Rising Irish alternative grunge band, Bleech 9:3 are currently taking the world by storm one rowdy show at a time. The four-piece are gaining traction through their electronic live shows, brightly coloured hair, and addictive guitar riffs. With tracks catalysed by a sense of longing and grit, it is evident the group are here to stick around. Fresh off the surge of word of mouth hype and catchy new track releases the bands latest tour announcement signifies a major stepping stone in their world domination.

The group currently only have four songs released on Spotify; despite this they have accumulated a dedicated cult following way before their first official EP release. Further solidifying their role in the indie music scene, they recently completed an extensive tour run supporting the alternative rock band Keo.

Relocating to London, the group, formed in 2024 and consists of Barry ‘Baz’ Quinlan, Sam Duffy, James Quinlan and Luke O’Neil. The Dublin born fronting duo, Duffy, and Quinlan formed an unlikely bond in an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, redirecting their struggles into intoxicating tracks., Their restless 90s-infused debut single ‘Ceiling’ holds host to a grave emotional intensity, proving their capability not only as musicians but incredible songwriters too.

Within the whirlwind of their rapid rise, the boys have been progressively releasing new tracks that nestle within their first official self titled EP set to release on May 15. The track-list currently consists of ‘Jacky,’ ‘Underrated,’ ‘Cannonball,’ ‘No Surprise,’ and the lead single, ‘Ceiling.’ The group announced the first pressing release of their debut EP however drastically underestimated the desire for their music. Selling out rapidly, the group jumped to their social media sharing that they are thankfully working on a new pressing.

Amidst this exciting endeavour the group have announced a UK and Ireland tour spanning from November through to December of 2026.This tour leans into the bands grassroots appeal, they tend to favour smaller venues that have been a crucial part in their own rise.

The band’s first world tour begins in the US on June 16 in Dallas, Texas. The Rotherham natives will go on to play major US cities, New York, Boston and Los Angeles. Then, in October they will arrive back in the UK. Gigs on the UK leg include the band’s largest shows yet: London’s Alexandra Palace, Cardiff’s Utilita Arena, and Manchester’s Co-op Live.

After the landmark UK run, the Reytons will continue on to Australia, Japan and New Zealand before the end of the year. Then in 2027, they will cap-off their first world tour with the European leg.

The show at the Co-op Live is The Reytons’ biggest gig on the tour. In 2024, The Reytons played to 20,000 on a sold-out night at Clifton Park in Sheffield. The band called it “the biggest night in Reytons history.” Now, they set to top that with the 23,500 capacity Co-op Live show this October. Fans are more than up to the task: one wrote under the tour announcement on X, “we did 20k at Clifton park so let’s do the coop.”

The grassroots sentiment is one that comes directly from the band, who have achieved great popularity on the scene without ever having been backed by a label. Frontman Jonny Yerrell told NME, “we’re proud that we’ve done it independently, and it’s just a reminder that you can do it. Because we’ve had so many doors shut in our face over the years that we’ve had to […] make things happen our own way.” The band maintains a very powerful community mindset, calling their fans “Reytons” (from the Instagram World Tour announcement: “All Reytons, let’s do it!”). This is something Yerrell said is meant to empower people, watching the band rise completely independent from any financial backing.

Their next release, ‘A Love Letter to a Broken Town’ will drop July 24, 2026. The band’s fourth album will see them hold on to their roots. Yerrell says, “a lot of bands and artists like to change direction later in their careers, but that’s just not us. We absolutely love the style of music we make, the social commentary aspects and the people who turn up to jump around with us. Why would we change? Expect more, just bigger and better with a few surprises on the side!”

‘everyone for ten minutes’ is due to release on 22 May. The band recently released the third single from the album, ‘the van’ which looks retrospectively at the band’s beginnings in New Jersey. It joins previously released singles, ‘you and forever’ and ‘dirty wedding dress.’

On 3 April, Bleachers stopped by the BBC Radio 2 studios to premiere the ‘the van,’ and record a cover for Jo Whiley. Antonoff cut a low-key folk-inspired rendition of Hayley Williams’ ‘Love Me Different.’ He wrote about the experience in a message attached to the tour announcement, “something special is happening with UK / EU Bleachers. I feel that outside of America, the understanding of American music is crystal clear. The elements we’re playing with, all inherently political, make perfect sense without the emotions and fear of what part we play in it.”

That crystal clear understanding of American music shows as the band is about embark on their biggest European headline tour to date. It will kick off in Milan on 5 November, hitting Germany, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium and France before landing in the UK.

