Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) cancelled the penultimate performance of their ‘Over and Out’ farewell tour just minutes before the band was due to take the stage at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena On Thursday, July 10. The cancellation was announced with the audience already seated and awaiting the start of the show.

The concert was set to be ELO’s second-to-last performance, marking a significant moment in their final tour. However, fans were handed printed notices approximately 15 minutes before showtime, informing them that the performance would not be going ahead due to illness.

Confirmation of the cancellation came via a post shared on the band’s social media, which read: “Unfortunately, due to illness, tonight’s scheduled performance of Jeff Lynne’s ELO at the Co-Op Live will not be going ahead. Jeff is devastated he cannot perform this evening. More information will become available as soon as possible. For refunds, please go to your point of purchase.”

Concern had already been growing among fans following ELO’s previous night at the same venue. Attendees noted that frontman Jeff Lynne appeared visibly unwell during the show. On stage, Lynne revealed he had recently injured his hand in a taxi accident and was forced to perform without his guitar. After the show, fans took to social media to express their concern for the 77-year-old musician, best known for classics like ‘Mr. Blue Sky’, ‘Livin’ Thing’, and ‘Evil Woman’.

The orchestral pop rock band were formed in Birmingham in the early 1970s and became known for their pioneering fusion of pop, rock and classical arrangements. Since taking sole creative control of the band in 1972, multi-instrumentalist Jeff Lynne has written, arranged and produced evert ELO album.

The group released their 14th studio album ‘From Out of Nowhere’ in November 2019. Plans for a supporting tour were later scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In March 2024, Jeff Lynne’s ELO announced their ‘Over and Out Tour’ – a final farewell which would begin in North America in August 2024 is set to conclude at BST Hyde Park in July 2025.

Despite the cancellation in Manchester, the performance this Saturday (July 13) at BST Hyde Park is still scheduled to go ahead. Lynne has long referred to Hyde Park as “the perfect place to do our final show,” having first played the festival in 2014. Whether the final concert proceeds will depend on Lynne’s recovery in the coming days.

The tour, named after one of the song on the band’s famous 1971 album ‘Who’s Next’ will go on for a total of sixteen dates and will start in Florida at the Amerant Bank Arena before making pit stops in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Toronto, New Jersey, New York and other cities. The tour will finish on September 28th at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Guitarist, Pete Townshend said to The Independent: “Well, all good things must come to an end. It is a poignant time. For me, playing to American audiences and those in Canada has always been incredible. The warmth and engagement of those audiences began back in 1967 with hippies smoking dope, sitting on their blankets and listening deeply and intensely. Music was everywhere. We all felt equal.”

“Today, Roger and I still carry the banner for the late Keith Moon and John Entwistle and of course, all of our long-time Who fans. I must say that although the road has not always been enjoyable for me, it is usually easy: the best job I could ever have had. I keep coming back. Every time I do, I meet new fans and feel new energy. Roger and I are in a good place, despite our age, eager to throw our weight behind this fond farewell to all our faithful fans, and hopefully to new ones who might jump in to see what they have been missing for the last 57 years. This tour will be about fond memories, love and laughter. Make sure you join in.”

Lead singer, Roger Daltrey, added: “Every musician’s dream in the early ’60s was to make it big in the US charts. For The Who, that dream came true in 1967 and our lives were changed forever. The warmth of the American audiences over the years have been inspirational to me, and reflect the feeling I remember getting after hearing the first rock records coming across the radio. Musical freedom! Rock gave us a feeling of generational rebellion. To me, America has always been great.”

“The cultural differences had a huge impact on me, this was the land of the possible. It’s not easy to end the big part of my life that touring with The Who has been. Thanks for being there for us and look forward to seeing you one last time.”

The announcement of their split comes almost 30 years after they initially went their separate ways in 1998, whilst touring their heavily acclaimed album ‘The Shape Of Punk To Come’. They eventually reconciled in 2012 before going on to release two new albums, 2015’s ‘Freedom’ and 2019’s ‘War Music’.

However, they promise that this time it is truly the end for the ‘New Noise’ rockers, after their planned 2024 breakup was initially delayed following lead singer Dennis Lyxzén suffering a ‘massive heart attack’ last summer.

