The teaser offered above is in the form of an instrumental with some toned-down bass riff and a fragment of vocals but with no discernible lyrics, leaving us all in wonder. Frontman Caleb Followill announced the new track towards the end of the set, and this will mark their first new music since their 2021 LP When You See Yourself.  The band who are currently on tour in Mexico, Columbia, and Brazil this March and tickets are available at Songkick.

Kings Of Leon is a band that was formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1999. The band comprises brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill and their cousin Matthew Followill. Their early music was a blend of Southern/Garage rock with blues influences but has since evolved to include a variety of genres, creating a more alternative rock-based sound. They achieved success with nine Top Forty Singles and won two Brit Awards in 2008, and all three of the band’s albums, at the time, reached the top five of the UK Album Charts. And their third album, Because of the Times, reached number one. The release of Only by the Night in September of 2008 garnered them chart success in the United States, and the singles Sex on Fire, Use Somebody, and Notion all peaked at number one on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart.

The new track Mustang will be released this Thursday. So if you are looking to use somebody to cheer you up, then tune in on Thursday to check out the new music. At this point, one can only speculate, but there is always they hope that a new album will follow along with, hopefully, a UK or European tour.

On the 17^th May, the venue posted on its website and social media accounts the plea for fans to object to the landlord’s licence application writing, “As many of you are aware, our landlords have issued The Leadmill with an eviction notice in order to operate from this location themselves. If they are successful, this would result in The Leadmill ceasing to exist after 43 years.”

Members of the public can object to the application if they are aware of any relevant reasons as to why it shouldn’t be granted which includes the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, the prevention of public nuisance, and the protection of children from harm. The Leadmill continued, “You may be assisted in your understanding by Googling relevant reviews and press reports about the operation of the landlord’s current nightclubs. These are; Electric Brixton, SWX Bristol, and NX Newcastle.”

In 2017, Electric Group bought the site’s freehold and announced their plans to evict the current management in order to run the venue themselves under the name Electric Sheffield last year.

Artists and gig-goers alike have been quick to support the preservation of the current managers of The Leadmill on social media. Last year when the landlords announced their plans to evict the organisers, Yorkshire band Kaiser Chiefs took to Twitter writing, “We played The Leadmill in our early days and not only do we have very fond memories, it really helped us, too. It would be a huge loss not just for Sheffield and Yorkshire, but the whole UK music scene.”

Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess also joined the #WeCantLoseTheLeadmill campaign on social media writing, “Such a brilliant venue. Let’s do all we can to stop The @Leadmill from closing.”

Northern Irish rock band Ash joined the campaign too, adding, “This venue has been part of our lives for almost 30 years. Always been a great place to play. Show them your support; let’s get @Leadmill trending.”

Sheffield’s own Arctic Monkeys have previously shown their support for the venue by launching a Crowdfunder campaign to help with funding in 2020. Alex Turner chipped in by giving away his Fender Stratocaster used in the band’s early days.

Last year, Music Venue Trust launched a new initiative to protect, secure, and improve UK music venues.

The former flour mill has a long history of hosting gigs having once been the Esquire in the 1960s where the Small Faces and Jimi Hendrix played. The live music venue and nightclub first opened its doors as The Leadmill in 1980 and has since hosted artists including Pulp, Coldplay, The Stone Roses, Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon, The Killers, and Oasis. To celebrate its 40th anniversary back in 2021, the venue released a limited edition red vinyl compilation album featuring tracks from the likes of The Orielles, Enter Shikari, and Bedroom High Club.

The dates follow last year’s Kings Of Leon’s UK arena tour, which included two shows at London’s O2 and is marked as the band’s first UK performances since headlining Reading and Leeds in 2018. A four-star review of When You See Yourself from NME wrote, “When You See Yourself see the Kings marry their interests old and new, finally embracing the mature, laid-back versions of themselves. It makes sense when you consider the band’s chronology: it was their fourth album, the moody Only By The Night that things skyrocketed for Kings Of Leon, with ubiquitous hits “Sex On Fire” and “Use Somebody” finally connecting with fans in the US. Ever since their debut in 2003, Kings Of Leon, Caleb (guitar/vocals), Nathan (drums), Jared (bass) and Matthew Followill (guitar) continue to thrive as a band with eight released studio albums: Youth And Young Manhood (2003), Aha Shake Heartbreak (2004), Because Of The Times (2007), Only By The Night (2008), Come Around Sundown (2010), Mechanical Bull (2013), WALLS (2016) and When You See Yourself (2021). Quite noticeable for their blues riffs and enigmatic slurred vocals of their debut, nobody’s minds would have crossed the Kings as future arena-packing hitmakers. The brother and cousin bond continues to shape them throughout their journey and later metamorphosed from the Bayou Strokes to iconic Platinum chart-toppers.

