As we edge into January, concert goers and festival lovers will be starting to look at their calendars for 2026, anxiously planning for what their work leave or Christmas money can accommodate. No doubt some will be aiming to camp in their usual patch at Donington, or be taking deep breaths in preparation for the trauma of the Glastonbury ticket sale (it’s okay, you’ve got another year to brace for that one!). But some might be looking for a new experience or their first festival trip. This is what you can expect from the biggest festivals next year.

Glastonbury – oh have a year off will you?

Owing to the fact that the site at Worthy Farm works a day job as a dairy farm, it requires a fallow year every so often to give the fields time to recover from all the trampling. Glastonbury 2027 has been announced to fall between the 23 and 27 of June, with the first wave of acts being revealed some time in March 2027.

Download – this one’s for the Millenials

This year’s Download Festival is sure to delight fans of 00’s “nu metal”, with sets from both Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park. This will be the latter’s first UK festival appearance since singer Emily Armstrong picked up the microphone from Chester Bennington, who passed away in 2017. The top billing is rounded off by Guns N’ Roses, who are very familiar to the Midlands festival. Other highlights include German party mob Electric Callboy and an unprecedented appearance from rap legends Cypress Hill. It runs from the 10 to 14 of June.

Reading and Leeds – another year of testing boundaries- and our patience?

For the uninitiated, Reading and Leeds run the same lineup on alternating days across both sites. Historically they have booked a diverse assortment of music, from the biggest names in the charts, to rock royalty, to underground hiphop and grime. In recent years however, the diversity has been sacrificed in pursuit of a younger audience, rabid for only the latest trends. One of the things they always do well is championing British music, and 2026 is a landmark year for that. In lieu of any legacy act, all but one of their 6 headliners is from the UK, with that one being Ireland’s Fontaines D.C. Expect huge performances from Raye, Charli XCX, and drum ‘n’ bass icons Chase And Status on their dual main stages, from the 27 to 30 of August.

Isle of Wight – a great all-rounder for anyone

Held by the water near Newport on the Isle of Wight, this one can often be overlooked in favour of its more extravagant competition. But the next lineup is very robust, sporting big headliners from Scotland in the ever-endearing Lewis Capaldi, electronic chart-topper Calvin Harris, and England’s darlings, The Cure. A fantastic mix of old and new for families and all ages, including Rick Astley, and current favourites The Last Dinner Party. Runs 18 to the 21 of June.

TRNSMT – who needs vowels when you’ve got big acts?

Scotland’s biggest summer festival has been making statements in recent years, and in 2026 they’re looking to draw fans to Glasgow with the promise of Richard Ashcroft, formerly of The Verve, and Kasabian. Our friend Lewis Capaldi will also be headlining in his home city. While it may not be the sunniest place in the British Isles, people won’t miss a chance to dance to the likes of Nile Rogers & Chic or CMAT. Runs 19 to 21 June.

Wireless – radio silence?

Taking place in London’s Finsbury park, Wireless Festival is typically a big deal. However there have been no confirmed dates or acts for July 2026. Watch this space if you enjoy contemporary rap and electronic music.

All hands to the pump! Download have just announced their 2024 day tickets as well as the final remaining weekend tickets.

Day tickets for this year’s Download Festival have just literally gone on sale.

Along with the remaining weekend passes, the Donnington Park festival has now launched what is ostensibly a limited run of day tickets ahead of June.

So whether it’s Fall Out Boy that whets your whistle on Saturday’s, or if it’s Friday’s showing of the stellar Queens Of The Stone age that gets your focus, or if you’re after catching Avenged Sevenfold on Sunday you can, quite literally, take your pick—for now.

Naturally, there is plenty to pick from beyond the headliners. QOTSA day will feature the likes of Royal Blood, Polyphia, Bad Omens, Mr. Bungle and even a surprise Avalance Stage headline set from Busted. On Saturday, meanwhile, Fall Out Boy will be joined on the Apex Stage by The Offspring, Enter Shikari, BABYMETAL and more, while elsewhere that day will include While She Sleeps, Tom Morello, Billy Talent and Holding Absence. Then, there’s one massive party before A7X on the Sunday – with Bowling For Soup, Sum 41 and Limp Bizkit all getting things nice and warmed up for the Huntington Beach metallers. On the other stages you can catch fellow heavyweights like Machine Head, Corey Taylor and The Used.

