Aplin was in the midst of the tour when Covid-19 broke out in the UK. She posted on 13th March with a statement that read “I’m so sorry to do this but my team and I have made the difficult decision to reschedule the remaining dates of my UK tour,” and went on to explain “I personally feel it would be irresponsible of me to bring crowds together at this time.”

This is the last thing I want to do and I haven’t taken this decision lightly. I personally feel it would be irresponsible of me to bring crowds together at this time. The health of my band and crew, and my fans is my number 1 priority, along with my own health concerns for myself and my family. I was loving this tour and I promise that the rescheduled dates will be amazing. All tickets purchased will remain valid for the rescheduled shows. Again, I am really sorry to do this. I just feel that it is the right decision at this time. I thank all my promoters, reps, venues and staff 13 Artists and my own band and crew for being so understanding at a time really difficult and uncertain for all of you. The singer-songwriter has already arranged dates for later in the year, and all tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled shows. She ended her announcement by asking fans to “stay safe”. Some fans were upset at the short notice cancellation of shows, but were ultimately understanding given the circumstances.

There has been no information regarding refunds should ticket-holders want them, but it is likely that they would need to get in touch with the company they purchased from. Many fans have also asked if they can still buy merchandise despite the cancellation of the original dates. Aplin expressed her gratitudes on Instagram, saying “this fills me with joy as we put so much effort into making sure this merch was human and earth friendly!”

Although she cannot perform live, Aplin took part in Lewis Watson’s online festival along with other artists including Dodie, Nina Nesbitt, and Orla Gartland. She has also released stripped back versions of songs from her latest album ‘Dear Happy’. So far, reworked versions of both ‘Strange’ and ‘My Mistake’ have been released, as well as the live versions of more songs on YouTube.

Aplin began her career posting cover videos on YouTube, but her popularity truly took off in 2012 when she recorded the John Lewis Christmas advert, covering ‘The Power of Love’ originally by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Her album ‘Dear Happy’ came out in January 2020 and was named Radio 2’s ‘Album of the Week’, also reaching number 24 on the UK Albums Chart.

At the time of writing, the ‘Dear Happy’ European tour dates are still in place, but it is highly likely that they will be cancelled imminently, as they are planned to take place in April. The ‘Miss You 2′ music video has gained over 50,000 views and sends an empowering message to viewers and listeners. In the video, we see partners arguing, cheating, and making up with each other in moody scenes. Not only is the collaboration by two female artists, of which the singer believes there should be more of, but the video is representative without being dramatic. Fans have been having fun guessing at what the video concept is.

Aplin said “I’ve always wanted to work with Nina, and it’s so nice to have a female duet because I hate that the first thing people say is: ‘What guy will we get on this?’ “. Clearly the fans want more female collaborations as well, since the track has almost reached 3 million streams. The 27-year-old has always been vocal about equal opportunity and representation, and how fitting that many popular award shows have received backlash in 2020 for allowing female creators to be overlooked – the BRIT Awards, for example.

‘Dear Happy’ was named Radio 2’s ‘Album of the Week’ last week, and has received lots of praise from all listeners. So much praise, that Aplin will be touring across the UK, Ireland and Europe through March and April. The UK & Ireland segment of the tour will include a sold out show in Glasgow, a gig at Shepherds Bush Empire in London, and one in Dublin. In the European tour segment, six dates and six venues will be played; these include Berlin, Cologne, and Paris.

Long-time friend to Aplin, Nina Nesbitt is an accomplished artist in her own right, with two top 40 singles and 2 successful studio albums. But when the two of them worked together, they both reached new heights.

Aplin began her career posting cover videos on YouTube, but her popularity truly took off in 2012 when she recorded the John Lewis Christmas advert, covering ‘The Power of Love’ originally by Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

Nesbitt was featured on the John Lewis advert a year later, in 2013, singing a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Don’t Stop’. Prior to the release of “Miss You 2″, both songstresses teased the track on each of their social media with a cryptic image of themselves captioned with the lyrics from the song. And on January 2, the track was surface everywhere for streaming.

Regarding the new version of “Miss You”, Nesbitt talked to Forbes and expressed her happiness and excitement to work on the song with Aplin: “I’m so excited to be featuring on Gabrielle’s new version of “Miss You,”” said Nesbitt. “We have known each other for a long time and one of my first ever gigs was supporting her at a gig in 2011. I’ve always been a big fan of her work and I’m so happy we’ve finally had the chance to collaborate.”

