Following a social media campaign of teasers through the start of the year, Foo Fighters have finally given in and revealed a new song from their upcoming 12th studio album. The record ‘Your Favorite Toy’ will be coming out in April, with its title track giving a taste of things to come.

The US rock heroes have had a turbulent time in the 2020’s so far. Following long-time drummer Taylor Hawkins’ sudden death in 2022, they channeled their grief into their massive stadium tribute concerts to his life, before releasing 11th album ‘But Here We Are’ in 2023. More public drama ensued with frontman Dave Grohl’s confession to fathering a child in an extra-marital affair, and the unceremonious sacking of permanent drumming appointment Josh Freese. However since the recruitment of current drummer Ilan Rubin, the ship has been steadied and the band are back with fire in their bellies.

In October last year, Foo Fighters released their first single with Rubin, ‘Asking For A Friend’, a thumping hard rock track begging to be played in arenas and stadiums around the world. When compared to their earlier 2025 single, the more laid-back power ballad ‘Today’s Song’, ‘Asking For A Friend’ is a triumphant return to a classic sound for the band. According to NME, at shows on their Australian tour this January, Grohl announced the album was complete and would be releasing before his next birthday, the 14th of January 2027.

Over the first two weeks of February, the band posted several cryptic updates to their social media accounts, the first with a caption “This is just a test.” and the second reading “Of a broken broadcast system.” Both featured a jumble of seconds-long snippets of music, with fans quickly identifying them as multiple unreleased songs. The overarching sound of the clips was bouncing with energy, and very heavy by modern Foo Fighters standards.

The news of ‘Your Favorite Toy’ broke earlier this afternoon, alongside the single. Later in the day, Apple Music shared an interview with Grohl speaking to DJ Zane Lowe about the journey to find the sound of the album. He says they looked for “whatever is going to make us jump around, and smile, and scream”, which they found in the title track’s writing. Talking about the single ‘Your Favorite Toy’, he says “This particular song was literally the springboard for the rest of the record. When we hit this, it’s like we hit a little vein of gold, and we were like “that’s the feeling, that’s the vibe, that’s the energy.””

‘Your Favorite Toy’ certainly has the jumpy vibe that inspired them, a noisy, stompy anthem, featuring the band’s familiar three-guitar assault and the return of Grohl’s snarling screams. Clocking in at under 3 minutes, this is Foo Fighters at their loudest and arguably best.

Foo Fighters make their live return to British shores with two sold-out dates at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium on the 25th and 27th of June. In the announcement they revealed pre-order links for album ‘Your Favorite Toy’ , launching on the 24th of April, as well as the designs for the physical version showing off the full track list. So far only ‘Asking For A Friend’ and ‘Your Favorite Toy’ have released, but here’s the whole running order:

As well as supporting the Foo Fighters, Amyl and the Sniffers have just announced a bunch of UK headline shows, along with support from Lambrini Girls.

It’s safe to say that Amyl and the Sniffers have an exciting summer planned. The punks, who hail from Australia, were already set to support the revered Foo Fighters in several stadiums across the pond, and now they have added a bunch of headline shows of their own with support coming from the always incredible Lambrini Girls. (announcing their slot, LG simply wrote: “Touring North America this summer supporting @amylandthesniffers yum yum handburger time”).

Amyl and the Sniffers will be joining Dave Grohl and co. at various dates throughout July and August in New York, Boston, Hershey and Los Angeles, and around those shows, you can also catch them everywhere from Detroit to San Diego.

Amyl and the Sniffers are an Australian pub rock and punk rock band based in Melbourne, consisting of vocalist Amy Taylor, drummer Bryce Wilson, guitarist Declan Martens, and bassist Gus Romer. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2019, their self-titled debut record won the Best Rock Album category.

This caption was taken from The Lambrini Girls Bandcamp: ‘Imagine your nan is in the boot of your car with a croissant in her mouth and hears bikini kill for the first time. That could be you. It will never be us as we are not bikini kill and we are not your nan. We are Lambrini Girls. Bon appetite xoxox’

If you are a fan of fast-paced, female-fronted punk rock, then this US tour is the tour for you.

