After making her debut last July with ‘Angel of My Dreams’, which focuses on Jade’s love-hate relationship with the industry, the singer likens her new single ‘IT Girl’ as “’Angel of My Dreams’’ c**ty little sister”. The upcoming electro-pop tune is another nod to Jade’s experience in the industry, especially surrounding all the judgement and critiques that have shaped her artistry.

She revealed: “There’s still so much that people don’t know as me, so I was eager to surprise people, poke the bear a bit… I did feel anxious about pissing people off or any sort of backlash, but I have to write about what my experiences are – I’m not going to sugarcoat it. It is, you know, my reality”.

As the ‘Angel of My Dreams’ singer continues to cement her artistry as a soloist, it is evident she plans to establish herself as the next ‘IT girl’ of experimental pop. Thus far, listeners have encountered Jade’s creation of club anthems with ‘Angel of My Dreams’ and ‘Midnight Cowboy’ alongside ‘Fantasy’ a track with the funk and composition which feels reminiscent of Diana Ross and Donna Summer during their high.

Jade’s ongoing openness surrounding her rise to fame and relationship with the industry is considerably admirable. From having to develop such thick skin from a young age, Jade recalls after 14 years in the industry: “I don’t mind piping up or clapping back at people.”

This openness expands to her honesty on her bittersweet experience on the music-reality show The X Factor in 2011, which aired its final episode back in 2018. When delving into her emotions on the experience, she emphasised: “I don’t know anyone that’s come from that show and not had some sort of mental health issue on the back of it.”

She continued: “but also, even now, personally I’m conflicted criticising [it], because it changed my life. I was from a very normal working-class family up north, I had tried sending demos in to labels, I’d gigged all over, I was doing everything I could to make it, and I needed a show like that to give me a chance”.

When discussing her career regrets and what she would be doing differently as a soloist, Jade mentioned not speaking up about her heritage sooner. Prior to moving to London, her quarter Yemeni and quarter Egyptian heritage was never brought up, due to the big Arabic community in South Shields.

She recalls: “When I got put in the band and moved to London, all of a sudden everyone was asking where I was from… No one had really asked me that before, because people in my hometown just knew, so the idea of being racially ambiguous or white-passing was new to me. I thought, maybe it’s better this way, with me entering the industry… All I had seen was negative press about Muslim people, Arab people. I was scared to promote that”.

Now as a soloist, Jade is owning her heritage. In a recent cover of Chase & Status and Stormzy’s ‘BACKBONE’ with the BBC Live Lounge, Jade freestyled the rendition both speaking in Arabic and English about her heritage, as the oud drives the electronic elements from ‘BACKBONE’s’ original.

Jade’s concluded: “I’m so proud of my heritage now… I don’t think it’s ever too late to embrace who you are”.

As Jade continues to embrace her identity and experiences in the industry, ‘IT Girl’s’ arrival on January 10 will further cement the singer’s unique and compelling artistry.

‘Midnight Cowboy’ proves to establish JADE as an artist to watch during the ascendence of her recent solo career, which commenced with JADE’s debut single ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ which was released in July of this year. Following the beginning of Little Mix’s hiatus in 2022, it is evident JADE has carefully planned a clear vision for her solo career which will inevitably establish her as the next pop it-girl. ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ and JADE’s latest track ‘Midnight Cowboy’ sound sonically different to one another, exposing the multi-faceted nature of JADE’s newfound solo career.The release of ‘Midnight Cowboy’ reveals an experimental side to JADE, as the singer attempts to cement her own artistry whilst adapting her skills from her experience in Little Mix. ‘Midnight Cowboy’ was released alongside an official visualiser for the track. Despite ‘Midnight Cowboy’ not being a single, instead a filler track whilst fans wait for the next single, JADE took to X (previously Twitter) to notify fans of her desire to keep them involved during her artistic evolution. The development of her artistry and the result of her hard work is certainly commendable given the release of ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ and ‘Midnight Cowboy’ which allows JADE to determine what genres sonically work for herself and her fans.

The surprise release of ‘Midnight Cowboy’ proves JADE’s desire to continually ‘wow’ fans during every step of her solo career. With the release of ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ and now, ‘Midnight Cowboy’, JADE is a visionary wishing to cement her solo artistry whilst building anticipation for her upcoming debut, which remains unannounced.

