After becoming TikTok’s song of the summer earlier this year, the track has gone on to accumulate around 6.6 million videos on the platform.

Jess Glynne said she “feels blessed” to secure the TikTok title this year, “It’s the most amazing feeling knowing that 10 years later a song that means so much to me, and was such an important part of my journey into music and earning my stripes as a solo artist – to 10 years later to be able to celebrate again and again throughout this year – has been insane.”

She said the trend has given the song a “new lease of life” and it has become one of her favourite songs to perform due to the “joy” she gets from the track.

Jess revealed that she has listened to herself over the plane airways once when she went on a Jet2 holiday to Corfu with her family, “I was a bit nervous, I was sat right at the front next to my mum – it was quite funny actually.”

Despite being a part of the internet meme, Jess said her own TikTok feed looks a little different. Normally when scrolling through the app, she is stopping on cooking videos, cat compliations, and videos where people are caught falling down.

She admitted that her favourite Jet2 Holiday videos are when parents get heir kids to say the famous line “nothing beats a Jet2 holiday”. Her all-time favourite version of the trend is when a man is getting a surprise in his hotel room. She said, “He went to open the curtain and the window was like really tiny, that really tickled me – it was like a prison cell.”

Victorious Festival 2024 will run from August 23-25 with Fatboy Slim and Snow Patrol co-headlining the event’s opening night. Jamie T and Biffy Clyro will then take the headlining spot for Saturday and Sunday night respectively. The 2023 instalment of Victorious Festival featured another star-studded line up as the likes of Mumford and Sons, Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs, Jamiroquai and Ellie Goulding were amongst the big names of performers.

The festival also houses a comedy stage, and at next year’s event, leaders of the industry Russell Howard and Frankie Boyle will be headlining on Friday and Saturday night at Southsea seafront.

One of the most successful dance artists of all time, the Grammy and Brit award-winning DJ and producer Fatboy Slim will bring a memorable Friday night opening party packed full of hits. His attendance of the festival had previously been teased as a sign saying “Praise You”, in reference to his hit song of the same name, appeared at the event’s location.

An industry insider has given the following information concerning the singer’s recent career move, “There is no doubt that Jess is a force to be reckoned with in British music. Her songs have been wildly successful. But there hasn’t been a massive pick-up outside Europe. Now she feels like it is the time to branch out.”  

In January a source from The Sun reported that Glynne had split from Atlantic Records due to a disagreement concerning her sound and future releases, amidst the issues the singer also disbanded from her management team. Glynne’s label change then made her available to team up with Jay-Z’s hugely successful firm, the newspaper’s source also reported that the singer attended meetings in Los Angeles to discuss her musical future with Roc Nation.   

The source continued to discuss the news, “She wanted to change up her sound and people should expect something different from her when she returns. But given her obvious talents when it comes to singing and songwriting, Roc Nation is confident there are even bigger and better things on the horizon for Jess.”  

Glynne first rose to fame after signing with Atlantic Records in 2014 when her tremendous talent was heard as a featured artist on the Clean Bandit single “Rather Be”. The single was released on 17th January 2014 and reached number one within the UK singles charts; the track also won Best Dance Recording at the 2015 Grammy Awards.   

The singer has also achieved great acclaim as a solo artist, with Glynne having released two studio albums. Her debut album, I Cry When I Laugh, was released on 21st August 2015 and became a worldwide success. The album peaked at number one within the UK albums charts and sired six singles, including two songs that reached number one. The first hit single, “Hold My Hand” was released on 20th March 2015 and was featured on the soundtrack for Bridget Jones’ Baby. The second number one single, “Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself”, was released on 14th August 2015 and was the fourth track to be released from the album. 

Rumours concerning the London born songstress’ new material has been circulating since the news of her label move was reported. The singer’s move to Roc Nation will surely benefit Glynne’s sound, as the conglomerate offers multiple services including media relations, touring support, merchandising opportunities and publishing. Founded in 2008 by Jay Z, the record label is home to a roster of music’s most influential and popular artists including Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Megan Thee Stallion and Rhianna.

Jess has previously had seven UK Number 1’s, which is the most ever for a British Female solo artist. Her new festive song is in the running for a Christmas UK Number 1 hit. Signed CD and Vinyl copies of the single will be available to purchase from Amazon UK from the 18th December, a week before the Christmas Number 1 is revealed.

Official Charts have reported Jess to have said about her new Christmas song, “I chose ‘This Christmas’ by Donny Hathaway as I love the tone of this record and I’m thankful that Amazon Music have given me the opportunity to do my own version of it for them. This year has been such a hard one and there’s no doubt this Christmas is going to be difficult for so many people. Music is so important as it gives us moments of escapism and I think more than ever having an uplifting feel good song is so necessary.”

Bieber has had recent success with his new release ‘Holy’ featuring Chance the rapper, taken from his sixth ‘new era’ studio album, which went straight to Number 1 in the UK’s Official Trending Chart. Speaking about his new Christmas cover, Bieber said to NME, “‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’ has always been one of my favourite songs to celebrate the holidays and I’m excited to team up with Amazon Music to share my own version, with my fans.” 