Bleachers will appear in several cities across the UK and Ireland including Bristol, Glasgow, Leeds, Birmingham, Dublin and Manchester. They will cap off the tour with a show at London’s Eventim Apollo on 3 December.

Bleachers has not been back to the UK since the 2024 Reading and Leeds festivals, where they played in support of the self-titled fourth studio album. The critically acclaimed album, ‘Bleachers,’ received a 9/10 from Clash Magazine and 4/5 stars from NME. NME called the album “the collective’s most quintessentially “them” release yet.” Saying that, “it evolves into new territory, of course, but is equally deeply connected to past releases – a by-product of spending a decade honing their dynamic and sound.”

Their latest music also sees Antonoff coalescing lessons learned over the bands’ career. Clash Magazine wrote in review that ‘you and forever’ displays “an almost stand-up comedic style of songwriting which Antonoff has tapped into for a while […] but now appears to be embracing entirely in his songwriting.”

Antonoff writes of a childlike creativity in the Instagram-posted message to fans, “I heard music and then I tired to play it. And those early days – 11 or so years old, sitting at the piano – I went somewhere very far away.” Antonoff promises, “that’s where I am right now and that’s where I’ll be touring from.”

Indie star and recent pop sensation, Mitski, releases her eighth studio album, ‘Nothing’s About to Happen to Me,’ that critics are calling as feverish as it is contemplative.

The music video for the album’s lead single, ‘Where’s My Phone?’ illustrates the narrative of the album: an aloof woman tends to a disheveled home while various motley strangers force their way inside. Directed by Noel Paul, the video hits on the larger themes of the album: isolation, interpersonal fragility and a grave, impending doom.

The music video for ‘If I Leave’ depicts the singer and her band in another dilapidated house as they stare vacantly away from the camera, haunting the halls. The video, directed by Jared Hogan and released with the album, uses imagery classically aligned with horror films: a crack of lightning, the menacing silhouette of a child, rocking chairs moving on their own and peeling wallpaper. Watch the ‘If I Leave’ video below.

‘Nothing is About to Happen to Me’ took literary inspiration from Shirley Jackson’s We Have Always Lived in the Castle and The Haunting of Hill House, both stories of disturbances and perversions of domesticity. NME theorizes the album’s ‘[yearn] for disconnection’ is a ‘reckoning with the reality of her raised profile.’ This references the singer’s explosion into the spotlight with 2023’s ‘The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We.’

Mitski achieved runaway success with ‘My Love All Mine’ from the 2023 album. The song caught virality on TikTok and catapulted the singer to her first Billboard Hot 100 entry. Pitchfork reports there were over 2.5 million videos soundtracked by the song.

Mitski bears little connection to the 70s soft rock, tranquil Americana which enchanted millions on ‘The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We.’ NME states, ‘Nothing is About to Happen to Me’ ‘is, without question, the most musically ambitious album of her career.’ The singer’s latest release is laden with hammering guitar breakdowns and the bludgeoning of punk-inspired drums. Tinny, screaming vocals and a rapid heartbeat drum can be heard on ‘The White Cat,’ as its lyrics depict the narrator’s frustration that the neighborhood cat has claimed her home as their own. Pitchfork calls the music ‘skilfully marshalled: sober and lucid even while hallucinogenic and deranged.’

The album was recorded Sunset Sound and TTG Studios in Los Angeles and features live in-the-room instrumentation from the touring band of ‘The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We.’ Patrick Hyland, longtime collaborator of Mitski, joins her again as producer, and Bob Weston is credited with mastering. Mitski is credited with writing all songs on the album as well as recording all vocals.

Mitski will present ‘Nothing is About to Happen to Me’ in select cities, with residencies few major cities. She will spend six nights at the Shed in New York City, five nights at Hollywood High School in Los Angeles and four nights at the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia. Other cities featured on the tour are Bangkok, Jakarta, Mexico City, Paris, Brussels, Manila and more.

As for UK shows, Mitski will appear in Glasgow, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Bristol and Kingston this May. She will finish her UK run with a show at the Royal Albert Hall in London. More information on her upcoming tour can be found here.

Maxïmo Park have announced a UK tour to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of their debut album ‘A Certain Trigger‘. The tour will begin next February, at the O2 Academy in Glasgow, and will be supported by English indie rock band Art Brut.

