Sharing the announcement on social media, the duo wrote in their Instagram caption they were, “gassed to announce this run”, and, “unbelievably excited to be playing a bunch of cities close to our hearts as well as visiting some places we’ve never played before”.

The Russell brothers will be kicking off their tour at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado in mid-September. They’ll be stopping off at venues around the US before heading to the UK and Europe in October.

The duo will start their European dates off in Dublin playing Vicar Street on the 6^th October. They will then play the O2 Academy in Bristol on the 12^th October and the independent warehouse venue SWG3 Galvanizers in Glasgow on 13^th October. They will then tour around Europe before finishing their tour at The Roundhouse in London on the 25^th October. For tickets see here.

Fans of the breakbeat act can catch their set at one of the many UK and Europe festivals they have lined up over the summer including Gala23’, Love Saves the Day, Primavera Sound, AVA Festival, Lost Village, End of the Road, and at Parklife for the second year in a row. Last year the duo played Wide Awake Festival, the independent festival that showcases new and unique acts.

Before Overmono, the brothers from Monmouth had solo careers in music with Tom making industrial techno under the moniker Truss and his younger brother Ed making dubstep under the name Tessela. In 2015, the two paired up spending a couple of weeks in a cottage making music together.

Good Lies, Overmono’s debut album, was released on the 12^th May. Lush, atmospheric, and spacey the brothers combine cold breakbeats with echoey sampled vocals on the thirteen tracks to create ambient dance music that will please festival crowds.

Talking to The Fader this week, the brothers mused on the direction of dance music towards the sentimental. “The music we’re drawn to the most is music that you could listen to, depending on how you’re feeling that day, you could hear the same song in a different way”, Ed articulated. “That’s something we’re not consciously aiming for in the studio, but over the years of making music, we’ve realized it’s what we’re always gravitating towards: that in-between state of emotions when you’re not sure if you’re laughing or crying or both at the same time.”

With the ominous caption, “Are you listening?”, the venue confirmed they’ve heard fans’ pleas to save the now iconic venue in a reel on Instagram that announced 2026 will hopefully see the reopening of Printworks.

Back in October, the Printworks team announced on their social media that their final season would be their “biggest season to date” and that “discussions regarding the designs, planning and delivery of a future Printworks continue”. The fate of the beloved venue was up in the air as its owner British Land planned to redevelop the club into office blocks and luxury flats much to the disappointment of UK-based music lovers.

Whilst nothing is set in stone yet, Simeon Aldred, co-owner and head of strategy at Broadwick Live, told the Guardian there are plans in the works. He said he’s heard “the classic gentrification narrative the last few weeks: terrible landlords closing you down, those kinds of negative vibes. But to be honest, British Land invited us in, [the creation of Printworks] was as much their idea as ours. So I want to give them some credit for that. We can’t announce that [the reopening] is definitely happening, we haven’t signed any contracts, but the shape of the principles for a deal are there, and we’re going to be putting in for planning permission in the next few weeks.”

Last bank holiday weekend, loyal Printworks fans collected to bid a fond (but perhaps temporary) farewell to the venue. The four shows, hosted from Friday 28^th April – Monday 1^st May, included the most legendary artists in dance music from around the globe.

Opening the festivities, Black Coffee made his Printworks debut alongside Maya Jane Coles and newcomer AMÉMÉ. Saturday saw a house-heavy line-up including Camelphat, Stephan Bodzin, Adriatique, Mind Against plus Jimi Jules, Carlita, Cassian. Drum n’ bass titans Sub Focus & Dimensions + MC ID, and Kyrist & SP:MC graced the stage on Sunday. The venue’s final night for three years featured sets from Peggy Gou, Dixon, DJ Koze, HAAi, TSHA, Prospa, and a surprise guest spot from breakbeats duo Bicep to close the event.

Printworks first opened its doors to partyers in January 2017. Previously the 6000-capacity venue in Canada Water was home to the largest printing factory in Western Europe – where the pages of the Daily Mail and Evening Standard got their start. The halls filled with machines make the perfect industrial setting for thumping electronic club music. Fingers crossed it will continue to showcase cutting-edge acts in three years’ time.

