A Los Angeles native, Eilish’s career was formed in her childhood bedroom, spun at the fingertips of her brother Finneas O’Connel. The pair worked excessively hard in producing her first single, ‘Ocean Eyes’ releasing it independently on Soundcloud on November 19, 2015. From the moment ‘Ocean Eyes’ hit streaming services it was evident both Eilish and her brother were a pair to keep a close eye on. They have gone on to take the music industry by storm and Billie Eilish is arguably one of the most popular names in music modernity.

From the initial break-through of ‘Ocean Eyes’ it was clear Eilish was different from her competition. inseparable from her musical brother, expressing herself through her clothing and withholding such great musical talent at the young age of 14. Over the years that difference in her from her peers has become her signature staple, solidifying her spot in the ever-changing music industry. Even from the very early silver haired days, a cult following began to form around Eilish, young fans would line up for hours for a chance to meet her and cram into tiny venues to witness the sibling pair perform their bedroom produced music.

The main appeal of the music itself is it’s rawness and vulnerability. For a lot of young people, many artists they look up to avoid discussing sensitive subjects, particularly their own mental health struggles. That’s where Eilish stands out, she weaves together lyrics describing feelings that have never been personified. Young people in recent years desperately needed an anchor to keep them at bay when navigating a crazy tech fueled world, this is where many find solidarity in Eilish’s music.

Eilish’s debut EP, ‘Don’t Smile At Me’ was released August 11, 2017. The electropop record consisted of seven singles and received favourable reviews from critics. The EP gained commercial success reaching number 14 on the US Billboard 200 and number 12 on the UK Albums Chart. All throughout this process, the loyal fans from the Soundcloud days remained in the front rows cheering Eilish on.

Eilish has gone on to release 3 albums and 3 EP’s and is featured on countless other tracks by her musical friends. At just 24 years old, her achievements are eye watering, sold out world tours, 9 Grammys, an Oscar winning song and throughout all this she remains authentic.

Eilish is extremely politically vocal, speaking up about the overturning of Roe V. Wade, women’s rights, gun violence and racial violence. Eilish has also always urged her supporters to vote in general elections and more recently she donated over $11 million to environmental focused charities. It is evident we made the right person famous with Billie EIlish and we can only hope she has the birthday she truly deserves.

Originally released in 2021, ‘MIMIK’ marks the band’s latest and final installment of their 4-part Wreckage Systems project. Produced post-pandemic, the collection of EPs blends classic instrumental sounds with experimental synth, delivering the classic 65daysofstatic sound through the frequent musical syncopation.

In the overview of the EP, representatives of 65daysofstatic write: “‘MIMIK’ is here to fix up your existential wounds, like a bandage made of concrete. Architectural techno-solace, a scaffolding of surety and safety. A brutalist cathedral, its roof of reverb held aloft and shimmering on columns of sub bass. A powerhouse of intention and that intention is: what if dancing but in 7/8? Come in, and welcome. Let the waveforms embrace you. Shelter here from the storm, then make one of your own.” 

The Wreckage Systems project boasts previous EPs from the band, including ‘Available Data’, ‘Tomorrowd’, and ‘Under the Summs’. Brought to fans as a product of 65LABS, the research and development team behind the band’s more experimental output, Wreckage Systems began as constantly evolving musical avalanche, aiming to solve the equation of “noise x infinity”, making its live stream debut May 26 2021. Available to stream via YouTube, the recording demonstrates 65daysofstatic’s work at its most inventive,  showcasing the result of a music system that stacks “layer upon layer of noise on to and into itself.”

At the time of release, the band described the EP as “an ode to the spaces, both physical and liminal, mostly denied to us during these pandemic years.” Four years later following the announcement of release-to-streaming of ‘MIMIK’, 65daysofstatic share the continuous sentiment of spatial restriction that once inspired their music, reflecting: “It seems like a lot of those spaces never really came back, did they? And you can tell we had succumbed to cabin fever because rarely do we treat nostalgia as anything other than the enemy.”

Formed in 2001 in Sheffield, 65daysofstatic are a band at the forefront of experimentalism, blending contemporary techno sounds with their guitar-driven post-rock origins. Best known for providing the soundtrack to the 2016 video game, ‘No Man’s Sky’, the band have been achieving critical acclaim since the beginning of their career, their debut album, ‘The Fall of Math’, being described as “artillery against the argument that music isn’t exciting at the moment.” 

In its true innovative fashion, music from the Wreckage Systems project is currently only available via internet access and fans have yet to see any live performances from the band since its launch.