Indie rock band Maxïmo Park, from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, were part of the 2000’s British post-punk revival, alongside bands such as Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines and Franz Ferdinand. The band released their debut album ‘A Certain Trigger‘ in 2005, and 20 years later they have announced a tour to celebrate their seminal album, ending their tour with a homecoming show in the O2 City Hall in Newcastle.

‘A Certain Trigger‘ includes singles such as ‘Apply Some Pressure’ and ‘Going Missing’ and was released to critical acclaim. The album was nominated for the 2005 Mercury Prize and reached #20 on the UK Albums Chart. It sold over 500,000 copies worldwide and was certified Gold by the BPI. On the 20th anniversary tour, the band will play the album in it’s entirety as well as some of their greatest hits from throughout the years.

They announced their tour on Instagram, displayed below:

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Paul Smith, frontman of Maxïmo Park said ““Not many bands make it to a twentieth year together so we’re having a big celebration, with a special 20th anniversary tour and by giving a fresh perspective to A Certain Trigger. Our first album remains dear to so many people, and compiling archive material for the reissue has been like entering a time machine – thrilling, but also a bit scary!”.

The band have been teasing the announcement of this tour for the past 3 days, with the following post being uploaded to Instagram on Monday. This caused speculation and excitement amongst fans who have been eagerly awaiting this announcement, following their hugely successful 10th anniversary tour of the same album in 2015.

The Museum opened in June 2004 at the original site of the Foundling Hospital, founded in 1739. The hospital was the UK’s first children’s charity and public art gallery. The Museum commemorates this as ‘the only cultural institution in the UK to celebrate people who have been in care, and all those who care for them’, with curation of art, music, writing and objects.

Dacus has spoken about her connection with the cause as the artist herself was adopted. She explains the importance of contemporary support for young people in care, revealing in an interview with The Guardian that she invited trainees to the performance to show them, “hey, I’m doing cool shit – you can do cool shit.”. The inspiring artist has also discussed the significance of Museums and churches when touring her new music with the album cover presenting a Renaissance-style painting of the singer by artist Will St John. In Wallpaper‘s interview with Dacus, she explores the significance of singing queer personal stories in historical spaces where this has ‘probably never happened’, noting that when performing in churches, the thought occurred to her that ‘there were years in the past in this church where I would have been killed’. This amplifies the significance of such a performance, striking a chord with the queer community.

She also notices the importance of historical landmarks and inclusion of other artists such as Will St John as well as several actors and artists from Cara Delevigne to Christina Moreland in the music video for ‘Best Guess’ off her latest album ‘Forever is a feeling’.

Her inclusion of inspirational artists is important in a contemporary context, as she discusses her thoughts on AI, an issue widely discussed in the music industry as of late. Dacus expresses that she finds the issue a frustrating shortcut to art that negates the ‘internal process. That’s the entire reason for me’. Her choice of locations in these intimate shows speaks to a love of the human-ness and history of art as well as its organic creation.
Dacus will return to the UK on 26 June in London, following with a show in Edinburgh on 30 June and Manchester on 2 July where she will perform her latest album ‘Forever is a feeling’, her fourth studio album released on 28 March. The 13 track album is a sentimental acoustic pop release embracing love and life.

It remains one of their most recognisable and streamed tracks, contributing significantly to the success of their debut album, ‘Inside In/Inside Out‘ (2006). The song’s catchy melody and introspective lyrics helped cement The Kooks as a staple of the mid-2000s indie rock scene. With ‘Never/Know‘, The Kooks aim to recapture the essence of their early work while pushing their sound into new territories.

Colin Meloy, the children’s author and distinctive voice behind The Decemberists, is embarking on a solo journey across the Atlantic, with two highly anticipated performances in London and Dublin this spring. Meloy, renowned for his literary storytelling and folk-infused melodies, will grace the stage at Dublin’s Vicar Street on 25 March and London’s Union Chapel on 1 April 2025.

Meloy’s musical career has been defined by a unique blend of indie-folk and alternative country, marked by a voice reminiscent of a throaty Johnny Flynn. His artistic journey began in Montana with the indie outfit Tarkio, before he moved to Portland, Oregon, and co-founded The Decemberists in 2000. Over the past two decades, the band has released nine albums, blending historical and literary references with rich instrumentation. Their most recent work, ‘As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again,‘ showcases a culmination of their sonic evolution—an ambitious double album that weaves intricate narratives with progressive folk-rock influences.

