The festival’s Instagram had been teasing followers since late last month, showing pictures without giving away where the event was set to take place until only three days ago. It’s been described on Instagram as “five years in the making“, and is still wrapped in mystery, with the line-up not having been revealed as of yet (although further details are due later this month). However, fans can reportedly look forward to “some of the biggest names in live and electronic music“ turning up, with six stages being set to host the big names.

And it’s not just music that festival-goers can expect. Otherlands also promises “forward-thinking art“, industry leaders talking and boutique camping for those who are more comfort-orientated. Despite the lack of information at the moment, if you want to know more and be kept up-to-date, you can sign up for their mailing list here.

The festival would have been hard-pressed to find a better space for its event. Scone Palace is a heritage site heaped in its own history, having once been the site of an early Christian church and home to the Earls of Mansfield for over 400 years. The palace has also hosted a number of other festivals, such as Rewind Scotland (coming up next July – a retro-style event focussing on artists from the eighties) and Solas Festival (mixing a variety of disciplines, from poetry to dance and philosophy – coming at you this June).

Despite being busy with Otherlands, FLY are also readying for the next FLY Open Air Festival, which is held at Edinburgh’s Hopetoun House and is due this year on May 21st-22nd. This one’s less of a secret, with a great deal of the line-up having already been announced. Names such as Peggy Gou, DJ Koze and Eclair Fifi are due to make appearances. If you’re interested, tickets can be purchased from here. If things are a bit tight at the moment, you can purchase tickets through monthly instalments. Either way, it seems that, at least for now, music fans can be a little bit more optimistic for the year ahead.

The news comes ahead of Haunt The Wood’s headline show, in London, at The Islington, on 27 November 2019.

The band’s latest track, ‘Supernova’, has been described as containing “evocative piano chords [which] open the track, accompanied by singer Jonathan Stafford’s haunting voice and accented by stunning vocal harmonies, before leading into immersive and climactic passages which pulsate between ever-changing forms of hushed intimacy and explosive passion, anthemic choruses and poignant verses.”

Our new single Supernova is out today! Like, share, stream and enjoy! Listen here: https://t.co/J9CpCEcvFd pic.twitter.com/pqhuAzkj48

‘Supernova’ is the latest single to be taken from Haunt The Woods’ – which consists of Jonathan Stafford, Phoenix Elleschild, Olly Bignell, and Jack Hale – upcoming debut album, ‘Opaque’, and it follows on from the three previous singles, ‘Elephant’, ‘Fly’ and ‘Amethyst’, from the forthcoming album.

Speaking about the track, lead guitarist Phoenix Elleschild, said: “‘Supernova’ is a track that steps outside of our normal approach to writing music.” Jonathan Stafford, vocalist and guitarist, said: “It was largely realised in the spur of the moment whilst recording at Middle Farm.”

Stafford continues, “It asks a lot of questions and offers no attempt at answers whatsoever. It is an awe inspired capitulation of searching and trying to fill the deep emptiness we all have floating beneath the surface.”

The release of their latest track, ‘Supernova’, comes as the four-piece prepare to release their debut album, ‘Opaque’, which will be released on February 28 2020. On their debut album, ‘Opaque’, Haunt The Woods have been described as “pushing the boundaries of musicality, expression and emotional sentiment with an eclectic collection of euphoria, melancholia and reflection interwoven across thirteen tracks of absorbing sonic landscapes.”

DEBUT ALBUM ANNOUNCEMENT We are so incredibly proud to announce that our debut album ‘Opaque’ will be released on 28th February 2020. For now here’s our new single ‘Supernova’ which you can find on all your usual platforms!https://t.co/J9CpCEcvFd Jon, Phoenix, Olly & Jack pic.twitter.com/9eHr6wfruQ — Haunt the Woods (@Hauntthewoods) November 14, 2019

Speaking about the forthcoming album, ‘Opaque’, Stafford, said: “Drugs, alcohol, money, status, clothes and material possessions mask and help with the symptoms, but the problem still remains. We are all going to die and we are atoms contemplating atoms. All of this universe has come from somewhere, and it’s pretty fucking daunting and hard to get your head around.

“Opaque, as our first album, has been a unique and unforgettable experience for the entire band. The studio created a world that exists separately from normal life, where the sole focus is to exercise and explore musical creativity. This contributed the ‘spur of the moment’ writing style that created Opaque, and the four of us, guided by our incredible producer Peter Miles, had never been so creatively energised.”

The release of Haunt The Woods’ latest track, ‘Supernova’, comes ahead of the band’s upcoming headline show, at The Islington, in London, on the November 27 2019. Tickets for their headline show are on sale now and are available to purchase here.