As well as these two tracks exclusive to the streaming service, other artists taking part in the programme include Mary J Blige, who has covered Whams ‘Last Christmas’ and Jamie Cullum who is releasing a version of ‘In The Bleak Mid Winter.’ Lennon Stella has also joined the programme with her rendition of the Carpenter’s song ‘Merry Christmas Darling,’ along with Carrie Underwood who’s releasing her original track ‘Favourite Time Of Year.’

The vice president of Music Industry at Amazon Music, Ryan Redington said to NME, “This Christmas season, it’s important for us to bring our customers more reasons to smile, and to create ways for them to connect with their favourite artists while at home with family.”  Katie Perry was the artist to put out a festive tune through the Amazon original series with ‘Cozy Little Christmas,’ which peaked in the charts at number 22. Last year Ellie Goulding celebrated her first chart topper in four years with her rendition of the Joni Mitchell song, ‘River’ which went straight to Number 1.

Patrick Clifton, head of Amazon Music UK  told NME, “After Katy Perry’s top forty Christmas Original in 2018 and Ellie Goulding’s ‘River’ topping the charts last year, we’re really excited for our listeners to hear Jess Glynne’s take on the Donny Hathaway classic, as well as the rest of the collection of Christmas Originals that will connect music fans with some of their favourite artists.”

Jess was dressed in a grey hoodie, black baseball cap and trainer despite the high-end restaurant’s “smart casual” dress code. She went on to say how she was more than welcome at another restaurant and finished her post by saying; “please check yourself if this is how you treat people cause it’s rude, off putting, embarrassing and most definitely not inviting. We were made to wait and 2 members of staff came to look at us and make a decision based on our appearance. I think the attitude of your staff needs to change as that was pure discrimination. Thanks and bye.”

The public did not react well to Jess Glynne’s rant, she has been repeatedly called out for being ignorant to the issues in the world at the moment and has been accused of being selfish. Another issue people had with this incident was that Jess could have been putting jobs at risk by calling the workers out. This is especially worrying given the current crisis these industries are facing because of the pandemic.

However, some other celebrities seemed to agree with Jess. Musician Cass Lowe commented on the post saying; “Fuck that place!” Professor Green also commented to let Jess know; “Can’t lie, you didn’t miss out on much food wise.”

Sexy Fish Restaurant released a statement on the incident to HuffPost UK; “Sexy Fish supports individuality and style but respectfully ask all out guests to acknowledge our dress code which is published on our website. We are huge fans of Jess and feel sorry that she feels that she has been treated insensitively.”

In an Instagram post, Jess explained the no show was down to exhaustion and anxiety, but later claims polarised her explanation, suggesting that she had been partying with the Spice Girls.

Jess had been supporting The Spice Girls on the Saturday night as a part of their comeback tour’s final show. Amongst those attending the backstage event were Adele, Niall Horan, formerly of One Direction and ‘Changes’ singer, Will Young.

The timeline of the night has Jess leaving Wembley at 5am on Sunday, where the entourage continued on to a hotel, where they remained until around 7am. She was due to travel for the Isle of Wight at 9am by car, and begin her set at 6.30pm, where her band and stage had been set for her. Subsequently, ten minutes later, promoter John Giddings took to the stage to call off her set.

John Giddings berated the ‘I’ll Be There’ star, saying, “She will never be booked to play the Isle of Wight again.”

He further adds, “It shows no regards for people that bought a ticket. It’s so sad that an artist would do that to their fans. She’s let them down.” 

This year, Jess was nominated for Best British Single with her hit, “I’ll Be There’, and has currently sold over 13 million records, and collaborated with artists such as Clean Bandit, Rudimental and Route 94.

In response to the set’s cancellation, Jess messaged her fans on Instagram, “I am a human being and I can’t help that my body sometimes gives up on me. I am so so gutted, sorry and upset that I couldn’t perform yesterday. I came all the way I got ready and was about to head to stage but I just couldn’t do it. I was incredibly weak and full of anxiety.”

Jess had to pull out of the Isle of Wight Festival in 2015 due to illness, replaced late on by Ella Eyre.

The annual spectacular, that is Capital’s Summertime Ball, will be returning to Wembley Stadium, on Saturday the 8th of June 2019. Among the names announced, this morning (May 01) was Rita Ora, Anne Marie, Sigala, Tom Walker, Jax Jones, and, Norwegian singer and BBC Sound of 2018 winner, Sigrid.

Sigrid has described playing the iconic London landmark, that is Wembley, as “insane”. Meanwhile, Speaking about her performance at the Summertime Ball, in June, Sigrid, said: “I’m going to love it. I probably should say that I have a masterplan but I think we’re going to run up and have fun and play our favourite songs.”

They will share the stage with the recently reunited US pop group the Jonas Brothers, with their appearance at the Summertime Ball marking their first UK show in ten years. The band recently dropped new track ‘Sucker’, taken from their forthcoming album, ‘Hippieness Begins’, which will be released the day before the Summertime Ball – Friday the 7th of June 2019.

