Jake Bugg has released a new video for his latest single ‘Lost.’

The song is another track to come from his upcoming album ‘Saturday Night, Sunday Morning,’ which is due to be released this August.

The video for ‘Lost’ is directed by High Art, a visual collective. It begins with the Nottingham singer-songwriter laying on the ground at a party in a desert under the nights’ sky, sporting a pair of dark coloured sunglasses, as he starts to sing: “It all starts with me And all of my needs I’ll be what you want Do you want me to be heaven.” Bugg and his fellow party-goers are then propelled into space, where they continue their festivities.

Jake teased the release of the single ‘Lost’ and its video across his social media accounts last week; he wrote on Instagram: “I’ve hidden a few different previews of my new single ‘Lost’ across my socials. Try find them all and see what you can piece together along with the chord sheet I released last week. Make sure you pre-save the track from the link in my bio. Jake” Bugg, speaking on his latest single, said: “The song is inspired by everyone who felt lost and parted from loved ones during the pandemic…the sun’s coming out, summer is on the way and this is the tune for it.”

‘Saturday Night, Sunday Morning’ is the musicians first album in four years A press release featured on his website about the upcoming album writes: “‘Saturday Night, Sunday Morning’ marks a bold and exciting new chapter for Jake Bugg. His 5th studio album is filled with catchy guitar hooks, rhythmic base lines & anthemic choruses giving the record a huge euphoric feel.Cleverly set against more introspective songs with beautifully crafted lyrics, the album plays with a spectrum of emotions that we can all relate to. Jake says it was ‘the most fun he’s ever had making a record.’ The album, released on 20th August, features singles’ Kiss Like the Sun’ and gospel-infused anthem ‘All I Need.”

The Nottingham artist starts the documentary by saying: “Scotland’s always a special place to play; I think it was the first place we did a tour when I was about 17 and ever since that day every time we’ve gone up there to play the audience is amazing, the enthusiasm that they bring and just the passion really.”

The short documentary offers a unique and candid look into life on tour. Discusses where he grew up and his musical influences, he describes his career in music as a ‘childhood dream.’ This inside look will be the first of its kind for the singer-songwriter and is sure to drum up buzz for his much-anticipated album release and UK tour.

Director, James Arden, writing about the documentary, said: “Jake reflected on his time on tour by sending me voice-notes from home, offering a rare and relaxed insight into the reserved singer-songwriter.”

Posting on social media before the documentary’s release, Bugg wrote: “Playing live has always been one of my favourite things to do as a musician — I’m excited to be putting the last year behind us and heading across the country!”

Earlier this month, Jake Bugg announced the release of his album ‘Saturday Night, Sunday Morning,’ due to be released this August ahead of his UK tour in 2022. Using some footage from the ‘Live Across the Lowlands’ documentary to tease the announcement, his upcoming album will be released on the 20th August 2021. He will be performing across 17 dates in the UK and Ireland tour, which will commence in Spring 2022. ‘Saturday Night, Sunday Morning’ is the 26-year-old’s first album release since 2017.
In an interview with Notion last year, the musician said: “The excitement is to have something different out in the world for the fans to listen to. The fear is if they’re gonna like it or not.
Alongside the written announcement, the singer-songwriter posted a candid video of himself walking through a park. Stumbling over his words and accompanied by his song ‘All I need,’ in the background, Bugg announces that he will be heading out on tour across the UK and Ireland next year. Adding that early access tickets are available through pre-ordering his upcoming album. Bugg has already released four songs from the upcoming album: ‘All I Need,’ ‘Kiss Like the Sun,’ ‘Saviours of the City,’ and ‘Rabbit Hole.’ Speaking with Far Out Magazine about his single ‘All I Need,’ he said: “All I need is about a moment of satisfaction or clarity…A feeling that comes when you are completely engaged in what you are doing, however you arrived there.”

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, the Nottingham artist played a series of shows ahead of his new album, including at the Roundhouse; however, the Covid-19 pandemic halted live shows shortly after. Saturday Night, Sunday Morning is the 26-year-olds first album release since ‘Hearts That Strain,’ which was released in 2017. However, he has still been active on the scene, collaborating with Camelphat in 2019 and bringing out electro inspired track ‘Be Someone.’ He also released a live session covering ‘Circles’ in late 2020, putting his own spin on the Post Malone track. The track ‘Circles’ featured on Malone’s Grammy-nominated album ‘Hollywood’s Bleeding.’

Releasing his self-titled debut album ‘Jake Bugg’ in 2012, at the age of 18, it quickly reached the top of the UK album charts, and it went double-platinum. Bugg then released his second album ‘Shangri La‘ just a year later, featuring the hit single ‘Slumville Sunrise.’

Jake Bugg also revealed last November that he is currently in the process of writing music for an upcoming documentary on the life of esteemed Brazilian football player Ronaldinho. Speaking to the Sun newspaper’s Bizarre Column, he added that he has written ‘about an hour and a half’ worth of music for it.

Bugg’s album will be released on the 20th August 2021, and he will be performing across 17 dates in the UK and Ireland tour, which will commence in Spring 2022.

Jake Bugg surprised fans recently when he performed a rare full band live session where he performed a rocked up cover of Post Malone’s ‘Circles.’ The performance, which was uploaded to the singer’s Youtube channel, featured the American rapper’s song sung in the Nottingham born singer’s distinctive voice, with his trademark respect for classic rock & roll, country and blues.