Appearing on Amazon Music’s +44 Podcast, Pinnock shared that, “Well, I mean, it’s definitely in the works. Yeah, to be honest, coming together quicker than I think anyone thought, which is good.” Listen to Leigh-Anne’s podcast episode here.

Pinnock released her debut solo single, “Don’t Say Love” back in June. Speaking on the influence behind the track, she said, “‘Don’t Say Love’ is about no longer seeking external validation and regaining my confidence and sense of self in a world where I often felt misunderstood and unheard. This video is a visual representation of me finding my voice. I’m excited to continue to do so with my first love, music.”

On the +44 Podcast, Pinnock discussed making the transition from being part of a successful girl group for over a decade to taking her first steps as a solo artist. She shared, “It’s incredible what Little Mix have done and what we’ve achieved, we’ve absolutely killed it. But now I am on my own and not all of the Little Mix fans are going to come along with me, I have to build a new fan base. Yeah, so I do feel like a new artist to some extent…”

Pinnock also shared, “It’s been a hard sort of transition. I remember, when we did ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ and when streaming started taking over and it really started coming in. I’m so old school, I’m trying to kind of get used to it I guess, but with social media and TikTok, that is such an important part of any campaign. We have to set time aside for that. Whereas before it’d be like oh, forget time, we’ll figure it out.”

Pinnock has also just released her second single, “My Love” featuring Ayra Starr which debuted at #32 on Billboard’s US Afrobeats Songs Chart.

Pinnock’s former band mates, Jade Thirlwall and Perrie Edwards have both shared their support for her solo career, but have made no mention of solo music of their own being forthcoming any time soon.

Asked about Perrie’s solo sound she said “I couldn’t even pinpoint it, but just know it’s going to blow everyone’s minds.” “There’s so many things that they’re interested in, I couldn’t pinpoint it to one thing. The best thing right now is that we’re having fun discovering.” She also alluded to Perrie taking on a different sound to what she was used to when in Little Mix, “Hearing their voices on stuff you wouldn’t typically hear it on is just sending me.” she said, “It’s so, so exciting for me. Can you imagine, as someone who’s used to just one thing with them?”

Kamille has been regularly involved with Little Mix over the years and has built up a strong bond with the girls. She went on to say that Perrie was “worried and insecure” about having her vocals on a solo record without the sounds of her fellow bandmates, but Kamille assured fans that Edwards is “incredible. She doesn’t even know how good she is, and that’s one of the most beautiful things about Perrie; she’s so humble.”

Perrie Edwards shot to fame on the reality tv show, The X Factor. She was put into the girl group Little Mix alongside Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall. The group became one of the most successful acts in the history of the show achieving five number-one singles on the UK Singles Chart along with six studio albums, five of which have been certified Platinum. In 2021 they spent 100 combined weeks inside the top ten of the UK Singles Chart and became the first girl group to achieve such a feat.

Since going solo, the girls have maintained support for each other and promised fans that this isn’t the end for Little Mix, only a break. They plan on supporting each other’s solo endeavours until we get a Little Mix comeback. Perrie said “We’ve all said we will let each other know when we’re going to release so we don’t end up clashing in the charts. We’re rooting for each other, not competing against each other.”

The English producer is a celebrated figure within the music industry and is known for collaborations with many artists. The 34-year-old songwriter, DJ and producer first gained traction for his work on the number one single “I Got U” by Duke Dumont. Jones recently spoke with The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column concerning the exciting collaboration with Thirlwall; “Little Mix’s success is made up of all their individual talents, so I am sure they will all find a way to express themselves musically. I was in the studio with Jade and she is mega-cool and super-talented. She is also such fun to be around. We wrote something really cool so hopefully that can come out too.”

In a separate interview, Thirlwall discussed her plans to launch her solo career and described her songwriting process. The 29-year-old singer likened her technique to poetry and confirmed its beneficial elements. The former girl band member stated that verses in which she has already written serve as inspiration for her new material. Thirlwall went on to say, “The more writing I’m doing and the more I’ve delved into my love of poetry, I’ve noticed that now when I go into sessions I’ll come in with an existing poem that I’ve written and I’ll be like, ‘I want to turn this into a song’. I feel like that really works for me now and has made me a better writer.”