The venue previously hosted Dua Lipa’s Studio 2054 live-stream concert in support of her second studio album, Future Nostalgia (2020), after her tour was postponed due to the pandemic. Special guests included Angèle, Bad Bunny, the Blessed Madonna, Elton John, FKA Twigs, J Balvin, Kylie Minogue, and Miley Cyrus. The Chemical Brothers’ “Free Yourself” music video (2018) was filmed on the premises as well as scenes from The Batman (2022).

Fresh off releasing his latest album Notes From The Underground a month ago, High Contrast’s remix turns the heat up and adds extra power to the main drum’n’bass elements of the track. Maintaining the original melodies and gentle tones of the single, it subtly replaces parts of the instrumentation with more conventional electronic tropes, resulting in a more energetic and upbeat club hit. Barrett has been active for more than 20 years, using his widely recognised artistic nickname High Contrast since 2000 when he also signed for Hospital Records. As the renowned London-based independent label describes him, he “needs no introduction any more” since “the Welsh wonder has smashed his way through the D+B scene and has become one of its iconic and much respected heroes“. A leading name in the UK electronic scene, High Contrast has released seven studio albums and 2 EPs, and has taken parts in various remix collaborations and compilations, including the Isles of Wonder, the official soundtrack of the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The Welsh DJ dropped his latest record Notes From The Underground on 4 December 2020 via 3 Beat Production where he signed back in 2016 for his previous album Night Gallery. Yet another strong release with powerful guests and somewhat oldschool approach, the album features 14 tracks that seemlessly blend contemporary electronic music, liquid funk and jungle beats. Notes From The Underground is still relatively fresh, but has already seen positive reviews from fans and critics, with DJ Mag commenting on the album that “sees him draw on sounds and techniques from the modern d&b scene’s junglist roots” while The Arts Desk calls it “a deep, elegaic and occasionally beautiful listen“.

‘Freedom‘ is the fourt track from Portals, the critically acclaimed recent team-up between the genre titans Sub Focus and Wilkinson. Released on 9 October 2020, the album was the successful result of the two DJs’ isolated collaborative work at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in the inspiring rural surroundings of Bath.

The record featured the huge singles ‘Illuminate‘, ‘Just Hold On‘, ‘Air I Breathe‘ and ‘Turn The Lights Off‘ and managed to reach #68 in the Official Albums Chart while naturally topping the UK Dance Albums Charts. ‘Freedom‘ is the fifth official single from Portals, released today alongside High Contrast’s fresh remix of the track.

The drum & bass mix starts with a distinctive Australian flavour, jumping straight into ShockOne’s explosive ‘Follow Me‘ followed by one of the absolute highlights of the year in Pendulum’s huge comeback ‘Driver‘. Aside taking the world by storm upon its release in September, and steadily approaching 3 million streams in Spotify, the song recently won the Best Track Award at the 12th Drum and Bass Arena Awards.

The UKF mix includes three tracks by Dimension: ‘Don’t Sleep‘ , ‘Hatred‘ and ‘Love To Give‘ all expected to appear on the British DJ’s highly anticipated upcoming debut record Organ. Two singles come straight from Metrik’s hugely successful third album Ex Machina, released in June 2020 via Hospital Records. At the end London-based Fox Stevenson delivers his energetic ‘Like That‘ as the perfect conclusion of the epic mix. 

The annual dubstep compilation starts with the collaboration between the American producers GRiZ and Blunts & Blondes setting the modd in style with their hit ‘Juicy‘. Fox Stevensons also makes a solid appearance here with ‘Just Don’t Mind‘, alongside the traditional entries by the likes of Doctor P, PhaseOne, Zeds Dead and Feed Me. The Best of Dubstep 2020 finishes with the melodic and uplifting ‘Elevate‘ by the English DJs Tisoki and Upgrade featuring vocals by Monstercat’s latest recruit Courtney Drummey. 

Created in 2009 by Luke Hood, UKF started as a platform for friends to share and discover new music. The idea quickly became very popular with its subscribers and followers continuing to increase to this day, and expanding over several YouTube channels, live events and widely celebrated annual compilations. Operating at the very heart of the British drum & bass and dubstep scene and championing an impressive list of influential artists, the label celebrated its 10th anniversary last year and arguably achieved its mission to become “the home of bass music“. 

