Michaelson took to social media to announce the brief tour, saying: “London and Germany, I’m coming back this year to bring some Christmas cheer! I LOVE visiting Europe during the Christmas season and I hope to see you at these shows! Michaelson’s career commenced in 2005, when she self-released her debut studio album Slow the Rain, whilst living in Staten Island in New York, and busking in lower Manhattan. In 2006, she once again went down the DIY route and independently released her second album Girls and Boys, which was streamed on Myspace, and garnered the attention of several record companies. The album peaked at #63 on the Billboard charts, and was received positively by critics and Michaelson’s newfound audience. The popularity of the album also resulted in ‘The Way I am” from the album appearing in a 2007 Old Navy ad.

Michaelson has released six full-length albums and one compilation album since Girls and Boys, clearly not slowing her output as the years have worn on. Her last album was 2019’s Stranger Songs, a twelve-track record consisting of tunes inspired by the hit Netflix show Stranger Things. As per the title, the sound of the album is that of retro-tinged synth-pop, frequently featuring wide-open reverberation, bold, pulsing synths and frequent implementation of rock guitar. Michaelson’s EU and UK appearances are slated as a “Christmas Tour”. For any US fans hoping to catch her, she will also be making December appearances at New York City’s Carnegie Hall on December 16^th and 17^th for The New York Pops: Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree and Winter Song: A Holiday Evening with Ingrid Michaelson.
