Dubbed as Summer Solstice II, Serge and his bandmates will grace the stage at Leicester’s Victoria Park, captivating an audience of 38,000 music enthusiasts. This marks their return to the public space in their hometown after a decade since their last headline performance. The announcement has sent fans into a frenzy, with social media buzzing with excitement.

Following the tremendous success of their previous album, The Alchemist’s Euphoria, which reached Number One last summer, there are no indications that Kasabian will be slowing down anytime soon.

An electric show is not the only thing that fans can expect from the Kasabian lads. They have also announced that the Kaiser Chiefs will be joining them as a support act, with more acts to be announced later. Although their last headline performance at Victoria Park was ten years ago, the rockers performed a secret set at the venue in 2016 to celebrate Leicester City winning the Premier League.

Serge, speaking about the show, expressed the significance of creating lasting memories and experiences. He emphasized the impact of witnessing such an event in one’s hometown, with the sound, noise, and music etching unforgettable memories in one’s mind. Serge believes that these memories are what people carry with them when reflecting on their lives. He emphasised the importance of attending the gig, stating that it is an experience that cannot be missed. He said, “Seeing something like this in your hometown, you know – the sound, the noise, the music – those memories, that’s what you take with you when you look back on your life and it’s like, you’ve gotta be there, you can’t miss it, you can’t let this happen and not be at that gig, you know? It’s creating those moments and doing it where you’re from and inspiring the next wave, hopefully, of young kids in Leicester seeing it happen and then them starting a band, that’s kind of what it’s all about.”

Chris, on the other hand, highlighted the significance of this show being a decade after their first one. He expressed that it has always been their desire to do it again and to give back to the city. As there is no large arena in Leicester, this show serves as their arena, where big shows happen. Chris considers it a privilege to be able to perform in their hometown once more. He said,“It’s 10 years after the first one, it’s something we’ve always wanted to do again, and it’s something that we can give back to the city. There’s no big arena in Leicester, so this is our arena. This is where the big shows happen. And so to be able to do it again is just a privilege.”

The 10 000 capacity venue, spread across five rooms, will also feature a variety of legendary Haçienda acts, including David Morales, Roger Sanchez, former Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook and Mark XTC to name a few. Mike Pickering and Graeme Park will also join forces in a very special back-to-back set. Additionally, groups such as Inner City and Soul II Soul will feature, as will Factory indie band A Certain Radio.

Graeme Park, speaking about the event, has said, “I’m already beyond excited about The Haçienda returning to Depot Mayfield this December. Last year’s event was absolutely epic and the line-up this time promises to make this another huge party. I’m also looking forward to DJing with Mike Pickering for the first time since April 2022. So come on then Manchester! You will not be disappointed.”

Former Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook has had his say on his return to Depot Mayfield, adding, “After a wonderful occasion last year and on our previous visits, we are delighted to reaffirm that The Hacienda’s lifelong legacy is still alive and kicking especially following our recent success dancing in the rain at Castlefield Bowl.”

Hook there was referencing The Haçienda’s recent event at Manchesters’ Castlefield Bowl earlier this month. The Depot Mayfield has also, in previous years, played host to additional Haçienda shows, frequently to great success.

The original Haçienda club, opened in 1982 by record label Factory Records, became the spiritual home of acid house as the genre of dance music quickly spread and captivated a generation in the late 80’s and earlier 90’s. As the Madchester movement gained momentum and popularity, so did The Haçienda, rapidly becoming one the of most famous clubs in the UK and indeed the world, and has maintained an almost cult like following since its inception to the present day.

It is set to take place on May 24, with support coming from Brooke Bentham, Arlo Parks, Nadine Shah, Declan McKenna and Loyle Carner. Tickets for the Newcastle gig will be going on sale this Friday, (December 6). Check out his official website for more details.

In September, Fender released his new single, ‘The Borders’, shortly before the official release date of his debut album, ‘Hypersonic Missiles’, on September 13.

Fender acclaimed the song on Twitter, “This is my favourite song on the album! Big love everyone! Hope you like it!” 

Fender was recently named as the winner of the 2019 Brits Critics’ Choice Award 2019. In previous years winners included Adele, Sam Smith and Florence & The Machine. Sam fought off competition from Lewis Capaldi and Mahalia to take home the award.

Responding to the win, the 25 year old said. “I am truly humbled to win The BRITs Critics’ Choice Award. Being nominated was crazy enough, never mind winning it. I’m so grateful to everyone back home for believing, and to my band and team for all their hard work. We’ve played literally hundreds of shows this year, and we’re going to go even harder in 2019.”

Special guests supporting Liam have yet to be announced. The event will follow on from his UK Arena Tour. His two remaining dates will see him play London’s 02 Arena, (November 28 and 29). You can check out his full tour list at the end of the article.

The tour supported his second solo album, ‘Why Me?, Why Not’, released in September.

Liam Gallagher recently became the first recipient of the Rock Icon Award at the 2019 MTV European Music Awards. The 2019 MTV EMAs took place on November 3 in the Spanish city of Seville, with performances from Dua Lipa, Akon, Halsey and Green Day. Becky G hosted the event. Yesterday, acts were announced for TRNSMT Festival 2020. At the top of the bill, Gallagher was named, along with The Courteeners and Lewis Capaldi.

The gig at Glasgow Green runs from July 10-12. Acts also scheduled to perform include Ian Brown, Foals, Keane, Sam Fender, Snow Patrol, Little Simz, Blossoms and Rita Ora.

Liam will play after Foals and Keane, headlining the Saturday night. He said, “I love Scotland and It’s an honour to be going back to headline TRNSMT Festival,” he said. “P.s. Have I told you lately that I Love You?”

Lewis Capaldi said in a statement, “I’ve been lucky enough to play TRNSMT every year since it’s inception and to be a headliner is absolutely wild. Things are about to get chubby and sexy, fast. See you up the road next year!”

Inhaler, Sam Fender and Easy Life are set to support the band at Victoria Park. It sees the band, responsible for well known hits including ‘Fire’, and ‘Club Foot’ return to Leicester’s Victoria Park on June 20 for the first time in six years.

In 2016 they performed to 240,000 people for a short unannounced set in celebration of Leicester City winning the Premier League title after beating ‘Underdog‘ odds, (5000-1) to the most prestigious trophy in English Football.

“We’re absolutely buzzing to be able to put on Solstice II in our home town of Leicester,” guitarist Serge Pizzorno said, adding. “Anyone who came last time would know how special it was and to get the opportunity to do it again is beyond a dream.”

Serge discussed ‘Solstice II’ to NME on October 22, declaring the band’s aims with the home show. “This is our third time at Victoria Park,”

“As soon as we finished the first time, we were like, ‘We’ve got to do that again’. And it just came back around. The years fly by, and now it’s been six years.”

“The aim is to transcend and the aim is to bring a huge amount of people together and bring them a moment,”

“It will be chaos and absolutely insane. You’ve done me here because I’m getting excited now!”

Kasabian’s last album, ‘For Crying Out Loud’ was released in May 2017, scoring four of five stars on NME. It was an album that was written by Pizzorno in six weeks, described as being “chockablock with massive tunes”.
