Glaswegian post-rock outfit Mogwai’s long term guitarist John Cummings has quit the band in order “to pursue his own musical projects”. The band will continue as a quartet and will be joined by two more musicians for forthcoming live performances.

The band made a statement on their website saying:

“We are sad to announce that John Cummings has decided to leave Mogwai to pursue his own musical projects.

“We will continue as a four piece of Dominic Aitchison, Stuart Braithwaite, Martin Bulloch and Barry Burns and shall be joined on our upcoming live shows by Scott Paterson and Luke Sutherland.

“We wish John all the best with the future.”

Cummings joined the band in 1995 as their then-fourth member, and appeared on the band’s 1997 debut album Mogwai Young Team.

Mogwai recently posted a photo on their Facebook page from within their own Castle of Doom Studios in Glasgow, claiming they are working on a new album. It will be their first album since 2013’s Rave Tapes, although in October they celebrated their 2o year anniversary with Central Belters, A three disc compilation spanning the bands impressive career. The band also celebrated with a series of high profile UK shows culminating in two nights at the Roadhouse in Camden.
