British punk band Kid Kapichi recently shared an exciting announcement that they will perform with their original members for one final time on 12 July for their show KID KAPICHI AND FRIENDS following the departure of Ben Beetham (guitarist) and George Macdonald (drummer).

In the post announcing the departure of the two musicians, Beetham and Macdonald hint at their own solo projects, revealing their desire to “give your all to something new”. Here, Kid Kapichi assured fans that “This is not the end for Kid Kapichi” and revealed their final performance announcement to come. The KID KAPICHI AND FRIENDS final show is set to take place at De La Warr Pavillion in Bexhill-on-sea near the band’s hometown in Hastings, paying tribute to their formation in 2013.

Initially, the band was formed of Beetham and Jack Wilson and they later recruited Macdonald and Eddie Lewis who had been childhood friends. They released their debut song ‘Ice Cream’ in 2016, a playful power punk track.

Their debut album ‘This Time Next Year’ was released several years later in 2021 during the COVID lockdown. The album is a gritty and raw release surrounding their frustration and anger at the world from their experience growing up poor. The album reached the UK Top 40 on the Official Albums Chart. In an interview with Tinnitist, the band explained the title of the album, sharing “Everyone’s lives are on pause. We’re all waiting and hoping for this time next year.”.

In an interview with Rock Sound, the band explained their debut album in comparison with their 2022 album ‘Here’s What You Could Have Won’, stating “‘This Time Next Year’ felt like a hopeful outlook on a bleak situation. ‘Here’s What You Could Have Won’ felt like an opportunity missed, and a chance to do better after we screwed up.”

‘Here’s What You Could Have Won’ was released before ‘There Goes The Neighbourhood’ in 2024, their last album released before the departure of Beetham and Macdonald.

The two former members have been working on projects alongside the band for years, with Beetham producing for fellow Hastings-born rock band Hot Wax on their EP ‘Invite me Kindly’.

He has also announced his involvement in engineering Olivia Lunny’s ‘As It Was’ as well as producing for We Are Monakis on their song ‘Say What You Want’. Macdonald has been less public with his solo creative endeavours, though he has shared tracks he has worked on outside of the band.

The band’s final show with the original members will surely make for a great send off to Macdonald and Beetham. Tickets are available here.

Kid Kapichi, the talented band from Hastings, has recently revealed exciting details about their highly anticipated upcoming album There Goes The Neighbourhood. Serving as a follow-up to their successful 2022 release Here’s What You Could Have Won, this new album is set to hit the shelves on 15th March 2024 through Spinefarm, much to the delight of their dedicated fanbase.

Jack Wilson said “I know it’s a cliche, but this really is our best work ever. We put everything into this record, but actively decided not to stray too far from the path of ‘Here’s What You Could Have Won’, as we felt there was still more ground to be covered and honed on that vibe. Lyrically and musically, it’s more concise, meaningful and deliberate, which ties everything together really well; it feels like a collection of songs from the same family.”

To give fans a taste of what’s to come, Kid Kapichi has also released their latest single “Tamagotchi”, a track that pays homage to the ’90s. The song captures the essence of the era, with its nostalgic sound and catchy melodies. Accompanying the single is a captivating music video that further enhances the ’90s vibes.

The band’s most recent song was described by frontman Jack Wilson, he said, “Tamagotchi’ is a song about turning 30 and feeling for the first time like your life is running away from you. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found myself being more nostalgic about the past and the ‘good times’. This song is a homage to those times and fond memories whilst stubbornly clawing onto them.”

Jack added, “Tamagotchi’ is probably one of the most fun videos we’ve ever shot, videos like these write themselves, when the imagery of the lyrics is so strong, so we didn’t mess about. We tried our best to replicate those feelings and memories we had when growing up.”

In addition to the album announcement and single release, Kid Kapichi has also confirmed an upcoming headline tour, much to the excitement of their fans. This tour will give audiences the opportunity to experience the band’s electrifying live performances and witness the new album’s songs come to life on stage. The band took to social media and said, “UK! Pre-sale for our tour starts tomorrow. Pre-order any format of ‘There Goes The Neighbourhood’ from our store to get access from 10am tomorrow morning!!”

The band added, “Speaking about that, the band added: “We are and always have been a live band. It’s exciting to release new singles, new albums and new videos, but for us, it’s always a way to just get out there and play bigger and better shows. That’s why we started playing music and it’s why we continue to do so. To be announcing our biggest headline tour of our careers to date is amazing. Playing venues like Kentish Town Forum has always been an ambition, and the fact we have the incredible fanbase that we do to make all this possible is a dream come true.”

With their unique sound and captivating energy, Kid Kapichi continues to solidify their place in the music industry. Their upcoming album promises to be a thrilling and dynamic collection of songs that showcase the band’s growth and evolution.

Punk band Kid Kapichi have recently collaborated with duo Bob Vylan for a new single that was released earlier this week, titled “New England“. The track tackles a number of important issues in our country today, such as “political apathy, the class divide and Brexit … [as well as] racism and xenophobia“. Kid Kapichi vocalist Jack Wilson said that the song “targets the blindly patriotic, grabs them by the shoulders, shakes them and shouts ‘wake up’“.

However, it seems that a lot of the anger and blame is saved for the government and the class divide, with Wilson opining that “We’re living in scary times where the top of society have found a way to turn the working class against themselves. We become more confident in our xenophobia as it’s only reinforced by our government on a daily basis.“

Both Kid Kapichi and Bob Vylan are rising stars in the industry at the moment. Kid Kapichi come from Hastings and consist of four members; vocalist/guitarists Jack Wilson and Ben Beetham, as well as Eddie Lewis on bass and George Macdonald on drums. Their debut album, This Time Next Year, was released last February and received strong reviews from NME and Gigwise. Later this year they plan to be embarking on their biggest headline show yet at London’s Electric Ballroom in May, as well as other dates throughout the year, such as at the Kendal Calling and 2000trees festivals.

Bob Vylan have been described by Kerrang as “the most exciting and important punk band in the UK“. They have a new album soon to be released as well, due out on April 22nd. The 14-track release has a projected title of Bob Vylan Presents the Price of Life, and will follow last November’s single “GDP“, a song that was about “racism, class [and] social struggles“.

The duo also has some experience with live shows, having supported the likes of Biffy Clyro and The Offspring, which is useful considering they’ll be embarking on a 13-date UK headline tour next May-June. On this matter, the band said that “We’ve loved supporting various bands this year and we want to take this energy into 2022 with our own headline tour and continue connecting with people“.

If you’re excited about Kid Kapichi’s upcoming shows over this year then you can look here for ticket details. As for Bob Vylan’s new album, you can pre-order here. Information on their May-June tour can be found here.
