Isle Of Wight’s famous indie band Wet Leg recently sat down for an interview with Matt Wilkinson on Apple Music 1 to talk about their new album ‘Moisturizer’. During their chat, the band gave insights into their creative process as well as what fans should expect of their new project. Lead singer Rhian Teasdale and guitarist/keyboardist Joshua Mobaraki both reflected on the unexpected yet quick success of their debut album and how they played over 300 gigs following said success.

Rhian spoke about the overwhelming success, stating: “Everything is just happening and you’re just taking it day by day. You don’t really have that much time for reflection. When we stopped touring we weren’t like, ‘Okay, let’s take a minute about all those gigs that we played.’ We were like, ‘Okay, what are we going to play when we go on tour again? Let’s make some tunes.'”

Joshua added to her statement and dived in more details on the writing process for ‘Moisturizer’ which he said took place in a kid’s playroom in Southwold. “We did two weeks on, two weeks off, two weeks on. After that, we had too many songs.” The pair talked about how the project initially had 16 to 17 tracks.

The pair also spoke about their experience touring and supporting with Harry Styles and the fear that came with it, unaware of how his fanbase would receive their sound but being happily surprised at how open and nice the fans were to the band. They mentioned how they observed an openness of mind and a shift in music consumption in recent years, where listeners are welcoming more diverse genres without adhering to rigid subculture affiliations.

The album, which came out on July 11, was appraised and happily received by fans of the band, loving this new sound that truly belongs to Wet Leg, loyal to their alternative music with heavy guitar riffs. Both members admitted that they had a strong desire to get back on the road to tour as they absolutely love to perform live. Rhian also revealed that ‘Moisturizer’ features love songs, a departure from her earlier songwriting, admitting she was “really, really hesitant” to tackle the theme.

The full interview with Wet Leg is available on demand with an Apple Music subscription via The Matt Wilkinson Show on Apple Music 1. The band’s new album is available to listen on all platforms.

Isle Of Wight pop punk singer Lauran Hibberd has released an emotional new single, “I Suck At Grieving.” The song sees the singer exploring the weighty and moving theme of her father’s passing.

i suck at grieving is out and it feels WEIRD WEIRD weird i hope that anyone that needs it, finds comfort in the fact that it’s impossible to NOT suck at grieving: https://t.co/wfmV3hROK6 pic.twitter.com/p0AtAdqRLV

— Lauran Hibberd (@lauranhibberd) September 21, 2023

The song marks the first new music to come from the power pop artist since the release of her last single “Honda Civic” and her debut album Garageband Superstar. The singer stated that the song is for people who do not know how to interpret their emotions or who are reluctant to begin the grieving process.

Hibberd’s father sadly passed away in 2022 and she said of the song, “I guess eventually you run out of stuff to laugh about, and have to look life or in this case death straight in the eye. I lost my dad last year, and I changed in an instant but forever.”

The singer added, “I found everyone’s advice on grief painful and inappropriate, and I couldn’t work out why I couldn’t grieve like the internet told me to. This track feels like an extension of me, and I know it’s not my usual tricks but it feels more me than anything I’ve ever made before. This is a song for people who don’t want to grieve, for people who don’t know where to start, and for people who don’t know how it ends.”

It has been a steady rise for the young pop singer, who certainly seems like she has all of the key ingredients to cement her place as a pop icon in years to come. Hibberd began playing guitar at the age of 14 and started writing her own songs shortly thereafter. After releasing a string of singles and a few EPs, Hibberd finally dropped her debut album Garageband Superstar last year to mostly favourable reviews.

Known for her witty lyrics, slacker punk attitude and sonic signature, Hibberd has never been one to shy away from the more heavy subject matter, although the singer maintains her light-hearted positivity throughout. With “I Suck At Grieving,” Hibberd is venturing into what is perhaps uncharted waters for the singer, as she attempts to where her emotions on her sleeve. The song will no doubt touch upon a tender chord for her growing fanbase around the world.

Hibberd recently wrapped up a UK tour in support of US alternative rock band, All Time Low and is about to rejoin the band for their North American and Australian tours with Payday Parade and Gym Class Heroes.

UK based punk band Grade 2 have announced a European run of headlining shows this summer in support of their latest self-titled album release. This will be in addition to summer dates with some legendary punk acts.

Hailing from the Isle of Wight, Grade 2 have been garnering bigger and better shows as they continue to provide support for major acts as well as taking their brand of old school inspired punk across both sides of the Atlantic. The band are currently in the middle of their headlining tour of the west coast of the United States and are showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon as their tour prospects are set to keep them busy in front of ever growing crowds this summer.