Download Festival is a rock festival created by Terrance Gough, held annually at the Donington Park motorsport circuit in Leicestershire, England (since 2003); in Paris, France (since 2016); at Parramatta Park, Sydney (since 2019); Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne (since 2018) and at the Hockenheimring in Baden-Württemberg, Germany (since 2022).

Download at Donington is the most popular and has hosted some of the biggest names, including Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Slipknot, Metallica, Linkin Park, Korn, Soundgarden, Motörhead, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Def Leppard, Kiss, Judas Priest, Rammstein, Status Quo, Mötley Crüe, Journey, ZZ Top, Whitesnake, Faith No More and Guns N’ Roses.

But hurry, I’m sure tickets won’t be on sale for long.

In just less than a year, we will be minus Sum 41—they will be no more.

But before this happens, the Canadian pop-punk legends will be on one massive tour, and that’s not forgetting their colossal new album!

A lot of this was by accident,” says Deryck Whibley of the genesis of Sum 41’s eighth record, Heaven :x: Hell. During lockdown, the Canadian singer/songwriter was inundated with calls and requests asking him to pen some more pop-punk bangers – which worried him. It had been several years since he’d done such a thing. But he took the plunge anyway.

At the time, Derek and his wife Ariana had just welcomed their first child into the world – Lyndon Igby. “The only thing he would mellow out to was punk rock music,” explains Deryck, who’d regularly take his son out in the car, driving around the uncharacteristically quiet streets of Los Angeles, blasting the songs that soundtracked his high school years – NOFX, Pennywise, Social Distortion, Lagwagon and Bad Religion.

This routine would repeat on a daily basis and made its way into Derek’s creative cortex. He began writing in a way that was reminiscent of Sum 41’s earlier material. These songs were, at first, due to be gifted to someone else, but eventually, he became reluctant to part with them.

Derek then spent some time trawling through Sum 41’s earlier material and realised he’d amassed quite a collection.

So, he went about adding a pop-punk tune here and a riffy rager there until the bones formed of what would become the band’s final record.

“It was all with the help of our son,” smiles Deryck, whose daughter, Quentin, was born a couple of weeks after this interview – on her mother’s birthday.

When Sum 41 first arrived on the scene in the early 2000s, they were subjected to the same kind of cynicism as many up-and-comers. Some said they were one-hit wonders, a flash in the pan that wouldn’t last. Deryck bristled at the time – not because the naysayers’ words hurt, but the suggestion that anyone else could spell the end for his band. “No one was going to decide when we would go,” he would think. “I will decide when we go.”

“It was hard to bring it up but easy to talk about,” recalls Deryck. “Although they were surprised, and didn’t necessarily feel the way I did, it was a very loving and supportive conversation.”

Sum 41’s final album Heaven :x: Hell is due out on March 29 via Rise Records.

Catch the band at Download, which takes place from June 14 – 16, 2024 at Donington Park – get your tickets now. You can also see Sum 41 live at Rock For People this summer – get your tickets here.

Remember Hoobastank? If you do, there’s probably a good reason for it!

Hoobastank is returning to the UK for a one-off twentieth anniversary show of The Reason.

The US rock band are returning to the UK for one show to celebrate the twentieth-anniversary of their seminal second album ‘The Reason’.

The album was released in 2003, and the band will be performing the album in its entirety at the show.

You can now listen to the 20th anniversary-version of ‘The Reason’ album on all streaming platforms! This exclusive version of the album also includes a previously unreleased cover of @rodstewart‘s iconic track “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?”. pic.twitter.com/E1dmx5d0NQ

— Hoobastank (@Hoobastank) January 12, 2024

The concert will take place at the o2 in Islington on the 17th of June. Tickets will go on general sale from 10 a.m. on the 1st of March, and you can buy yours here.

But don’t worry, if you miss out, the band will also be playing at Download Festival at Derby’s Donnington Park.

The announcement of the anniversary show came after the band released a twentieth anniversary version of ‘The Reason’ which featured a previously unreleased version of Rod Stewart’s ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy’.

The song, ‘The Reason’ becameone of the many ‘retro’ tracks that found a pocket of popularity on TikTok back in 2021.

The song, which spent 38 weeks in the US singles chart, also peaked at number two back in 2004.

Hoobastank themselves joined in the trend, creating an account and posting a video under the hashtag theme of #NotAPerfectPerson with the caption: “Realizing 20 years later that you named your band Hoobastank.”

Hoobsatank is an American rock band formed in 1994 in Agoura Hills, California, by lead vocalist Doug Robb, guitarist Dan Estrin, drummer Chris Hesse, and original bassist Markku Lappalainen. They were signed to Island Records from 2001 to 2012 and have released six albums and one extended play to date. Their most recent album, Push Pull, was released in May 2018. They have sold 10 million albums worldwide. The band is best known for their hit single “The Reason“.

So if you fancy a early ’00s throwback, then set your alarms for 10 a.m. on the first of March and be sure to get in the queue early because tickets will no doubt sell out rather quickly.

Whatever you reason for going to the show, I’m sure it will be a good one.

— Slipknot (@slipknot) May 16, 2023

Taking advantage of the busy summer festival circuit, Iowa metal megastars Slipknot will tour extensively through Europe, including a fair number of festival dates, which is fast becoming an annual event for the band. Drawing what is perhaps some of the largest crowds for outdoor festivals, Slipknot know how to entertain their mass of followers and this summer’s tour will be no different. For UK based audiences, a highly anticipated and mouth watering headlining set at this summer’s Download Festival in Donington Park, Derby, is sure to be one of the tour’s main highlights.

The addition of London based eclectic metal band Sleep Token will come as no surprise to their growing fan base, as the mysterious group look to take their success to even loftier heights. Akin to Slipknot, Sleep Token are a heavy group that is shrouded in mystery, as each member is anonymous, robed and masked.

Led by a frontman that only goes by the moniker of Vessel and band members who are numbered with Roman numerals, Sleep Token have made an impact seemingly overnight, as their blend of prog metal, alternative, post-rock and even indie rock has found an appeal to a variety of listeners. Undoubtedly the mystery of who the members are adds to their appeal, much as Slipknot retained an air of mystery and intrigue upon first entering the scene, with Vessel reporting that the band serve the deity Sleep. Speaking to Metal Hammer in their only interview, Vessel stated, “how we got here is as irrelevant as who we are-what matters is the music and the message. We are here to serve Sleep and project His message.”

Sleep Token are well known to carefully uphold and adhere to their anonymity, rarely speaking while on stage performing and only ever giving one single interview to date. Alongside their cultivated image however, is an arsenal of truly catchy, genre-bending music that have seen the band win plaudits from critics and fans alike. With influences that span many musical artists and forms, Sleep Token have been able to carve a niche within the scene for themselves that has seen the group quickly become a band worth talking about.

Enigmatic frontman Maynard James Keenan will be joined by his band Puscifier for their electrifying Download debut on the Opus stage on Thursday night. The band has found the time to squeeze in the festival amid their worldwide tour in support of their remix album Existential Reckoning: Re-Wired, which came out in March.

On again off again English alt-rock band Hundred Reasons will also be performing showcasing their new fifth studio album and first album in over 15 years Glorious Sunset. Watch the band’s latest music video for “Replicate” below:

Toronto hardcore band Cancer Bats, Leeds newcomers Static Dress, New York pop punk band State Champs, Newcastle metal band Rituals, and the darlings of rock & roll The Cherry Bombs are some of the much-welcomed additions to the line-up. Casey, Punk Rock Factory, Haken, Snayx, and Redhook have also been crammed into the packed bill.

The festival has also now revealed its stage splits with set times to follow. To see what bands will be playing where visit here.

