Born Adele Emeli Sandé, the singer originally adopted her middle name professionally to avoid confusion with global superstar Adele. Now, after years of industry experience, she feels the time is right to return to her roots and reintroduce herself under her given name. The decision marks a significant shift for the artist, known for hits like ‘Heaven‘ and ‘Next to Me‘, as she embraces a fresh start on her own terms.

The 37-year-old has also launched her own record label, Venus Records, giving her full creative control over her future projects. She described the move as a liberating step away from major-label pressures, allowing her to create music that feels raw and organic. In November 2024, Emeli released a new single ‘Roots’ under this label but still using Emeli Sandé as her name.

“I really want to release something as Adele Sandé. I released an EP before I moved to London as Adele with the same guy that I’m now working with. But at that point the other Adele was doing so well. She was the most famous person in the world so I just thought of using my middle name.” The singer said for The Scottish Sun.

Sandé first gained widespread recognition in 2012 with her debut album ‘Our Version of Events‘ (2012), which became the UK’s best-selling album of the year. She followed up with ‘Long Live the Angels‘ (2016) and ‘REAL LIFE‘ (2019), cementing her reputation as a powerhouse vocalist. Despite critical acclaim, her more recent releases have struggled to replicate the commercial success of her early work. Emeli Sandé’s most charted song on the UK Singles Chart is ‘Read All About It (Part III)’ with Professor Green. The song hit No. 1 in 2011 and stayed at the top for two weeks. It became one of her most recognized songs, especially after her solo rendition at the 2012 London Olympics Closing Ceremony.Now engaged to classical pianist Yoana Karemova, Sandé balances her time between Scotland and London, drawing inspiration from her personal life for her upcoming music. Fans can expect a return to the emotional depth and soulfulness that made her a household name, with a renewed sense of artistic freedom.

While the name change may raise eyebrows, Sandé remains confident in her decision. “I met Adele at Michelle Obama’s talk and she was really lovely. The announcement came after the band released a compilation album, The Very Best Of 1989 – 2023, which includes 24 songs from the Scottish band’s career, including smash hit “Say What You Want”. The album was released in June 2o23, and marks 34 years of the alternative rockers making music.

The tour promoting The Very Best Of 1989-2023 will be a six-date UK arena tour in September 2024. The band will begin the tour in Leeds at First Direct Arena, and end with a show in Texas‘ hometown of Glasgow, at the OVO Hydro.

The rock band fronted by Sharleen Spiteri gave an electric performance at this year’s Glastonbury festival, where they performed classic hits from their discography, as well as newer songs from their latest studio album, 2021’s Hi. You can watch the full video of their performance on the iconic Pyramid Stage below.

Since forming in 1986, Texas have gone on to produce 10 studio albums, including White On Blonde, their first UK number 1 album. Over the span of their career, the band have sold over 40 million records worldwide, and secured their legacy in Scotland, being one of the most successful bands Glasgow has ever produced.

Before Texas head out on their UK arena tour, the Glaswegians will perform at BBC Radio 2 In The Park this weekend in Leicester. The band will also feature on Magic Radio’s Magic Of Christmas, ready to get you into the Christmas spirit, alongside Emeli Sande, Rick Astley, Simply Red and more.

Tickets for the upcoming Texas “The Very Best Of” tour will go on general sale on Friday 22nd September. On Thursday 8th September 2022 Queen Elizabeth II passed away at her Scottish Balmoral estate, surrounded by her close family. As per tradition, the union flag situated on top of London’s Buckingham Palace has been adjusted to half-mast.

Queen Elizabeth II’s heavy influence within culture is often cited to her time on the throne; her royal tenure spans an impressive 70 years and 214 days, making her the longest reigning monarch in British History. Known as Princess Elizabeth before being crowned, she was promoted to Queen at the young age of 27; her coronation took place at London’s Westminster Abbey in 1953. The televised event was a landmark event and drew in an audience of over 20 million viewers.

Her Son, King Charles III, has given the following statement concerning his mother’s death, “We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother.I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.” He continued to discuss the forthcoming difficult period of mourning and stated that he and his family would be “comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which the Queen was so widely held“.

Due to the Queen’s long reign and consistent presence throughout many decades and eras, many have expressed intense sadness about Queen Elizabeth II’s passing. As the world is left reeling from the tragic news, more and more tributes have poured in, many from the musical world:

Details have been revealed concerning Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral; it has been confirmed to occur at 11 am on Monday 19th September 2022. Buckingham Palace has also confirmed the day of the funeral will be a bank holiday, and the Queen’s coffin will be taken to Edinburgh’s St Giles Cathedral after the funeral. On Monday, 12th September 2022, members of the public will be able to visit the Cathedral to pay their respects; on Wednesday 14th September the coffin will be moved to London’s Palace of Westminster, where the public can also pay their respects.

This is Sandé’s fourth album and has been released though Chrysalis Records. Singles, “Family”, “Look What You’ve Done” (featuring Jaykae) and “Brighter Days” marked the first taste of new music from the “Next To Me” hitmaker in two years, and have set the scene for today’s release.

