Boss Emily Eavis has announced that Janelle Monae will headline the West Holts Stage at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. Speaking to Lauren Laverne on BBC 6 Music, Eavis said that the festival was 90% of the way there with confirming the line up.

MTV Music Award winner Janelle Monae played the festival in 2015, with Eavis calling her previous performance incredible. After the success of her critically acclaimed 2018 album ‘Dirty Computer’ Monae will make up a huge appearance for the festival.

Grime icon Stormzy has also been revealed as the first artist confirmed for the main stage Pyramid headliner on Friday (June 28), to mixed reviews from festival goers.

It has also been reported that Kylie Minogue has confirmed she will appear on the Sunday (June 30) playing on the Pyramid Stage during the teatime slot, that has previously been host to other legendary artists such as Neil Diamond, Lionel Richie and Dolly Parton.

Kylie took to twitter confirming her first gig at Glastonbury, after treatment for breast cancer forced her to cancel a headlining appearance some 14 years previously.

Kylie wrote: “I’m so thrilled to announce that i’ll be playing the ‘Legend slot’ on Sunday 30th June @Glasto2019. It will be 14 years since I was originally meant to appear there and so much has happened up to now. I can’t wait to see you all there to share this special show”.

Eavis also discussed with Lauren Laverne the changes and developments that Aradia are making on the site. There is to be a completely new area, and completely new design. Bloc 9 are expanding down into the South East corner with a ‘mind blowing’ new installation. The Park will dos have something new appearing in it.

Other acts rumoured to be playing Glastonbury 2019 include Lana Del Rey, Paul McCartney, The Cure and Arctic Monkeys. The pop group The Spice Girls who are reforming for a string of stadium shows this summer, are also according to Mel B in talks with festival organisers.

Following the release of her glorious third album Dirty Computer, Janelle Monae has today announced a two UK tour dates, beginning in September 2018. You can see the full list of dates below, and tickets will go on sale here at 9am on June 8.

Monae’s third album gained massive acclaim upon its release, and she has since spoken candidly on the influence of her close friend and mentor Prince had on the project. The release of the album was initially delayed following the death of the iconic purple singer in 2016.

“There’s only one Prince and there will never be another. I had the opportunity to be inspired by Prince like the rest of the world growing up. In fact, I used to be terrified of Prince. I could not watch his videos. I had a dream that he chased me in a purple suit.” She explained to NME.

“It was something about watching this black man, I’d never seen a black man express himself like that, and it scared me. You know I don’t know if it was because maybe I hadn’t been comfortable with tapping into my fearlessness…it’s just like you got the sense that he was a free ass motherfucker, right? And I don’t know if I was ready to tap into my free as motherfucker nature, but I think what I love most is that I got the opportunity to get to know the man who everybody looked at as this mysterious, other-worldly being. You know I did get the opportunity to perform onstage with him.”

Monae also gained appreciation following a rousing speech on the Time’s Up movement at the Grammys earlier this year.

Singer, Actress, and all-round cultural-MVP Janelle Monae has revealed the full tracklist of her imminent third LP Dirty Computer, with some interesting features included.

The album itself drops on Friday April 27, and will be Monae’s first project since 2013’s The Electric Lady. The singer recently explained the the five year wait between albums was greatly influenced by the death of her close friend Prince in 2016.

“This was the person that I would literally call and talk to about sounds or: ‘How should I say this? Is this saying too much?’ I just never could imagine a time where I couldn’t pick up the phone or email him, and he’d contact me right back and we’d talk about all these things that I was unsure of” Monae said of the Purple One.

The 14 track album can be seen listed below, and features the likes of Pharrell Williams, Zoe Kravtiz, Grimes, and the Beach Boys’ head honcho Brian Wilson on the album’s title track.

1 Dirty Computer [feat. Brian Wilson]
2 Crazy, Classic, Life
3 Take a Byte
4 Jane’s Dream
5 Screwed [feat. Zoë Kravitz]
6 Django Jane
7 PYNK [feat. Grimes]
8 Make Me Feel
9 I Got the Juice [feat. Pharrell Williams]
10 I Like That
11 Stevie’s Dream
12 Don’t Judge Me
13 So Afraid
14 Americans
Three wildly differing singles and videos have already been released in the build to Dirty Computer’s release, in the Prince-heavy ‘Make Me Feel’, the hip-hop influenced ‘Django Jane’, and the dreamy pop song ‘PYNK’ most recently. You can check out the video for that above.
