Featuring the songs of David Bowie, the stage musical Lazarus will open in London this autumn. Lazarus premiered in New York last November before David Bowie’s death in January.

Lazarus will run at the Kings Cross Theatre from 25 October to 22 January 2017. The musical was co-written by David Bowie with Irish playwright Enda Walsh.

The cast include Michael C Hall, Michael Esper, and Sophia Anne Caruso who starred in the original New York production.

Lazarus was directed by Ivo Van Hove, designed by Jan Versweyveld, inspired by the 1963 novel The Man Who Fell to Earth by Walter Tevis.

Director Ivo Van Hove said of the musical before its Off-Broadway premiere:

“Lazarus focuses on Newton as he remains on Earth, a man unable to die, his head soaked in cheap gin and haunted by a past love. We follow Newton through the course of a few days where the arrival of another lost soul might set him free.”

Van Hove continued:

“You don’t know what you’re watching for about 40 minutes or so.” He said audiences would be able to follow along on “an emotional level,” and hinted towards “a sad and shocking ending.”

Lazarus opens this autumn.