Following Simpson’s The Masked Singer win, he shared the announcement of his EP to his fans on Instagram, where he posted a video singing ”Use Somebody” and takes off the Rhino mask he wore on the show. During the video, an on-screen statement from the musician is shown, stating ”Well this has been a hard secret to keep… Reading all of your comments each week has been awesome. Ive been so blown away by all the support. So I’ve decided to release a few songs I sang on the show, as an EP named ‘KIFARU,’ the Swahili word for rhino.I hope you like it. Big love x”

During the final of The Masked Singer and prior to Charlie Simpson’s win, other disguised contestants were revealed. 49-year-old pop-star, Natalie Appleton, from girl group All Saints, was revealed as Fawn, whereas Phoenix was revealed as Kaiser Chief’s frontman, Ricky Wilson. After Simpson was unveiled as the man behind the rhino mask, The Masked Singer panellist Rita Ora asked Simpson, ”So can I ask you, were you taken back by the experience?” to which he responded ”I was terrified the entire time because the thing I was scared most about was remembering lyrics, because I often forget lyrics to my own songs on stage.”

During his Unmasked interview, he explains that the experience was a ”rollacoaster of emotions” and reflects on his time on the show.

 The Dad-of-two is renowned for his distinctive vocal tone and astounding music career, during bands and as a solo artist, releasing twelve studio albums overall. Charlie Simpson is most well-known for being a part of Pop-Punk band, Busted, from Southend-On-Sea, Essex. Alongside Simpson, the band consists of James Bourne and Matt Willis. During their career, the band has had four UK number one singles and released four studio albums, self-titled album Busted (2002), A Present for Everyone (2003), Night Driver (2016) and Half Way There (2019). Selling over five million records, the band also won two Brit awards. Charlie Simpson also fronted London Rock band, FightStar, with band members Alex Westaway, Omar Abidi and Dan Haigh. FightStar released four studio albums as a band before their hiatus in 2015, Grand Unification (2006), Be Human (2009), One Day Son, This Will All Be Yours (2007) and Behind the Devil’s Back (2015). Simpson also succeeded in a career as a solo artist releasing four studio albums, Young Pilgrim (2011), Long Road home (2014), Little Hands (2016) and Hope is A Drug (2022).

Kings Of Leon are a group whose name is instantly recognisable to many; if you are a die-hard fan of the band or not, it is more than likely that their guitar hooks and arena-rock choruses have reached your ears at some point in time, whether it was on a night out or simply browsing through music online. The band released their debut full-length record Youth And Young Manhood in 2003, which would set the precedent for their next two albums, Aha Shake Heartbreak (2004) and Because Of The Times (2007). These three albums featured a garage-tinged rock sound, with duelling guitars and a Strokes-esque drawl from singer Caleb Followill. In 2008, the band would release Only By The Night, which saw them altering their sound and echoing rock sensibilities of the time. This album featured the singles ‘Sex On Fire’ and ‘Use Somebody’ which are two of the groups’ most widely known tunes.

2021 has seen the band releasing their eighth studio album on January 7^th, entitled When You See Yourself, which is available on all streaming services.

Kings Of Leon are currently approaching the end of a US tour, which will be followed by a set of shows in Australia in New Zealand in March 2022, preceding their ventures in the UK and Europe. The four-piece group also unveiled the exciting supporting acts for their gig at Finsbury Park. Among the names include Cage the Elephant, The Big Moon, Soccer Mommy, and BBC Sound of 2020’s fourth runner-up Inhaler—an emerging Irish indie band led by Elijah Hewson who is the son of U2’s Bono. Kings of Leon also promised more artists to join the stage on the day.

In addition to the intriguing show at North London this June, the “Use Somebody” group will rock out their classic hits at Utilita Arena in Newcastle Upon Tyne on July 7. On July 8, the group will play at First Direct Arena in Leeds.

These three upcoming shows mark Kings of Leon’s comeback to the UK after doing a show at Liverpool’s Sefton Park for Fusion Presents last year. The band belted out a 20-song setlist filled with their timeless hits from their 2003’s debut Youth & Young Manhood to 2016’s WALLS. This means that the fans can expect to sing along with their thunderous anthems like “Sex on Fire“, “Radioactive“, “Wait for Me“, and “Waste a Moment“.