Meanwhile, Aplin also shared the same feeling to have Nesbitt on the reworked version: “I’m so happy to have Nina on “Miss You,”” told Aplin. “We came through as artists around the same time. We have been of both sides of an ever-changing industry and both decided to independently take control of our careers and success. The initial release of “Miss You” feels like the start of that for me, and I’m thrilled that Nina has added her voice to a new version of one of my favourite songs of mine.”

Dear Happy is Aplin’s first full-length record since 2015’s sophomore album Light Up the Dark. During the gap between the two albums, the “Power of Love” hitmaker released two EPs—Miss You (2016) and Avalon (2017)—both of which are Aplin’s departure from her signature folk sound that made her become well known from singles off her debut album English Rain in 2013, such as “Please Don’t Say You Love Me“.

In the meantime, Nesbitt just wrapped up the promotion and tour of her second studio album The Sun Will Come Up, the Seasons Will Change. The album hit number 21 on UK Albums Chart with singles like “Somebody Special” and “Loyal to Me“.

Back to Aplin, she will embark on the Dear Happy Tour in support of her new album in March. The 27-year-old English singer will play a 10-date show across the UK, with one gig in Dublin. Tickets are available now via Ticketmaster. Check out the dates below.

Aplin’s latest release, ‘Magic’, has been described as “a beautiful pop song, which features bright electronics and chiming percussion as Gabrielle’s dreamy vocals reflect the benefits of cherished close relationships.”

Speaking about her new track, ‘Magic’, Aplin said: “I’m really excited to share this song with everyone. ‘Magic’ is about appreciating that one person in your life who makes the mundane everyday life stuff magical. It’s about how no one else has to see that magic. And it’s about giving the finger to that constant pressure to be defining our relationships online.”

The new song is taken from Aplin’s forthcoming third album, ‘Dear Happy’, which is an “upbeat pop record that chronicles Aplin’s life, and the experiences and cultures she has been inspired by whilst touring and travelling the world over the past couple of years.” The upcoming album also features previously released tracks ‘Like You Say You Do’, ‘Losing Me’, ‘Kintsugi’, ‘Nothing Really Matters’, and ‘My Mistake’.

The album, ‘Dear Happy’, is being released through a major new partnership between AWAL and Aplin’s own record label Never Fade Records, which sees her develop and support both new and established artists.

The announcement comes after it was revealed that Aplin would be hitting the road in a headline tour, in support of her new album, ‘Dear Happy’. The 12-date headline tour will see Aplin perform across the UK and Ireland, in March 2020. Aplin will kick start her headline tour, in Glasgow, on March 4, 2020, then she’ll head to Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester, Belfast, Dublin, Leeds, Cardiff, Nottingham, Brighton, and London before concluding, in Bristol, on March 18, 2020.  Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here.

Speaking about the new single, ‘Losing Me’, Gabrielle said; “‘Losing Me’ is about what you wish you could hear when you’re having a particularly hard time, while also being that voice to someone else who needs it. It’s about remaining connected when there is so much in modern life that can give the illusion of oneness whilst making us feel more alone.

“I’ve been a huge fan of JP Cooper for years and I’m so happy he agreed to be on this song with me. I saw JP play an acoustic set at a festival three years ago I’ve wanted to work with him ever since.”

Aplin’s latest single, ‘Losing Me’, has been taken from her forthcoming third album, which is due for release early next year. Gabrielle Aplin’s upcoming album follows the recent release of her singles ‘Nothing Really Matters’ and ‘My Mistake’.

Meanwhile, speaking about the also, JP Cooper, said; “All I can say is Gabrielle Aplin is the real deal. I’ve thought this for a long time, so when she came to me with this song I was more than happy to get involved. It’s a beautiful track that touches on a love that I think we all wish we could have. She deserves to be huge, I hope everybody enjoys this song as much as I do.”

The single, ‘Losing Me’, marks an a new beginning for Aplin, who is set to release her brand new album, which features some of her most personal lyrics to-date alongside a wide range of music and influences, which have not been heard from her before. 2019 has been a busy year for Aplin, as it has seen her become an even more prominent figure in promoting positivity and wellbeing for the wider world. Aplin is a keen advocate for mental health awareness, animal rights and the benefits of a vegan lifestyle, which is highlighted in her vegan cooking series Food With Friends. Following Aplin’s support for OXFAM, at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, where she donated her stage clothes to the charity, she is now working on an exciting new project in conjunction with the charity.
