The live performance will be part of a larger series of major outdoor concerts presented by Heritage Live Festivals and running from the 14th to the 17th of August, including performances by Michael Bublé, Stereophonics and more.

Giles Cooper of Heritage Live Festivals said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to bring one of the greatest pop artists of all time to the Royal Sandringham Estate for an exclusive UK headline show. Mariah Carey is an award-winner, a record-breaker, and an absolute global icon – this show will be historic.”

The icon was recently unveiled as a headliner for Brighton and Hove Pride. The annual parade will be returning to Preston Park in the UK’s queer capital this year with the pop star confirmed to be on the bill for August 2. Previous headliners included fellow pop legends Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Girls Aloud. The Royal event will be Mariah’s second UK show this summer. The singer had been previously lined up to perform in the country in 2020 which was later cancelled due to the COVID pandemic.

The hitmaker is set to perform some of her most popular song such as ‘We Belong Together’, ‘Visions Of Love’, ‘Touch My Body’, ‘Fantasy’, ‘Emotions’ and the festive favourite ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’.

Sandringham is known to be the King’s much-loved country estate where the Royal Family traditionally spends Christmas.

As a forever chart-topping icon, Mariah Carey holds the record for the most number one songs by a solo artist in Billboard Hot 100 history, with 19 chart-toppers to her name. Since her rise to fame in 1990, she has delivered some of the most enduring hits in pop music.

Sex Pistols’ bassist Glen Matlock recently played an updated version of the band’s classic hit, “God Save The Green”, to coincide with King Charles III’s coronation yesterday. The song was first released in 1977 and is known for its anti-establishment lyrics and controversial message.

The London’s 100 club was the location it took place to support the release of his new album, Consequences Coming, which was released last week. In the announcement of the gig, Matlock wrote: “I wander what type of warrant I’ll get?! Come on down to the 100 club this Saturday and find out.”

Matlock’s updated version features lyrics that does not shy away from addressing contemporary issues such as climate change, Brexit, and the Black Lives Matter movement. The lyrics also showcase Matlock’s wit and humor, as he critiques the current state of politics and society.

Ahead of the show, Matlock made it clear that he will not be changing the lyrics to the band’s iconic protest anthem because he believed that it was proving tricky to make the new lines rhyme but luckily, he found a way. Matlock introduced the reworked lyriccs. He confirmed that it was for “one night only” before singing the opening line, “We’re gonna save the King/ It ain’t just old thing”. You can see the footage of him performing the updated anthem below.

Matlock spoke to Channel 4 and said that it was a “bit weird” singing “God Save The Queen” when she is “not around anymore.” He added on to say, “Instead of changing that one word [King], you’ve got to change a good few of them to make it all work. I’m just doing it one time, for a laugh, I’m not re-recording the song and putting it out, that would be a whole publishing nightmare. I’m doing it for the people out there at that moment in time and why not? It’s a laugh. I like poking fun at the establishment.”

For one night only, the Sex Pistols will play 'God Save the King' – changing the title of their punk anthem.

Bassist Glen Matlock told @krishgm it was a "bit weird" singing the original as "she's not around any more". pic.twitter.com/RX2joOMcyw

When Matlock’s thoughts were shared in regards to his opinion about the coronation via The Guardian, he admitted that, “there’s just so many people in destitution at the moment in this country.” He then adds on to say, “I think it’s kind of rubbing their noses in it a little bit. It’s all a distraction, but that’s the country we live in. Things are bleak for a lot of people and I think the royal family is pretty much the same as Love Island or The X Factor. They’re kind of the opium of the masses, just keeping people quiet. This is England and that’s the way it is, what can I do about it? I just can rail against it every now and then.”

Sir Elton John has announced that he won’t be stopping live performances despite currently being on his farewell tour.

His Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour will end in July 2023, with Sir Elton confirming that he “will not be going on tour again” after this.

As reported by the Metro, Sir Elton has expressed the difficulty that touring causes, with him looking forward to “a little bit of freedom” to spend with his husband, David Furnish and their two sons, Zachary and Elijah. He explained, “Touring is exhausting for me now, and it takes me away from my family and my children.”

However, his fans can still hope to see him perform in the future, as he shared that “there may be the odd show.”

The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour began back in 2018 and has become the most lucrative tour in music history. The tour has already earned £678million with two months still left to go, and it is estimated that the tour will earn approximately £798million upon its completion. Sir Elton has very much challenged himself on this tour, with him having performed 330 shows in total by the end of the tour’s run.

To keep it interesting for himself and fans alike, Sir Elton’s setlists have varied from show to show, with the epics such as “Rocket Man” and “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” being accompanied by lesser known tracks including “Burn Down the Mission” and “Have Mercy on the Criminal.”

Sir Elton has also recorded a concert movie, Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium, available to watch on Disney+. The movie documents his final North American show, featuring special guests and explosive performances of his biggest hits from a career spanning many decades.

Despite suggesting that shows outside of his tour could be on the cards, Sir Elton did recently turn down the opportunity to perform at King Charles III’s Coronation Concert. This came as a surpise to fans, as Sir Elton has been a firm favourite of the Royals for many years, famously forming close relationships with Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth II.

