This year’s edition of Glastonbury will see a new stage introduced that is dedicated to south Asian talent called Arrivals, which will be part of the late-night Shangri-La area and has also been designed by a group of South Asian organisations.

We will also see a new design of Arcadia, which is called the dragonfly. The dragonfly will explore ideas around preventing climate change as well as being ‘a unifying symbol’. This new edition of Arcadia will see Dance music royalty, Fatboy Slim, opening the stage on Friday. As well as Scotland’s very own Barry Can’t Swim taking the stage on Saturday, followed by a big Sunday night for drum and bass heads, where Hedex will go back-to-back with Bou followed by Andy C closing the stage for the weekend.

Squeeze will open the Pyramid stage on Friday at noon led by the legendary song writing duo of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook. LCD Soundsystem, Little Simz and Burna Boy are among the other acts playing on the main stage.

The Other stage sees drill rapper Headie one perform on Friday followed by Bristol’s own, IDLES closing the first day. Mike Skinner’s, the Streets play the penultimate set on Saturday with Soft Play returning to Glastonbury under their new name ahead of their upcoming album, Heavy Jelly, which is set to be released next month.

Fontaines D.C. will headline The Park Stage in the Friday night as they follow straight after King Krule. South Korean dance titan, Peggy Gou, headlines the stage on the Saturday, with post-punk outfit, Psychadelic Porn Crumpets playing on Sunday and London Grammar will be playing the closing set for the stage.

Legends Haircut 100 will turn out at Avalon stage on the Friday with reggae metal band Skindred Playing the Headline set on the first day. Indie rock outfit Flyte will also play on Avalon on Saturday. Billy Bragg headlines Left Field on Friday and Punk rap duo, Bob Vylan close out the stage on the Saturday, so expect political themes to be at the centre of these performances.

This year seems to have been one of the most competitive years in terms of tickets with the festival’s organiser Emily Eavis saying that 2024 had the “highest percentage of ticket balances paid ever!” since payment plans were introduced, leaving less tickets for the final resale which happened on 21st April.

Roxy music declare the special guest who will be supporting their upcoming shows as well as releasing more tickets for their London show. Roxy the English band formed in 1970 by Bryan Ferry, have recently reunited, to fans surprise and are commemorating 50 years since the release of the bands debut album Roxy Music.

Roxy Music are one of the most influential groups within rock, so this return is well anticipated. The band members who will be present for these performances will be, vocalist Bryan Ferry, guitarist Phil Manzanera, saxophonist Andy McKay and drummer Paul Thompson.Original keyboardist Brian Eno who left the group in 1973 will not be included. Eno has previously refrained from taking part in previous reunions. Guitarist Phil Manzanera stated on one occasion that he could understand why Brian declines returning to perform together as he said “What would he do for the songs he wasn’t on? Just hang around? It would be a bit beneath him”. Eno back in 2012 corroborated this statement by expressing “It’s simply not in my temperament to look back”

The group announced today that extra tickets for the gig at the 02 London, have been added to allow more people to experience this reunion for themselves. Purchase for these tickets will be available here on Friday September 16th.Singer-songwriter Nilüer Yanya is the support act that has been announced to be opening all three UK shows. Yanya has previously supported Adele and Sam Fender throughout the summer.

Roxy Music is reissuing all eight of their studio albums this year and are rumoured to be taking on the legendary Glastonbury in 2023.

Last Friday a source from the Glastonbury Site eFestivals tweeted “I’m hearing that Roxy Music will do the legends” slot at next year’s Glastonbury. As well as this tweet Roxy have been listed as TBC (to be confirmed) on the eFestivals’ Glasto ’23 line up page. The legends set usually is reserved for legendary influential acts which tend to be highly anticipated acts. Glastonbury 2023 is due to take place during June 21 and June 25, tickets will go on sale next month.

Roxy is currently in the US wrapping up shows before coming to the UK to continue the tour. Manzanera expressed to Consequence last month “You never know when you get to the stage in one’s trajectory whether it’s going to be the last time- I’m gonna have the most fun possible” in response to addressing his feelings regarding the reunion.

The Legends slot at Glastonbury is largely reserved for highly influential artists and those with incredibly full back catalogues, both elements which Ross has acquired through her long career. The singer filled the set with her biggest hits such as “My Old Piano”, “Upside Down” and “I’m Coming Out” which quickly became the official theme for Glastonbury 2022. The former The Supremes bandmember also played hits from her time in the group including the hit “You Keep Me Hanging On”.

The singer balanced her set list with a collection of new material, audience members were treated to tracks off her newest album Thank You. The album was released in 2021 and marked the singer’s first studio album since the 2006 release I Love You, Thank You also signalled the singer’s first release of new material since 1999. Included in her set was the album’s title track and its second single “ If The World just Danced”.

The now infamous set also included the rousing anthem “Tomorrow”, during its performance Ross dedicated the song to the audience and her fans. The iconic artist expressed her gratitude to those in attendance and stated, “Everybody here and everybody watching on global television around the world, I want you to know I am so grateful for this life, so grateful to be here with you, I’m filled with thankfulness.”

This year’s Glastonbury also gave the BBC its highest recorded streams and views since the Broadcasting giant began to cover the festival, the statistics showed record-breaking figures for its Glastonbury coverage across its digital platforms. Since the festival was held in person in 2019, streams have soared over 15.8 million/116% via BBC iPlayer and 765,000/205% via BBC Sounds. The broadcasting company’s Glastonbury content was accessed via BBC Sounds over 2.3 million times and streamed via BBC iPlayer 34.1 million times, the high figure incorporates the 23 million streams of its live footage

Speaking on the record-breaking figures, Lora Clarke BBC Director of Music has provided the following statement, “The BBC provided the ultimate armchair experience of the world’s best-loved festival this weekend with a dedicated Glastonbury channel on BBC iPlayer, 6 Music’s All Day Glastonbury coverage, performances from the biggest artists on demand on BBC Sounds and over 35 hours of coverage across our TV channels. The party isn’t over yet, with over 90 sets and key tracks from the five filmed stages available to watch on BBC iPlayer – including Pyramid Stage performances in Ultra High Definition.”

Ahead of the band’s inaugural Glastonbury performance, frontman Psiuk spoke to Sky News concerning their appearance, “We want to share our culture and our music. And Eurovision was one point where we showed our Ukrainian music and want to spread it all over the world. We’re super happy to be here and we really want to impress everybody here. Right now, I feel a great support of all over the world. It’s great that people from here also support Ukraine. And we are very thankful to everybody, to each person who supports Ukraine.”

The band was initially birthed as a side project by the rap group Kalush, the Kalush Orchestra was formed in 2021 and became known for their unique blend of hip hop and folk. The group consists of core members rapper Oleh Psiuk, Ihor Didenchuck, MC KylymMen and Orchestra members Tymofii Muzycuck, Vitalii Duzhyk and vocalist Sasha Tab. They rose to international fame after winning this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, the band clinched first place with their winning song “Stefania”, the collective’s recent win marks a Eurovision hat trick for Ukraine.

Due to the conflict and raging war in Ukraine, certain members of the band were part of Ukraine’s resistance against Russia. Just weeks before the collective were crowned Eurovision winners, those enlisted in the resistance were fighting against Russia’s violent invasion. Since the confirmation of their Eurovision win, the band have become beacons of hope amid the chaos and “Stefania” has turned into an anthem of empowerment and courage.

Due to the band’s triumphant win, “Stefania” has also become a worldwide hit but is currently the band’s only known hit within the UK. In preparation for their Glastonbury performance, the band had to work quickly to produce a full set list and in the span of 10 days, a dozen songs were written and produced. The rapid writing and composing sessions paid off, armed with a set list of 13 songs the band took to the stage to win over Worthy Farm.