In an interview Sandé said: “Brighter Days is inspired by the truth that even in the darkest moments, there is always hope. We might have to dig deeper to feel it, but hope is always there. Staying anchored in hope and faith is our victory and defeat only comes when we lose sight of this power. Brighter Days is an affirmation – it’s a reminder of our collective power to make a choice and create our reality.”

In an exclusive interview with Variety, Sandé shared: “I’m so proud of this album and can’t wait to release it. I’ve felt free to express myself more naturally both lyrically and musically in this album and my wish is that it will be an uplifting experience for each listener and that they will get to know me on a much deeper level.” 

Emeli was married between 2012 to 2014 to university lecturer Adam Gouraguine. Since splitting, the 35-year-old singer has announced that she is now in a same-sex relationship with classical pianist Yoana Karemova. In a statement she said, “I guess people made more of a story about it because I fell in love with a woman. But for me, being in love at this level, that’s the story. I’ve definitely never felt this depth of love.”

In an interview with the Guardian she added “I feel divided because I do recognise that I’m in quite a privileged position to be free to say I’m in love with a woman. I definitely hope that I can help someone else feel the strength to do the same. But I probably need to get a bit more clued up. All I can do is answer on how I feel. I can exhale. I love music. And you know, I love that there’s an album coming out – but I finally know that, beyond that, I can find happiness.”

It was announced that Emeli Sande and James Arthur would appear at the concert.

The festive concert is set to take place on Sunday November 21st 2021 at the magnificent London Palladium. Sande and Arthur will be joining the previously confirmed acts Will Young, Rag’n’Bone Man, Mica Paris and Jazz legend Jamie Cullum. The event will be presented by Harriet Scott and former Boyzone member Ronan Keating, the “Life Is A Rollercoaster” singer will also be joining the musical acts on stage. Scott and Keating announced the event’s new additions on Monday 8th November 2021 via an appearance on the ‘Magic Radio Breakfast Show’.

In other news, next week will see a possible return to the charts for Keating. The Irish singer’s new album Songs From Home is set to be released on 12th November 2021. The 44-year-old pop veteran has carefully chosen a dozen tracks that celebrate and honour his heritage. The release consists of the chosen twelve songs as well as one original recording. The album will be released via Deca Records, the British record label which has become an institution within the music industry after nearly a century in the business.

A press release for the album has given the following statement, “The album toasts Ronan Keating’s love for Irish music, as well as its continued significance in his life. Celebrating traditional poetry and folklore alongside contemporary pieces, ‘Songs From Home’ forms the ultimate soundtrack to Ronan’s personal story. Masterfully, Ronan weaves between unheard tales of his youth to artists embedded in Ronan, and Ireland’s, substantial musical heritage.”

The Dublin born singer’s new album features collaborations with many celebrated artists. On the track “No Frontiers”, Keating duets with Irish singer Mary Black. Black started her career in 1975 and has become a key figure and icon within the folk music genre. Within the album, Keating also pays homage to late American Irish singer Mic Christopher on the late singer’s track “Heyday”. Christopher is known for his solo work as well as the founding member of the band The Mary Janes, the group disbanded in 1999 after 9 years together.

The singer became a solo artist and his first solo EP Heyday was released after a motorcycle accident. In support of the new release, Christopher joined The Waterboys on tour in 2001. After a performance on tour, Christopher was found unconscious after he accidentally fell and struck his head on a step. The 32-year-old singer was taken to hospital but tragically lost his life after lapsing into a coma due to swelling in the brain. The album also features the track ”Summer In Dublin” which sees Keating reflect on the summer of 1990, an era which the singer remembers fondly, as it was just before Boyzone catapulted into fame.

It has been announced that Liam Gallagher, Emeli Sandé, Aitch, and many more will be joining Manchester International Festival (MIF) for a live online sing-along, tomorrow, 28th May, at 7.30pm.

Residents of Greater Manchester are invited to take part in the project, asked to “throw open your doors and windows to join friends and neighbours in a city-wide, spirits-lifting, socially-distanced community singalong.” The project is entitled ‘Together in One Voice’, and anyone can watch the livestream on MIF Live, the MIF YouTube channel, or on BBC Radio Manchester.

The one-off event will include a set list of songs including ‘Wonderwall’, the incredibly apt ‘Dancing in the Streets’, and ‘You Are Not Alone’. Find the full set-list at the end of this post. Introducing their own songs will be Liam Gallagher, Mark Owens, James, Aitch, and Emeli Sandé, to name a few. A total of six songs will be performed, prefacing the weekly clap for carers, which will take place at 8pm.

Singer Tom Walker, who will be taking part, said, “It’s great to be part of Together in One Voice, Manchester has been such a massive inspiration to me over the years.” One of his hit songs, ‘Leave A Light On’, will be on the set list for tomorrow evening.

When singing with their friends and families, partakers can listen to the soundtrack recorded by choirs and musicians who have worked with Musical Director Dan McDwyer to create tracks to sing along to. What’s more, footage from the event, which the council hopes to capture through drones, street cameras and residents’ own phones, will then be edited together for an extended broadcast on MIF Live on 31 May. As explained by event director Rose Marley, the film will also include socially distanced interviews with residents.