Despite his success with The Decemberists, Meloy’s solo endeavours have always provided a more intimate glimpse into his artistry. His solo tours, dating back to 2005, have seen him reinterpreting the works of musical legends such as Morrissey and Shirley Collins. With a penchant for storytelling, Meloy’s solo performances strip down the grand theatrics of The Decemberists, offering audiences a raw and heartfelt experience.

Meloy’s songwriting, often deadly serious yet laced with humour, has a rare ability to touch the soul. Whether delving into historical tragedies or whimsical fables, his music strikes a chord with listeners who appreciate a deft blend of melancholy and wit. His recent post on Instagram—where he jokingly emerged from his “Instagram slumber” to announce his first-ever UK and Ireland solo dates—reflects his characteristic blend of self-deprecating charm and earnest enthusiasm.

London’s Union Chapel, an architectural marvel steeped in history, provides the perfect setting for Meloy’s lyrical introspection. With its soaring acoustics and intimate atmosphere, the venue is no stranger to hosting folk luminaries, and Meloy’s performance is poised to be a highlight of the spring music calendar.

For those who have followed Meloy’s career—from the early days of open mic nights in Portland pizza parlours to sold-out festival stages—his solo shows promise an evening of storytelling, humour, and the timeless allure of folk music. Tickets for the London and Dublin performances are expected to sell quickly, as fans eagerly await the opportunity to witness Meloy’s solo artistry in such an intimate setting.

Meloy’s return to the UK comes off the back of a successful performance with The Decemberists at All Points East in Victoria Park during the summer of 2024. That show reaffirmed his place as one of indie-folk’s most compelling voices, and his solo appearances will undoubtedly serve as an extension of his rich musical legacy.

From heartfelt ballads to dancefloor anthems, artists across genres pushed creative boundaries and resonated deeply with audiences worldwide.

Coldplay’s ‘Fix You’ from their third studio album ‘X&Y ‘ has become one of the band’s most iconic and emotional tracks. The ballad, which builds from a minimalistic arrangement to a grand, powerful climax, explores themes of healing and resilience. Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, revealed he found inspiration for the track after his father-in-law (actor Bruce Paltrow) died, and stated he’s most proud of this song “because it’s so unlikely that that song would have come out of that period.” The song continues to resonate deeply with listeners and has become a staple on their ‘Music Of The Spheres’ Tour.

Gorillaz’s ‘Dare,’ featuring Shaun Ryder, showcased the British band’s signature mix of Dance-Pop, Funk, and Electronic elements. The track charted in the Top 10 of the UK Singles Chart for four weeks and remains one of the most popular songs in Gorillaz discography. Its iconic music video and animated visuals further solidified the band’s status as pioneers in blending music with visual art.

The Black Eyed Peas’ ‘Pump It,’ from their album ‘Monkey Business’, is renowned for its sample from Dick Dale’s ‘Misirlou’. The song’s emotional lyrics, simple instrumentation, and sincere delivery made it one of the most memorable ballads of the year. Its catchy hook and Post-Punk influences helped the band gain mainstream popularity as the single soared to the Top 10 in various countries, including the UK.

The Pussycat Dolls’ ‘Don’t Cha’, featuring Bust Rhymes, was another standout single from 2005, blending Pop, R&B, and Hip-Hop into a catchy, danceable anthem. At a time when music videos were a crucial platform for artists to express their visual identity, the iconic choreography in the ‘Don’t Cha’ music video solidified the track’s place in pop culture. Equally, the song’s playful lyrics propelled the American girl group to stardom as it claimed No.1 position in the UK for three weeks.

Lastly, ‘Ghetto Gospel’ featuring Elton John was released as a single in 2005, a year after 2Pac’s posthumous album ‘Loyal to the Game’, produced by American rapper Eminem. The song’s fusion of 2Pac’s iconic Rap style with Elton John’s soulful vocals was groundbreaking and exemplifies the ability of music to transcend genre boundaries. As a result, it achieved global success, peaking at No.2 on the UK Singles Chart. The track is poignant not only for its themes of struggle and redemption but also as it marked the end of 2Pac’s posthumous releases.

The year 2005 was a defining moment in music history, a turning point in a decade filled with innovation and creativity.

These 20 songs exemplify cultural movements in the industry during this time: with Hip-Hop releases catalysing its rise to pop culture; the emergence of Neo-Soul and continuous evolution of R&B; Latin Pop’s transition into mainstream; the surge of Pop-Punk into global charts; the Indie Rock Revival, which reshaped how Rock music was approached; and the increasing popularity of EDM.