The singer went on to describe how her boyfriend improved her skills as a writer. Thirlwall recently went public with Jordan Stephens, the actor and musician who is best known for his work in Rizzle Kicks. She cited her improvement to Stephens’s influence and learning how to not separate songwriting and poetry. Thirwall discussed this with the Daily Star Newspaper, “When I wrote poetry, I always think it’s something I keep to myself and I never really present it to the world – I’m so conditioned to be a songwriter that writes pop music. But since being with Jordan we have two very different styles of writing. He doesn’t need to rhyme, he just writes how he feels. Since being with him, he’s helped teach me that it doesn’t always have to be an obvious structure when it comes to writing.”

Within the interview, the singer also confirmed that she feels “freedom” concerning her art and stated, “I’ve definitely felt more of a freedom with the writing than I did before. I’m more confident in myself as well. One thing I’ve learned from therapy is just because you wake and have a bad morning doesn’t mean it has to be a bad day, there’s still time to turn it around.”

The group are set to begin their “Confetti” UK Tour in April of 2022. The tour will presumably be a ‘greatest hits tour, following the release of their greatest hits album Between Us November. The tour will begin in Belfast on April 9^th 2022, and take them all through the UK to finish with 3 nights at London’s O2 Arena on 12^th, 13^th, and 14^th May. See full ticket information here.

After the tour concludes, the group say fans should not worry. “We are not splitting up – Little Mix are here to stay. We have plans for more music, tours and performances in the future. We’ve made so many incredible memories with you all, and we can’t wait to make so many more.”

 Kirsty Hillitt of BBC’s Newsbeat had this to say about the group’s hiatus, “I’m so, so gutted really. I love their music and I’m gutted we won’t be hearing it for a while, But coming from a personal level, I can completely understand the girls needing to recharge, they’ve grown so much in the last 10 years. They’ve got to have a dabble at other things.”

Leigh-Anne Pinnock is a multi-platinum English singer and songwriter who now makes up one-third of the band Little Mix following the departure of singer Jesy Nelson, due to her mental health on December 14th 2020. The band’s new lineup consists of Pinnock, as well as singer’s Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall.

The group’s path to fame began when they won the X-Factor series in 2011. The band have released six studio albums to date and released their 10th Anniversary album Between Us on November 12th. The last single Nelson featured on was the group’s number 1 hit single“Sweet Melody” and her last album with the group was Confetti. Pinnock, Edwards and Thirlwall’s first single release as a trio was their single “Confetti” and their postponed Confetti Tour is due to kick off in April. Pinnock and Edward’s became first-time mother’s recently and whilst Edwards has released images and details of her baby son’s name, Pinnock released an image of her twin’s feet following their birth and has made a decision, to keep further details of her twins private at this time.

Pinnock’s documentary, Race, Pop and Power aired in May and she won an Ethnicity Award for her documentary this month. The singer is set to make her acting debut with actor Aml Ameen in the Warner Brothers Christmas film Boxing Day, which is set for release on December 3rd. Pinnock is also set to release an original song for the film.

Munyaradzi Chawawa is a British-Zimbabwean comedian and musician, who is known professionally as Munya Chawawa. Chawawa is known for his parody news sketches and credits John Oliver, Andy Zaltzman and Sacha Cohen Baron as his comedic influences. The comedian released his single “Piers Morgan” in November 2020 and his second single “Pain Au Chocolat” in August.

The Mobo Awards began in 1996 and will see both Pinnock and Chawawa, co-hosting this year’s Mobo Awards from Coventry on December 5th. The event will also be streamed live via YouTube on December 5th at 8 pm local time. The BBC will air an additional programme entitled 2021 Mobo Awards Access All Areas. 1Xtra’s DJ Target has been announced as the host and the event will be aired on BBC One on December 8th at 10.35 pm local time. Viewers will be able to enjoy exclusive backstage content, artists interviews and performances.

CBE, Founder and CEO of MOBO Group, Kanya King, said of this years Mobo Awards in light of the Covid 19 Pandemic, “The past 20 months have been extremely challenging for artists everywhere but as always we are seeing creatives rise up and adapt, even in a global pandemic”

As well as co-hosting the 2021 Mobo Awards, Chawawa has been nominated for, the Best Media Personality Award for the second time. The comedian will be joining  British rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor, Dave who is leading with the most award nominations for Best Album, Best Song and Video of the year, as well as Best Male Act and Best Hip-Hop Act.

