The band – fronted by Gene Gallagher with Ben Taylor on guitar and Jack Schiavo on bass – came together by chance in the summer of 2023. What began as an encounter quickly grew into a shared mission: to revive the harder edge of rock music.

“It was a genuine passion and drive to bring back rock music again,” Taylor told NME. “Bands have been in the culture lately, but it was indie rock for a long time. Then it plateaued into an almost ‘pop’ band-y culture. We wanted to bring something back.”

That ethos has driven Villanelle’s rapid rise on the live circuit. Despite not releasing any music to date, the trio capped off 2023 with a sold-out UK headline tour on word-of-mouth alone. Earlier last year, they secured a coveted slot supporting Gene’s father Liam Gallagher on his ‘Definitely Maybe’ 30th anniversary shows.

Now, Villanelle are ready to introduce their sound to the world with ‘Hinge’. Described by the band as a ferocious collision of lo-fi grunge and arena-ready swagger, the track nods to the raw energy of Nirvana while channelling punk rock urgency.

“It’s just all heavy guitars,” Gallagher explained. “That’s my favourite tone of any song: just really chuggy chords and really fucking distorted. All my favourite songs are like that – very punk rock. ‘Hinge’is a proper right-hook of a song.”

The single’s arrival marks a significant milestone for the group, who have so far relied on live shows to build their reputation. With a UK tour announcement set to coincide with the release, Villanelle are poised to translate their live energy into a new chapter defined by original material.

As anticipation builds, ‘Hinge’ will serve as the first glimpse into what Villanelle have been crafting behind the scenes – a band intent on bringing back grit, volume and attitude to the UK rock landscape.

‘Hinge’is released Wednesday, September 10, with details of Villanelle’s forthcoming UK tour also due the same day. The single can be preordered here. Based on the anticipation of the band so far, it seems Villanelle have an exciting musical career ahead and fans should stay tuned for potential future releases.

The news broke late last month – as Oasis were in the midst of five sold-out nights at Wembley Stadium – that the 59-year-old eldest brother had been charged and will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on August 28th. 

Mr Gallagher has been alleged to have committed multiple offences between 2022 and 2024 which include rape, sexual assault, controlling and coercive behaviour, intentional strangulation, threats to kill, and assault causing actual bodily harm.

The authorities said in a statement at the time of the charge: “The offences are reported to have taken place between 2022 and 2024. The charges follow an investigation which commenced in 2024. A woman is being supported by specially trained officers.”

Gallagher strongly denied the allegations via a statement through his lawyers: “Mr Gallagher has consistently engaged with the police throughout their investigation and always strongly denied the allegations made against him. He looks forward to clearing his name, but as there are now ongoing legal proceedings, our client is unable to comment further.”

Gallagher, who lives in East Finchley in London, pursued a career in photography and DJ-ing as his brothers became world-renowned stars. He has provided DJ sets to many Liam Gallagher afterparties in the past and was due to DJ at The Grand Social in Dublin after Oasis perform in the city this coming weekend.

However, according to the Irish Independent, the oldest Gallagher will no longer appear at the event. The venue confirmed to the publication that “Mani from The Stone Roses will DJ on Saturday night and Alan McGee will DJ on Sunday night.”

Oasis will continue their record-breaking tour as they perform their last date at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh tonight (August 12) before heading for two sold-out gigs at Dublin’s Croke Park this weekend (August 16 and 17).

The Gallagher brothers will then embark on a sold-out tour throughout North America, where they will be supported by Cage The Elephant, before returning to the UK for two more sold-out nights at Wembley Stadium in September.

Paul Gallagher is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on August 28 where he will enter a plea and face the multiple charges he has been accused of.

At the opening gig, on July 4 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, hundreds of fan who were unable to get tickets headed to a nearby hill to watch the homecoming shows. The hill which has been dubbed ‘Gallagher Hill’ – is situated just outside the venue perimeter – allowing fans a perfect view of the large screens at the stadium. The spot became notorious among fans with it appearing as a tourist attraction with five-star ‘biblical’ reviews on Google Maps.

For the following shows on July 16,19 and 20, the Manchester City Council installed temporary green fencing to ‘dissuade people from gathering there’ and safeguard the park’s environment. Councillor John Hacking said of this action that “The steps being taken ahead of the next concert regretfully mean the distant view of the large screens behind the event stage will no longer be there”. Despite the efforts from the council, the eager fans have found new ways to see the Gallagher brothers at their highly anticipated reunion concert. In footage shared from the concert last night – July 16 – hundreds of fans were spotted climbing fences and trees in an attempt to see the screens from the venue. The police were called to the venue in an attempt to manage these security breaches with reports indicating that several arrests were made.

One particularly inventive fan reportedly gained entry disguised as a litter picker – complete with a hi-vis vest and bin bag – and later shared his success on social media.

The Oasis Live ’25 Tour began on July 4 in Cardiff and is scheduled to end with a closing performance at Estadio do Morumbi in Sao Paulo, Brazil on November 23 2009. The former Oasis star announced news of the release on his Instagram, in which he posted a picture of the artwork and a snippet of the single itself, which was filled with heart-warming textures and brass harmonies. “All You’re Dreaming Of’ is an instant classic that is perfect for this time of year.” Gallagher said in a statement. “Considering the year that we’ve all had, I hope this brings back some much-needed love and hope. Bing Crosby would have been proud.”

The artist seems to be aiming for the single to be the Christmas number 1, also announcing that the single would also be released on vinyl, which will be available for purchase from the 18^th December. “Who knows, but it’s gonna be rite up there you gotta be in it to win it,” Gallagher tweeted when asked if he believed the release top the charts by Christmas. However, the artist also disclosed that the release is a standalone track, claiming that the follow-up album to his 2019 ‘Why Me? Why Not’ is ‘nowhere near done.’

The news of the release follows Gallagher’s previous announcement of his Down By The River Thames livestream, which is set to air exclusively on MelodyVR app on the 5^th December. The show will be filmed from a barge on the River Thames, and promises to showcase some of Gallagher’s previous Oasis hits, as well as his current music. “To all my brothers and sisters around the world. I’m performing a one-off celestial live performance for you to stream, ‘Down By The River Thames’, on 5th December 2020,” the artist tweeted. “I’ll be performing tracks from my two number 1 solo albums as well as some stone-cold Oasis classics, some of which you haven’t heard me sing for a long, long time. C’mon you know. LG x”
