Coldplay was formed in 1996 with frontman Martin (Vocalist, rhythm guitarist and pianist), John Buckland (Lead guitarist), Guy Berryman (Bassist) and Will Champion (Drummer).

The band went through two prior band name changes and were known as Pectrolasz and Starfish before setting on the name Coldplay. The band are known for their debut single “Yellow” released on June 26th 2000. The band won two Brit Awards in 2001 for both Best British Group and Album of the Year for their debut album “Parachutes” which reached number 1 in the UK Official Albums Chart.

The band have achieved success in both the UK and US releasing popular singles “Trouble” (2000), “The Scientist” (2002), “Speed of Sound” (2005), “Fix You” (2005), “Viva La Vida” (2008), “Paradise” (2011), “Princess of China” (2012 Duet with Rihanna), “Adventure of A Lifetime” (2015), “Hymn for The Weekend” (2016 Duet with Beyonce) and “Higher Power” (2021)

The band have released eight studio albums to date and are set to release their ninth with their new album. Martin announced the new single on Pete Holmes Podcast You Made It Weird on September 8th.

Martin detailed that the single “Weirdo” was made for a musical and did not provide any details of the name of the musical or any details of the release date of the single. The band are no stranger to musicals and were involved in the Games of Thrones musical in 2015 with the cast from Comic Relief.

As well as the band’s upcoming new single and new album they will be performing at both Climate Pledge Arena on October 22nd in the US and are also headlining Global Citizen Live on September 25th.

The event is a 24-hour event and is to be streamed live in various countries with various artists.