The series of big reveals kicked off, on Monday (April 29), with the first six artists being revealed including Halsey – who won the Rising Star award at this year’s Global Awards. Among the other names announced, on Monday, were Mark Ronson, 5 Seconds of Summer, Ellie Goulding, and Khalid.

Six more acts will be revealed everyday of the week until the full line-up is revealed. Meanwhile, on Tueday (April 30), Roman Kemp revealed that Maroon 5; Jess Glynne; Ava Max; Lauv; Jonas Blue; and Mabel, will be heading the Summertime Ball, next month. It has been revealed that one final massive name will be revealed on Thursday, (May 02), morning’s show.

Today’s reveal comes after Capital announced, at the weekend, that they would be using billboards across the UK to reveal the acts that will be performing at this year’s Summertime Ball. They also revealed that they would be enlisting the help of listeners to reveal the acts that were on the billboards, by getting them to get in touch with the station, by sending in photos of the names displayed on the billboards.

Speaking about the series of big reveals, Founder & Executive President of Global, Ashley Tabor OBE, said: “Today we kicked off our massive reveal week on Capital Breakfast by announcing some of the world’s biggest artists for Capital’s Summertime Ball.

“We are especially excited to confirm the news that so many fans have been waiting for – the Jonas Brothers are returning to the UK and playing the Ball. We’re only just getting started and we can’t wait to reveal yet more huge acts for the UK’s hottest summer party on Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp tomorrow morning!”

The star was scheduled to entertain crowds at War Child’s BRITs Week Together event, on Monday night, which comes just days ahead of the annual music ceremony, which will be held at London’s O2 Arena, on the 20th of February 2019. The singer has previously undergone two operations on her vocal chords and this latest illness has forced her to postpone her show, after doctors put her on “strict vocal rest”.

The news was confirmed on War Child’s official Twitter page. With them tweeting: “We’re so sorry to tell you @JessGlynne’s show for #BRITsWeek together with @O2music is being postponed due to her being on strict vocal rest.”

Replying to War Child’s post, the singer revealed that she is gutted, and apologised to her fans for letting them down. Responding to War Child’s post, Glynne said: “I’m really sorry that I have to move this show. I hope you understand that I must look after my health and the doctor has told me to rest so I have to do so.”

However, the powerhouse singer has insisted that her May shows will still go ahead, as planned. She continued “I’ll be back in May to do this show and I promise it will be worth the wait.”

Jess was set to perform in next week’s awards, and she is also in the running to take home four gongs. The singer has been nominated for Best Female Solo Artist, as well as Best British Video of the Year, for her collaboration with Rudimental, Macklemore and Dan Caplen on the track, ‘These Days’. Jess has also received two nods in the British Single of the Year, category with her single, ‘I’ll Be There’, as well as, ‘These Days’.

This is not the first time Jess has been forced to pull out of a performance due to illness, in 2015 she was unable to take to the stage, at Glastonbury festival and the Isle of Wight festival. The singer has previously undergone two operations on her vocal chords, and fears another operation could put an end to her career for good.

Speaking previously to The Sun, Glynne said: “I will never let that happen. I can’t afford to let that happen. Honestly, I couldn’t have another operation. One, I don’t want to go through it. And two, my voice is already… it’s not weak but it’s not as strong as a normal person’s. So to have another operation over scar tissue would just result in weaker and weaker muscle. I can’t let it happen.”

Jesse Glynne and The Human League will take the stage kicking the festival off the on Friday night. Followed by Nile Rodgers and Chic who will bring “feel good” vibes on Saturday. BBC Radio 1 DJ, Annie Mac, will hit the decks ending the weekend of celebrations on Sunday night.

For younger fans, pop duo and YouTube stars, Max and Harvey will also perform a live set and Q&A session at the Castle Stage.

Camp Bestival curators Josie and Rob da Bank have been working hard to build the festival’s success, which first started in 2008. Rob da Bank, said: “We’re really proud to unveil two of the world’s biggest party starters in their own fields – Nile and Chic go back a long way with us and they’re going to have everyone dancing at Lulworth Castle.

“BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac is one of the UK’s best DJs, tastemakers and a mama to boot so we know she’s going to press all the right buttons. This year we’ve got some whacking great headliners and loads of amazing family activities, we will be prioritising our teens to keep them happy with a new screen free area avoiding technology.”

Other acts which have joined the lineup are Sister Sledge, Sara Cox, Big Shaq, Vengaboys, East 17 and Spice Girl’s Melanie C. Camp Bestival will also host entertainment for younger children with appearances from Big Fish Little Fish, Mr Tumble, Mister Makes and The Shapes and CBBC presenters Sam and Mark.

This year’s nominations were unveiled on ITV’s The BRITs Are Coming preview show, on January 12, in a new 5pm slot. Hosted by Claro Amfo, it featured performances by Little Mix, Ezra, Jess Glynne, Not3s and Mabel, as well as Critics’ Choice winner Sam Fender.