The band’s drummer David Sandström shared details of the scary ordeal, saying “We hung out afterwards, I had a few beers and me and Dennis [Lyxzén], still vegan and basically straight edge, traded stupid stories about bands we love.

“It was a fine evening. Next morning I get a call from Dennis’ wife and a couple of tumultuous hours later it’s confirmed that he’s had a heart attack at the hotel.”

The health scare led to Refused cancelling their final ever performance in Sweden at Stockholm’s Rosendal Garden Party. Lyxzén took to Instagram to share that the cancellation was “a complete bummer as I was really looking forward to it. But hopefully I/we will be able to make it up to you soon.”

That promise of making up for the cancellation has now been fulfilled as they will head on tour throughout Europe to say a final goodbye to their devoted fans.

They are currently finishing up their final ever American shows which have been running throughout March and April before heading out to Europe for their opening show in Berlin on June 15.

Fans have been sharing what it means to see Refused for one last time, with reddit user ‘ThisIsGoingToBeCool’ sharing a video of their recent final performance in LA.

The UK and Ireland leg of the farewell tour kicks off in Glasgow on October 1st, before heading to Manchester, London and Dublin. They will return to Germany to play their final ever European show in Leipzig on October 11.

Whilst announcing their American dates late last year, the band also released details of the 25th limited edition version of ‘The Shape Of Punk To Come’. Available to listen now, the 25th anniversary release, titled ‘The Sound Of Punk To Come Obliterated’, is a 12-song tribute album including covers and remixes from bands such as Quicksand, Touche Amore and English rockers IDLES.

British rock band You Me At Six recently shocked fans with the news of their disbandment. The quintet took to social media on Wednesday January 31st to drop the bomb that they will be hitting the road one last time with a world tour scheduled for later this year. The tour will roll over into 2025, which poetically coincides with the band’s 20th anniversary. Front man Josh Franceschi stated in a press release that the milestone of 2 decades “has always been [their] finish line”.

After releasing a suitably emo video statement filmed in a graveyard, You Me At Six announced that the time has come for them to bid farewell to the band. However, after keeping this a secret for some time, Franceschi told BBC “I’m grateful that we’re in a position where we can celebrate, in real time, with our fans.”

Throughout their career, the “Stay With Me” singers have released 8 studio albums, 2 of which (2014’s Cavalier Youth and 2021’s SUCKAPUNCH) reaching number 1 status, toured extensively and received glowing recognition through a variety of awards. These accomplishments have not gone amiss with the band members, as frontman Franceschi told NME “The thing that mattered the most is longevity, getting closer and closer to that 20 year mark. We don’t need this band for self-indulgent reasons. We’re all really satisfied with what we’ve done, let’s just tie a nice little ribbon or bow around it. You don’t want to be the last ones hanging around at the party. We want to be a band that bowed out, not one that was kicked out.”

When asked about plans for their upcoming farewell tour, the 33-year-old stated “We’ve worked out that our final gig is going to be 20 years to the day since our first ever band practice, which is wild. It wasn’t even deliberate.” However, fans will have to be patient for any more information regarding the tour, as dates are set to be announce in “a couple of months”.

Whilst dates for You Me At Six’s final tour are still unknown, you can ensure you receive information regarding the upcoming shows by signing up here.

Elton John has performed a tour date for the very last time after his farewell tour concluded last night in Stockholm. The bittersweet ending in Sweden saw the culmination of the British music icon’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, a tour that commenced at the PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania in September 2018 and has therefore lasted for a staggering five years.

Elton ended his last ever tour show with the song that the tour had been named after, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road“, but before doing so gave a heartfelt final speech to his adoring fans watching on. In it he said, “I’ve had the most wonderful career, beyond belief. Fifty-two years of pure joy, playing music. How lucky am I to play music? But I wouldn’t be sitting here and talking to you if it wasn’t for you.”

“You bought the singles, the CDs, the albums, the cassettes. But more importantly, you bought the tickets to the shows. And you know how much I love to play live. It’s been my lifeblood to play for you guys. You’ve been absolutely magnificent. Thank you.”