Sir Elton performed a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II following her passing in September 2022, as well as attending Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011, and performing at the luncheon of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018.

Sir Elton is also close friends with King Charles and Queen Camilla, having invited the pair to his own wedding to David Furnish back in 2005.

Sir Elton’s lack of attendance was not meant to be viewed as a snub however, with his team confirming to Rolling Stone that it was simply due to scheduling conflicts.

Music has, over the past century or so, been a vehicle for celebration, celebrating the good things in life, the special things that make life worth living; love, friendship, happiness. Music has, however, also been used as a means of protest, protesting the ills of life, the injustices of society that make the world an inherently worse place to live in; war, racism, financial inequality.

Woody Guthrie, in 1940, wrote “This Land Is Your Land“, critisising the uneven distribution of wealth in the US, and in 1979 American punk band the Dead Kennedys released “Kill the Poor“, a scathing satirical commentary on the same topic. In 1977, this time in Britain, and in the same year as Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee, the pioneering punk band the Sex Pistols released “God Save The Queen“, also using satire to put their devastatingly clear point across, that the British people do not need the British Royal family, or, as Rotten sings, the “facist regime“.

Listen to “God Save The Queen” by the Sex Pistols below:

While the Pistols’ track is still, by some way, the best known and most successful anti-monarchist song, other artists have voiced their discontent with the royal elite of this nation. The Smiths, in 1986, penned “The Queen Is Dead“, while the Stone Roses, to the tune of the traditional English ballad “Scarborough Fair“, released the short, sweet and unmistakably direct “Elizabeth My Dear“, and then, in 1992, came the Manic Street Preachers with their brutally anti-royalist number “Repeat“.

Listen to “Elizabeth My Dear” below:

And now enter Scottish punk band Gutterblood, with special guest Bonnie Prince Bob, with their contribution to the topic at hand. They have released “Gardyloo“, possibly the most anti-royal, and certainly the most combative of the lot, on the eve of King Charles III’s coronation.

The track holds no bars in insults nor imagery, labelling the current king a “Royal fool”, an”inbred son“, and a “mollycoddled imbecile festooned in golden shite“. His supposed ills are called out as well, implicating that, because “Diana rode an Arab“, he “bumped her off in Paris“, and his ties to Jimmy Saville and Rolf Harris are explicitly mentioned.

Bonnie Prince Bob then lyrically reminds His Majesty just why, is his opinion, the royal family is disliked so much by the dispossessed of this country: “Your riches come from workers’ toil and that’s why you’re despised“. The king, in an ongoing scene within the song, has his royal entourage rushed and is then lead to the guillotine and promptly beheaded, thereby allowing Bonnie Prince Bob a triumphant sense of justice.

Watch the music video for “Gardyloo” below:

Brian May, recognisable as the Guitarist of iconic British rock band Queen, received a knighthood on Tuesday 14 March. The musician, animal welfare advocate and astrophysicist attended an investiture ceremony at Buckingham palace and was knighted by King Charles III for his services to music and charity. Brian May attended the ceremony with his wife, Anita Dobson. He was made a ‘Knight Bachelor’, meaning he will now be formally known as Sir Brian May. Saxophonist, YolanDa Brown, received an OBE at the same ceremony for her services to music, music education and broadcasting.

Brian May posted a photo to his Instagram of a captured moment during the ceremony where he received his knighthood. The photo shows King Charles lowering his sword on May’s shoulder. Brian wrote a short and sweet caption for the photo, ‘‘No Words ! Bri’’

Aside from gaining worldwide success with Queen throughout the 80’s, The 75-year-old British icon has been responsible for creating some of Queens most well known songs, such as ”Somebody To Love” and ”Don’t Stop Me Now.” The legendary band Queen, consisting of late-front man Freddie Mercury, Bassist John Deacon, Drummer Rodger Taylor and Guitarist Brian May, toured the world together and acquired numerous number ones.

Brian May is no stranger to the royal family or royal residences. In 2002, May performed a guitar solo rendition of ‘’God Save The Queen’’ on the roof top of Buckingham palace. The guitarist also performed at the Platinum jubilee, last June. Brian May appeared in a sketch with Paddington Bear, tapping the beat to ‘’We Will Rock You’’ on a teacup.

Brian May also discussed that the band Queen, which now has 2009 American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert as their front man, are considering touring again this year. Fans had the pleasure of attending re-scheduled concerts of their tour last year, as the tour was previously cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions preventing them from performing their shows. May tours with Adam lambert, as well as legendary Queen drummer Rodger Taylor. Original Queen band member and bassist, John Deacon, has no involvement in the tour.

Brian May spoke with a PA news agency, saying ‘’We’re thinking about touring, I can say that. I’m hoping I stay in good health – at the moment I seem to be in pretty good health, which is always great.’’ May suffered a heart attack in May 2020 and underwent surgery where he had three stents fitted.

The guitarist continued “It’s not been an easy road and there’s been times I thought I would never do it again. But we all seem to be OK so we’re looking at doing some touring, and of course we tour at the top level and it’s very high energy and high demand on your fitness. If we don’t go out until October or whatever I’ll be working on my fitness from now on.”
