Ian Miles is back off the bat of Creeper’s new EP, American Noir. Which was a follow-up from the band’s 2020 sophomore album Sex, Death & the Infinite Void. Ian plays a crucial part in Creeper and has been gearing up for his own solo effort Degeneration, Death, Decay for a little while now since the single “Truest Blue”. He has been a part of Creeper since their first self-titled EP and has seen them through The Callous Hearts (2015), The Stranger (2016), and First album Eternity, In Your Arms (2017). Now working alone, as he has done before, he has embarked on one of the most personal things written by Ian.

After a summer of Adoring crowds at Slam Dunk and Reading & Leeds, Creeper guitarist Ian Miles has been busy in anticipation of his first solo album. Showing his triumph after a difficult struggle with his mental health that led to him writing from a psychiatric ward. Creeper guitarist Ian Miles announced his album earlier in the year. His second single “Overwhelmed”, shares his haunting yet beautiful acoustic tone as Ian Miles explores the human psyche in a heartbreakingly honest way. A poetically dark album on the same level as Have A Nice Life’s Deathconsciousness (2008) as it looks inside itself for the answers. You can get your copy of the album in beautiful pink and black splatter print here, be sure to grab your copy quickly before they sell out.

Off the back of Creeper’s new EP, American Noir followed the band 2020 album Sex, Death & the Infinite Void, which sadly due to the pandemic was unable to be toured. But, now with Slam Dunk under their belt. Playing to an adoring crowd who were sad to see they missed Reading and Leeds. Now, after a difficult struggle with his mental health that led to him writing from a psychiatric ward. Creeper guitarist Ian Miles announces solo album: Degradation, Death, Decay.

As we speculate what we can expect from the album, the first single “Truest Blue” is available now. The song is exciting and displays what we can come to expect in the month leading up to its release. “I’ve never really seen this as a solo project because I’ve been writing and recording acoustic music since I was about 15,” He explained. Continuing on he had to say: “I don’t want to be the focus of this record, it’s not about me so I have decided to hide me. I want people to solely focus on the art.”.

Degradation, Death, Decay is due to be released on October 15th. With a release show in Ian’s hometown of Southampton on October 8th. The show will be at God’s House Tower. We are not sure what to expect from the gig, but with creeper’s reputation for performance theatrics, we can expect it to bleed into the energy of what Ian is putting into this new music. With the clear horror image, the stage is sure to be set for a night we will not forget.

Last year Creeper guitarist Ian Miles was committed to a psychiatric hospital after he suffered from a psychotic episode. It was during that time of his life, when he was working on the bands new album “Sex, Death and the Infinite Void”, which dropped today (July 31) – whilst being hospitalised. During a Zoom call with Radio 1 Newsbeat, he opened up about Creeper’s “worst year of their lives.”

Miles isn’t alone while he’s talking about what happened, singer Will Gould is also with him. The band is based in Southampton, which is where it all happened. “I was told by this underground cult that my area was Southampton, so I was to go out and eradicate religion in my area. That was what happened that day – I was on a mission to help the cause”, the guitarist said.

When he’s being asked if he’s being uncomfortable with certain information being published, he just replies that he wouldn’t reveal stuff that he doesn’t want to be published. It’s quite the opposite, actually: “There’s a lot of misinformation out there about mental health and I feel like people should be educated.”

1/3

it is July 31st 2020, opening day.

two & a half years of work have lead to this very moment, a moment in time that will stay with us like the persistence of glitter on skin.https://t.co/KMr427ivrP pic.twitter.com/Qjl63Fv3dG

The 31-year-old was diagnosed with a bipolar disorder “a long time ago”, but it wasn’t until it was too late that he realised how bad it could be. “There was all sorts of stuff going on. Like I thought I could kill people by blinking at them. I thought religion and the police were collecting money and handing it up to the government and MI5 to buy nuclear weapons to end the world. And so I thought there was an underground cult that were looking to shut down religion – I was trying to fight the good fight.”

But even with Miles institutionalised there was no way for the band to stop working on the album. Will Gould revealed that he was “an anxious mess” but that they had to keep going. “At the time, basically the band was going to break up if if we stopped… we had to deliver.” And so they continued to work on it via FaceTime. “Ian’s wife brought a guitar into the hospital and I would FaceTime him from a piano and we would try and write like that.”

“I remember trying to find a chord for a song and, at the time, Ian was still really unwell and believing all these delusions, but it was really funny because he could still just turn all of that off for a second to help me work out what chord I needed.” Creeper’s new album is out today, if you want to check out how working from different rooms has worked out.
