Unlike a lot of bands from the 70s and 80s who are still touring and/or releasing music today, Killing Joke’s current line-up features all four original members of the band, despite going through numerous changes here and there throughout their four decades as a band. The group have been releasing music steadily since their inception, with their most recent album having been released in 2015, entitled Pylon. The record is their fifteenth studio album, and proved to be the band’s first UK Top 20 album since 1994. A deluxe edition of the album was released in the same year, containing five additional tracks. The band’s career commenced in 1979, and have long been considered a highly influential group, not just within post-punk but within other genres too, with the likes of heavy metal titans Metallica, grunge legends Nirvana and industrial rock outfit Nine Inch Nails citing the band as inspiration.

The band’s self-titled debut album was released in 1980, and whilst very much fit the sonic mould of post-punk of the time, their approach was noticeably heavier than peers such as Wire or Siouxsie and the Banshees. One only has to look to a song such as “Wardance” to see this; the guitar and bass are metallic and aggressive and are accompanied by a thundering drum beat and a downright scary distorted filter applied to the vocals. Later, the group would find commercial success with their fifth studio album (1985’s Night Time) and the tune “Love Like Blood” which was the second single from that album.

  In an interview with Louder Sound, Bassist youth says “It is our privilege to Honour The Fire and celebrate the white heat purification by sound,” says bassist Youth. “Join with us in a fearless leap through the sacred flames, into the unknown. Let’s create the future we all desire, by sonically destroying the one we don’t.”  “The fire in our hearts that has sustained and protected us for over 40 years, never goes out,” says Jaz Coleman, the band’s frontman.

The band has also recently released a collection of remastered tracks from their 2o15 album ‘Pylon’ as they announced on twitter in April. Their tweet stated, “Gathers! ‘Pylon’ is now available for pre-order.  These 10 remastered original tracks plus 8 extra bonus tracks (produced by the band and Tom Dalgety, whose credits include the hugely successful Royal Blood album) are very much music as ritual”

Fans responded positively to the tour announcement, further jokingly requesting new music, with one fan tweeting the band “I’ll be there. Err.. new album too pls lads”
