Going back to their early routes, The Rolling Stones are working on material for an album inspired by the blues. Going back nearly six decades, The Rolling Stones drew early influence from blues artists, especially the likes of Muddy Waters. In fact their band name came from Muddy Waters’ 1950 song entitled ‘Rollin’ Stone’.

Keith Richards told BBC 6 Music:

“We’re actually in the studio in the moment cutting new stuff,”

Guitarist Ronnie Wood added that the band recently “cut 11 songs in two days. Just ‘bang’ – like that.”

“It was a surprise to us. We didn’t intend doing it,” he told Matt Everitt. “I wish I could play them to you now. I’m so excited about them.”

The Rolling Stones’ last studio album was back in 2005, A Bigger Bang.

Ronny Wood continued:

“They sound so authentic it’s frightening,”

“We didn’t spend any time rehearsing them or anything. We just picked a song that suited Mick’s harmonica or a guitar riff… and they worked out pretty good.

“It was like, ‘this is what the Stones do, we play blues.'”

“It’s sounding really good,” added Mick Jagger. “We did one session before Christmas. We’ll probably do more.”

Mxdwn (click the link) has followed The Rolling Stones this year from the first announcement of their potential Cuba gig, the historic moment they played to 1.2 million, to the build-up of their memorabilia exhibition, Exhibitionism at London’s Saatchi Gallery.

The Rolling Stones continue to create news and diehard fans will look forward to the release of this blues-inspired album.

On a lawn outside London’s Saatchi Gallery, The Rolling Stones has been prevented from playing a short performance outside their own exhibition of memorabilia by the local Chelsea residents.

Keith Richards, quoted in Music-news, told The Sun newspaper:

“There was a plan to do four or five numbers on the lawn but the Chelsea Residents’ Association poo-pooed (disputed) that. How generous of them. It would have only been four or five songs.”

Richards added:

“I’m dying to see the reproduction of our first flat together in Edith Grove because the only thing that gave it character was the pong (smell)… I mean that’s where we sat around and basically concentrated every night on how to play together. We were endlessly listening to records and occasionally we went out and did a gig…. wow, yeah, it is a long time since Edith Grove.”

This comes after they said Muchas Gracias! to their fans who flocked to see them in their recent tour of Latin America. This included their historic performance in Cuba on March 25 to 1.2 million people (Mxdwn covered the build-up to this historic moment – see both articles).

Exhibitionism opens next month 5/4 until September before travelling the world.

Keith Richards ended:

“(It) pains me a little because there are a couple of jackets I let in there that I ain’t going to see for a long while.”