Other nominations also include rapper, Central Cee who has been nominated for four awards alongside rap stars Ghetts and Little Simz, soul star Cleo Sol, and Mercury Prize-winner Arlo Parks, who have been nominated for three awards each, There are plenty of other artists who will also be battling it out for a Mobo Award on the night.

Pinnock said of her upcoming co-hosting role “Make sure you tune in, December 5th, 8pm, live! Don’t miss it guys, it’s gonna be amazing” Chawawa also said “I’ve been told we’ve got big performances, magical moments [and] it’s just gonna be a whole lot of fun” Chawawa expressed further excitement of his upcoming co-hosting opportunity with Pinnock in his tweet below. Pinnock and Chawawa look set for a musical treat when co-hosting this year’s Mobo Awards.

The single announcement follows Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards’s double announcement last week of the birth of their babies. Pinnock surprise announcement revealed that she had given birth to twins. There have not yet been any announcements with regard to the gender/s of Pinnock and Edward’s new arrivals. Pinnock and Edwards make up the band’s lineup with bandmate Jade Thirlwall.

The band rose to fame after their X Factor win on December 11th 2011 with then bandmate Jesy Nelson. Nelson left the band on December 14th 2020 sighting that she struggled with her mental health whilst in the band. The trio expressed their support, following Nelson’s departure who is now set to release solo material and vowed to continue the band as a trio.

The band were put together whilst on the show and were known as Rhythmix before changing their name due to a children’s music charity with the same name. Following their eighth season win as the first and only female band to win the show, they enjoyed success with the release of their debut album DNA. The debut single “Cannonball” released on December 11th 2011 provided the band with their first UK number 1 single.

The band scored a further four UK number 1 singles with “Wings” (2012), “Black Magic” (2015), “Shout Out to My Ex” (2016) and “Sweet Melody” (2021). The band are also known for hit singles “Move” (2013), “Little Me” (2013) “Salute” (2014) “Touch” (2016), “Power” (2017), “Women Like Me” (2018) and “Holiday” (2021). The band have released six studio albums with their sixth album “Confetti” peaking at number 2 on the UK Official Albums Chart and their last album to feature Nelson.

Pinnock and Thirlwall wrote the new single enlisting the support of MNEK and singer-songwriters Lauren Aquilina and Sakima. Thirlwall speaking of the co-writing team said “MNEK is family to us, so it’s always a joy to write with him, and Lauren and Sakima joining the mix proved to be very welcome!” The band also recently released news of their 10th Anniversary Album Between Us set for release on November 12th. Sighting the band’s 10-year reign Edwards stated “We can’t believe it has been 10 years. Time has flown, and when you look back we have done so much that we’re super proud of”

The trio has stated that the single is the first of five new singles from their new album with another four singles yet to be announced. The band have rescheduled their Confetti Tour for 2022 due to the Covid 19 Pandemic.

Through the announcement of the Singles Chart, the ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ singers record-breaking achievement was revealed. The group have made UK chart records by having releases stay within the top 10 longer than any other girl group. The group’s single ‘Heartbreak Anthem’ which was released on 20th May 2021 remained within the top 10 this week when the song charted at number 7, the single’s position sees it chart within the top 10 for 100 weeks. The single saw the group collaborate with Swedish DJ duo, Galantis and French DJ and producer David Guetta and has been certified silver by the BPI.

Bandmember, Leigh- Anne Pinnock has spoken out in celebration of this record and thanks to the group’s fans for their support. “Wow! It’s amazing, and we wouldn’t have done this without you guys. You never fail to blow us away – you’re just incredible and we wouldn’t be here without you. Thank you.”

Despite the departure of their fourth member Jesy Nelson, this year has been a fruitful experience for Little Mix. The group have been breaking records and collecting accolades, their most recent award was at this year’s Brit awards for their 2021 studio album, ‘Confetti’. The band were the first girl group to win the Best British Group award, within their acceptance speech the group dedicated the award to ex-member Jesy Nelson and their creative and production teams, “Thank you to everyone who’s supported us over the last 10 years. Thank you to our incredible team, and everyone who worked with us on Confetti.” The trio, Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, also thanked the efforts of the key workers within the current pandemic. “And of course, to the key workers who continue to work for the health of the nation”

The trio also addressed issues in which were important to them, “It’s not easy being a female in the UK pop industry. We’ve seen the white male dominance, misogyny, sexism, and lack of diversity. We’re proud of how we’ve stuck together, stood our ground, surrounded ourselves with strong women, and are now using our voices more than ever.” The hitmakers then continued to dedicate the award to the girl groups who came before them. “The fact that a girl band has never won this award really does speak volumes. So this award isn’t just for us, it’s for Spice Girls, Sugababes, All Saints, Girls Aloud, all of the incredible, incredible female bands … this one’s for you. So thank you BRITs, and we hope you have an amazing night.”