Additionally, the music industry was revolutionised by the rise of streaming platforms, enabling artists to connect directly with fans and increasing the impact of music videos on pop culture. The accessibility of DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) empowered musicians to create and produce high-quality tracks entirely digitally and in home-studios. Meanwhile, the growth of MP3 players made music portable, changing the way music was consumed and enjoyed – a shift that still resonates today.

These cultural movements not only shaped the decade but continue to influence music 20 years later. The 2000s undoubtedly reshaped the music industry, the way artists create and share music, and the way it is consumed, laying the groundwork for the music industry today.

While Pop dominated the charts, other genres were growing into mainstream forces such as Hip-Hop, Rock Revival, and Latin Pop. Pioneering platforms like iTunes and YouTube – also celebrating its 20th anniversary – laid the foundation for today’s streaming-driven music culture. Several tracks of this era have risen to anthem status, each shaping their respective genres.

‘Dakota’ by Stereophonics was one of the most notable releases and is sure to be a highlight on their upcoming tour. Blending the band’s characteristic classic Rock sound with modern Rock elements, the song marked a significant shift in their musical direction. It achieved commercial success, reaching No.1 on the UK Singles Chart, and played a crucial role in reaffirming the relevance of guitar-driven rock during a time when pop and electronic music were dominant.

Another standout track of 2005 was Akon’s ‘Lonely’ – a track showcasing the rapper’s distinctive blend of R&B, Hip-Hop, and Pop. Its instantly recognisable hook is a pitch-shifted, sped-up sample from Bobby Vinton’s ‘Mr. Lonely’ (1962). ‘Lonely’ played an important role in pioneering Hip-Hop’s presence in mainstream music, topping the charts in multiple countries, including the UK, Australia, and Germany.

The second single from Oasis’ album ‘Don’t Believe the Truth’ made its mark in 2005. ‘The Importance of Being Idle,’ is widely regarded as one of the standout tracks from the album, and reflected the band’s ongoing love for British Rock, incorporating elements reminiscent of The Beatles’ Psych-Pop era. It debuted at No.1 on the UK Singles Chart and remains a concert staple, further cementing Oasis’ legacy in Rock music.
Nizlopi’s ‘JCB Song’ is a distinctive track reflective of the UK’s acoustic and indie music scene in the mid-2000s, introducing a more acoustic, Folk-inspired sound to mainstream audiences. The track’s simple arrangement of guitar, bass, and piano, combined with a catchy melody and relatable themes of childhood innocence, resonated widely, and propelled the track to No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart.

The song’s minimalist electronic production, robotic vocals, and repetitive, hypnotic lyrics captured the essence of the French duo’s unique style and their exploration of the relationship between technology and modern life. ‘Human After All’ reached the Top 10 in the UK Albums Chart and was certified gold in France within the first few weeks of its release.

‘I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor’, the debut single by British Rock band Arctic Monkeys, topped the UK Singles Chart, a remarkable achievement considering it gained popularity largely through internet attention and word of mouth, without traditional promotion from a major record label. Driven by Garage Rock influences, the track’s raw sound, energetic guitars, and driving rhythm, illustrated the core of Indie Rock in the mid-2000s.

‘Hung Up’, from Madonna’s 2005 album ‘Confessions on a Dance Floor’, was a cultural landmark, fusing high-energy dance-pop with a disco influence, evident in its upbeat tempo, funky bassline, and synth-heavy production. The track is built around the sample from ABBA’s ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme (a Man After Midnight)’ with the repetitive, memorable hook “Time goes by so slowly”. It quickly became a global success, topping the UK Singles Chart and reaching No. 1 in over 40 countries.

Damian Marley’s ‘Welcome to Jamrock’ blended Reggae, Dancehall, and Hip-Hop, providing a powerful reflection on social, economic, and political issues in Jamaica. The groundbreaking track showcased his ability to merge Jamaican rhythms with contemporary global sounds and helped introduce Marley to a wider audience. Landing in the Top 40 on the UK Singles Chart, the single marked a breakthrough in the UK music scene.

Robbie Williams also made waves in 2005 with his song ‘Tripping’ from the album ‘Intensive Care’. The track’s gritty guitar riff and introspective lyrics highlight a shift from Williams’ earlier Pop sound, exploring themes of disillusionment and the emotional challenges of fame (a central topic in his recent biopic). The track’s G-Funk inspired beat and soulful melodies played a significant role in defining the sound of West Coast Hip-Hop in the mid-2000s.
