British-Bengali artist Tara Lily has just released a new collaboration with King Krule, titled ‘Tropical Storm’. The track serves as the lead single from her upcoming EP ‘Quiet Nights’ (Early Takes), due out November 7 via Tru Thoughts. The collaboration brings together two of London’s most unique voices, both known for their moody, emotional styles and jazz-inspired sounds.

Tara Lily described the song as “a lucid dream playing in our minds again and again,” and it sounds that way. The atmosphere is dark but peaceful. Krule’s presence is subtle but his parts add a touch of chaos and mystery, while Lily’s voice keeps everything grounded. Together, they create something that feels both intimate and unpredictable.

The project follows her 2024 debut album ‘Speak in the Dark’, and it shows a softer, more personal side of her music. Tara says the songs come from “a quiet and beautiful period of time” when she wanted to strip back her sound and focus on what felt raw and real.

For King Krule, this collaboration fits naturally with where his music has been heading. After his 2023 album ‘Space Heavy’ and his 2024 EP ‘Shhhhhhh!’, he’s been experimenting with more delicate, introspective sounds. His work often deals with love and city life, which matches Lily’s moody, cinematic style perfectly.

To celebrate the release of her new EP, Tara Lily is heading out on a UK and European tour this November. The run begins in Britain, with shows in cities such as Bristol, Brighton, Manchester, and Edinburgh, before she performs at the Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall in London on November 18 – one of her most prestigious shows yet. After the UK leg, she’ll continue into Europe with performances in Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Paris, Berlin, and Frankfurt.

The tour is expected to have an intimate, atmospheric feel, matching the tone of her new music. Rather than big stage setups, fans can expect soft lighting and emotional storytelling through music. Each performance will likely blend her earlier songs from ‘Speak in the Dark’ with new tracks from ‘Quiet Nights (Early Takes)’, showing how her sound has evolved.

Tickets for her upcoming upcoming tour and her new EP are available here.

King Krule, real name Archy Marshall, has announced he is to release a new album, Space Heavy, later this summer. Scheduled to be released on June 9th through XL Recordings and Matador Records, the LP will be the fourth studio album released under the King Krule moniker, and Archy’s fifth overall. The announcement follows yesterday’s release of its lead single, “Seaforth”.

Watch “Seaforth” below:

Born in Southwark, London, King Krule initially began recording music in 2010, releasing his first material, the mixtape U.F.O.W.A.V.E., in the same year. His first full-length album, 6 Feet Beneath the Moon, was released in 2013 on his 19th birthday, proving to be a success, and this was shortly followed by his second album, A New Place 2 Drown (2015), which featured not only audio tracks but also visual art, including a short documentary and a 208-page visual art book. This was released under his real name due both to a deeper personal connection with the album and a change in genre, jumping from the jazz fusion and indie rock sound of his first to alternative hip hop and trip hop in this.

His next two albums, The Ooz and Man Alive!, released in 2o17 and 2020 respectively, were met with further critical acclaim, and these too oversaw a progression of Marshall’s genre transcendence, delving here into art-rock and nu jazz.

Watch “Dum Surfer”, from the LP The Ooz, below:

Space Heavy, it would appear from its lead single “Seaforth“, marks yet another experimental moment. The track is a mixture of post-punk and striped down indie rock, and carries with it a dreamy and ethereal quality that seems almost nostalgic in nature. Lyrically, the album was constructed during Marshall’s commutes between residences in London and Liverpool, allowing him to focus on the theme of space, but more specifically the ‘space between’. It was made with help from the members of King Krule’s live band, with James Wilson on bass, George Bass on drums, Jack Towell on guitar and Ignacio Salvadores on saxophone, and undoubtedly marks a new era for King Krule which will be sure to leave fans of his intoxicated and wanting more, as has previously been the case.

The release of the album in June will be followed immediately by a celebratory four-date UK tour. See below for tour dates and venues:

11/06/2023 – 100 Club – London
12/06 – Marble Factory – Bristol
13/06 – Invisible Wind Factory – Liverpool
15/06 – Pryzm – Kingston upon Thames

Dorset’s near-decade and a half-running music festival End Of The Road have returned in (almost) full-force this year, having been cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Whilst the initially proposed line-up for 2021 suffered slightly, with the likes of indie rock greats Pixies and Bright Eyes, unfortunately, dropping out, the festival was still able to host an exciting roster of groups and artists, including big names such as Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz, Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood and King Krule.

