Friday’s notable acts include Wunderhorse, John Grant, The Joy, Wing, and Heartworms. Saturday’s artists include Boss Morris, Cmat, MJ Lenderman, and Perfume Genius. Sunday’s other notable acts are Yard Act, Cass McCombs, Hannah Frances, and High Contrast.

The Green Man Festival was established back in 2003 and evolved into a 3-day festival in 2005 with around 300 people each day. The festival now has a capacity of 25,000 festival-goers. The festival is held at the Glanusk Estate within the national park, which is open for walking around the grounds and is an incredible camping location, also used for this festival.

The festival offers comedy, and this year’s lineup includes Stewart Lee, Spencer Jones, Louise Young, Alexandra Haddow, Anna Thomas, Joey Page, and more. This festival has a wide range of activities and experiences to enjoy, including various art installations throughout the site, adding to the creative atmosphere, a literature tent for readings, discussions from authors and literary figures, and family-friendly areas designated for activities catered to children. 

Green Man includes different experiences, such as yoga, silent discos, communal barbecues, foraging workshops, and a wide range of food vendors from the local area. They emphasize the importance of a community-focused atmosphere and a commitment to sustainability throughout the weekend. They have become recognized as a leader in sustainable event management within the festival industry.  

Green Man has many different stages and venues, including the Mountain Stage, for headliners and main acts, the Far Out Stage, designed for late-night entertainment and DJ sets, the Walled Garden, Rising Stage for emerging acts, Round The Twist, for late-night dancing, and Chai Wallahs, a tented area for performances. 

The Green Man Festival allows the chance for attendees to enjoy various and unique activities, experiences, and live music throughout the weekend. The camping grounds open this Thursday, August 14, and festivities begin on Friday, August 15. You can find more information about the weekend here.  

Green Man Festival takes place from the 14-17th August and works to support up and coming artists. The competition saw 4000 applicants with the winner playing the Mountain Stage and runners up playing the Rising Stage. In previous years these stages have hosted the likes of The Last Dinner Party, Black Country New Road and Bon Iver.

To emerge as a finalist from that number already proves your phenomenal talent. But there can only be one winner and we are delighted to welcome wing! to open the Mountain stage, sharing the bill with the likes of Underworld and Wet Leg, and joining the music legends who have graced that stage over the years, or even launched their careers.”

 Combining ambient hip-hop textures with jazz flourishes and broken beat rhythms, Wing! is more than just a solo act. For the Rising showcase, Swan expanded his live setup into a full trio, delivering a set that mesmerized both audience and judges alike, including BBC Radio Wales’ own Huw Stephens, who’s long championed boundary-pushing music.

With the win, Wing! is set to reach an even wider audience, but they’re not slowing down in the lead-up to the festival. The trio is currently storming the UK live circuit with a string of energetic and genre-defying performances. You can catch them tonight at London’s The Social, as part of an event hosted by taste making indie publication So Young Magazine — a must-attend for anyone keeping tabs on the UK’s most vital new acts.

And for those who haven’t yet heard what all the buzz is about, stream their latest single ‘Pack It In‘ — available now on all major streaming platforms. It’s definitely a preview of something much bigger to come.

Hailing in Brecon Beacon, Wales and first established in 2003, Green Man showcase the most exciting acts across a plethora of genres, including: folk, indie, world music, electronic and psychedelia.

This year’s first headliners will see Kneecap bring their unapologetically socially-conscious, political lyricism and bodacious melodies to Wales. Riding the wave of success following their recent BAFTA win for their self-titled biopic, the ‘Get Your Brits Out’ performers will no doubt bring a high energy performance during the festival.

Despite teasing their retirement during Reading Festival in 2023, Wet Leg will be joining Kneecap as Green Man’s Friday night headliners. The group known for their tenderly unique vocals, featuring pop culture references, against the backdrop of classic indie and post-punk instrumentation, will take the stage to perform fan favourites from their self-titled number one album, which has thus far been their only release. Featuring hits ‘Chaise Longue’, ‘Wet Dream’, ‘Ur Mum’ and ‘Angelica’, fans are certainly in for a treat.

As Underworld and TV On The Radio complete this year’s headliners, Green Man have revealed even more exciting acts. 2024 Mercury Prize winners English Teacher will be joining the roster of talent during the festival. The news of their appearance at Green Man follows their newly announced UK Tour, which will see the ‘This Could Be Texas’ band take their talent to London, Manchester and more this year. Alongside English Teacher, fans can expect exciting performances from indie-rock band Wunderhorse, American Singer-Songwriter Perfume Genius and alt-country Irish songstress CMAT.

Extending the bill of contemporary music icons, Green Man have also invited Yard Act, Greentea Peng, Nilüfer Yanya, Kelly Lee Owens and more.

The festival set to return to Bannau Brycheiniog National Park will gift attendees with a star-studded weekend of music and entertainment.

Tickets for Green Man 2025 are now sold out, selling out in two hours (without a single act being announced). Tomorrow (Friday 28 February) will see the festival celebrate this year’s edition with a launch party at The Lexington in London. The event will feature appearances from Gwenno and Broadside Hacks, a folk collective set to pay tribute to folk legend Bob Dylan. Both of which will before during August’s event.

Other notable acts performing at Green Man this year include prolific cult-heroes Osees, art-rock collective Black Country, New Road, alternative rock group Bar Italia, Scottish shoegaze heavyweights The Jesus and Mary Chain and singer-songwriter Arlo Parks. Also coming to the Brecon Beacons in August are New York alternative rock outfit Blonde Redhead, experimental rock favourites Fat White Family, Kate Stables’ Indie rock band This Is the Kit, jazz quintet Ezra Collective and exciting folk-punk newcomers The New Eves.

Set to return to Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, Wales, the festival is scheduled to run from 15-18 August 2024, and will, for these four days, be home to not only a fantastic variety of live music but also an array of other entertainment, including literature, film, science, theatre and comedy. The grounds are divided into ten areas to accommodate this, ensuring that festival-goers will never experience a dull moment.

Sleaford Mods, the highly influential post-punk/punk-rap duo comprised of vocalist Jason Williamson and DJ Andrew Fearn, will return to Green Man festival for the first time since 2017, and arrive now as a headline act following their incredible success in recent years.

Also headlining this year’s event, and also returning to Green Man as a headliner following a performance in a past year, is New York-based indie folk group Big Thief. Since playing the festival in 2019, Big Thief have added two critically acclaimed albums to their total of five, combining profound, masterful lyrics with incisive and blissful folk instrumentation in the process.

The third headliner is English musician and producer Jon Hopkins, who’s combining of electronic music with contemporary classical music, resulting in transcendent musical beauty, will sure to have a spellbinding effect come August. The last, but certainly not least, headliner comes in the form of  neo soul and alternative R&B star Sampha, who will bring his unique musical prowess to the Brecon Beacons for all to witness.

As per BBC report, venues will have few rules to follow: “to limit groups to maximum of six people from six households, use one-way systems and follow ventilation guidelines” and also risk assessments done in line with hospitality performing guidance. 

A Welsh government spokesman commented that the pause of live events had been “the biggest shocks to our sense of well-being and the arts economy. We will continue to support our music and arts sectors in Wales through our cultural recovery, freelancer and economic resilience funds”.

According to a UK Music industry group, Welsh music tourism attracts 440 thousand people every year and it generates a great amount for the Welsh economy. 

A popular Green Man festival sold out their tickets in eighteen minutes despite the fact organisers explained it may not go ahead. Director Fiona Steward said: “The demand is definitely there. I have 5,000 people who rely on the festival [for work] who want it to go ahead. It will be an amazing moment if Green Man goes ahead in Wales – a fist in the air triumph for when he have had to give things up [over the past 14 months]“.

As for the nightclubs, they will for now remain closed. UK Hospitality chief executive Kate Nichols commented: “for many small venues it will simply be impossible for them to manage this with social distancing in place. And for our nightclubs, it’s just impossible to operate”. She added: “Until we get that final bit of the jigsaw – the social distancing lifted – to be able to allow these businesses to return to profitability, then we’re not at the end of the road yet for the sector.”

The festival is set to go on in late August, from 18th – 21st.

Green Man Festival is famous for it’s environmental (as the name suggests) and anti-corporate mentality; this has gained it somewhat of a cult following, as well as a few awards! For example, Green Man Festival won ‘Best Medium Sized Festival’ in 2010, ‘Grass Roots Festival 2012′ as well as being titled as one of the top 50 coolest British brands in 2012/13.

The festival has been around for 13 years, with their inaugurating festival being in 2003. Despite ultimately being a small festival, (comparatively at least!) Green Man Festival has still managed to host some big names, such as Van Morrison, The National, Bon Iver and Robert Plant.

The announcement of Laura Marling as a headliner shows their continued growth as well. Marling first burst onto the scene in 2008 with debut album ‘Alas, I Cannot Swim'; since then the singer-songwriter has had four (including ‘Alas, I Cannot Swim’) albums nominated for the Mercury Prize! There’s critically acclaimed, and then there’s Laura Marling.