O2 Academy Brixton has announced it is officially reopening after the fatal crush in December 2022 which led the venue to close down for more than 16 months. Security guard Gaby Hutchinson, 23, and Rebecca Ikumelo, 33, were tragically killed, with a third member of the public left in critical condition when fans without tickets forced their way into a show by Afrobeats artist Asake on December 15th. Over 1,000 fans were reported to be waiting outside the venue at the time, with crowds eventually pushing the doors open.

A series of gigs have been announced next month to mark its long-awaited reopening, with its first performances taking place on Friday April 19, except it will feature tribute acts as opposed to famous bands. Nirvana UK will pay homage to the 90s grunge band, with a tongue-and-cheek The Smyths following suit. On the following Friday, April 26, two more tribute acts will take to the stage, including Definitely Might Be, inspired by Oasis, and UK Foo Fighters. Tickets for both shows will go on sale this Friday (March 8) at 9am GMT. You can purchase them here.

English quintet Editors will be the first major band to headline the venue, and are set to perform on May 2, with special guests yet to be confirmed. The band took to social media today (March 4) to showcase the gig after wrapping up their UK tour yesterday, commenting: “We’re extremely excited to return to @o2academybrix in London on May 2nd!”

In an unexpected announcement, US rock band The Black Keys have also revealed they will be playing the South London venue in a two-night residency on Tuesday 7 May and Wednesday 8 May.

The future of the legendary music venue remained uncertain for the best part of a year and a half after Lambeth Council suspended its license, with the Metropolitan Police reportedly advocating for the beloved music spot to close its doors permanently. An online petition was launched after the venue confirmed its closure, with the hope that the decision would be overturned. A plethora of artists and industry professionals also spoke out, condemning the possibility that it could be closed for good.

In December 2023, it was declared that the venue would be allowed to retain its license and reopen, providing the building and its organisers can meet more than 77 “robust” safety rules and conditions. Brixton Academy has allegedly spent £1.2 million on maintenance and improvements last year, including stronger doors, a more efficient queuing system and a more secure ticketing process, according to Brixton Academy’s owners, Academy Music Group (AMG).

Interior. CREDIT: AMG.

“We continue to be devastated by the events of last December,” AMG’s statement said. “Our heartfelt condolences remain with the family and friends of Rebecca Ikumelo and Gaby Hutchinson. What happened was and is a tragedy and we are committed to ensuring that it can never be repeated.”

“Over the past nine months, the venue’s importance to the local community and the live music scene in the UK has been made clear. Academy Music Group is determined to learn all appropriate lessons from the night of December 15 2022. As the Licensing Sub Committee knows, the venue must implement all the new conditions and will reopen at first with test events. The commitment we give to work in close partnership with all the responsible authorities as we reopen is a serious and sincere one.”

The building first opened in 1929 as a cinema and boasted sleek Art Deco interior and a theatrical-style stage framed by its famous arch, which was modelled on the Rialto Bridge in Venice. In July 1972 it reopened as a disco, rebranded again throughout the 80s and 90s, and has held enormous cultural significance ever since, attracting some of the world’s greatest and most renowned acts, including Amy Winehouse, The Clash, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones.

With a string of exciting new headline shows set to take place over the coming months, this hopefully marks a new chapter and era for a venue that has been clouded by such a devastating event.

Glastonbury have apologised for the late announcement as prospective ticket buyers were given minimal notice about the change in dates.

Foo Fighters have announced their 2024 UK stadium tour, dubbed the Everything or Nothing at All tour.

The UK shows are set to take place across June of 2024, with them visiting London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Cardiff along the way.

The band took to Twitter to share a promotional tour video to get the UK fans hyped for the shows to come, with tickets already being on sale.

This tour follows their explosive Glastonbury performance which was met with overwhelmingly positive reviews. In a set that the Guardian declared “recaptured their very essence,” frontman Dave Grohl promised to return to the UK, and as highlighted in a tour press release, he is “making good” on this promise. Though Grohl may have humbly travelled to Glastonbury by train, his performance solidified him as the star that he is.

Taking to Twitter once again, the Foo Fighters shared another UK tour-related video with the message “We’re coming back next year for a whole fucking tour so you can come back and see us then.”

The Everything or Nothing at All tour will see the band’s longest stretch in the UK since the release of their eleventh studio album in June 2023, But Here We Are. Met with critical aclaim, But Here We Are was their first album release since the death of their longtime drummer, Taylor Hawkins.

