Taking a mainstream pop track by two chart-topping pop artists, Jack Garratt completely rearranged ‘Rain On Me’ to fit his unique style. Using layered vocals, a synth, and samples, this is a far more innovative electro-pop experience. Lasting a whole five minutes, the artist appears captivated by the sounds, dancing and shouting throughout.

When originally released by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, the song shot straight to number 1 on the UK Singles Charts, going on to feature on Gaga’s album ‘Chromatica’. With its belting vocals and ’80s inspiration, the song is a beacon of hope for many fans, with the message that even though times are tough, everything is temporary.

This resonates with Garratt, who has struggled with his mental health for years. He shared his feelings on social media, saying, “This was such a fun and difficult cover to do. I know I create way too much work for myself, but the Live Lounge means so much to me. I would never want to turn up with a guitar and just play somebody else’s song, as if that’s what makes a cover a cover. There’s always more story to tell.”

The discussion about mental health is so important in the music industry, so by talking about his own mental health, Garratt has made a closer connection to his fans and helped many.

Not only did the singer take on this song, but also a piano version of his original release, ‘Better’, gaining 9,000 views. This song is from his most recent album, ‘Love, Death & Dancing’, out earlier this month.

Through this time, he performed at festivals all over the UK and parts of Europe, as well as touring with Mumford and Sons in 2015. He is now signed to Island Records.

The English singer- songwriter had spent just over four years making the album and his fans have been waiting with baited breath ever since the release of ‘Phase’ (his debut album). Back in 2016 Garratt won BBC Music Introducing Artist of the Year Award, Brit Award for Critics Choice, the BBC Sound of 2016 and was nominated for an MTV UK award, I think it;s safe to say he made himself known. From first reactions it seems the album stands up to the first.

The album is a continuation of the electronica/trip hop/indie pop sound that he managed to blend perfectly together on his debut. If you are listening on streaming services, I am sure you have noticed the structure of the album is split into four groups of three; this is to reflect the stages of his life before the album was released. This period of his life was very tough for him which could be a reason as to why he found it so hard to record the music.

Today he has announced that he will be conducting a QnA on his instagram tonight at 6pm so any of his fans can ask him about the new album and the making of it. They could also ask for him to try and promise not to wait another four years before gracing us with his genre hopping music again. 

Second albums are difficult, as I mentioned before, but if the artist has obvious talent it should be made that little bit easier. Luckily for us, Jack Garratt is one of those artists. Let’s hope we do not have to wait that long for another eh?

The singer-songwriter has always suffered from anxiety, as so many in the industry do, and while his career had been blowing up, his mental health had slipping on a downward spiral. Garratt’s debut album ‘Phase’ won him the Brit award for Critics’ Choice in 2016, gaining him a lot of attention and praise. Despite the success, the spotlight and constant comparisons to other artists knocked his confidence hugely.

Now, Jack Garratt has made his way back to music, rekindling his love and passion, and being totally honest while he does it. His EP is the first of four volumes, which will end up being compiled into a 12 track album, due to be released on 29th May under Island Records. As described by Garratt himself, the music is for anyone “who likes dancing but doesn’t necessarily want to go out on a Saturday”. Along with the album, a film is in the works to bring the songs to life through the visual – to show the cycle of his mental health.

The lead song, ‘Time’ aired on Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show as the Hottest Record in the World, and has a video on YouTube which came out on the same day as the EP – this is the first video from the film. In just two days the video, which shows Garratt dancing alone in rooms filled with colourful lights, has reached over 40,000 views. The end of the visual only includes white lights, perhaps symbolising Garratt’s return to the stage and the spotlight.

As if fans weren’t already overjoyed with all the announcements and releases, the artist will also head out on tour this month, with shows in the UK and Europe. Though he has sold out seven shows so far, Garratt has added two new dates in London, and making five dates available and totalling twelve shows.

Back in 2015, the multi-instrumentalist won Critics’ Choice Award from BRIT Awards, and one year after Garratt dropped his debut album Phase. The album shot to number 3 on the official chart, with “Worry” as a smash hit and singles like “The Love You’re Given“, “Weathered“, and “Surprise Yourself“. Garratt also garnered the accolades from BBC with Introducing Artist of the Year in 2015 and BBC Sound of 2016.

After the release of Phase, the “Breathe Life” singer decided to take hiatus from the spotlight. His last appearance was at Coachella in 2017, and he recently returned to do an intimate show in London back in November 2019. During his break from the music scene, Garatt has been spending time writing and making new music, as the singer wrote a lengthy note on his Instagram post. See the post below.

Jack Garratt’s debut album ‘Phase’ was released last month in February; debuting in at number three on the UK album charts. ‘Phase’ has since been regarded highly from most critics alike. Another tell tall sign of Garratt’s ever growing reputation within the UK music scene.

The timing of the Tour announcement is quite clever also, as Garratt has his debut album coming out next month. The eagerly anticipated album ‘Phase’ is set to contain current hit singles such as ‘The Love You’re Given’ and ‘Worry’.

This European tour is a sign of a growing reputation in not just British music but rather European music as well; however this was all inevitable, having recently won both the ‘BBC Sound Of’ award and the Brits Critics Choice Award recently. Not only that but Garratt is also nominated for MTV’s ‘Brand New 2016′ shortlist. Stardom seemingly awaits Jack Garratt!

It was announced that Jack Garratt has won the BBC Sound of 2016, a highly prestigious award wherein a panel of experts judge who they deem to be the best new representative of music for the year. We previously did an article on the nominees; see here.

As you can see from the previous article Jack has done tremendously well to beat other artists such as Frances, Rat Boy, Izzy Bizu and many more.

As mentioned in the previous article, past winners of the BBC Sound Of award have nearly always gone on to be remarkably successful, the likes of Florence + The Machine, Ellie Goulding, Sam Smith and James Bay are all past winners.

Jack Garratt had this to say on the matter:

“Winning the BBC Music Sound of 2016 poll has left me feeling pretty stunned at the end of one of the most emotionally and physically intense years of my life. I cannot thank the BBC enough for their continued support, and everyone who voted for me. Every other name on the list is unbelievably talented, and I hope this year will be a great one for all of us,”

However it has now been announced that 24 year old Jack Garratt has won the award, congratulations Jack!

As mentioned in the previous article, the Brits Critics Choice Award is so prestigious as it almost guarantees wide spread mainstream success for at least a few years. One only has to look at the previous winners (James Bay, Adele) to see that winning this award means a considerable deal regarding success in the music industry.

Garratt had this to say on his win:

“I am so humbled to have received this year’s Brits critics’ choice award… To have been given this award is truly mind-blowing, considering I am one name in a hugely exciting time for music in this country. Thank you to everyone who voted, it means so much to me.”

This victory does not diminish the successes of the other two artists however, there can be little doubt that Izzy Bizu and Frances will go far in the music world, both are still very young and picking up momentum at the right point in their careers.