The group performed largely in Ukrainian with some lines and raps spoken in English, with an electric stage presence they were still able to connect to the 3,000-strong crowd. Equipped with an onstage translator and enough catchy hooks to fill an album, any form of a language barrier was soon broken and the collective quickly became a festival highlight. As per the request of the roaring crowd, the band closed their set with a reprise of “Stefania”. Whilst on stage, Psiuk took some time in-between songs to give an emotive speech concerning the conflict in Ukraine and told the audience “Just imagine it’s the last party of your life“.

Psiuk has spoken on the group’s debut appearance, “We are so excited to be playing at Glastonbury Festival alongside some of the biggest names in music from around the world. This is the perfect place for our first ever British performance and we hope it will be the start of many in the UK. We are very grateful for all the support we receive from the people of Britain, both for us and our country, and we are preparing a very special Ukrainian surprise for the fans at Glastonbury. What is it? You’ll soon see. See you there.“

Reports and rumours concerning a possible Spice Girls reunion have been circulating, and it has been reported that the Girl Power icons may play Glastonbury festival next year. The group have allegedly conducted meetings to discuss a potential 2023 world tour involving all members, Victoria Beckham is said to be included, despite her absence from the band since the 2012 London closing Olympic ceremony. After a series of shows, the speculated world tour will conclude with an appearance on the iconic Pyramid stage.

A source has spoken to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column concerning the reports, “There have been bumps in the road, particularly where Geri is concerned, but the plan is still that the girls’ world tour will go ahead next year. The idea is that it will kick off in 2023, and finish at Glastonbury. Victoria has previously said that she would perform with them at the festival. So that would be the perfect way to round off the tour.”

The group’s commitment to the upcoming Platinum jubilee concert in celebration of Queen Elizabeth has also been discussed, reportedly the legendary girl group have planned engagements and responsibilities which prevent them from appearing. Speaking on the possibility of an appearance, bandmember Mel C has given the following statement, “You’re going to need to ask Geri about that one.”

The Sun’s source has also discussed the famed quintet’s possible performance at the June event, “The Spice Girls will definitely not be performing at the Queen’s Jubilee, though that is not just down to Geri, as Mel hinted initially. They are all working on different ¬projects, and when they sat down to look at the logistics they decided there was not enough time to make it work. They just would have not been able to squeeze in the rehearsal time they needed for the concert. However, that isn’t to say that everybody was happy with that ¬outcome. Mel B and Emma, in ¬particular, seemed very ¬disappointed to be saying no. It would have been a real ¬honour, and that was not lost on them.”

Often cited as the new Beatles, the Spice Girls have remained a cultural sensation and their music canonised for future generations to enjoy. After over two decades since their debut album, the group have teased the release of a legendary lost track. Within a social media post in celebration of International Women’s Day, lyrics from the track “W.O.M.A.N” were included within the message. During a conversation with The Spice Girls’ biographer David Sinclair, cowriter Biff Stannard discussed the lost song, Stannard stated, “I thought that song was really interesting lyrically, because it was making the progression from girls to women, which was something I thought it was time for them to do. They needed something to suggest that they were still the same group of friends, but they were gaining more maturity.”

The song’s existence was first brought into reality twenty-three years ago during the Christmas in Spiceworld tour; the group promised the song would be included on their new album Forever released in 2000. But when the album was released, fans were disappointed to see that the song was not included within the track list, as time passed the track was largely forgotten by the band members. With the widespread share of the cryptic post, fans have speculated whether it served as a breadcrumb to further updates concerning new material.

The two artists will join Billie Eilish and Diana Ross as headlining acts for the iconic event. Ross and McCartney were both billed to play at the 2020 event, but due to COVID-19 related restrictions the festival was cancelled. The legendary performers are sure to return with a bang this year. This year will also mark a return to the traditional festival format, as Glastonbury has not been held in its full capacity since 2019. Glastonbury took to Twitter to announce the two new headlining acts, the post also included the first line up poster for this year’s event.