Once the trio return from the United States, they are set to hit Europe with American ska band The Interrupters for a show in Amsterdam, before heading back to the UK in what could possibly be there biggest show of their careers thus far, as they join American punk legends Rancid at the Ovo Arena, Wembley on the 20th of June. Grade 2 will also be joining Rancid for select dates in Europe. If that doesn’t do for hitting unprecedented heights for the young punk rockers, they will also be joining NOFX on one date during their farewell tour in Austria in June.

Grade 2 have made major waves on the music scene in recent years with their brand of punk rock appealing to fans who have been supporters of the genre for decades as well as new fans alike. Last summer, the band toured throughout the UK with punk stalwarts Social Distortion, which gave them exposure to a wider audience that embraced their bold and energetic live shows. Other famous acts soon took notice as the likes of Rancid and NOFX will give the band even further exposure to crowds hungry for new and raw punk to get behind.

Releasing their third studio album in February on Tim Armstrong of Rancid and Brett Gurewitz’ record label Hellcat, the band from the small isle celebrated their first ever chart success, placing on the official indie charts in March. With most young bands embracing the poppier elements of the genre, Grade 2 have proven that the grittier, punchier old school sound still has plenty of mileage left and the band have been gathering plenty of praise with each new song and each new show.

Grade 2 have been busy but the hard work looks set to pay off, as the band begin a summer tour cycle that has the potential to see them become household names- as one generation of punk hands off to the next.

Grade 2 will headline their own European dates in Scandinavia and Germany this June.

The Isle of Wight Festival has announced the 2021 line up. Taking into consideration UK Government’s roadmap on easing COVID restrictions, the event has postponed its happening from June until mid-September 2021 and the capacity will be reduced to 50,000 people for this year. However, the event seems ready to host international stars: the confirmed headliners are Liam Gallagher for Friday, Snow Patrol and David Guetta for Saturday, whereas Duran Duran will close the festival on Sunday 19th.

There will be many surprises for this year’s Isle of Wight. Indeed, the festival acquired by Live Nation in 2017 will feature the performances of veteran performer Tom Jones, The Script, Example and James Arthur, amongst more than 50 other performers. The organisers reassure that the reduced capacity event will still happen at its original venue – allowing social distancing – and that there will be more handwashing facilities, as part of the robust COVID measures the team is taking into consideration.

John Giddings, founder of Solo Agency and promoter of the event, stated: ‘Our audience always has an incredible time at the festival and we’re thrilled with the line-up on offer for them. It’s a fantastic array of artists; from icons to emerging talent and not forgetting everything still to come from additional stages across the festival. Over the coming months we’ll be watching and learning from the events taking place before us and, of course, liaising with all the relevant authorities to make sure everyone – audience, artists, staff, the community – is kept safe. See you in September!’

Tickets for the event are on sale now on the Isle of Wight Festival website. This gathering is one of the UK summer festivals which planned to go ahead this summer. As previously mentioned, the running of these events will entirely depend on the success of the COVID vaccination campaign, COVID variants and the infection rate, which has to be low enough to ensure a smooth running of the events.

Jess Glynne has left the Isle of Wight promoters enraged after it emerged she pulled out of a scheduled performance at the last minute. Since then the festival chiefs have issued a permanent ban against the singer, refusing to book Jess for future shows.

In an Instagram post, Jess explained the no show was down to exhaustion and anxiety, but later claims polarised her explanation, suggesting that she had been partying with the Spice Girls.

Jess had been supporting The Spice Girls on the Saturday night as a part of their comeback tour’s final show. Amongst those attending the backstage event were Adele, Niall Horan, formerly of One Direction and ‘Changes’ singer, Will Young.

The timeline of the night has Jess leaving Wembley at 5am on Sunday, where the entourage continued on to a hotel, where they remained until around 7am. She was due to travel for the Isle of Wight at 9am by car, and begin her set at 6.30pm, where her band and stage had been set for her. Subsequently, ten minutes later, promoter John Giddings took to the stage to call off her set.

Those organising the festival tweeted to explain:

From Jess Glynne @JessGlynne pic.twitter.com/PQi6wcS998

— Isle of Wight Fest (@IsleOfWightFest) June 16, 2019

John Giddings berated the ‘I’ll Be There’ star, saying, “She will never be booked to play the Isle of Wight again.”

He further adds, “It shows no regards for people that bought a ticket. It’s so sad that an artist would do that to their fans. She’s let them down.”

This year, Jess was nominated for Best British Single with her hit, “I’ll Be There’, and has currently sold over 13 million records, and collaborated with artists such as Clean Bandit, Rudimental and Route 94.

In response to the set’s cancellation, Jess messaged her fans on Instagram, “I am a human being and I can’t help that my body sometimes gives up on me. I am so so gutted, sorry and upset that I couldn’t perform yesterday. I came all the way I got ready and was about to head to stage but I just couldn’t do it. I was incredibly weak and full of anxiety.”

Jess had to pull out of the Isle of Wight Festival in 2015 due to illness, replaced late on by Ella Eyre.