Regarding London’s Finsbury Park, The 1975 is also revealed as one of the leading names to headline at the festival. The British band will be joined by artists from various genres with the likes of Charli XCX, Clairo, Phoebe Bridgers, beabadoobee, Cavetown, Deb Never, Pale Waves, and more.

The festival headliners will be joined by Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand, Brits Critic Choice Award Winner Sam Fender, local boys Circa Waves and Echo and The Bunnymen on Friday the 30th Of August. The evening is part of a massive new project known as Fusion Presents’ which will be held for the first time this summer in Sefton Park. In a statement festival promoter Damien Sanders said “Liverpool is an iconic city, entrenched in music heritage and we’ve wanted to launch a new event for the last couple of years. The biggest challenge has been finding the right artist for the job. We’re over the moon that we were able to secure one of the world’s most successful rock bands to launch Fusion Presents and we cannot wait to see them perform in our new home, Sefton Park.”

The Followill Brothers, and Cousin, have an incredible back catalog of songs including The Bucket, Sex on Fire and Use Somebody. With their last album “The Walls” being released in 2016. The band have previously headlined Glastonbury and Isle of Wight Festival, so being confirmed as the lead artist for the newly running Fusion Presents’ will be seen as a big coup.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, with prices starting at £54.00 plus booking fee, with local residents getting a 50% discount on the event. The night is part of on exciting summer planned for Liverpool as the city will also play host to the 6 Music festival this summer.

Topping the bill are Fall Out Boy, Kendrick Lamar, Kings of Leon, Wolf Alice, Skepta, and Courteeners. There;s also a spate of new artists who broke through in the last year or so making an appearance, like Post Malone, J Hus, Brockhampton, and Dua Lipa.

“There are very few places that can illustrate the growth of our band from its beginning,” said Fall Out Boy, as they return to headline. “However, Reading and Leeds is one of them. It is an honour to be able to headline a festival that we grew up playing and dreaming of that top spot.”

Kendrick Lamar is also returning to the fabled venues for the first time since 2015, and is wrapping up the UK leg of his DAMN tour this week, having played two raucous dates at London’s O2 Arena, as well as dates in Birmingham, Manchester, and Glasgow.

“Reading and Leeds prides itself on being a music-first festival and this year’s line-up already proves that,” said Festival Republic boss Melvin Benn in a statement today. “Kings of Leon and Fall Out Boy are bands that have grown with the festival and its fans and we couldn’t be more pleased to invite them back to headline.

A statement on the venue’s website confirms the cancellation of the KoL show. The statement reads:

“Following last month’s tragic incident and the subsequent temporary closure of the main area outside the venue, Manchester Arena has no other option than to cancel this Friday’s Kings of Leon show. We apologise for not being able to stage this event and the inconvenience caused to our customers.

The promoters have advised that the Sheffield Arena show on Saturday 10 June will go ahead as planned. Those that still want to see Kings of Leon and can make the Sheffield Arena show will be given the opportunity to re-book tickets with no booking fees (subject to availability).

Ticketholders for Manchester’s show will be offered a full refund and fans should contact their point of purchase for further information.”

On Sunday 4th June, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Coldplay and other stars played at the One Love Manchester Benefit Concert, held at Old Trafford, raising money for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund, which has just passed the £10m mark.  50,000 people attended the concert, whilst it was simultaneously live streamed on Youtube, BBC iplayer, Facebook, and other social media sites for audiences at home to watch.

The announcement for these extra dates in Jun comes alongside the revelation that KoL will be headlining the British Summertime Festival in Hyde Park, London, on on July 6, with support from the likes of Pixies, and Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats. The band have also confirmed themselves to be playing Denmark’s Tinderbox Festival, which incidentally takes place on the same weekend as the UK’s Glasonbury festival, which may well lay to rest any rumours of Kings of Leon playing there.

Kings of Leon release their seventh album WALLS in October, which was heralded by many as a return to form for the group.  When asked about the band potenitaly losing their edge, frontman and guitarist Caleb Followill, said of the new project “If there was a movie made of our lives, in the last few years we had a lot of edge. Those are the moments in the movie that you’d wanna watch! […] What we were doing early on was storybook, classic, what a band should be; the drugs and the booze and the girls. Now we consider what we’re doing a little more and if that’s losing your edge… maybe, I dunno. When you look at the bands that still had their edge, most of them, their music is shit so it doesn’t fucking matter about the edge.” The extra UK tour dates can be seen below.