With a three years now having passed since Jake Bugg’s last album release, ‘Hearts That Strain,’ fans will likely be excited to see new content from the man who brought them ‘Lightning Bolt,’ and looking for any potential clues which may point to a new album in the works. While this month’s cover of ‘Circles,’ seems to point in the direction of more band-like material as opposed to Bugg’s usual acoustic style, he has also released several singles through 2019 and 2020 which have kept fans guessing about what a potential new album might sound like.

The cover of a song by Post Malone, someone that wouldn’t necessarily be automatically associated with Jake Bugg, may an insight into the music that the singer is listening to right now. Post Malone himself has been known to perform a number of cover versions of some of the music which has inspired him, some of it not entirely expected, including grunge band Nirvana. However, while it may be true that Bugg has spent some time exploring some other musical forms in the time between albums, a listen to any of his recent singles is enough to realise that his rock and roll roots are still firmly in place.

While it is possible to hear echoes of much of the popular music in the past couple of decades in singles like ‘Rabbit Hole,’ with fellow Northerner’s Arctic Monkey’s most obvious on this track, the foundations of Jake Bugg’s sound is still deeply classic rock and roll, country and blues that inspire him. In fact, the title track from 2016’s ‘On My One,’ so deeply rooted in the blues that you’d more likely expect to hear something of its like somewhere near the Mississippi Delta rather than in Bugg’s homeland of Nottinghamshire.

Despite his evident love of the old roots of rock and roll, Jake Bugg is still young and it is clear that the modern pop sensibility is not lost on him, with his more traditional numbers often blended or seated alongside more modern sounds. 2020’s ‘All I Need,’ is surely his most modern single yet, with lead lines which wouldn’t sound out of place at the top of the charts complementing his distinctive voice and bass lines which move in unison.

There is certainly much of this year’s chart toppers to be heard in ‘All I Need,’ blended with the soulfulness which Bugg exudes without effort, suggesting a next album which may be the most exciting and contemporary sounding yet. While debut album ‘Jake Bugg,’ pleased listeners with its retro style and Johnny Cash inspired sound, all the signs are pointing to something much more modern in his next release, and it looks to be something very exiting indeed.

Jake Bugg has shared his third single of 2020, ‘All I Need’. About chasing the excitement, being in the right place at the right time, it has a euphoric edge to it. ‘All I Need’ follows ‘Rabbit Hole’ and ‘Saviours of the City’, bringing an energy that we haven’t heard from Bugg in his recent output. ‘All I Need’ had its first play on Radio 1 tonight (October 26), by Phil Taggart sitting in for Annie Mac. The video was released an hour later – you can watch it below.

Tune into @BBCR1 tonight from 6:45pm to hear All I Need for the first time. @philytaggart stepping in for @AnnieMac will be giving it a first play. pic.twitter.com/8CjNZphGpV

— Jake Bugg (@JakeBugg) October 26, 2020

‘All I Need’ is sort of anthemic, sort of pop, complete with Bugg’s distinctive voice. It’s about not quite fitting in, and the value of that, and about making yourself stand out in your own way. All I need is evidence of Bugg’s style becoming slicker and more refined, with a video of the same quality to match. His previous two singles this year have both been a little more stereotypically ‘Jake Bugg’, mainly aided by being acoustic. ‘All I Need’ sounds closer to a stadium filler.

The video is all in black and white, a series of high-quality vignettes of basketball and dancing and police shields. Although it doesn’t exactly have a storyline, there’s a sense of triumph and euphoria throughout it, of rising up and overcoming. You can watch it below.

All of these singles are rumoured to build up to a new album, although the specific details of it are currently still a mystery. Earlier this year, ‘Saviours of the City’ was accompanied by a short art film interspersed with psychedelic shots. It juxtaposes the monotony of staying in (all too familiar to us all) with the lurid technicolour of making it into the real word. Unlike ‘All I Need’, which has all the energy of a fight to break out, the visualiser for ‘Saviours of the City’ is gentle, although I would say it is not exactly comforting. Bugg brings an element of grit to many of his creative projects.

The pandemic has somewhat interrupted Bugg’s progress on the album front; before live music ground to a halt, he was playing warm up shows ahead of the announcement of his new album. Either way, it is still expected to arrive this year, following 2017’s Hearts That Strain.

Bugg spoke to NME in 2015 to discuss his upcoming third album saying that the album will be:

“entirely self-written and almost entirely self-produced”.

“There’s songs people can actually dance to. I’ve been listening to [UK station] Smooth Radio. Those songs from the ’70s, there was a warmth about them that you don’t get in pop nowadays.”

Jake Bugg burst onto the UK music scene just a few short years ago in 2012 with the release of his eponymously titled album ‘Jake Bugg’. On that record were tracks like ‘Two Fingers’, ‘Seen It All’ and ‘Lightning Bolt’ all of which helped propel Bugg to stardom. With his debut album eventually being nominated for the 2013 Mercury Prize award.

Bugg followed up with the success of his first album with ‘Shangri-la’ which was released in 2013. ‘Shangri-La’ was also produced by legendary producer Rick Rubin, proving Bugg’s growth and reputation within the music industry.

It has now been three years since his last album, safe to say his fans are eagerly anticipating his third album, especially now that singles are starting to be released, hopefully this indicates that the album is set to be released sooner rather than later.

Listen to Jake Bugg’s hit song from his first album, ‘Seen It All’ below:
