Up and coming South East London rapper ENNY made an appearance yesterday on Colours Youtube for an exclusive performance of her song ‘Peng Black Girls Remix,’ featuring popular London singer Jorja Smith, who rose to fame with 2017’s ‘On My Mind,’ and has had a successful career since then. The addition of Jorja Smith’s distinctive vocals to the chorus of ‘Peng Black Girls,’ puts an interesting twist on what is otherwise a very rap heavy track and may go some way to generating some mainstream attention for ENNY.

Since being released yesterday, the video performance has received 393,610 views on Youtube and is #10 on trending, an impressive feat for a song written by an emerging artist. In their own words, ‘COLORSXSTUDIOS is a unique aesthetic music platform showcasing exceptional talent from around the globe. COLORS focuses on the most distinctive new artists and original sounds in an increasingly fragmented and saturated scene. All COLORS shows seek to provide clear, minimalistic stage that shines a spotlight on the artists, giving them the opportunity to present their music without distraction.’ The studio have taken a uniquely cross platform approach to their showcases, with live sessions available to watch on Youtube but also as audio versions on Spotify or Apple Music.

Colours also have a very attractive and user-friendly website which also showcases all of the other artists they work with, you can check it out here. As well as more up and coming artists, Colours have also managed to score appearances from big name stars such as Billie Eilish and Alicia Keys to name a few meaning that an appearance on their channel could mean big things for ENNY.

Since she started releasing freestyles on her instagram back in 2018, South-East London’s ENNY has been gradually growing her following and developing her style which features articulate rap overlaying beats with a strong sense of musicality influenced by the masters of sampling, J-Dilla and modern stars like Jay-Z or Kanye West. Despite these American influences, ENNY’s style is uniquely British and even more uniquely grounded in South-East London. The London Rap scene has been overflowing with talent in recent years and here is no exception, it is no surprise that ‘Peng Black Girls,’ has been picked up by BBC introducing and attracted a collaboration with established star Jorja Smith.

The lyrics for ‘Peng Black Girls,’ are an empowering statement for both race and gender, two of the hottest talking points in music today. With the UK still dealing with issues surrounding race, this year’s Black Lives Matter protests still hanging heavy in the minds of many, and with gender equality still a goal which some would argue has not yet been achieved, though some great improvements have been made, this song has never been more relevant.

‘Peng Black Girls,’ is the third in a series of singles ENNY has released this year, beginning with her debut ‘He’s Not Into You,’ which has all of the articulate lyricism with a slightly more jazzy edge.
