Fans reacted quickly to the announcement, sharing their excitement with the singer, and celebrating his return on the social media platform after a month long hiatus. The Doncaster-born singer is quite known for his special relationship with fans, with whom he often interacts over social media.

Tomlinson first rose to fame as a member of acclaimed and world-famous X-Factor born band One Direction, composed of himself, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne. The group announced a hiatus in early 2016, shortly after Malik had left the band to pursue a solo career, but promised fans they would get back together soon. However the members soon begun releasing their own music as soloist artists, and quickly the short “eighteen months hiatus” that they had promised turned into almost ten years. In a 2023 Interview with Times, the singer revealed that he was “mortified and bitter” over the band’s break up.

In his time with One Direction, Tomlinson accumulated four number one albums and four number one songs. In his solo career so far, the singer has released two full length albums, titled ‘Walls‘ and ‘Faith in the Future’, plus a live collection. With ‘Walls‘, his debut album, Tomlinson peaked at number four and spent three weeks on charts; the only song off album which was featured on Official Charts’s Top Singles Chart is ‘Two of Us‘, a beautifully written ballad about loss and griefs.

‘Faith in the Future‘, released in late 2022, was Tomlinson’s first solo album to achieve the number one position, and then went on to spend six week in the top 100.

Both albums were followed by an extensive tour, and many festivals some of which organised by Tomlinson himself. The artist has, in fact, set up his own festival called ‘The Away From Home Festival‘, a one-day set of concerts which has so far been brought to London, Spain, Italy and most recently, in 2024, Mexico. The festival, which has taken place every summer after 2021, has yet to announce whether it will take place, and where, in 2025.

While Tomlinson has not yet confirmed the release of any new songs or records in 2025, his social media posts make it clear that the artist is set for an important year and is excited to share new projects with fans.

Tomlinson confirmed that it was not much of “a surprise” that Harry Styles has become successful as he has been. “We were always aware that Harry would fit the mould, and it’s been an amazing thing to watch,” Tomlinson said.  “Envy? At the start maybe, when I was trying to find my feet, but it’s never healthy to cross reference your own success with others is it? These days, I’m learning to elevate myself in those moments when I have to. I didn’t know how to do that before, but now? Now I know I f****** can.” 

Although the two had known each other, prior to their early careers, they did not become friends until they joined their fellow bandmates, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik to form One Direction in 2010.

The boyband went on to become one of the biggest and most recognised bands of all time, drastically breaking records, touring the world, and winning awards. However, when Zayn departed from the band in 2015, the remaining band member went on an indefinite hiatus which led the band and Zayn to eventually part ways.

Tomlinson explained that it was then that he felt an intense sense of rivalry between Styles. He believes that both himself and Styles are on the same level. Ever since their solo careers started, he felt like he was desperately trying to outdo him. Ever since his album, Walls was released, despite being a successful venture, he says that he continues to look up to Styles and admires him for his achievements.

At the BRIT Awards, where Harry made a controversial statement, “This doesn’t happen to people like me very often.” which sparked outrage amongst viewers. Louis was asked to give his thoughts about this situation and he said, “Only Harry knows what he means there… but we all came from relatively humble beginnings, and now we are where we are.”

After the Faith In The Future album was released in November 2022, he expressed his excitement to continue his solo career and will be dropping more music soon.
