September 13 marked the day that Tommy Robinson summoned his followers to the streets of London in a demonstration that saw north of 100,000 people plaster the capital in the flags of Britain.

The number of protestors could be seen in a video Robinson uploaded to his X page. It was the choice of song ‘Sit Down’ that commanded the vocalist of said song, and James frontman Tim Booth to the same platform, later that day.

Booth co-wrote ‘Sit Down’, a tune known by most people you’d pass on the street and definitely a universally loved anthem in the UK.

The English 65 year old took to his X account to say:

“Disgusted to see the cynical use of ‘Sit Down’by @TRobinsonNewEra.

“No permission was granted, and we are looking into our options.”

“The song and most of our topical lyrics, make it very clear where we stand, and it’s the antithesis of this organization”

The James frontman has previously made his and the band’s political stance incredibly blatant. In 2018 he compared the rise of Trump to that of Adolf Hitler in Nazi Germany saying: “I see him as an incredibly dangerous man for the planet”

James’s 2021 album ;All the Colours’ contains political and social criticism that supports an inclusive outlook. For instance, the work expresses opposition to discriminatory or exclusionary politics while addressing more general issues like racism, democracy, and authoritarianism.

The Independent has reported that : “If a band’s work has been copyrighted and is used unlawfully, they can initially issue a formal request in the form of a case and desist letter for the accused party to stop using their work, according to the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP).”

“It can then file a lawsuit for copyright infringement if no appropriate action is taken, which can lead damages payments or prevent the infringing party from using their work in future if successful.”

Booth has since posted further on the issue today, sarcastically saying “It’s touching, and hopefully revealing, to see the measured kind tweets from Tommy Robinson followers.

Robinson has issued no response thus far.

‘All The Colours Of You’, the single, ultimately speaks about the pandemic and it’s ups and downs. Tim Booth, the bands front man and vocalist, sings “tell me how you’re staying sane / haven’t hugged a human since the end of May / quarantine with you / our world’s a private zoo”. The wordsmith clearly indicates the trials of quarantining in this hopeful, driven track , with the chorus ringing out ‘We’re stuck in this cage / You’re rigging this game.’

Deer Shed Festival has confirmed its eleven edition, which will be held for three days from July 30 to August 1. It also revealed its exciting line-up that features James, Stereolab, Baxter Dury. Tickets are on sale now via its official site.

After being forced to take a pause this year due to the horrific outbreak of coronavirus, the North Yorkshire festival has promised its return to give exuberance to all festival goers in 2021. The organisers have now unveiled the rescheduled dates, which will take place on July 30 – August 1 at the site of Topcliffe village.

Accompanying the announcement of new dates, the festival also shared the names of wide-ranging artists who will perform. Leading the bill, Manchester rock band James will make a comeback there. According to Harrogate Informer, festival director Oliver Jones expressed supreme excitement for booking the “Sit Down” hitmaker to play, which reads:

“There’s no doubt james are one of the biggest bands we’ve ever booked for deer shed. Their back catalogue is astonishing, with track after track of excellent guitar anthems, and their most recent album confirmed that they are still at the absolute top of their game. I’m not sure we’ve ever had a band that can pack out leeds first direct arena before!”

He continued, “Curating a line-up of artists that we personally love every year is always a source of much pride for our team, and James now sit on top of what we think is both the best and most star-studded music bill we’ve ever put together.”

What’s more intriguing: Slowdrive’s Rachel Goswell and her husband Steve Clarke will bring their brand-new project The Soft Cavalry to the Lodge Stage on Saturday. Meanwhile, other indie icons like Dowdelin, Marthagunn, and Low Hummer will rock out on the In the Dock Stage.

Importantly, critic-beloved punk band Dream Wife appears in the bill. They will definitely slay the stage with songs from their second album ‘So When You Gonna…‘.

Deer Shed Festival started by the hands of couple Oliver Jones and Kate Webster, who intended to host a family-friendly festival. The first edition was held back in 2010 with 1,000 attendees in a one-day line-up, but now Deer Shed has been increasingly successful, expanding into a three-day festival that accommodates about 10,000 goers.

The festival also wholeheartedly welcomes camping enthusiasts and live-in vehicles, together with other highlights such as comedy shows, DJ sets, live podcasts, and many more. Visit here for more information and ticket purchase.

Legendary UK indie group James are set to knock Adele off the top of the UK album chart with their new album Girl at the End of the World. According to MusicNews as of Monday the album was 2000 units ahead of Adele in the Official Charts Company’s Chart Update.

James’ debut album was released way back in 1984, but the indie band were famed around the Brit Pop era. At their peak, their 1999 album Millionaires reached Number Two.

Their 1990 single ‘Sit Down’ from Gold Mother certainly made their breakthrough – a prevalent anthem still today. From there the 1993 catchy track ‘Laid’ from Laid continued James’ momentum and this momentum prolonged with another memorable 1997 single ‘She’s a Star’ from Whiplash. Fans will have their own favourites from their extensive discography.

After peaking in 1999 James held their final live performance in Manchester in 2001. Frontman Tim Booth then headed for a short solo career. And recently James have been announced as Glastonbury Festival’s opening band on The Other Stage. An outstanding comeback for the Manchester band.

In a blog on James’ website, the band discuss the process of creating their new album:

After 13 albums you know which songs are likely to bear fruit from rough jams, but sometimes a song blindsides you, an outsider becomes a favourite, the favourite falls away. Our process is pretty intuitive. Anyone in James who really has a vision for a song has the opportunity to work on it, on their own or in a smaller group. Songs that were popular by general consent got thrown back into the room at RAK studios to be worked on by the whole band, and ultimately recorded when we felt we had the parts.

James’ UK live tour begins in May:

4/5 – O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire – London
