Noah Kahan comes all the way from Strafford, Vermont, and began his musical journey with the release of his debut EP, ‘Hurt Somebody’, in 2018. The title track, especially the duet version featuring Julia Michaels, achieved significant international success, charting globally and earning Gold status in the United States. This song blends folk-pop elements with raw and heartfelt lyrics, showcasing Kahan’s emotive vocal delivery and knack for creating emotional storytelling through lyrics.

In 2019, Kahan released his debut album, ‘Busyhead’, which included tracks like ‘False Confidence’ and ‘Save Me’. This album continued to highlight his folk-pop style, characterised by introspective songwriting and melodic arrangements. His third album, ‘I Was / I Am’, followed in 2021, featuring songs such as ‘Godlight’ and ‘Someone Like You’, the latter a collaboration with Joy Oladokun who added beautiful countryesque vocals.

However, 2023 marked a significant breakthrough for Kahan with the release of his single ‘Stick Season’. Inspired by the transitional period in Vermont between autumn and winter, the song resonated with a wide audience, capturing the feeling of change and uncertainty especially with the lyrics, “I hope this pain’s just passin’ through
But I doubt it”. Stick Season features acoustic-driven instrumentation, with a blend of folk and indie influences, and showcases Kahan’s vivid lyrical imagery. The track achieved considerable success, flooding all over social media and eventually reached the UK Top 10 in October 2023 and climbing to Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart in January 2024 marking a significant breakthrough for Kahan in the UK music scene.

Looking ahead, Kahan has an eventful year planned for 2025. In addition to the Cardiff performance, he is set to headline London’s Hyde Park on July 4, where he will be joined by singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams. Just days before, he will also take the stage in Dublin on July 1 for a massive show at Marlay Park. These performances further cement his growing popularity and status as a festival headliner. With a devoted fanbase and a signature sound that blends folk, pop, and indie influences, Kahan has established himself as one of the most compelling singer-songwriters of his generation.

As Noah Kahan continues to captivate audiences with his captivating performances and relatable songwriting, the upcoming Cardiff gig at Blackweir Fields stands as a highlight of his 2025 tour schedule. Fans are encouraged to secure their tickets promptly to be part of this memorable musical experience.

Taking to the BBC Radio 1 Dance Stage, it was the group’s first appearance at the festival for 9 years, having previously performed at the 2014 edition.

The set was confirmed by the festival on Thursday but still took some festival goers by surprise, even though the indie legends had previously hinted at a possible return to Reading and Leeds last month on Twitter (X).

Frontman Jack Steadman, perhaps referencing their previous Reading and Leeds set back in 2014 when they played to an empty tent, admitted part way in the set, “We weren’t sure anyone was going to show up”. This time, however, the gates were well and truly open and the indie legends filled the dance tent with ease, with Steadman offering his thanks for making this a reality, saying, “This is wonderful. Thank you, guys. It’s good to see you”. Watch footage of Bombay Bicycle Club’s opening set below:

The indie rock group, consisting of Jack Steadman (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Jamie MacColl (guitar), Ed Nash (bass), and Suren de Saram (drums), formed in 2005. After releasing demos of songs on Myspace, the band entered the music scene for good after winning Virgin Mobile’s “Road to V” competition in the summer of 2006, enabling them to perform at the 2006 V Festival with the opening slot. And now here they are opening Reading and Leeds to a set of adoring fans, the very definition of full circle.

English indie rock outfit Bombay Bicycle Club have announced a new album, My Big Day, which is scheduled to be released later this year on October 20th via Island Records.

Our sixth album, My Big Day, is coming out Oct 20. It is a shared endeavour with old and new friends and we can’t wait to share it with you.

The North London based band have also shared the title track from the upcoming LP, complete with an absurdist music video that combines frontman Jack Steadman (or Mr Jukes as he is known by those who know) as a newscaster, the song’s lyrical content and wacky headlines and stories.

Watch the music video for “My Big Day” below:

The indie rock group, consisting of Jack Steadman (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Jamie MacColl (guitar), Ed Nash (bass), and Suren de Saram (drums), formed in 2005 with all but Nash attending the same secondary school, with Nash joining the band a year later. After releasing demos of songs on Myspace, the band entered the music scene for good after winning Virgin Mobile’s “Road to V” competition in the summer of 2006, enabling them to perform at the 2006 V Festival with the opening slot.

Bombay Bicycle Club then released their debut EP, The Boy I Used to Be, in 2007 and recorded their debut album, I Had the Blues But I Shook Them Loose, the following year, eventually releasing it in the summer of 2009. The LP received a reasonably positive reception, peaking at number 46 on the UK Albums Chart, and the lead single, “Always Like This“, released two months prior to the album, reaching number 97 on the UK Singles Chart.

Watch the music video for “Always Like This” below:

The band’s next album, Flaws, an acoustic dive into indie folk, came in 2010, reaching number 8 on the UK Albums Chart, marking a significant increase in the group’s popularity. The group then returned to their electric guitar based indie rock beginnings with their following two albums, with A Different Kind of Fix released in 2011, and So Long, See You Tomorrow in 2014.