Coming just in time for Christmas day, the Best of Drum & Bass and Dubstep 2020 mixes will surely keep the endless lockdown home party going all the way to New Year’s Eve, and is one thing we can all enjoy together regardless of which Tier we welcome 2021 in. In a thorough overview of the ceremony, the leading electronic label and promoted UKF rightfuly states that the results “reflect resilience, talent and innovation this year, and the awards try to show respect to this as much as possible. No single ceremony can congratulate all those worthy in the scene, but the Drum&BassArena Awards certainly does its best to celebrate as many talented individuals as possible” The full ceremony alongside all interviews and acceptance videos can be seen on the YouTube video bellow.

As stated in the official Drum&Bass Arena Awards’ website, all winners have been exclusively selected by electronic public votes, with the exception of the Hall of Fame Award given by fellow DJs and industry professionals, and the Critics Choice Award chosen by bloggers and writers. As usual, the awards were heavily dominated by British producers, with few international honorary mentions such as the Australian drum’n’bass giants Pendulum who won their first ever prize for Best Live Stream for their live performance at Spitbank Fort back in October, and then followed it by also winning the Best Track award for their killer comeback ‘Driver‘ from September 2020.

Without any surprises, the biggest winner of the night was the renowned London independent label Hospital Records who won the Best Label award for seventh consecutive year and also claimed the Best Event for their Hospitality series across the UK. Three members of their extensive current roster also managed to claim prizes for their individual accomplishments, with Metrik winning the prestigious award for Best Producer, Inja being voted as Best MC and the Brazillian DJ S.P.Y going home with the prize for Best Remix for his re-work of ‘You Got Me‘ by Kings Of The Rollers, also signed for Hospital Records.

In the other categories voted by the general public, Alex Mark Calvert knows as A.M.C was honoured as Best DJ following a productive 2020 and praised worldwide by for the likes of Insomniac for “his attention to detail, technical articulation and patience paying off more and more with every year“. Best Newcomer for the last year was the rising Dutch producer Waeys who dropped his EP Objection via Overview Music, while the Best Newcomer Label was the Bristol-based Sofa Sound. Dutch heavyweights Noisia’s very own Noisia Radio was selected as Best Podcast.

With regards to full studio records, the main award for Best Album went to British d’n’b/jungle DJ Shy FX’ Raggamuffin Reloaded, a remix compilation of his critically acclaimed Raggamuffin Soundtape (2019), beating Metrik’s Ex Machina and Alix Perez’ Without End. Halogenix’ EP Dragon Force was chosen for Best Artwork, courtesy of Bertie Simpson. Last but not least, Katie Boyle from the leading drum’n’base duo Koven deservedly snatched the prize for Best Vocallist following her versatile vocal display in Butterfly Effect (2020).

‘Offender‘ is the sixth new track from Dimension this year, following ‘Don’t Sleep‘, ‘Love to Give‘, ‘Saviour‘, ‘Hatred‘ and ‘Remedy‘. The single premiered on Friday via the official UKF channels, and offers a fiery rave banger for those endless stay-at-home lockdown parties, taking a sharp turn away from Dimension’s signature vocal-led and more melodic drum’n’bass comfort zone.

Promoted as the fourth official single off Organ, the new track is in fact the seventh standalone release by Dimension to be featured on the upcoming record. Back at the end of 2018 Etheridge collaborated with drum’n’bass titan Sub Focus for the silver-certified ‘Desire‘ – an immediate genre classic that peaked at 51 in the UK singles chart after 9 weeks and cemented Dimension as one of the most exciting names in the scene. The rising DJ kept the fire burning in 2019 with the anthemic ‘Devotion‘ featuring Cameron Hayes on vocals, as the second highlight in Organ.

Despite the mass lockdown and ongoing events restrictions preventing Dimension’s iconic live sets, the DJ kept dropping new tracks from the album throughout 2020, starting with the atmospheric ‘Love to Give‘ featuring Billy Lockett and Culture Shock, the moody ‘Saviour‘ with Sharlene Hector, the team-up with E11E for the heavy banger ‘Hatred‘, and topping it all off with the beautiful melodies and TS Graye’s soaring vocals in ‘Remedy‘. Shortly before releasing the latest ‘Offender‘, Etheridge finally shared more details on Organ for UKF:

“In the end, the reason I decided to commit to the album project was because I think I’ve become more self-assured, and in-turn become confident in the artist that I am. I wanted to do something that develops a deeper look into my sound – and also – create a musical timestamp of who I am as both an artist and a person. As an artist, I’ve learnt you don’t have to be shy with how you express yourself, and an album really allows you the creative freedom to show this.”