The EP, comprising tracks recorded during the sessions for their 2024 album ‘Clouds in the Sky They Will Always Be There for Me‘, serves as a reflection of the band’s evolution. The single  ‘Don’t Want to Dance’, released yesterday, January 15, provides fans a glimpse of what’s to come in their concluding work. Commenting on their disbandment on social media, Porridge Radio said: “The songs on this EP are an important part of ‘Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me‘, and mean as much to us as the 11 songs on the album. We are excited for you to hear them. This band has been our life, we’re family now. These tours will be our last, thanks so much for listening.”

Formed in 2015, Porridge Radio rose to prominence with their emotionally charged lyrics and unique blend of lo-fi indie rock and art-punk aesthetics. Their 2020 album ‘Every Bad‘ earned critical acclaim and was shortlisted for the prestigious Mercury Prize. Known for raw, cathartic performances, the band has been a significant voice in the UK’s independent music scene.

As of now, Porridge Radio has not provided a detailed explanation for their decision to disband. In their official announcement on social media, they emphasised gratitude for the love and support they’ve received over the years and framed the decision as the “right time” for them to say goodbye. This suggests that the breakup may be rooted in personal or creative reasons, as is often the case when bands choose to end their journey.

Porridge Radio plans to embark on a series of farewell shows, offering fans a final opportunity to connect with their music. As the band prepares to close this chapter, fans are left with a legacy of deeply introspective, resonant tracks that defined their journey.

Born Dylan Kwabena Mills in East London, the British rapper, producer, and songwriter is recognised as one of grime’s foundational figures. With a career spanning two decades, he has undeniably transformed the UK Rap Scene. 

His debut album ‘Boy in da Corner’ was a defining moment for grime. Released in 2003, the gritty beats paired with introspective, raw lyrics resonated with the struggles and energy of urban youth. The album won the Mercury Prize, making Dizzee the youngest artist at the time to receive the honour.

The subsequent albums, ‘Showtime’ (2004) and ‘Maths + English’ (2007), demonstrate his style evolution as he fused grime with hip-hop and electronic music. Collaborations with artists like the Arctic Monkeys pushed Dizzee, and grime, into mainstream recognition. 

Dizzee’s fourth album, Tongue n’ Cheek’, is arguably his most successful and showcases a shift towards a pop-oriented sound. Hits like ‘Bonkers (featuring Armand Van Helden)’, ‘Dance wiv Me (featuring Calvin Harris and Chrome)’, and ‘Holiday (featuring Calvin Harris)’ all shot up the UK Singles Chart and each made No. 1. With its triple platinum status and multiple BRIT Award nominations, ‘Tongue n’ Cheek’ solidified Dizzee’s status as a mainstream artist and a festival favourite. 

One of his most iconic performances was at Glastonbury with Florence + the Machine performing ‘You’ve Got the Dirtee Love’. Dizzee’s three verses overtop the band’s hit ‘You’ve Got the Love’ reflect the relevant social issues of the time, similar to how he continues to engage with these perspective and themes in his later music.

Although his career has been shadowed at times by controversy, including legal issues and public disputes, his contributions to grime and UK music remain undeniable. 

‘I Invented Grime’ is a 4-track declaration of these contributions. The title reinforces Dizzee’s assertion of his pivotal role in grimes origins, while the EP serves as a celebration of his lasting impact and a call for emerging artists to innovate within the genre.

As the lead single for the EP, ‘Co-sign’ introduces the blend of self-assurance and challenge that runs throughout the EP. He emphasises his legacy throughout the track with “1999, you didn’t know grime, I was making grime and getting no shine” and speaks directly to new grime artists, urging them to push the boundaries of the genre. Lines like “Done a lot for grime, done a lot for rap” underpinned by high-energy beats further emphasise his legacy suggesting that his influence will continue. 

The next two songs on the EP reflect on Dizzee’s long-standing presence in the grime scene and display his strong ties to the culture of grime. ‘Match Fit’ blends his signature grime style with dance influences, featuring driving basslines and rhythmic syncopation, giving the track a modern edge. Similarly, gritty energy in the penultimate track ‘Arsey’ reflects the rawness of grime culture that Dizzee resonates with. The fast-paced, aggressive rhymes and punchy beats embody grime’s unrefined, bold style and create a relentless flow that continues into the last song.  

‘Daily Duppy’ ties the EP together in a final showdown which displays Dizzee’s mastery of grime. Through complex wordplay and rapid flow, he addresses haters who question his relevance and critiques the industry. He asserts his supremacy with sharp lyricism, claiming to be “the best there is, there was, and ever will be”, reinforcing that he is not yet finished with grime.

Ultimately, ‘I Invented Grime’  serves as a declaration of Dizzee’s dominance and a challenge to contemporary grime. During his career he has been a trailblazer, bringing grime to mainstream ears and shaping the sound of UK rap. His bold, introspective delivery throughout the EP reassures fans that his contributions to grime will continue, and that he remains a leading voice in the genre.

Moonlight Academy is a four-piece band featuring Ryan on vocals and rhythm guitar, Conor on lead guitar and backing vocals, Stef on bass, and Curtis on drums. They take inspiration from artists such as The Killers, Kings of Leon, Sam Fender, and Catfish and The Bottlemen.

“It was actually one of the earliest Moonlight songs ever written while we were still figuring out the sound. Ryan had been listening to a lot of Britpop and this song was written by the sea in the south of France. There is a lot of reflecting in this song about love, life, and grief.”

The EP includes earlier singles like ‘Unbroken’ and ‘Deeper’, which collectively offer a fuller understanding of the band’s sonic growth​. John Kennedy from Radio X said: “’Unbroken’ is an example of excellent songwriting that gets you on the dance floor jumping up and down.” The single ‘Golden‘ has the most Spotify streams so far with 8 377 listens. The EP consisting of four tracks is in line with the band’s alternative/classic-rock genre but the title track ‘Above The Sky‘ is verging on a more acoustic sound.

Moonlight Academy are only at the beginning of their journey but have already had success touring around the UK with more shows to be announced in 2025.

“We’ve got big plans to get around the country this year, equipped with many more songs recorded, locked and loaded and ready to go. The indie fusionist shared her excitement on Instagram about how the four-track project came to be, and how it contains ‘lost, older versions‘ of herself, commenting: “I recently went back through my archives and rediscovered these demos and felt that I wanted to release them as a project without overthinking too much. This EP is lost older versions of myself mixed up with the present. I’m very much a work in progress and I just really wanted to share these tunes with you guys cos I still love them ! After a year cemented by collaborations with the likes of MUNA, d4vd and Del Water Gap, ‘Work In Progress’ will continue Humberstone’s streak of exciting features, including folk band Flyte’s Will Taylor and acclaimed producer Andrew Sarlo, known for his work with Big Thief, Dijon and Bon Iver. The remaining tracks on the EP are the title track, along with ‘Down Swinging‘ and ‘Easy Tiger‘.

Having already embarked on a mammoth 20-date UK and European tour with shows in Paris and Amsterdam under her belt, the London-based singer will be kicking things off in the UK leading up to the EP in Manchester on March 8, followed by a jampacked tour in Australia, Japan and a 17-date tour in North America this summer.

Simz took to Instagram to voice her thoughts on the release, as well as her love for her fans, commenting: “Love you all, I need you to know. The EP was co-created by music producer, songwriter, and DJ James Jacob, who composed the soundtrack for A24’s exhilarating, coming-of-age film How To Have Sex. Crafted by artists Marco Grey and Jeremy Cole, the black and white artwork depicts Simz wearing some kind of futuristic, chrome armour with a butterfly floating next to her, with her new highly stylised website showcasing the same sci-fi, avant-garde imagery. Once on the explore page, the site presents fans with a series of different symbols with options to buy merchandise, stay connected on her social media pages, join her mailing list or stream the new EP, which can be selected by clicking the same butterfly symbol, a thread in the album’s storyline that remains unclear thus far.

Born in Shropshire, Nieve Ella first began to make a name for herself after recording and posting covers and original tunes online during the COVID:19 pandemic. She took to learning guitar and began to dabble in songwriting, effortlessly weaving a tapestry of emotional, angsty ballads from her lockdown bedroom.

At just 19 years old, Nieve eventually burst on to the scene in 2022 with her debut single ‘Girlfriend’, a gutsy, confrontational track calling out an ex-lover. The single delves into a toxic love triangle fractured with lying and cheating, causing her to empathise and team up with the ‘girlfriend’ in question, making it the ultimate ‘girl’s girl’ anthem. The track inevitably got picked up by BBC Radio 1’s Greg James, going on to receive generous radio play nationwide and major Spotify playlist features.

2023 saw the release of her debut EP ‘Young & Naïve’, a patchwork of all-too-relatable tales of youth, heartbreak, and longing, but also destructive, painful relationships, and how that pain so often feels irreversible. There is a clear sense of wanting or needing to be older, and to be treated as such.

Since then, her artistry has risen to dizzying new heights after successfully nabbing support slots for Irish indie-rock band Inhaler on their UK tour and British pop singer Dylan on her European stint, as well as knockout 30-minute sets performed at Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds Festival.

Last year also saw the release of her second and most impressive project to date, ‘Lifetime of Wanting’. The EP navigates the transition from teens into early twenties and explores a number of different interiors and everyday spaces, such as ‘Your Room’, ‘Big House’, ‘His Sofa’, ‘Glasshouses’ and ‘Car Park’, all of which relive specific memories and events rich with sentiment.

