Pop-punk-emo legends My Chemical Romance, have finally released their first new single since 2014’s spiritual wave goodbye, ‘Fake Your Death’. The 6-minute monster takes everything you’d anticipate from a traditional MCR tune – unifying shouts from Gerard Way, rowdy guitars, a little teenage angst etc. – but the track also has taken its time to seemingly develop and mature into something one could almost call prog? You can listen to ‘The Foundations of Decay’ below.

It’s been almost 10 years since My Chemical Romance played their final show before announcing their indefinite hiatus. If 2007 was the year that cemented the world’s unanimous emo phase, then 2013 – unfortunately – must be the year that ended it. MCR had gone, Paramore had already begun to move into a more Art-Pop style, and even Panic! At the Disco had started to become more reminiscent of The Killers than anything else. It was time to drop the dark and brooding eyeliner and black nails, and make way for pop-punk! It’s 2013, Fall Out Boy are back! So now, put on your eyeliner and black nails, but this time… enjoy yourself a little! But, I think, in today’s day and age, in today’s climate… no one wants to listen to All Time Low. People want to feel a little more unified in the fact that things may not exactly be going to plan. Thus, the emo renaissance. Highlighted perfectly in the lineup for the now famous When We Were Young Festival lineup.

We were never really clear as to whether or not MCR would be releasing any new music. But a little snippet of instrumental material over the band’s reunion teaser back at the start on 2020 gave us all a little hope for something on the horizon. Way revealed in an interview last year that he was working on something new, but for a solo project? New MCR? We didn’t know. “What’s been working lately is sitting with [engineer] Doug [McKean], working on the music, and then I’ll just go over to my office — which used to be Marion Peck’s painting studio, and I love that room — and I will sit while Doug mixes, tweaks, edits, programs more drums . . . I’ll literally sit there and I will write as close as possible to what I think are gonna be either the final lyrics, or at least what I’m comfortable singing at that moment.”

MCR’s tour will be beginning imminently, at this point the UK has managed to accumulate 9 dates for our leg of the tour. Admittedly, they’re all a little obtuse… but that could be considered a good thing. Check out here for more details. See the full list of tour dates below.

My Chemical Romance’s guitarist Frank Iero has finally announced the name of his new solo project, after teasing us with hints of a new project a few months ago on his Instagram page. Frank is to become Frank Iero and the Future Violents. Guitarist Iero who was active within My Chemical Romance, an American rock band from Newark, New jersey from 2001 to 2013, has already launched two solo projects previously.

The musician has already released albums under the names frnkiero and the cellabration, followed by Frank Iero And The Patience, who played alongside The 1975 in his native New Jersey at the Shadow of the City in 2016. Iero made the announcement via his instagram profile, in the video clip he reveals his new artistic name by writing it on a piece of paper. There is a hint at a Spring release date for new music in the caption: hashtag FIATFV – Spring 2019 chapter 3.

Fans took to his page to express their excitement with one fan literally unable to contain themselves stating “IM SCREAMING”, with many other fans begging Frank to go on tour and visit their hometown. Back in August 2018 Frank posted a black and white photograph of 4 people wearing the mask of a balding older man with simply “first band photo (no filter) #FIATV”. Now we know what it means!

Similarly ex My Chemical Romance’s frontman Gerard Way has also been working on his own solo projects. In 2017 he released two singles “Into The Cave We Wander” and “Pogi’s Cavern” for Record Store Day an event running for over a decade celebrating the music industry and participating stores. In 2018 we heard ‘Getting Down The Germs” and “Baby You’re A Haunted House” which being launched towards the end of 2018 gives fans an inkling that although not yet officially announced, a new album could be on its way from Way! 2019 is set to be a good year for fans of My Chemical Romance and its ex bandmates.

The news came about as earlier this year the 37-year old “Emo”-punk icon confirmed a deal signing between Warner Brothers and was in the midst of completing his own solo album.

His former new jersey based band split in 2013 after a 12 year stretch creating four studio albums, of which ‘Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge’ produced their hit single “I’m Not Okay” and "Helena" which launched the band into the spotlight in 2004.

Shortly after their breakup in 2013, Gerard Way produced several solo tracks on a Soundcloud account, rebranding and distancing himself from his previous band. It appears this summer will be the only time fans of Gerard or indeed My Chemical Romance can still celebrate his work, after their last album was released in March of this year entitled “May Death Never Stop You: The Greatest Hits 2001-2013”.

Way will be playing alongside several fantastic acts this summer, such as Queens of the Stone Age, Vampire Weekend, Jimmy Eat World, Arctic Monkeys, The Hives, and Blink 182 - certainly a show not to be missed.

Tickets for the Reading and Leeds festivals are on sale now.
