Far From Saints have a busy summer ahead of them with several sold-out shows and festivals on their schedules. The band will be playing gigs in Glasgow, Leeds, London, Tetbury, and Rugeley as well as Glastonbury, Latitude, and Black Deer Festival this year. At the end of this month, the trio will also be appearing as the special guests for Kings of Leon during their two-day residency at The Racecourse Ground in Wrexham.

Behind the scenes of Jones’ 2019 solo UK, the trio first started experimenting together. The Wind and the Wave, who were supporting Kelly, joined the musician on a cover of Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty’s “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” which snowballed into their debut album – recorded in just nine days.

“We never really said to each other, ‘What are we writing about here?’ It was much more about chasing an atmosphere and sentiment,” Kelly said about the writing process in a press release. “When the record was finished, it all felt so easy. I could stand back and listen to it as an audience member”.

Unfortunately for the band, the pandemic halted the record’s release as Jones said in the press release, “We were an ocean apart after the pandemic hit and the record sat on a shelf for nearly two years.” The album eventually was pulled from hibernation and mixed by Al Clay who previously worked with Blur and Pixies.

The band announced that their debut LP would be on its way back in March and have released three singles: the sweet country-inspired ballad “Let’s Turn This Back Around”, the rockier “Take It Through The Night”, and the uplifting “Screaming Hallelujah”. “It’s an album and it’s meant to be listened to from start to finish. That’s what I’d like for people to do,” Lynn added. “Listen to the whole thing and see it as a complete work on its own.”

The track listing for the new album includes re-recordings of a clutch of classic Stereophonics hits – including Hurry Up And Wait, Mr Writer, Local Boy In The Photograph, Maybe Tomorrow, Traffic, Just Looking and Dakota – as well as some unexpected covers. One early standout released on YouTube today is Kelly Jones’ stunning rendition of Kris Kristofferson’s soul ballad Help Me Make It Through The Night, which had also been masterfully covered by Gladys Knight & The Pips in 1972.

The new LP, which is due out on December 4th, will be accompanied by a documentary film (also titled Don’t Let The Devil Take Another Day). The film will premiere at the BFI in London on November 4th – with a limited number of tickets still available online – ahead of a general cinematic release on November 27th. The documentary will also be available for virtual on-demand screening from December 3rd.

Director Ben Lowe captured much of the film’s footage during Kelly Jones’ intimate 2019 solo tour. He told NME: “I’ve been to hundreds of gigs in my life – shooting with my camera or purely as a fan – but I’d never experienced a show quite like Kelly’s on this tour. You recognise there’s something pretty special happening on-stage if the performances, and the stories he was telling between them, can make an audience laugh and cry on the same night. I wanted to make this documentary feel as truthful and heartfelt as Kelly’s shows. I knew it would be beautiful to hear these songs in a theatre, but I was really blown away. After the tour when Kelly told me about his first few months of the year, I felt inspired by the courage and honesty of it all.”

A statement on the Stereophonics’ official website highlights that the track selection for the new record – which comes ten years after the tragic death of the band’s much-loved original drummer Stuart Cable – will “pull together the songs that got him through the worst of times, whilst telling stories of how those songs came about.”

Speaking about the announcement Jones said “I’ll be performing some old songs, lots of songs I don’t normally do, some new songs, songs that have inspired me and stories that have inspired me. The tour is about overcoming things and moving on from obstacles and building strength from that. I am looking forward to performing with some new musicians and creating some beautiful moments.”

Fans will also be able to see Jones, and the rest of the band a selection of festivals and events also this summer, with the band playing 6 dates from May to August. These dates kick off at This Is Tomorrow Festival in Newcastle before heading to Westonbirt Arboretum, The Eden Project, Suffolk, Dublin,Lytham and Swansea

Earlier in the year Jones released a new solo track titled ‘Chaos From The Top Down’ a single from the perspective of a 15 year old boy who has just been shot. Speaking to the NME upon it’s release Jones said the focuses on the “imagined perspective of a 15-year-old boy laying in the road after being shot. He’s reflecting in his time of dying about his life and the choices he made through the lack of options and opportunities he felt he had in today’s Britain. It also touches on the tags and labels that have been stuck on him. The stereotypes and clichés that were placed on him. It’s based on a true story that happened just outside my street. It’s happening everywhere. I’ve always written about what’s going on around me or within me since ‘Local Boy In The Photograph’ in 1996. It doesn’t fit into the style of the album I’m writing and the current political climate inspired me to release it now.