The festival, which debuted in 2006, celebrated its slightly belated fifteenth anniversary this year, featuring an eclectic melting pot of artists during its four-day proceedings and re-introducing live music in a way that harkened back to the days of pre-pandemic frivolity. Being a more modestly sized festival than the likes of Reading & Leeds, End Of The Road has long since had a capacity of 15,000 people, which was indeed fulfilled this year according to NME.

The four days have proven to be a roaring success, as evidenced by EOTR’s Twitter feed, which has been ablaze with delighted fans since the festival began on September 2nd, proclaiming how good it was to be back at a music festival and sharing pictures of a range of live performances. The assorted line-up of the festival certainly seems to have provided something to suit everyone’s taste, from the hazy psychedelic atmospheres of Japanese band Kikagaku Moyo to the jazz-flavoured post-punk of Squid and the searing-hot rhymes of London rapper Little Simz.

Singer and songwriter Archy Marchall, aka King Krule has released today a new album You Heat Me Up, You Cool Me Down.

The musician announced the album last month sharing a mysterious message: “Once spilt into the cheap 4-tracks and pirate software, now collosos energy redeemed into small diaphragms. Sat on toilets imagining the moment other animals would sing the very vibrations back to them. Climbing a ladder of fulfilment, that fulfils neither need or want, but in ascent maybe the organised grouping of heartbeats pounding into the universe for an hour and a half would not be better spent. I felt comfortable for once, young and uncomfortable with a tunnel of anxiety to walk through.”

The announcement came with a new video for “Stoned Again (live)” that shows King Krule throwing his guitar on the stage in the middle of a performance. You can watch the video below.

The new live album is King Krule’s first release since Man Alive from 2020 which we described as a record where the singer “has been searching for something, whether that be reassurance or stability or simply hope itself”.

The new album features 17 songs from his European tour including “Baby Blue” and “Out Getting Ribs”. The album can be purchase and streamed here.

Alongside the release, came out a film made by the musician’s long collaborator Reuben Bastienne-Lewis. It shows footage of the European Tour, mostly shows in Amsterdam and Paris that has happened weeks before the world went into lockdown. You can watch it below:

During his performance, there was a temporary power cut which lead to a great atmospheric moment with a front-row helping out with their lighters and phones, so he could continue with “his jazzy gumbo of indie-punk and rap”.

Like many festivals, this year’s event was cancelled due to the ongoing global pandemic. However, a number of the artists initially booked will still headline the 2021 event. In addition, the festival’s line-up also features some new additions, such as Perfume Genius, Arlo Parks, Sorry and Shygirl, who will all take to the festival stage come September.

The festival has been praised by fans and critics alike, with The Independent calling last years event a ‘weekend filled with unexpected thrills,’ and The Guardian stating it was full of ‘potent bacchanalia and mysticism’. With some if the best emerging artists from the UK and beyond set to grace the event, End Of The Road Festival 2021 is set to take the already beloved event to new heights.

It’s been a good minute since the ineffably cool Archy Marshall, aka King Krule, has graced our ears with the slouched blues and yawning baritone vocals that captured South London life. However the singer-songwriter has been hard at work on a new project, first teased last week as per Instagram a week ago.

Now more details of the project have emerged. Released under Krule’s real name Archy Marshall, along side his brother Jack Marshall, A New Place 2 Drown is a 208 page book accompanied by a soundtrack of 12 songs and a short 10 minute documentary. The multimedia project will chart the brothers lives and creative process through the mediums of visual art, music and words.

The press release states: “A New Place 2 Drown’ is a multi-disciplinary volume of work from brothers Jack and Archy Marshall, comprising a book, album and short film.”

“The book of poetry and artwork, published by TOPSAFE, invites readers into the brothers’ social/everyday lives in South London.”

“Also to be experienced in conjunction with the book is a 37-minute soundtrack of brand new music from Archy. The entire project is then tied together by a short film by Will Robson-Scott, which incorporates elements of both the book and the soundtrack.”

The Project is slated for a release on 10th December. Until then you can check out the project’s website and watch a trailer for A New Place 2 Drown below:
