Sharing the news, Raye took to TikTok and Instagram: “I woke up feeling worried and overthinking my future then got nominated for two Grammys.”

Earlier in 2024, the 27-year-old singer-songwriter took home six awards at the Brit Awards, beating Blur, Adele, and Harry Styles.

Raye is celebrated for her raw and honest storytelling. Songs like ‘Escapism’ and ‘Hard Out Here‘ delve into themes of heartbreak, self-discovery, and struggles in the music industry. Her willingness to share personal experiences sets her apart in a heavily commercialized industry.

Raye’s journey with record labels has been marked by challenges. Originally signed to Polydor Records, the singer expressed frustration with the label over creative constraints and delays in releasing her music. Despite her talent and popularity, she revealed in 2021 that she had never been allowed to release a full-length album under the label. This led to a public fallout, and shortly afterwards, she parted ways with Polydor.

In 2022, Raye embarked on an independent career, reclaiming creative control over her music. This shift proved successful, as she released her long-awaited debut album, ‘My 21st Century Blues’ in 2023. The album and its lead single, ‘Escapism’, featuring 070 Shake, received critical and commercial acclaim, highlighting Raye’s resilience and artistry. Her journey exemplifies the challenges artists often face within the music industry and the empowerment that can come from independence.

Raye has postponed her much-anticipated second album following the unexpected theft of her car, which contained her songwriting notebooks. She shared this news with fans on Instagram during her 27th birthday alongside a photo of a birthday cake that read, “Sorry ur car got stolen.” As a result of this incident, Raye explained that the album’s release has been delayed.

The ‘Escapism’ singer has also announced she’s going to be headlining All Points East on August 23 in London’s Victoria Park. Tickets are now on sale from today.

The singer again touches on her love for theatre when faced with the question of what she loves about Studio 54, given the heavy disco influences heard in ‘Future Nostalgia’, “I love the spectacle of what was basically a theater production in a nightclub.”

It seems that a move into acting would the logical next step in Lipa’s world domination, last year the singer also mentioned to The Scotsman about her aspirations to break into TV by following in the footsteps of Lady Gaga. Whose star turn in the popular TV show American Horror Story saw the ‘Just Dance‘ singer play a Vampire Countess as well as a witch. “I would love to do that. I wouldn’t want do acting right now – I don’t think I’m quite there yet, I think I should focus on music – but if I was to try TV it would have to be something as crazy as a show like that.”

Lipa has had a lot to celebrate this year, topping off her success with a Grammy Award win, which saw the singer win Best Pop Vocal Album for ‘Future Nostalgia’. She was also nominated for the following award categories, Best Album, Best Record for ‘Don’t Start Now’, the Best song also for ‘Don’t Start Now’ as well as Pop Solo Performance for the hit. She was also nominated for Pop Duo/Group Performance for her 2020 collaboration with J Balvin, Bad Bunny and producer Tainy on track ‘Un Dia (One Day)’. Lipa took to Instagram to celebrate the win with her fans and showed the butterfly themed party that her boyfriend, Anwar Hadid, threw for her.

The singer’s Grammy performance was stuff made of legends, at the 63rd annual awards ceremony the star took to the stage which looked straight out of Studio 54, one of New York’s most notorious night clubs. The club was a cultural institution during the 70s and became an icon itself within the disco movement. The club’s patron list included the era’s most influential icons including, Cher, Grace Jones and Andy Warhol. With its famed exclusivity, the club remained the number one hot spot for the famous, the rich and the powerful. Studio 54’s most famous spectacle saw Bianca Jagger, a constant patron and wife of Rolling Stone Mick Jagger, ride into the club on a white horse. A stunt which the style icon has now denied, stating that the animal was already in the building, put there by the club’s owner in celebration of Jagger’s birthday.

The performance seemed to take on the theme of the singer’s Studio 2054 virtual concert from November last year, the virtual event was in support of the singer’s album ‘Future Nostalgia’. Live streamed from London’s Printworks on November 27th 2020, the virtual concert was put on due to the impact which COVID took on the singer’s original tour dates. The concert is now available to stream and also features a documentary entitled ‘The Story Behind the Show’, which gives fans an exclusive insight into the making of the event.

It is no surprise that the singer has used a continuous disco theme given how ‘Future Nostalgia’ screams the essence of disco and features tracks shinier than a disco ball. Lipa performed two of her tracks from her hit album, starting with ‘Levitation’ and then finishing her set with ‘Don’t Start Now’. Keeping in line with her fashion-conscious reputation, the singer donned not just one but two-stage outfits during her performance.

Lipa also posted on Instagram to further celebrate her win and expressed her appreciation for the over 7 million views of her Grammy performance on YouTube, making the video trend at number one.

The 54 year old Irish native has been working on this memoir for the past few years, stating that this is my story, as I remember it. Rememberings will be published via Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Books & Media.

Deb Brody, the vice president of the publishing company, stated that the memoir will include O’Connor’s struggles with illness and her fraught childhood. Brody continued that the book will also delve into her musical triumphs and the enduring power of song.

Brody continued to praise the coming memoir, describing t as remarkably candid and intensely personal with the overarching theme being about the famed musician leading a life both charmed and troubled.

While nothing compares to O’Connor’s mega hit single Nothing Compares 2U, she has had many musical accomplishments throughout her career including winning a Brit Award and a Grammy. She has released 10 full-length albums, the most recent arriving in 2014 titled I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss.

She recently released the track and music video for her political version of Trouble of the World, which was made available in the fall of 2020. The vinyl version will be released December 11, 2020, six months ahead of the memoir.

As well as her many musical achievements, O’Connor has also been the subject of controversy throughout her career. The most famous example of this is when the artist shocked the world, and the SNL producers, by ripping a picture of Pope John Paul II during her performance on the show. This was the climax of her disdain for politics and religion and caused backlash throughout the world.

O’Connor changed her named in 2018 to Shuhada Sadaqat when she converted to Islam, however she continues to use her Irish name in her music and now in this upcoming memoir. After converting, she made waves when she tweeted that white people and non-muslims were disgusting and she never wanted to speak to another again; a statement for which she later apologized.