Watch Elton’s speech and subsequent performance of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” below:

The Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour has been comprised of a total of 333 shows and has sold 5.7 million tickets, grossing $887 millon, thereby making it the highest-grossing tour in history. It takes its name from both his hit song and his seventh studio album, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, released in 1973, after which his second ever concert tour was also named. This most recent mega tour has visited North America four times, Europe three times and Oceania twice and is a fitting end to the touring career of one of music’s absolute icons. Elton, however, has not completely ruled out performing live again, expressing that a “one-off thing” may occur in the future.

Included as part of the tour was Elton’s legendary headline set at this year’s edition of Glastonbury last month, a show that will be his last UK tour date. An estimated 120,000 fans watched the headline set live at Worthy Farm, with an additional 7.3 million people tuning in to see the legend perform on television.

The show included a special video message from Coldplay who were performing in the Swedish city of Gothenburg at the same time. In the message Coldplay frontman Chris Martin lovingly said, “We are so grateful for everything you’ve done for us. Everything you’ve done for the AIDS Foundation, anytime you’ve been kind to anybody. Everything your band has done over the thousands of shows you’ve done. We love you so much. We’re going to miss you so much.”

Watch Chris Martin’s video message to Elton below:

Sir Elton John has announced that he won’t be stopping live performances despite currently being on his farewell tour.

His Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour will end in July 2023, with Sir Elton confirming that he “will not be going on tour again” after this.

As reported by the Metro, Sir Elton has expressed the difficulty that touring causes, with him looking forward to “a little bit of freedom” to spend with his husband, David Furnish and their two sons, Zachary and Elijah. He explained, “Touring is exhausting for me now, and it takes me away from my family and my children.”

However, his fans can still hope to see him perform in the future, as he shared that “there may be the odd show.”

The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour began back in 2018 and has become the most lucrative tour in music history. The tour has already earned £678million with two months still left to go, and it is estimated that the tour will earn approximately £798million upon its completion. Sir Elton has very much challenged himself on this tour, with him having performed 330 shows in total by the end of the tour’s run.

To keep it interesting for himself and fans alike, Sir Elton’s setlists have varied from show to show, with the epics such as “Rocket Man” and “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” being accompanied by lesser known tracks including “Burn Down the Mission” and “Have Mercy on the Criminal.”

Sir Elton has also recorded a concert movie, Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium, available to watch on Disney+. The movie documents his final North American show, featuring special guests and explosive performances of his biggest hits from a career spanning many decades.

Despite suggesting that shows outside of his tour could be on the cards, Sir Elton did recently turn down the opportunity to perform at King Charles III’s Coronation Concert. This came as a surpise to fans, as Sir Elton has been a firm favourite of the Royals for many years, famously forming close relationships with Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth II.

Sir Elton performed a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II following her passing in September 2022, as well as attending Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011, and performing at the luncheon of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018.

Sir Elton is also close friends with King Charles and Queen Camilla, having invited the pair to his own wedding to David Furnish back in 2005.

Sir Elton’s lack of attendance was not meant to be viewed as a snub however, with his team confirming to Rolling Stone that it was simply due to scheduling conflicts.

Little Mix’s farewell tour has already begun, with the trio playing in Belfast’s SSE Arena last night. Despite the bittersweet news that the band will be taking a break soon, there have been plenty of treats in store for fans, with seven songs being played live for the first time last night. Among them include tracks from their latest studio album Confetti (which this tour is in support of), as well as their 2021 greatest hits collection – Between Us.

Collaborations they’ve done with the likes of French DJ/producer David Guetta, Galantis and Nathan Dawe also received their first live treatment last night, with the songs “Heartbreak Anthem“ and “No Time for Tears“ being performed. Little Mix are here to stay“, noting that they have “plans for more music, tours and performances in the future …. We’re sisters and we’ll always have each other“. Despite this, Jesy Nelson (who left the group last year) has not rejoined for the tour, leaving the group as a trio made of Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock.

On the bright side, it doesn’t mean we won’t be hearing any music from them any time soon. Leaving to work on other projects, they’ve already had some success, with Thirlwall signing up to RCA Records recently and Pinnock joining Warner Records. Pinnock said that she was “so excited for what’s to come“.