Following a huge 2019 which saw Dimension play sold-out shows across the world, including the iconic Rampage 2019 Festival, Etheridge was forced to isolate away from what he does best – bring his infectious energy directly to his audience. Making the most of lockdown live, Dimension finished the production of his highly anticipated debut Organ and even managed to sneak in an exclusive virtual set from a secret London location.

Next Tuesday 15 December the DJ is expected to return to live performances at the renowned Foreverland festival in Prague alongside Artful Dodger, James Hype, Notion, and many more. Dimension’s next UK gig is at the O2 Victoria Warehouse in Manchester on 27 March 2021, supposedly following the release of the record, with several headline shows expected to be announced soon provided the official government guidelines allow live parties to go ahead.

Speaking about their upcoming set, the artists stated: “The cinematic and expansive backdrop felt like the perfect physical representation of the album.” Dating back to the 10th century, the Corfe Castle stands proudly above the village of the same name in Dorset and is one of the most iconic surviving buildings from the Civil War. With its timeless ruins, grand architecture and surrounding nature one can hardly imagine a more suitable location to host Sub Focus and Wilkinson official celebration of their long anticipated experimental joined project.

Portals was officially released last Friday and is available on standard CD and LP from here, or ready to stream on all digital platforms. The album features the four main singles ‘Illuminate‘, ‘Air I Breathe‘, ‘Just Hold On‘ and ‘Turn The Lights Off‘, alongside seven other track that immediately form one of the most significant drum’n’bass project of the year. The record was received extremely well upon its premiere, with fans across social media platforms praising its fresh take on the genre, brave experimentation and vast sonic scope.

Centred around the idea of escapism and teleporting to different realities, Portals sends its listeners to a journey across the open outer space of electronic music production with its grand compositions, real instrumentations and gentle melodies. Speaking about the exciting release, Wilkinson shared his gratitude for all of the support and added: “2020 has been testing to say the least but I hope this record brings a bit of joy to you all“.

Well known for huge club anthems and drum’n’bass classics, both Sub Focus and Wilkinson approached Portals in a very different state of mind and context. Talking about their influences and recording process for UKF they agreed the album “truly represents their inspirations” and was created to allow “listeners to delve into an immersive musical journey and escape from the shambles that is life right now“.

As part of the album promotion, Sub Focus and Wilkinson performed an exciting back-to-back set for BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix series, available to listen online. In the 2-hour performance, the DJs covered almost the entirety of Portals, iconic tracks from their own reperoirs and favourite genre classic in a brilliant mix that only reminded us how much we miss live shows. The latest single shares similar melodies and instrumental ideas as their previous collaborations but develops into a darker drum’n’bass tune with a menacing twist reminiscent of earlier genre classics by the likes of Noisia and Sub Focus himself. It is the second drop where the track really leaves its orbit before ending in the vast open sonic space, a recurrent theme of the upcoming Portals. The official audio visualisation was premiered on UKF immediately after its release on Monday.

Sub Focus and Wilkinson’s forthcoming collaboration is set for new horizons with more freedom to experiment, improvise and utilise life instrumentation than ever heard from their solo works. All four releases so far have showcased their signature styles but add extra sonic layers and production details worthy of a standalone project.

The team-up of such highly successful music producers, raw talents and industry titans in their own merits has sparked a lot of interest ever since Sub Focus and Wilkinson joined forces for a UK and European tour in 2019 culminating in an already iconic headline set at Rampage Festival. What followed since was a series of popular releases and collaborative live sets. Earlier this year, both DJs kickstarted their one month residency for Radio 1 with an epic back-to-back set which was the first time ‘Turn The Lights Off‘ was played live.

In an intersting article for UKF on the current state of the genre during the global pandemic, Scott Claridge states that “artists are being forced to push themselves creatively, some of them renewing their musical identities in order to adapt to a constantly fluctuating environment“. 

Those words resonate even louder in the context of Sub Focus and Wilkinson’s ambitious sonic journey that is set to bring a fresh rework on a genre that has gone somewhat stale and repetative in recent years. Recorded in Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios as one of the most creative and imaginative places for electronic music creation on the planet, Portals sounds more and more exciting with every single premiere and its Friday release simply can’t come soon enough.
