Originally scheduled to come out in September, the album finally premiered last Friday and is available on CD, vinyl and all streaming platforms.
Dub Pistols are well known for drawing inspiration from various genres and mixing influences in a seemless fashion creating a catchy electronic blend of oldschool reggae, light drum’n’bass and positive dub rthythms. Traditionally, the band invites a wide group of their friends, established artists and rising names to collaborate and give each of their albums its distinctive flavour. Resident features Seanie T, Lindy Layton and MC Navigator return once again to bring life to ‘Cool Out Son‘ and ‘Dark Days Dark Times‘, released earlier this year in support of the album premiere.

Rhoda Dakar, best known as the lead singer of ska legends The Bodysnatchers and a living 2 Tone icon comes along to deliver the unifying anthem ‘Stand Together‘ while the renowned ragga veterans Ragga Twins turn on the heat on the electric jungle track ‘Two Generals‘. Addict also sees Dub Pistols team up with the likes of Cheshire Cat, Horseman and General Jah Mikey. Rising London MC Natty Campbell steals the show as guest singer on three tracks, and recently shared his gratitude to the overwhelming support of the album since its premiere.

Addict currently stands at #15 at the iTunes UK Top Albums charts and is heading straight to becoming one of Dub Pistols’ most commercially successful record to date. The record’s release page at Sunday Best Recordings highlighst some of the reviews and comments that pretty much sum up the predominantly positive reception from fans and critics alike.

DJ Magazine gives Addict a 9/10 and praises producer King Yuuf for elevating “the production up another level” to deliver “multi-racial collective’s strongest LP yet”. Similarly, Electronic Sound names the record as one of the highlights of the year as a” defiant riposte to the misery of these dark times“.

Alongise the album premiere on Friday 16 October, Dub Pistols released a video for the fourth single ‘Go Tell Your Friends‘. Featuring veteran reggae singer Horseman, the track showcases everything Addict is all about – good music, positive energy and strong feelgood dub vibes.

Dub Pistols released a brand new video for ‘Dark Days Dark Times‘. The single first came out in July this year, and will feature on the band’s upcoming studio album Addict. The record was set for September release which has now been postponed for 16 October 2020 through Sunday Best Recordings.

‘Dark Days Dark Times‘ feature the legendary MC Navigator and Seanie T as returning guest vocals and Dub Pistols’ regular partners in crime. Atmospheric and powerful, the track acts as a ruthless commentary on the troublesome times we live in, but also as a somewhat optimistic call for change. A simple yet fitting visualization, the video focuses on imagery of global events revolving around equal rights demonstrations, political campaigns, environmental crisis and riots.

The release is the third official premiere from Dub Pistols’ forthcoming eight album. Earlier in June the band dropped the video for ‘Stand Together‘ featuring Rhoda Dakar, followed by ‘Cool Out Son‘ with vocals by Lindy Layton and Seanie T. The new LP Addict was originally scheduled to come out on 11 September but has now been moved for later in October this year.

Meanwhile, the album is already available to pre-order alongside other merch, facemasks and limited signed edition CDs and vinyl. With a month until the new official release day, Addict is already generating enough hype to keep rising in the UK pre-order album charts, currently sitting at #26.

Earlier in September, Dub Pistols performed at the Summer Jammin Festival in Norfolk. Part of the Summertime Social Series, the event was one of the rare socially distanced events to go ahead in the UK this Summer. The band is seemingly planning several additional live shows in support of Addict‘s release but more information is to be revealed soon. The only confirmed gig at this point is an intimate show on 12 December at Club 85 in Hitchin

Last week Dub Pistols was set to headline at this year’s edition of the very special Mucky Weekender Festival, curated by the band’s very own Barry Ashworth, with support by the likes of Gentleman’s Dub Club, Ragga Twins, Too Many T’s, Don Letts, Rodney P, Natty Campbell, and many more. Sadly, the festival was canceled due to the ongoing restrictions on live events, but Dub Pistols confirmed the dates for the 2021 edition for 10 and 11 September at The Shack, East Sussex.

The Summertime Social festival is running throughout August and September and is hosted in the large open space of the Norfolk Showground, located in the outskirts of Norwich. As stated on the official website, it is curated with the sole purpose of “bringing live performance back, so we can enjoy what we love and have missed, in a safely socialising context in the great outdoors“. All events are hosted in full compliance with official COVID-19 guidelines. With recent months marked with sporadic heat waves and constantly changing government updates regarding live social events, the news are sure to be met with joy and excitement from music fans itching to get out in the sun and add at least one festival to their 2020 summer memories. The event is supposed to be a “special socially distanced show” and certainly one to remember after all those months spent in lockdown.

The live performance is scheduled just in time for Dub Pistols’ highly anticipated eight studio album Addict set for release on 11 September via Sunday Best Recordings. In a review published on the band’s website, DJ Mag gave Addict a 9/10, calling it their “strongest LP yet“, while the official announcement on their label page promises a “melting pot of dubwise sensibility, junglist riddims and feelgood party anthems“.

In June Dub Pistols released the first single off the new record – ‘Stand Together‘, a strong anti-racism anthem calling for unity and featuring Rhoda Dakar, the lead singer of The Bodysnatchers and a living 2 Tone legend. The song perfectly captured to dominant feeling surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement and was backed up with a powerful video celebrating crucial historical events in the fight for equal rights.

The track was since followed by two more singles with guest appearances from familiar names the band has worked with continuously throughout their career. Their second song ‘Dark Days Dark Times‘ came out in July and carried over the tone and message of ‘Stand Together’ featuring MC Navigator and Seanie T.

Earlier in August, Dub Pistols brought back the positive summer vibes with their third track and video for ‘Cool Out Son‘. Here, alongside Seanie T is Lindy Layton, previously of Beats International and guest vocalist on Dub Pistols’ ‘Baby I Love You‘, ‘Our Life‘, ‘Rock Steady‘ and ‘I’m In Love’.