Covid-19, as we know, has already had a devastating impact on the music industry. So, it”s little surprise that the organizers of Glastonbury have canceled the 2020 run. It isn’t the first casualty of the epidemic within the live music scene. However, it will stand as one of the biggest.

Worse still, is the fact that this year, Glastonbury would have been celebrating its 50th anniversary. It’s a momentous milestone for a festival that has welcomed the likes of Kanye West, Primal Scream, Orbital, Oasis, and David Bowie over the years. Sadly, it seems, 2020’s edition isn’t one for the history books.

Due to headline the fiftieth anniversary, Glastonbury was Taylor Swift, Paul McCartney, and Kendrick Lamar. Set to run from 24-28 June, the news came via Twitter today that the Worthy Farm gig would no longer go ahead.

Michael and Emily Eavis made a statement on Twitter, saying: “We are so sorry to announce this, but we are going to have to cancel Glastonbury 2020. Tickets for this year will roll over to next year. Full statement below and on our website. Michael & Emily.”

Read below via Twitter for the statement in its entirety.

A more thorough statement via Twitter was released soon after. It began with: “We are so sorry to announce this, but Glastonbury 2020 will have to be cancelled, and this will be an enforced fallow year for the festival.

In what they describe as “times of such unprecedented uncertainty”, the organizers declared that the decision to cancel was their “only viable option.”

However, on a somewhat brighter note, the statement does affirm that ticket holders can roll over their £50 deposit into next year’s concert, or have it refunded.

Further information for accommodation, coach packages, and local Sunday tickets are expected “in the coming days.”

They were performing the title track from their latest album, ‘Everything Else Has Gone Wrong’, with Clara Amfo. A fan asked them, “Glastonbury please, any comments?”, to which they said they were “working on it.”

If the hints become reality, it’ll be Bombay Bicycle Club’s fifth time at the iconic Worthy Farm event. Glastonbury 2020 is taking place from June 24-28.

Taylor Swift was recently announced as a headliner, including Paul McCartney and Diana Ross who fills the Sunday legends slot.

The Guardian, however, awarded the Crouch End band’s latest album two out of five stars. It reads: “BBC’s fifth album is a disappointment: crowded, ill-written and lacking conviction, it sounds like what it will swiftly become: an ad soundtrack”.

It has been 12 years since the The Killers last headlined Glastonbury festival, which went down in Glasto history as a bit of a disaster, and left fans and fezzy go-ers feeling deflated. This year they return with a Saturday headline slot on the renowned Pyramid Stage, planning to right the wrongs from their 2007 ‘hiccup’.

It is safe to say that this years Glasto has spirits soaring after the gap Worthy Farm decided to take in their running of the festival; the headliners are more anticipated than ever, and the sun has got thousands of people in extremely high spirits. The Killers plan to take full advantage of their return, and prove to Glasto that they are more than their previous headline set.

Way back then, The Killers lost the battle with technology whilst performing. Brand new sound restrictions had them dazed and confused when their levels seemed exceedingly low as they lost the normally booming energy of the crowd. Frontman Brandon Flowers speaks about this in an interview with NME, “I can feel it physically and I can tell when the volume is not where it should be, because I really thrive on it”.

Flowers is one of the few remaining artists who does not use earpieces during sets, so he can hear the crowd as anybody else would be able to. Due to the unbeknown sound issues, anybody beyond the first twenty rows from the stage was left feeling underwhelmed, after having anticipated a usual blistering and electric Killers set.

Brandon went on to tell NME that he “always wanted to go back. I feel like we’re ready”. Despite only having being half the band they were back in 2007 (two members have retired from touring with the band), The Killers plan to put poetry back in motion, and rightfully reclaim their reputation in rock and roll headliners.

The band have came a very long way since their first ever appearance at Worthy Farm, when they took ‘Mr Brightside’ to the Jon Peel stage with the hope of creating the career that they can now say with pride that they have paved for themselves. After years of providing fans with anthem after anthem, they finally have their well deserved chance to Glastonbury 2019. We wish them luck here at MXDWN!
