs. The latest one had happened in 2007 in London as a tribute to Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun.

Asked about another reunion, Plant commented: “We’re 41 years into it now. It’s a very charming question, and it comes in all languages! but the conversation doesn’t really go now, because that spaceship has [departed].“

Commenting about the album Raising Sand he added: “It’s a miracle, this album. It’s as old as it is new – a couple of people at a certain time in their lives, doing something that neither of them expected. It’s clean”.

“There’s no going back, no going forward, it’s just, ‘This is it, today!’ that’s such a relief for me, and for Alison, too” Robert Pant added at the end.

Led Zeppelin is set to release a long-awaited Documentary entitled “Becoming Led Zeppelin“. The Director of Led Zeppelin’s Documentary, Bernard MacMahon is on record and stated that he never thought that a documentary featuring the life of Led Zeppelin would ever come to light.

Bernard MacMahon’s stated this due to Led Zeppelin’s rapid rise to fame and their largely undocumented career. Bernard MacMahon was therefore reliant on both archived visual and audio material being identified and restored before the Documentary could be made.

If you think of an early Hard Rock and Heavy Metal Band, Led Zeppelin is your Go-to Band. Led Zeppelin was formed in 1968 and it has been said that their musical influences derive from Blues and Folk Music’ in particular.

The Led Zeppelin lineup consisted of Roger Plant (Lead Vocalist), Jimmy Page (Guitarist), John Paul Jones (Bassist/Keyboardist) and the late John Bonham (Drummer) who is to also feature in the Documentary.

The sad passing of John Bonham led to the disbanding of Led Zeppelin, although they reunited briefly in the 1980s. Led Zeppelin has released 8 Studio Albums, 4 live Albums and 9 Compilation Albums throughout their career. Led Zeppelin provided their consent for the release of their Documentary after 53 years.

The Documentary “Becoming Led Zeppelin” was first announced on May 19 for Led Zeppelin’s 50th Anniversary in 2018. The Documentary will feature new interviews by remaining band members Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones. Archived interviews featuring the late John Bonham are also included in the Documentary.

It has been reported that the remaining band members of Led Zeppelin felt confident with tasking the making of their Documentary to Bernard MacMahon following the success of his Documentary Series “American Epic“.

Led Zeppelin has announced their comeback and is set to release a new Studio Album on September 21. They have also announced a World Tour with Ringo Starr as their Drummer. There are no dates confirmed at this time.

Although the Documentary “Becoming Led Zeppelin” is complete, there is no release date for the long-awaited Documentary.

Hosted on a ‘Digging Deep’ podcast episode, aired on May 24th, legendary Led Zeppelin frontman has stated that he assembled his personal archive during lockdown, but he has no plans to release them if not after his death. The items include cassettes containing a wide range of recordings of abandoned projects, personal papers – including a family note sent to him soon after he decided to undertake singing as a professional career: ‘I found a letter from my mom that said, ‘Look, you’ve been a very naughty boy. Why don’t you come back?’

‘And also, the accountancy job is still open on Stourport-on-Severn … [so] why don’t you just come back home and we’ll pretend all this stuff didn’t happen?’ he added. Plant did not find the letter until a few months ago: ‘it made me feel crazy because I thought about what a pitch it was in those days to chuck everything up in the air and just say, ‘Sorry, I’ve got to this,’ and for them to throw the next card down and say, ‘Well, if you do it, you can’t come back here and live the live you wanna live. It’s academia or you’re out.’ So I went. … I only went back, really, when I got engaged. … I went back and introduced my future ex-wife.’

Zeppelin singer confessed that he spent lockdown ‘in Worcestershire, Shropshire, the Welsh borders; just walking, painting, drawing’. By being forced to stay at home, he had plenty of time to put his house in order: ‘All the adventures that I’ve ever had with music and tours, album releases, projects that didn’t actually get finished or whatever it is — I just put them, itemised them all, and put everything into some semblance of order. So I’ve completely changed the set-up.’

However, these items will only see the light of day after Plant’s passing: ‘I’ve told the kids when I kick the bucket, open it to the public free of charge — just to see how many silly things there were down the line from 1966 to now. It’s a journey.’ For the time being, Robert Plant will headline this year’s Black Deer Festival in Kent.

He told GQ “Right, now’s the time to start thinking about coming back at some point”.

The last the rock veteran was seen on stage was back in 2007 for a Led Zeppelin reunion concert in London. It is weird to think that was sparked this urge to break the 13-year absences was a worldwide pandemic. However, despite the great burden the pandemic has placed on us and got us working from home many in the creative industry, like Page, have been working hard on their passion and furthering their portfolio of talent and work.

The music industry has taken a massive hit during the pandemic with self-employed musicians hitting hard times due to lack of income. But as we’re nearing an end to the tunnel with news of an effective vaccination nearing the point of distribution the industry has started to see hope again with studios opening, tours being announced for next year and Jimmy Page has jumped on top of that news with a grand return to music and shows “We need to play with people, we need gigs and we need community, because without that, music means nothing.”.

Speaking about the state of the world right now Page had this to say: “It’s such a very sad and desperate time,” he tells GQ, “and what this virus has done internationally to families, to the arts, and everything we love and hold dear and the whole concert situation, it does worry me.”. with music being such an important aspect of all of our lives as well as Page’s he understands how dire it is for life to move forwards and get back to a sense of normality (when it is safe and with the aid of science and the vaccine)

Jimmy Page who is a rock legend is known as the guitarist of one of the greatest rock bands from the UK Led Zeppelin. With a portfolio of songs and anthems like ‘Stairway To Heaven’, ‘Black Dog’, and ‘Whole Lotta Love’ Page’s prowess and talent is very clear and it would be very exciting to see such a powerhouse and talented musician make a triumphant return to live shows. For Page playing live also has a massive generational benefit.

“Playing live is so important for young musicians, when we were young, we all had these little gigs, hoping to play somewhere bigger and it’s such an important part of that communion of musicians playing together.”. It’s safe to say that this is something very and important and near and dear to Page’s heart

The Rolling Stones have dropped the music video for their song Scarlet, starring Normal People star Paul Mescal. The Emmy nominated actor danced around the five-star London Claridge’s hotel, pining after a lost love, in a socially distanced photoshoot.

Talking about the video, an inside source told the Sun; “It’s a massive collaboration and a great coup to get Paul on board. He’s one of the biggest stars in the world right now, but obviously he was keen to work with some music legends too. Universal managed to pull off the partnership at just the right time, and everyone involved is seriously excited. Paul plays a hunky party boy in the film, and no doubt there will be a whole new set of fans of his who will want to check it out too, as well as the band’s fanbase.”

Scarlet is one of three previously unreleased songs that will appear on the upcoming deluxe edition of Goats Head Soup, set to come out September 4th. The song was recorded in 1974 with Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page playing guitar.

Remembering the day, Keith Richards said in a statement; “My recollection is we walked in at the end of a Zeppelin session, they were just leaving, and we were booked in next and I believe that Jimmy decided to stay. We weren’t actually cutting it as a track; it was basically for a demo, a demonstration, you know, just to get the feel of it, but it came out well, with a line-up like that, you know, we better use it.”