Each space comes with its own set of emotional paraphernalia; twisted sheets, hiding spots on staircases and flashbacks of dancing to Phoebe Bridgers across an ex’s bedroom floor; all poignant moments that are sewn into the very fabric of her being. With textured lyrics and honest storytelling, Nieve continues to let her heart bleed out on to her ribbon-clad sleeve.

Ready to dazzle live crowds once again, the singer songwriter will be accompanied by her best friends turned bandmates, Finn Marlow (guitar), Matt Garnett (drums), and Fran Larkin (bass).

Those lucky enough to have swiped a ticket will be able to catch her in February in London, Manchester, Glasgow, and Birmingham, with support from Stevie Bill and Siobhán Winifred. The singer is also quietly building a small but loyal fanbase across the channel, with shows set to take place in Cologne, Amsterdam and Paris in April.

With a promising year ahead, Nieve Ella is finally stepping into her light, a sign that it’s all beginning to sink in for this rising UK star.

The 22-year old singer-songwriter, gaining popularity for her bubbly melodies and alternative pop hooks, has recently joined some of music’s biggest names on tour – supporting Dua Lipa on her Future Nostalgia Tour, Coldplay for their Music of the Sphere’s Tour and Ed Sheeran on his Mathematics Tour.

Griff took to Instagram to share her excitement, stating, “Guys, news!! I’m going on tour next year across the UK and Europe. It’s going to be my first headline shows in Europe! And I’ll be playing across UK again too. Can’t wait to be in the room with you all and play you the new music. Tickets are on sale this Friday. Come and find me in your nearest city.”

The Brit-award winner has recently released her new single ‘Vertigo‘, gaining attention and acclaim from US pop star, Taylor Swift, who shared the song on her Instagram page. The single has been followed by the release of her EP, Vert1go.vol.1, which gives listeners a closer insight into Griff’s personal life, saying, “This collection of songs are fragile and insular and desperately heartbroken (as usual).  Can’t wait for them to be yours.”

To celebrate the release of this latest EP, Griff has been playing a trilogy of intimate shows in London, Berlin and Paris. Playing unreleased songs to fans in London, Griff shared the news that she has collaborated with Chris Martin to write upcoming song, ‘Astronaut‘. Her return to the stage has seen fans sell-out these shows within days.

“On Wednesday I played an intimate show with some of you guys, and played the songs on volume 1. It’s been so long since I’ve been in the room with you guys for my own show and it felt so good,” she stated on X, “I hope volume 1 can become some kind of soundtrack to your days and nights.”

This latest era for Griff comes after her critically acclaimed debut mixtape, One Foot in Front of the Other, which saw the singer enter the UK album charts for the first time and peak at no.4. This also saw Griff win the Rising Star Award at the Brit Awards, making her one of the youngest recipients at just 20 years old.

Beginning in March 2024, Griff will begin her tour in Stockholm and continue her run, finishing up in London’s iconic Roundhouse venue.

This tour supports Glass’ debut album, PREY//IV. Her music involves essences of noise-pop, jagged electro shapes, and rubbery rhythms bouncing under gleaming synths. Glass’ personal mission under PREY//IV will be sharing her vital music with anyone with whom it will provide a necessary refuge.

Her debut album consists of singular and electrifying elements of raw emotion that are undeniably hers, which indicates a result of a life lived wielding the necessary sharp objects to survive the awakening of trauma and abuse. Producer and musician, Jupiter io and Glass collaborated together on all the song processes in the album. I get messages from people all the time about what’s happened to me, and there’s always this cliché of the victim overcoming and becoming the survivor. It’s one-dimensional. Idealistic endings don’t represent reality. There are lots of different ways that people live their lives, and mine is one of them.” Glass concludes.

During the time between Glass’ self-titled 2017 EP and PREY//IV, the singer dedicated her time to the continuation of the healing process following the abusive treatment that was forced upon her and survived as one-half of Crystal Castles, a now-defunct electro-punk group. Glass was best known as lead singer in the band. The release of her self-titled album showcased her sharp, often political lyrics and her intense industrial-inspired sound.

Upon those four years of developing the concept of PREY//IV, Glass and her partner Jupiter io worked on writing and recording the album from their basement. The album title itself, not only describes Glass’ own personal experiences but the constant issues women statistically face in society on a regular basis. Her song in the album, “Baby Teeth” addresses turning the abuse and violence based on one’s inward experience. Her main purpose for this album provides and encourages healing to those who relate to her experience.

Pitchfork describes the movement of her sound with the interaction of the dancefloor in “Baby Teeth,” evoking the “dark thump” of Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” and “Pinned Beneath Limbs” giving a SOPHIE-esque deep cut via the industrial punk’s tremor of a Posh Isolation record.