The support acts for the tour have already been announced, with the Foo Fighters being joined by Wet Leg, Hot Milk, Courtney Barnett, Honeyblood and Shame.

Foo fighters performed on Friday 23 June on the pyramid stage as a surprise to Glastonbury fans. A band called ‘The ChurnUps’ were scheduled to play on the pyramid stage at 6.15pm, with Glastonbury fans confused as no band under this name existed. There was plenty of speculation over the past few weeks, as the Foo Fighters were rumoured to be playing a surprise set at the festival. This was all due to a statement they released earlier this month. The statement wrote ‘’It feels good to see you, churning up these emotions together.’’ Bands such as Tenacious D, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Pulp were among those who were also rumoured to be playing within the mystery ‘The ChurnUps’ set.

The band confirmed the news they was at Glastonbury festival prior to their surprise set on stage, posting a picture to their Instagram of a bunch of flags, with one saying ‘’CHURN IT UP.’’ The picture was captioned ‘#Glastonbury2023.

The Foo Fighters were welcomed to the stage by a sound wave of cheers. As Dave Grohl spoke to the crowd, he said, ‘’You guys fucking knew it was us this whole time, didn’t you? We’re happy to see you guys. It’s nice to see you guys after all this time.” During their performance, Dave Grohl brought his daughter, Violet, to the stage to sing one of the band’s new songs from their recently released album, ‘’But Here We Are.’’ He explained that the song, called ‘’Show Me How’’, was written as a tribute to his late-mother.

As they performed their final song, ‘‘Everlong’‘, the band dedicated the song to their late-drummer, Taylor Hawkins, who passed away last March at the age of 50. Grohl said,”Lets sing this one loud and sing for Mr Taylor.” The Glastonbury crowd cheered as he continued by saying, ”Sing it for T.” The Foo Fighters drumming spot has recently been taken over by Josh Freese. He was announced as the new drummer on a live stream of the band performing in early May on the app, Veeps. Josh Freese has worked with iconic bands such as Weezer, Nine Inch Nails and Glastonbury 2023 headliners Guns N’ Roses.

Foo Fighters sang some of their greatest hits during their Glastonbury set, including ‘’Best of You’’, ‘’My Hero’’, ‘’Learn To Fly”, ”All My Life” and ‘’The Pretender.’’ Dave Grohl also confirmed the band will be returning to the UK next summer to embark on their highly anticipated tour. A release date for the tickets or any confirmation of where they will be performing is still yet to be announced.

— Raymond Flotat (@mxdwn) June 20, 2023

The vocal ailment has the potential to completely sideline the band, as it has now emerged that the Sheffield Indie rock heroes may have to pull the plug on their appearance at the hallowed grounds in Somerset. The group have already cancelled their Dublin show on Tuesday and fans are understandably nervous that Arctic Monkeys may have to give Glastonbury a miss as well.

In an effort to quell the anxiety over what is arguably one of the most eagerly awaited performances, co-organiser Emily Eavis has shared her belief that things will turn out just fine. Speaking to reporters outside Glastonbury’s gates, she said, “I think we are going to be alright. They’ve cancelled that [Dublin show], he’s recovering. I’m sure we’re going to be alright.”

| Glastonbury’s Emily Eavis has back-up plan if Arctic Monkeys are forced to cancel More below pic.twitter.com/iUwB5OHbMY — LADbible (@ladbible) June 22, 2023

In a worst case scenario, the festival seems to have contingency plans in place with Eavis declaring that there are always back up plans. With such a sprawling festival that gathers around 210,000 fans, plan Bs have to be well organised should the rare event happen that a band cannot play. So, festival goers can rest easy that no matter what happens, Glastonbury will be sure to please.

And the festival is often full of surprises. Only days ago it was announced that The Pretenders would be doing a surprise set on the Park Stage and rumours have been rife that none other than legendary American superstars, the Foo Fighters would be making a surprise appearance. In fact, many have speculated that it will be the Dave Grohl fronted mega band that will replace Arctic Monkeys should that come to pass. Eavis has remained mum on the topic however.

