Foals, Snow Patrol, and Lewis Capaldi Set to Headline Latitude 2022

With the springtime slowly but surely creeping back into existence, that can only mean one thing; a massive influx of festival announcements and conversations about where in the world we’re going to be headed this summer. Suffolk’s own Latitude 2022 have now put forward their offering for the Henham Park Show. With headline slots from math-gone-party rock band Foals, Snow Patrol’s first Latitude appearance in 16 years, and singer-songwriter sensation Lewis Capaldi; the festival will run from July 21^st – 24^th 2022. So far, the organizers have not revealed any information on the days each artist will perform, but I imagine all of the relevant information will come as we near the on-sale date. To get on top of all of the relevant information you can sign up here. Until then, however, we have been given the stage splits. Alongside our headliners, the Obelisk Arena (which I will refer to as the main stage) will also see the likes of American breakthrough singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers, mercury prize nominee Little Simz, and Rina Sawayama whose recent collaboration with Charli XCX took fans by storm. The main stage will also see the likes of a few more… let’s say old-school bands, with Manic Street Preachers, Modest Mouse, and Shed Seven all making appearances. It’d be unreasonable to put Lewis Capaldi on a lineup and not include James Arthur, just as any festival of this calibre needs a hit-filled set of bangers from someone like Example.

Next, we see the BBC Sounds Stage and its slightly different approach to selecting the tunes. With headlining slots by the one and only Phoebe Bridgers, dance-duo Groove Armada bring their mesmerizing energy to the tent, and Fontaines D.C. will be taking their new record Skinty Fia for a spin soon after its April release date. Appearances from Kae Tempest, Cavetown, Maximo Park, Porridge Radio, and a significant chunk of others should provide for most people with even a mild interest in music.

The Sunrise Arena will feature the likes of Let’s Eat Grandma, cktrl, and KEG to possibly introduce you to your favourite new band of the year, the Comedy tent is proud to announce its first headliner as Russel Howard; with additional appearances from The Horne Section, Rosy Jones, and David O’Doherty to name a few. And, according to the festival itself, “It wouldn’t be Latitude without an eclectic range of names from the worlds of dance, poetry, podcasts and more.” So expect a whole host of other talks, events, meetings, and activities over the course of the weekend.

Kaleidoscope Festival 2021 Line Up Announced

The Alexandra Park and Palace one-day festival will be returning for its third birthday, after debuting in 2018. Like all festivals and music events, Kaleidoscope Festival had to cancel their 2020 party due to the ongoing pandemic and restrictions in place. However, the festival are set to return this year with headline acts from Groove Armada and The Coral to perform.

The festival is set to take place on July 24th 2021, over a month after the governments ‘road-map’ date for all lockdown restrictions to be lifted (June 21st!). The Director of Kaleidoscope Festival, Simon Fell, has stated, “to say it’s been a tough last year is a massive understatement, but it’s great to have something to look forward to this summer.”

Fell went on to say, “Kaleidoscope will provide everything you’d want from a festival experience, with loads of green space to explore, the Palace and world class music, comedy and entertainment, all here on one in day in London. To have Groove Armada headlining too, is the stuff summer dreams are made of.It is part of a packed programme we’re preparing at Ally Pally for when restrictions lift, so come and join the fun.”

Groove Armada have recently released their first LP since their 10 year hiatus, Edge of Horizon. The latest album gained wide critical acclaim, gaining 7.5 stars out of 10 from Line Of Best Fit. The duo’s Andy Cato said of the album to NME, “During those studio days, the rest of the world shuts down. There’s an intensity, anyone looking in might say madness, that kicks in when we’re totally lost amongst the instruments, synths and records day and night. But that shared, unspoken feeling that comes when we both know we’ve got it right cuts through as clear as ever.”

Currently priced at £53.50, the one-dayer will be one you do not want to miss. Performing beside Groove Armada and The Coral will be Greg Wilson, House Gospel Choir and Mr Wilson’s Second Liners.

The relatively new festival has been described as ‘unbeatable’ by Evening Standard, who rewarded them with a 4 star review. The festival hosts DJ’s and Spoken Word, with Irvine Welsh and Phil Wang headlining the Comedy tent.

With many more acts to be announced over the coming months, Kaleidoscope Festival will certainly bring the summer vibes after the long lockdown. Tickets are currently on sale and can be found here.

Groove Armada Announce First Album in 10 years, ‘Edge of the Horizon’

Electronic dance duo Groove Armada have announced their first new album in 10 years. Set for release on October 2, Edge of the Horizon will be the band’s seventh studio album and is said to be “[i]nspired by 20 years of tunes that soundtracked travels, sunsets & aftershows”.

Speaking about the album’s recording process, Andy Cato – one half of Groove Armada – said: “During those studio days, the rest of the world shuts down. There’s an intensity, anyone looking in might say madness, that kicks in when we’re totally lost amongst the instruments, synths and records day and night. But that shared, unspoken feeling that comes when we both know we’ve got it right cuts through as clear as ever”.

Alongside the announcement, the duo released new single Lover 4 Now, featuring vocals from garage DJ and producer Todd Edwards. With a languid disco beat and bouncy, summery vibe, the band said the track was made to capture a specific moment: “Ibiza. Poolside at Pikes, that time of the evening when day becomes night and anything seems possible”.