Previous girl bands who have come close to Little Mix’s achievement include Girls Aloud, the fivesome once spent 61 weeks within the charts. The group was made popular by the historic talent show ‘Popstars: The Rivals’ in 2002 and also spent a total of 8 weeks in the number one position. The next record is 59 weeks within the top 10, set by Motown icons The Supremes. The ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’ singers are known to be one of America’s most successful girl groups and rivalled the Beatles popularity within the 1960s. The Sugababes take the bronze position with a total of 57 weeks within the top 10, despite the group’s many line-ups changes the ‘Overload’ singers have had four albums certified platinum and have won a Brit Award for Best British Dance Act in 2003. Lastly one of music’s most iconic girl groups, Spice Girls, take fourth place with 50 weeks within the charts. Responsible for popularizing the phrase ‘Girl Power’, Spice Girls have remained a favourite of any music fan and sparked Britain’s love for girl groups in the 1990s.

In other news, the group’s waxwork figures at Madame Tussauds have now been unveiled to the public. The band’s waxworks include ex-member Nelson and depict the group in the outfits and aesthetics featured in their music video for the 2019 single ‘Bounce Back’. The work on the group’s entry started in early 2020, which may account for the look chosen and inclusion of Nelson. Fans will be able to see the real thing live when the trio hit the road next year for their UK tour.

In celebration of the group’s decade long career, London’s Madame Tussauds has decided to welcome the band to their ranks of waxworks. The ‘Black Magic’ singers have been involved throughout the whole process and have invested their time into working with the team of artists to ensure that their likeness is captured. This process has involved requirements such as sittings, where the team took accurate measurements of the group. The band were also involved in picking the perfect aesthetics, this entails picking out styling details and homing the specific elements for the final looks. The group and the team at Madame Tussauds have been working hard on the final product since the beginning of last year, ready for the public later this Summer.

Although the attraction has not revealed further details concerning the announcement, they promise for the unveiling to be pleasing to fans. The figurines are to reflect one of the group’s most famous music videos, the waxworks will immortalise the band’s look and aesthetic at the video’s time. The group’s entry into the attraction will also include all four original members, including Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and ex-member Jessy Nelson. Original member Nelson left the group in December 2020, citing her mental health as the reason for her departure.

Thirwall has spoken on the exciting news of the group’s induction into the famed London attraction. “It’s finally happened, Little Mix is at Madame Tussauds London. We’re absolutely buzzing and it’s the best 10 year anniversary present that we could share with our fans.”

Edwards added to the statement, celebrating the complex work completed by the attraction’s team. “The Madame Tussauds London artists are ridiculously talented. Their work is so intricate. They took pictures and notes of every little detail of us – even down to the shape of my nails!” Pinnock also commented on the band’s excitement. “We can’t wait for our fans to see the figures! We hope they love them as much as we do!”

Madame Tussaud’s general manager Tim Waters also released the following statement concerning the announcement, “Little Mix are without a doubt the biggest girl band on the planet. They’ve had a meteoric rise over the last 10 years and we couldn’t think of a better way to mark this milestone anniversary than by giving the fans what they want – the first-ever Little Mix figures! Our artists have loved working with the band on their likenesses and we can’t wait to welcome Mixers through our doors once the figures have been unveiled this summer.”

The ’DNA’ singers rose to fame in 2011 on the UK talent show, The X factor, where the quartet became the first band to win the show. They were then signed by music mogul Simon Cowell to his record label Syco Music after they were declared winners with their song ‘Cannonball’, a cover of the 2003 Damien Rice single. The group then skyrocketed to success and achieved a series of chart successes and accolades. Their most recent studio album, ‘Confetti’ saw the band perform and release material as a trio, the album sired the hit single ‘Sweet Melody’ which became their fifth number-one single.

The British girl group will join the ranks of many other celebrated artists who have been immortalised in wax including Amy Winehouse, Adele as well as fellow girl group singer Cheryl Cole. More details concerning the waxwork’s new figures can be found on the group’s social media accounts.