Download announced the headliners for this year’s festival back in November. America’s biggest heavy metal band Metallica will be playing “TWO completely unique sets on Thursday and Saturday” according to the organisers. Legendary British rockers Bring Me the Horizon will be headlining the festival for the first time on Friday. American metal royalty Slipknot will be headlining the festival for the fourth time and closing out the festival on Sunday.

The festival previously confirmed that bands such as Five Finger Death Punch, Nova Twins, Ghost, Neck Deep, Evanescence, The Distillers, Deaf Havana, Jinjer, Placebo, Mom Jeans, Crawlers, and Architects would be amongst the hundreds of acts performing at the four-day event.

Musing with NME on the secret to the festival’s success, Download boss and booker Andy Copping said, “I think the secret is that you’ve just gotta keep driving to get better. From the very first year, we’ve tried to get better bands, better the layout, better the campsite and better the experience. You can’t rest on your laurels.”

Yonaka will be making their return to Download this year after taking part in last year’s Download pilot festival, the band played on Saturday 19th June 2021 alongside headliners Enter Shikari. The band’s frontwoman Theresa Jarvis has spoken concerning their upcoming appearance, the singer also describes her personal connection to the festival, “Aghhhh Download! Some of us have been going since we were 14 so it’s an absolute pleasure to be performing there again. The energy is always amazing and such an exciting lineup of music.”

Welsh reggae and metal group Skindred also performed at last year’s demo event and are seasoned Download performers with multiple years under their belt. Frontman Benji Webbe has also provided the following statement concerning the group’s inclusion in this year’s lineup, “Playing the Download pilot after being locked down for a year and a half was an amazing experience so being invited back to our favourite festival and spiritual home to play alongside the likes of KISS and Maiden is a dream come true. Plus we have some amazing rockin’ new tunes which we cannot wait for you all to hear.”

Last September the festival announced that the 2022 lineup would include A Day To Remember, Mastodon, Shinedown, Code Orange, Black Veil Brides, Ice Nine Kills and Creeper. The Southampton formed group also performed at last year’s pilot festival, which served as a test event to gauge the effect of COVID-19 within large crowds. Managing director of Festival Republic, UK promoter for Download Melvin Benn gave the following statement concerning the three-day event. “The pilot went extraordinarily well. Not a single person arrived on site with a positive Covid test. Everyone was incredibly compliant and were reassured that the people they were moshing with were Covid-clear.”

After the event had concluded, reports and investigations were held to examine if the pilot had been successful. The festival was part of the second phase of tests conducted by the Government’s Event Research Programme, the initiative aims to investigate and report the risks associated with event attendance during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s upcoming event will mark the festival’s return to its traditional format. The Summer festival’s star-studded roster will perform across four stages; Main Stage, Second Stage, The Dogtooth Stage and The Avalanche Stage hosted by Download’s long-term partner Kerrang! Radio. Tickets are available to purchase for both Camping and No Camping, music fans are also able to purchase RIP options which include hotel and special camping choices.

Welsh heavy metal band Bullet For My Valentine have suggested that they will be releasing new music this Friday with Spinefarm Records, who the band have been signed with since 2016.

As well as their headline slot at the Download Pilot Festival this weekend, Bullet For My Valentine have got fans excited by looking like they’re going to be releasing a new single on Friday June 18th – ahead of their festival set.

The band shared on twitter that they’ve been ‘hard at work’ on music that’s ‘guaranteed to blow your mind.’ The tweet also implies that the new music might be a bit different from what fans are used to, saying ‘Think you know Bullet For My Valentine? Think again’.

The band have also spoken about their excitement over performing at Download, the first test festival event to be taking place as the pandemic begins to draw to a close.
Their set time has been announced as 21:35 at the main stage on Sunday 20th. The last album the welsh heavy metal band released was “Gravity” in 2018, so fans have had a long wait for new material – and hopefully, the band will play their new single live at the festival just a couple of days after release. The release of the new song comes on the heels of the band’s unveiling of their new Patreon page named ‘The Army of Noise, which will be the new platform for fans to find out news and band events.

A portion of the money from each subscription will go to Teenage Cancer Trust, they announced in their tweet:
