Westerman, the project of London-based experimental pop artist Will Westerman, has released his new single ‘Adriatic’ in anticipation for his new album ‘A Jackal’s Wedding’, releasing on November 7. Westerman has spent time in Italy and Greece, and wrote his latest album on the Greek island of Hydra, referenced in the title to his new song ‘Adriatic’.

About his new single, Waterman said for Partisan Records “I wrote ‘Adriatic’ while failing at moving to Greece. I was trying to break outside of the confines of my immediate physical reality. Life is full of practical limitations in terms of having a body, or what you can afford in terms of money, etc. but you can always go to a place in your head where everything is possible, and the song is a celebration of reclaiming that.”. You can see the music video to his latest single below:

‘A Jackal’s Wedding‘ will be Westerman’s third album, following ‘An Inbuilt Fault‘, released in 2023. His website states “Westerman’s third album, ‘A Jackal’s Wedding‘, is a humid, nocturnal record shaped by constant transition. Written largely in Athens and recorded at night over five weeks on the Greek island of Hydra with producer Marta Salogni (Björk, The xx, Sampha, English Teacher), the album takes its name from a folkloric term for a sunshower, a strange and beautiful contradiction that mirrors the record’s themes of motion, change, and surreal clarity.”.

Westerman released his first EP, titled ‘Call and Response’ in 2017, though his breakthrough happened the year later with the release of his single ‘Confirmation’, a single awarded Best New Track by Pitchfork. Confirmation introduced his dreamy sound to the wider music world while the song delves into the process of song-writing and the self-doubt when creating new music.

Westerman’s debut album ‘Your Hero is Not Dead‘ was released to critical acclaim, with honest, moving lyrics and a full synth-heavy sound. In this album, he continues his exploration on song-writing while showing his bravery with intriguing instrumentals. His second album ‘An Inbuilt Fault‘ follows the same lyrical themes though it is a lot more stripped back and allows more space for Westerman’s vocals to shine through. If his new single is an indication of the entire album, the new album will turn up the experimentation while using more catchy, danceable pulse.

‘A Jackal’s Wedding‘ will be released on November 7 2025, you can preorder it here.

Following the release of her new album ‘EUSEXUA’ in January, FKA Twigs has been touring around Europe, giving spellbinding performances in Czech republic, Germany, Belgium and France. On March 21 and 22, the artist reached the UK, performing two shows at Magazine London. The venue, located on the Greenwich peninsula, launched in 2019 with the mission to provide space for artistry and professionalism. Its unique modern and industrial architecture seems fitting for the experimentalism that Twigs brings to her music, which blends electronic and techno influences into a captivating harmony. Since the opening of Magazine London, the venue has hosted artists such as Bastille, Tove Lo and Dizzee Rascal, yet, the way in which Twigs transformed the space for her performance spoke to her innovative musical efforts.

As the show began, the space produced the energy and physicality of raves with synth sounds and dark, pulsing lighting. The artist introduced her performance with a tribute to her older tracks, such as the ethereal ‘Thousand eyes’ from the album ‘Magdalene’, and ‘Figure 8’ from the album ‘M3LL155X’.

After this, Twigs began to showcase her new experimental album ‘EUSEXUA’ , inspired by the underground techno rave scene in Prague. The energy of the room reflected the concept of the album clearly, giving an organic, sensual artistry. ‘Striptease’ graced the stage as the first performed track from ‘EUSEXUA‘s. The artist stretched and pulled down her red flowing gown to let it hang around her waist and filled the room with transcendent operatic vocals. It is then that she let out an unbridled flood of expression, throwing herself into the song’s choppy techno beat and showing us the complexity of her artistry as the same costuming and vocals were transformed into an image reminiscent of a warrior. This notion is important to FKA’s musical ideologies, as noted by issue two of her online Zine series, ‘AVANTgarden’, titled ‘Dream Warrior’.

Fans were amazed by the show, noting the uniqueness of the experience. One fan who attended the show had this to say,

i have never experienced anything like the eusexua tour in my life. fka twigs is the greatest performing act of our generation. this was life changing pic.twitter.com/mH0oHLxjXG

— ali | علی (@theirnameisali) March 22, 2025

Queer tributes were threaded throughout the artist’s show with a showcase of Madonna’s ‘Vogue’. She performs this alongside her dancers in a unique stylistic remix, paying respect to the art of vogueing, whilst inflecting her own artistic authenticity. The two-hour live performance featured impressive choreography, pole dancing during song ’24 hr dog’, and inventive costuming as her dress was performatively chained by her dancers to the black box which surrounded her. This then led into the final song of the show being one of her most notable tracks, ‘Cellophane’, an emotionally desperate piece of art-pop. With this, Twigs left the audience reeling, utterly transported to new depths.

The British rock band Suede performed a never heard before song during their lively set at the Isle of Wight festival. Brett Anderson, the front man, confirmed that the song’s name is ‘Antidepressants’, and that it’s from their unreleased tenth album.

The new song and album moves away from their typical rock genre, and embraces a new, experimental, post-punk style, performed in sprechgesang mode. It contains their true Suede traits, but introduces a new option and genre for the Britpop band. Fans captured the performance of the unreleased song, which you can watch below.

Their performance of ‘Antidepressants’ has been extremely well received by fans, with listeners taking to X to express their excitement for the band’s new sound alongside their eagerness for the release.

Dear X, Suede’s new song Antidepressants! I like it!

— childchild (@childchild) June 23, 2024

The five piece were headlining the Big Top Stage on the Saturday of this year’s festival, and attracted a huge crowd, alongside stirring anticipation for the band’s new album and era. This year’s festival held a star studded lineup, with performances throughout the day from Pet Shop Boys, Blossoms, and Keane. The Sunday lineup does not disappoint either, with sets from the iconic rock band Greenday, alongside Simple Minds and Zara Larsson.

Suede’s new album will be their first since ‘Autofiction’, however in the past two years they have released deluxe editions of albums such as ‘Autofiction’, which included the loved but unreleased song ‘The Sadness In You, The Sadness In Me’, and ‘Bloodsports’, which was released earlier this year and included eight new songs, such as ‘Nothing Can Stop Us’, ‘No Holding Back’, and ‘What Violet Says’. However, fans are still being left in anticipation as the band has not yet confirmed when the new album will be released, and ‘Antidepressants’ is yet to reach any streaming platforms. So far, there is very little information known about their new album apart from the fact that it is “much more experimental”, which Mat Osman, Suede’s bassist, told NME in 2022.

There is hope for more information and new music as the band embark on their co-headline UK and Ireland tour with the Manic Street Preachers. The two iconic 90s rock bands are travelling to Cardiff, Manchester, London, Leeds, Edinburgh, Margate, and Dublin, and you can find any remaining tickets for their tour here. Following the tour, Suede will then perform at Heritage Live on August 1st. This huge outdoor show in Essex will see performances from Suede, Johnny Marr from The Smiths, and Nadine Shah, you can find tickets here.

Since reforming after a performance for the Teenage Cancer Trust Foundation in 2010, after being broken up since 2003, the band have seen lots of popularity, as fans loved ‘Bloodsports’, their first album after reforming, and loved ‘Nightsports’ even more, which is unsurprising considering Bowie labelled them as a future “institution” that deserved recognition from the Royal Family.

The Dallas-born Los Angeles-based singer started the first leg of her tour in March playing dates across North America including a few sold-out shows. She’ll also be performing on the Stephen Colbert Late Show this Friday the 7th April.

25-year-old Olivia Dean, also known as Liv.e, didn’t originally plan on a musical career having grown up in a family of musicians. Her dad played Blues and was embedded in the Gospel scene and her brother is a drummer. However, after finishing a degree in architecture and object design at the School of the Institute of Chicago Art she decided on a career switch. Her debut EP F.R.A.N.K. dropped in 2017 and the following year her EP Hoopdreams won her fans in Erykah Badu and Earl Sweatshirt. After touring with Earl on his Fire It Up Tour in 2019 and featuring on his EP Feet of Clay her popularity only grew. In 2020, she released her debut album Couldn’t Wait to Tell You to critical acclaim.

The singer’s sophomore album Girl in the Half Pearl was released on 10th February. It’s a mosaic of genres meshing neo-soul, alt R&B, and hypnagogic pop sometimes with jungle beats and at others with a touch of psychedelia. It’s no surprise that it has been praised by Pitchfork, Loud and Quiet, and Vulture magazine.

Liv.e’s struggles with heartbreak are evident in Girl in the Half Pearl. The singer told Pitchfork: “I didn’t have anybody to talk talk to, so I wrote this album. I had to get this shit out of me. That’s why I’m so glad the album is out, because I feel like an open wound that’s hitting the wind. It feels nasty, but it feels kinda like, “Ahhhh”.

UK pop sensation Shygirl takes us on a trip down the uncanny valley with her latest video for her haunting new single “Playboy/Positions”. The single, released on the 4th April, is the fourth track to be issued from Shygirl’s upcoming deluxe album Nymph_o.

Toying with dark sensualness, the first half of the song, “Playboy” starts with a dissonant melody with Shygirl cooling rapping over the top. In the video, a bikini-clad woman spins around a pole in a dark room an eerie face-printed mask obscuring her face. Shy introduces the second half of the song by uttering, “Wait let me just change positions quickly”, the beat quickening with the singer adopting a breathier vocal style. The video for the “Positions” portion features two tattooed men wrestling on a dry grassy football pitch.

Watch the video below:

Irish singer Cosha, English record producer Karma Kid, and English producer to the stars Mura Masa all worked with the singer on the single. London-based photographer Samuel Ibram teamed up with Shygirl once again for the haunting video. He previously directed the video for Shygirl and Björk’s “Woe (I See It From Your Side)” as well as photographed Shy for the cover for Nymph.

Nymph_o, the deluxe version of Shygirl’s 2022 debut album, Nymph, will be available on streaming on the 14th of this month. The album will contain reimagines and remixes of songs on the original LP as well as some brand-new tracks like “Playboy/Positions”. So far, Shygirl has released three other songs that will feature on Nymph_o: a club mix of “Poison”, a reimagining of “Heaven” featuring the celestial vocals of alt R&B singer Tinashe, and Björk’s ethereal remix “Woe (I See It From Your Side)”. The genre-bending LP will also feature Eartheater and Arca. To preorder the album click here.

Southeast London rapper, DJ, and singer-songwriter Blane Muise, better known as Shygirl, entered the scene in 2017 receiving praise for her unique deconstructed club and experimental hip hop sound. Her debut EP Cruel Practice and her sophomore EP Alias caught the attention of Pitchfork, NME, Vogue, and Crack Magazine.

All female indie rock, neo-psychedelia, post-punk and everything in between band Goat Girl have released their extended play ‘Sad Cowboy (Remixes)’ as a reprise to the highly acclaimed album ‘On All Fours’ which saw its release in January of this year.

The EP includes five tracks over two sides. The first side includes the original track followed by Portuguese producer Nidia’s remix, an inventive artist who merges lots of afro-portugese dance styles into her music including kuduro, batida and tarraxhina. Side B treats us to remixes from the likes of London three-piece band PVA, a genre bending group consisting of London musicians Ella Harris, Josh Baxter and Louis Satchell. This group started out performing at The Brixton Windmill, the same venue that gave Goat Girl exposure early in their career also.

British-Nigerian electronic artist Tony Njoku also gave the track his own take on things. This experimental producer blends sensual vocals with glitchy and lively production. The last remix comes with Cameron Picton (also known as DJ Dairy) from the experimental outfit and Mercury Prize nominated Black Midi, a solo side project from the bassist and vocalist taking a more electronic approach to that of his bandmates.

The twenty-two-minute EP is available to purchase in the form of a 12 inch record. The vinyl comes in black and currently has a limited run of only 850 copies stocked by retailer Rough Trade Records. The record comes complete with the beautiful psychedelic album artwork from the EP, fitting in with the band’s visual identity well. Sad Cowboy (Remixes) is available on all major streaming services right now to listen to.

The experimental five-piece band Squid have arrived during an ongoing explosion of talent in the realms of contemporary post-punk. Bands are forming out England’s political frustrations, taking the previous sounds of the likes of Talking Heads and other pioneering acts, seeking to modernize them and create a new voice in the form of experimental rock. In Squid’s case, the bands NEU! and This Heat are listed as influences, where their sounds have shaped them as a band. In 2019, Squid released their second and most pivotal extended play ‘Town Centre’ on the Dan Carey led label Speedy Wunderground, a key development in the bands style of music.

