This year’s first headliners will see Kneecap bring their unapologetically socially-conscious, political lyricism and bodacious melodies to Wales. Riding the wave of success following their recent BAFTA win for their self-titled biopic, the ‘Get Your Brits Out’ performers will no doubt bring a high energy performance during the festival.

Despite teasing their retirement during Reading Festival in 2023, Wet Leg will be joining Kneecap as Green Man’s Friday night headliners. The group known for their tenderly unique vocals, featuring pop culture references, against the backdrop of classic indie and post-punk instrumentation, will take the stage to perform fan favourites from their self-titled number one album, which has thus far been their only release. Featuring hits ‘Chaise Longue’, ‘Wet Dream’, ‘Ur Mum’ and ‘Angelica’, fans are certainly in for a treat.

As Underworld and TV On The Radio complete this year’s headliners, Green Man have revealed even more exciting acts. 2024 Mercury Prize winners English Teacher will be joining the roster of talent during the festival. The news of their appearance at Green Man follows their newly announced UK Tour, which will see the ‘This Could Be Texas’ band take their talent to London, Manchester and more this year. Alongside English Teacher, fans can expect exciting performances from indie-rock band Wunderhorse, American Singer-Songwriter Perfume Genius and alt-country Irish songstress CMAT.

Extending the bill of contemporary music icons, Green Man have also invited Yard Act, Greentea Peng, Nilüfer Yanya, Kelly Lee Owens and more.

The festival set to return to Bannau Brycheiniog National Park will gift attendees with a star-studded weekend of music and entertainment.

Tickets for Green Man 2025 are now sold out, selling out in two hours (without a single act being announced). Tomorrow (Friday 28 February) will see the festival celebrate this year’s edition with a launch party at The Lexington in London. The event will feature appearances from Gwenno and Broadside Hacks, a folk collective set to pay tribute to folk legend Bob Dylan. Both of which will before during August’s event.

The Welsh music festival the Green Man festival will go ahead this year, unlike many other UK festivals which have chosen to cancel their events in the face of ongoing Covid-19 restrictions. The move was a announced this week, following the Welsh Government’s decision to scrap most regulations from the 7th of August to allow the economy and society to open back up, hopefully for the last time.

Other festivals of a similar size, such as UK Boomtown spin off Boom Village, have decided not to go ahead, stating that “The core decision is due to the escalating cases of Covid-19 across the country, and the risks that widespread illness and self-isolation could have on our crew and contractors, which would result in us not having enough people to build and deliver the show to the high public safety standards we uphold.”

The Green Man festival, founded by Jo and Danny Hagan in 2003, takes place annually in the Brecon Beacons in Wales from the 19th-22nd August. The festival will host a wide range of artists including Mogwai, Caribou, Fontaines DC, and Thundercat, as well as other artists spanning the genres of indie, folk, jazz, pop, post-punk and electronic music. Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai was delighted at the announcement, stating that “We’ve been looking forward to making a racket in the countryside for a long time.”

Wales has been doing better than England in terms of cases and contaminants, hence more optimistic projections for large and live events to be able to go ahead.

All attendees will have to provide proof that they have been double vaccinated at least two weeks before the event takes place, but the festival will not require masks to be worn. The festival is not one of the events making up the government’s testing programme, meaning data will not be collected from the event to analyse how it affects the spread of coronavirus.

It has been reported that Welsh music festival Green Man has called it off due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was originally planned to begin on the weekend of August 20 to 23 at the Brecon Beacons, Wales. However, the organisers announced that they would return next year.

The festival released a heartfelt statement regarding the cancellation: “These are the words we hoped we would never have to write, but it’s with deep sadness that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic we’re announcing that Green Man won’t be taking place this year.” They also confirmed that Green Man would be “re-emerging” on August 19 to 22, 2021.

Similar to those of numerous music festivals that have fallen to the same plight, the organisers of Green Man’s main concern is the safety of everyone involved: “Our number one priority will always be your safety, as well as the artists, crew and traders who are a much loved part of our Green Man family.” They too hoped that all of us could “emerge from this time stronger and more connected than ever before“.

It is also noteworthy that the tickets purchased for this year’s edition will automatically be eligible for the returning one next year. Should you need a refund, please expect an email about the issue from Ticketline, which has been sent out now. Read the full statement below.

This year, the independent music festival planned to bring the 16th annual edition back again at the Brecon Beacons this coming August. The line-up was packed with multiple indie beloved artists such as Michael Kiwanuka, Caribou, Mac Demarco, and Little Dragon.