Bombay Bicycle club announced an indefinite hiatus in 2016, with Steadman and Nash each releasing solo material, before returning in 2020 with the group’s fifth studio album, Everything Else Has Gone Wrong. 2020 also saw the band release a charity EP, Two Lives, covering Bonnie Raitt, release a live album wherein they performed their debut album in full at Brixton, and perform a virtual livestream at Konk Studios.

Londoner Matilda Mann has released a new indie folk-pop ballad “In Plain Sight” ahead of her forthcoming summer EP You Look Like You Can’t Swim. The single was released on the 5th May and is the second single from the EP to be released following the romantic track “The Day That I Met You”.

Sweet, warm, and hazy sounding, it makes sense that Mann wrote “In Plain Sight” on the hottest day of last year. In a recent interview with Dork Magazine, she said the song is about: “it’s crazy, out of all the people in the world, you manage to find someone so perfect for you, hidden in plain sight”. Listen to “In Plain Sight” below:

Mann’s acoustic fourth EP You Look Like You Can’t Swim is set to come out at the end of June. In an Instagram caption, the singer confessed, “I’ve never been so excited about a project and all these songs have been so exciting to watch come to life”. The singer seems to have found her home in the stripped-back quiet style as she told Dork the EP, “really made me realise how much I enjoy the folk side of my music and the harmonies and types of instruments that go along with it”.

Though her EP is not even available to the public yet, Mann is already looking forward. She revealed to Dork that she’s already got the name and “most of the tracks” for her debut album.

The ambitious 23-year-old has already cultivated quite a following, sold out shows in her hometown, and supported some of Gen Z’s favourite artists such as Dodie, Arlo Parks, Beabadoobee, and The Staves on tour. The British Music Embassy shined a spotlight on the singer by including her on the lineup for SXSW Online 2021. Her comforting single “Paper Mache World” from her 2020 EP Because I Wanted You to Know featured in the hit coming-of-age queer Netflix drama Heartstopper. Last year, she was nominated for the Ivor Novello Rising Star Award.

Showcasing her versatility, Mann teamed with the French-Korean singer-songwriter spill tab in January putting out the lively guitar-driven bedroom pop track “Borderline Insane”. Listen to “Borderline Insane” below:

On the 18th May, Mann will be serenading a sold-out crowd at the Jazz Café in Camden, London. Just before the release of her fourth EP, she’ll be supporting English singer-songwriter Tom Grennan on four outdoor dates in forests around the country. She will also be performing at two festivals this summer: Kendal Calling in the Lake District and Tramlines in Sheffield. For tickets and more information see here.

After months of teases from the British multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Marika Hackman has finally released her new album, “Any Human Friend”, on August 9th. Described by The Guardian as “woozy” and “her most accomplished album yet”, the solo artist worked with producer David Wrench in fully realising this speculated break up album. Despite having been around the British Indie music scene for quite a while, and with her first EP consisting solely of covers and produced by Alt-J’s Charlie Andrew, Hackman has definitely managed to keep pretty underground with her success, even after signing with Sub Pop in 2018.

However, rather than taking a standard approach to this very over-generated theme of love and breakups, Hackman has used this as a self-exploration into her own sexuality and well-being. With the release of her first single [I’m Not Where You Are] from this album back in April, the songstress said she thinks people will be “shocked by the language I’m using and how direct I’m being about sex and women,” further explaining, “but we hear lyrics in music all the time that are about fucking women and bitches and all this stuff that’s disempowering for the woman and very much objectifying her. So I’m here writing music about fucking, and it’s in a much more unifying and sexy way.”

This approach has come as a surprise to some of her fans and critics, as Marika is most well-known for her softer, more folky way of writing songs. However, it could be argued here that Hackman had been already planning this new emergence of intimate work dating back to her previous body of music in 2017, “I’m Not Your Man”, where she began opening up lyrically about her queer identity for the first time and hinting at her relationship with musician, Amber Bain [The Japanese House].

Reviews from Pitchfork have claimed that this new album has some “dull moments” that “draw some laughs and eye rolls” based on lyrics that are “less cutting” and perhaps immature or cliche. But, this is definitely an album to be appreciated. Exploring vulnerability, female sexuality, politics and identity in a way that isn’t currently being discussed, alongside some really wonderful, mucky pop sonic worlds – Marika Hackman is coming into her own with this exciting record.

“Any Human Friend” can be purchased here.

It’s been something of a whirlwind year for the boys. The Agape E.P was released earlier this year, they had a headline tour of the UK in February, they’ve played with Mumford and Sons on their US tour and on their Summer Stampede event at the Olympic Park in London, set to support Daughter on their upcoming US dates and will be supporting Matt Corby on his tour of Australia in October. And now they are set to release Without/Within in late October, and you can stream the opening track from the record Sahara below. It’s a vast, expansive song with delicate vocals and a soft string segment, before building into a huge finale that is destined to fill shows all over the globe.
