‘Reverence’ shaped the electronic music scene immediately with the runaway success of ‘Insomnia.’ A track featuring lyrics about the narrator’s struggle with insomnia, Nexus.Radio says this ‘strike[s] a chord with clubgoers.’ Relatability was not the only key to the song’s success. Electronic Groove calls the track ‘one of the most recognizable pieces of electronic music ever created’ noting its ‘enthralling build up, Sister Bliss’ sharp synth lines, and Maxi Jazz’s unmistakable spoken-word delivery’ as elements which have allowed it to stand the test of time. The song reached 27 on the UK Singles Chart and Number 1 on the UK Dance Chart. Rereleased in 1996, it peaked at number 3 on the UK Singles Chart. ‘Insomnia’ achieved popularity worldwide, entering the Top 10 on charts in Austria, Denmark, Flanders, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, and Sweden.

In 2015, Swedish DJ Avicii remixed the song, calling the version ‘Insomnia 2.0 (Avicii Remix).’ This was done as part of ‘Faithless 2.0,’ a reimagining of their catalog that included contributions from electronic greats such as Tiësto, Armin van Buuren and Claptone. Sister Bliss told DJ Mag of the Avicii remix, ‘it connected with a whole new fanbase that weren’t even born when we started.’

The band continued their success into the streaming era. After a seven-year recording hiatus, ‘All Blessed’ was released in 2020. Xs Noize called it a ‘powerful beacon of light in electronica.’ The album peaked at number 6 on the UK Albums Chart.

Over their career, Faithless has achieved 10 UK Top 10 singles, six Top 5 albums (three at Number 1) and global sales exceeding 20 million albums, as well as garnering close to one billion streams. The list of Faithless’ accolades are more than warranting of a glorious celebration on the Bristol Harbourside. But the band seeks to also bring a deeper meaning to their new era of live performing.

After the tragic passing of legend Maxi Jazz in 2022, Sister Bliss and Rollo are returning to performance with the aim to create a show that both celebrates the genre Faithless was instrumental in creating as well as being a remembrance of Maxi himself. To do this, the band as enlisted Jvan Morandi (Jean-Michel Jarre), acclaimed show designer, as well as a close cohort of collaborators. Together, they will create a show described as punky, funky, uplifting and emotionally charged. And on the 30th anniversary of the band, they want to bring fans back to the energy of their very beginnings.

At the open-air show this July, Faithless will be supported by Bristol-based group, Kosheen, who are celebrating 25 years of their influential label, Resist. Also on the line-up is fellow Bristol-based DJ, Milly on Air. It will be her debut on her hometown’s beautiful Habourside, and is sure to represent the bright future of the genre of which Faithless has been a bellwether.

Faithless’ show will join the vibrant platform of Siren Bristol. Its 2026 series also features the return of The Maccabees on 23rd July, a show which has already 80% sold out. The Faithless anniversary show will be a cornerstone of the summer calendar in one of the UK’s most music-rich cities.

The 2000s marked a transformative era in music, characterised by growing diversity of genres and monumental technological advancements. These first 10 songs, released in 2005, are notable singles that reflect the era’s evolving musical landscape.

While Pop dominated the charts, other genres were growing into mainstream forces such as Hip-Hop, Rock Revival, and Latin Pop. Pioneering platforms like iTunes and YouTube – also celebrating its 20th anniversary – laid the foundation for today’s streaming-driven music culture. Several tracks of this era have risen to anthem status, each shaping their respective genres.

‘Dakota’ by Stereophonics was one of the most notable releases and is sure to be a highlight on their upcoming tour. Blending the band’s characteristic classic Rock sound with modern Rock elements, the song marked a significant shift in their musical direction. It achieved commercial success, reaching No.1 on the UK Singles Chart, and played a crucial role in reaffirming the relevance of guitar-driven rock during a time when pop and electronic music were dominant.

Another standout track of 2005 was Akon’s ‘Lonely’ – a track showcasing the rapper’s distinctive blend of R&B, Hip-Hop, and Pop. Its instantly recognisable hook is a pitch-shifted, sped-up sample from Bobby Vinton’s ‘Mr. Lonely’ (1962). ‘Lonely’ played an important role in pioneering Hip-Hop’s presence in mainstream music, topping the charts in multiple countries, including the UK, Australia, and Germany.

The second single from Oasis’ album ‘Don’t Believe the Truth’ made its mark in 2005. ‘The Importance of Being Idle,’ is widely regarded as one of the standout tracks from the album, and reflected the band’s ongoing love for British Rock, incorporating elements reminiscent of The Beatles’ Psych-Pop era. It debuted at No.1 on the UK Singles Chart and remains a concert staple, further cementing Oasis’ legacy in Rock music. Fans can hope it will be featured on the setlist for their 2025 Tour.

Nizlopi’s ‘JCB Song’ is a distinctive track reflective of the UK’s acoustic and indie music scene in the mid-2000s, introducing a more acoustic, Folk-inspired sound to mainstream audiences. The track’s simple arrangement of guitar, bass, and piano, combined with a catchy melody and relatable themes of childhood innocence, resonated widely, and propelled the track to No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart.

Daft Punk’s ‘Technologic’ from ‘Human After All’ became a fan favourite despite not being released as a single. The song’s minimalist electronic production, robotic vocals, and repetitive, hypnotic lyrics captured the essence of the French duo’s unique style and their exploration of the relationship between technology and modern life. ‘Human After All’ reached the Top 10 in the UK Albums Chart and was certified gold in France within the first few weeks of its release.

‘I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor’, the debut single by British Rock band Arctic Monkeys, topped the UK Singles Chart, a remarkable achievement considering it gained popularity largely through internet attention and word of mouth, without traditional promotion from a major record label. Driven by Garage Rock influences, the track’s raw sound, energetic guitars, and driving rhythm, illustrated the core of Indie Rock in the mid-2000s.

Robbie Williams also made waves in 2005 with his song ‘Tripping’ from the album ‘Intensive Care’. The track’s gritty guitar riff and introspective lyrics highlight a shift from Williams’ earlier Pop sound, exploring themes of disillusionment and the emotional challenges of fame (a central topic in his recent biopic). The song reached No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart, further solidifying Williams’ place in the British Pop music landscape.