The duo had teased the new record back in April with the release of Get Out On The Dancefloor, featuring the pair’s usual pulsating club dance beats alongside the vocals of fellow electronic dance musicians Empire of the Sun and Pnau’s Nick Littlemore.

Edge of the Horizon is the band’s first new studio album since the release of Black Light and White Light in 2010. Since then, the duo have taken their ‘Superstylin’ grooves across several tours and were set to headline Bluedot Festival this summer, but will instead top the bill next year after the event was postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Wilderness Festival Reveals 2019 Line-Up which Features Robyn, Bombay Bicycle Club, and Groove Armada as Headliners

Wilderness Festival has announced their 2019 line-up, which features a stellar list of names. Among the names revealed today include Robyn, Bombay Bicycle Club, and Groove Armada, who are all set to headline 2019’s festival. The festival will be returning, for its ninth edition this year, to Cornbury Park, in Oxfordshire, between the 1st to the 4th of August 2019. Tickets for the festival are now available, and can be purchased here.

Completing the festival’s impressive headliners, that already includes Robyn, Bombay Bicycle Club and Groove Armada, is Tom Odell, Caravan Palace, Tom Grennan, Eats Everything, and Honey Dijon. The following acts are also on the bill and will be joining the already stellar line-up is Freya Ridings, Ólafur Arnalds, George FitzGerald, Erol Alkan, The Cause present Adonis & Tribes, and SOAK.

Completing the line-up announcement are Blanco White, Durand Jones & The Indications, Ronnie Scott’s presents: Incognito, Ata Kak (Awesome Tapes from Africa), Beating Heart, Cykada, Jurassic 5’s Soup presents: The Fullee Love Collective.

As ever, Wilderness Festival is not just about the music, its also about the arts, nature, and food. This year’s festival is no different as it also features cultural happenings from the Royal Academy, Southbank Centre, Roundhouse, RSA and Sadler’s Wells. Its famous long-table banquets are back, with leading chefs and restaurants including Angela Hartnett’s Café Murano and Petersham Nurseries rustling up sumptuous grub. Speaking about what inspired her to establish the festival, Wilderness Festival founder and organiser, Jo Vidler said: “I transformed Secret Garden Party with Jim Whewell & Ed Dolman in 2007 and after 4 years, we decided we wanted to create a festival which took you right back to nature, where you felt inspired and rejuvenated.”

Continuing she explained, “A place where you could experience all of the Arts in a setting that you would not have seen them before; a gathering of people in bare foot, eating together in mass, swimming in natural water, eating healthy yummy food and, best of all, escaping from your busy life. Tim Harvey, Jim & I came together, and with Dean James along came Wilderness. We would not have come this far with out our incredible general manger Eloise Markewell-Butler either & of course the Secret Production & Mama & co team.”

Bombay Bicycle Club have announced that they will make their return, to the live scene, this summer with a headline slot at the festival. After confirming plans to return once more last month, the London band will now make their first comeback appearance, at the Oxfordshire festival, on Friday the 2nd of August 2019. In January, this year, the band announced their return by sharing a snippet of a 27 second instrumental music.

In a statement the band said: “With a new year ahead of us, we thought now would be a good moment to give you a bit of news about what the four of us have been up to recently and what we have planned. Since late last year we’ve been getting back into the swing of playing music together. We were initially a little rusty but also nostalgic playing songs that have been around since we were teenagers. More than anything it just felt great to be in the same room playing again. It made us realise what a good thing we have and has given us renewed energy and enthusiasm for the future.

“The joy we were getting out of playing the old songs seemed to naturally lead us onto working on new material, so we’re becoming immersed in that as we speak. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we have something new for you guys to hear. We’re also planning some shows for later this year and beyond. We’ll have news on that front over the coming months.”

Groove Armada Announce Huge UK Tour to Celebrate 21st Anniversary

London-based dance pioneers Groove Armada have today announced a momentous stint of UK dates, in celebration of their 21st anniversary of their forming. The duo of Andy Cato and Tom Findlay have released eight studio albums during their time, creating some of the most world’s most popular electronic music, and garnering three Grammy nominations in the process.

The four date winter UK tour will kick off in Bristol on November 29, before concluding at Manchester’s famous Store Street on December 2. Full dates can be seen below, and tickets go on sale here at 9am on Friday, September 14.

The duo first met back in 1994, and in 2002, they founded Lovebox Festival, which is still held to this day in Gunnersbury Park, and saw the likes of Childish Gambino and SZA perform this summer. Speaking on the return of Groove Armada’s renowned live show, Andy Cato said: “The live show is what defined us. Refining a genuinely live dance music experience became an obsession, from minute sonic details to the number of sides on the laser glitter ball. The reward was a lawless and electric 15 years on the road; runs at Brixton so long it felt like we lived there, the loudest ever recorded cheer at Lowlands, taking over Centennial Park in Sydney, Saturday nights in Barrowlands, air traffic control on the phone to the Other Stage at Glastonbury, once you start… We did all this with the best on and off stage crew ever assembled. The vibe in the camp was special and radiated. Behind the scenes, from cooks to truckers, we’re always asked if we’ll get the gang back on the road. If we’re going to do it one more time, it’ll be when we’re 21.”