All of this could (and most likely will) be moot however, as according to The Independent on Thursday evening, Turner is fine and fully intends to lead the Arctic Monkeys out onto the Pyramid Stage to fulfil their headlining slot. The thousands of fans thronging the Glastonbury festival grounds will certainly be keeping their fingers crossed that this turns out to be true.

The Arctic Monkeys are at the end of their UK and Ireland tour with special guests The Hives and the Mysterines. Besides their Glastonbury set, the band have one date left-in Glasgow on Sunday.

The 16-year-old got behind the drums for the 1997 hit, which he previously performed in tribute to his late father in July, with the band at Wembley Stadium over the weekend. Following a performance of Hawkins’ favourite song of the band’s “Aurora” with David Bowie‘s drummer Omar Hakim, Grohl announced: “Now, we’ve got the little guy. Let me tell you, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone hit the drums as hard as this person. But beyond that, he’s a member of our family and he needs to be here tonight with all of us and I think it makes sense that he’s going to come up and play with us tonight.”

A photo of Shane and his dad was shown on the big screen as the young drummer kicked off the performance of the 1997 single. Grohl cheered him on as Shane finished the song with an immense solo. Stewart Copeland has said that he “started crying” when he saw Shane drum “My Hero”. He told CBS “It is very emotional to be here and perhaps the most emotional moment of this whole thing, because we’re all staying in one big hotel together and laughing it up, talking about Taylor and enjoying the brief time he was with us, all too brief. But the most emotional moment for me was at sound check a couple of days ago here and to see young Shane Hawkins on the drums. I started crying. He’s got it. He’s got such power, enthusiasm. He’s got his father’s stance, musical language. That was really emotional to see young Shane up there.” You can view Shane’s performance of “My Hero” below.

At its opening on Saturday September 3, the event frontman Dave Grohl promised it would be “a gigantic fucking night for a gigantic fucking person” spanning almost six hours with a set list of 50 songs. This was Foo Fighters first performance since Hawkins’ untimely death back in March. Liam Gallagher kicked off the night performing two classic Oasis songs with members of Foo Fighters, while Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ Chad Smith shared a touching video story. Later, Grohl’s daughter, Violet, took to the stage to perform some Jeff Buckley covers, accompanied by her father, Queens Of The Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures’ Alain Johannes and Jane’s Addiction‘s Chris Chaney.

Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich and AC/DC‘s Brian Johnson joined forces on a pair of AC/DC covers, while Mark Ronson and Violet Grohl covered “Valerie”. Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor then joined Foo Fighters for a five-song set, while The Eagles‘ Joe Walsh led a reunited James Gang in their first live performance in 16 years. Calling them the “one band that I always associated Taylor Hawkins with” Grohl joined the surviving members of Rush, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, on stage to perform some of the band’s biggest hits. The final set of the night featured Paul McCartney, Travis Barker, Nandi Bushell, Rufus Taylor (son of Roger Taylor), Josh Freese and Devo joining the Foo Fighters on stage for “Times Like These”, “All My Life”, “The Pretender”, “Monkey Wrench”, “Learn To Fly”, “These Days”, “Best Of You”, “Aurora”, “My Hero” and “Everlong” . Hawkins died aged 50 back in March of this year and was most known as the drummer with Foo Fighters, a second tribute show will take place at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum on September 27.

Along with the announcement of the shows, the Hawkins family also released a statement showing their gratitude towards the community created by Foo Fighters, and the general music scene he affected so greatly.

“As Taylor’s wife, and on behalf of our children, I want to share how much you meant to him and how dedicated he was to ‘knocking your socks off’ during every performance. Taylor was honoured to be a part of the Foo Fighters and valued his dream role in the band every minute of his 25 years with them. We consider every band member and the extended Foo Fighters team our family.
“Taylor’s endearing spirit and deep love of music will live on forever through the collaborations he so enjoyed having with other musicians and the catalogue of songs he contributed to and created.
“In celebration of his life, it is now up to all of us who loved him most to honour Taylor’s legacy and the music he gave us.”

While some of the appearances may come as a slight surprise, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson from Rush, for instance, many of them are clear to even the public eye. Foo Fighters’ relationship with Brian May and Roger Taylor (from Queen, obviously) goes way back to the In Your Honour tour where the band played with the pair for a rendition of ‘Tie Your Mother Down’ featuring Hawkins on lead vocals. You can watch the performance below.