The album ‘Bright Green Field’ released on Friday featuring further production by Dan Carey, an influential figure in this emerging scene who has previously aided other bands such as Black Country New Road, Fontaines D.C and Black Midi. The lead single ‘Narrator’ was released late January of this year, instantly developing hype for the album rollout. After two more singles ‘Paddling’ and ‘Pamphlets’, the album saw its release on the acclaimed Warp Records. Upon release the album has received many genre tags, ranging from dance-punk, to math-rock to post-rock, solidifying its nature as a forward-thinking release.

There are physicals available for purchase for the LP NME described in a review as “An uncompromising debut that fulfils every ounce of the band’s potential”. Warp Records store lists a limited-edition gatefold green vinyl LP, a standard black LP, a CD complete with digipack and booklet and a red cassette available for purchase. Other merch is also available including t-shirts, hats, socks and other apparel. Squid themselves in the description on the online store stated “this is the debut album we’ve always wanted to make and without a doubt the most ambitious thing we’ve ever done. We can’t wait for you to hear the whole thing”. You can stream the dazzling debut record below.

After a mysterious teaser on their website, experimental rock outfit Black Midi have returned with LP news after a near two-year studio album break. The album ‘Cavalcade’ arrives 28th May on Rough Trade Records, with the artwork and eight song track list already revealed. Rough Trade describes the album as “a dynamic, hellacious, and inventive follow-up to 2019’s widely praised Schlagenheim. It scales beautiful new heights, pulling widely from a plethora of genres and influences, reaching ever upwards from an already lofty base of early achievements.”

A 2-track single has also been released to streaming. The Marta Solgani produced lead single and album intro ‘John L’ is accompanied by a nightmarishly choreographed video, directed by Nina McNeely, whose previous works include the likes of Miguel’s ‘Funeral’ video and Rihanna’s ‘Sledgehammer’. This is the bands second music video, accompanying the ‘Schlangenheim’ outro ‘Ducter’ from 2019.

With the absence of pivotal guitarist/vocalist Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin, the band currently comprises of three members, stating that they “chose to augment their sound on Cavalcade, rather than replicate it”. This was achieved by bringing in saxophonist Kaidi Akinnibi and keyboard player Seth Evans. Most of the LP was recorded in 2020 in the Dublin mountains at the fitting Hellfire Studios, who specialize in various metal sub-genres.

Cavalcade arrives with an array of physical formats too, with picture disc, CD and cassette available for pre-order on Rough Trade in line with the release date. Along with that selection, the shop also features a black LP with limited edition exclusive coloured flexi-disc including a cover song performed by the band of the listeners choice.

London based experimental rock outfit Black Midi are back, teasing new content on their website. The four-piece band consisting of members Geordie Greep, Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin, Cameron Picton and Morgan Simpson skyrocketed to the top of rock music discussions when they shocked BBC Four viewers at the 2019 Hyundai Mercury Prize with their intense style. Their debut album ‘Schlangenheim’ arrived in 2019 through Rough Trade Records to critical acclaim, landing a spot on the Top 50 UK Albums Chart. The project, most of it recorded over a five-day period, was praised for its musicianship and unpredictable nature.

Since the debut, listeners have been eager to catch a glimpse of what is next in store for this unique band. This mysterious website, initially posted to twitter by Rough Trade, provides some insight into potential new artwork and music with a puzzle, featuring tiles of psychedelic imagery. Fans have begun to uncover various soundbites of noise from each tile, from chaotic violins to reverb filled drum loops fitting with the intense nature of their music. As of today there are over 30 tiles. These clips are believed to be related to a new single that was previously teased on their official TikTok account, which remains their only upload to the video sharing app to this day.

Black Midi continue to form their own auditory and visual identity, carving out a lane for themselves and providing a forward thinking experimental touch to rock. They are continuing to roll out new content as a band despite vocalist/guitarist Matt taking a hiatus from the band. The announcement of Matt’s break from the band came as a result of mental health, with himself stating in a Facebook post “I’ve been taking some time off from the band as I have been mentally unwell. Because of this I haven’t featured on forthcoming material. I’ll be back soon.”

Whilst we await more news on their sought after sophomore album, revisit Black Midi’s infamous ‘bmbmbm’ performance at the 2019 Mercury Prize.
