Doom metal UK band Green Lung have announced their biggest run of UK tour dates yet. The band will be embarking on a headlining tour that will see them visit 10 UK venues this year.

The band will begin their tour at the tail end of the year, beginning in Glasgow in November and ending in London in December. Previously, Green Lung have gathered a growing following for their brand of occult metal, touring throughout Europe in support of American legends Clutch.

Despite their youth and recentness to the scene, Green Lung have released two albums to date-both of which have been warmly received by critics and fans alike. The band are currently working on releasing a third studio album.

The London quartet have drawn upon strong influences from the 70s with Pagan infused lyrical content which rounds out their folk-horror inspired aura. The band have found particular influence in the occult and folklore that is unique to the British isles and permeates British culture-usually seen on a more subtle scale. Green Lung draw upon this vibrant imagery to give the listener a truly unique experience within the world of heavy metal.

Like many of their contemporaries within the scene and outside of it, Green Lung have found a growing following in the online community, gathering a growing fanbase on platforms such as Instagram. Frontman Tom Templar, speaking after their debut release said of the online community, “we’d play gigs to, like, five people in a pub, but then these obsessive fans came from the online world.” This strong support subsequently led to the band gaining noticeable attention from the metal community, leaving the band on the verge of headlining venues in their own right.

Adhering to a staunch punk DIY ethic, Green Lung spurned the advances of major labels and signed instead to the independent Finnish label Svart Records. This ethos is certainly paying dividends for the band, with Green Lung just coming off a Download Festival appearance that is sure to have won over many new converts.

Now, the group is gearing up for what could be a defining UK headlining tour that has the potential to cement them firmly amongst the leading lights in the metal scene today. Speaking of the upcoming tour, Templar said, “since our last UK headline tour we’ve played some giant festivals, travelled around Europe in support of Clutch and added the finishing touches to our third album. We can’t wait to bring all that experience to bear onstage-we’ll be hitting some new cities, debuting new material, and bringing along some killer supports.”

Sonic Blast Festival, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, is an event that has, since its inception, played host to the stoner and doom metal genres’ finest roster of groups, and this upcoming 2022 event is no different. Performing at the festival this year-as announced in October of 2021-are legendary Dorset fuzz-pedal connoisseurs Electric Wizard, Nashville stoner/psychedelic rockers All Them Witches, Greek stoner metal band 1000mods, long-running North Carolina doom metal outfit Weedeater, and most recently, London heavy metal band Orange Goblin. After the 2021 festival was cancelled due to COVID-19, as was the case with many a festival around the world, Sonic Blast 2022 looks to be a great one indeed.

Orange Goblin, one of the most exciting recent additions to the line-up, have been at it since 1995, and since then, have put out a steady stream of records, commencing with 1997’s Frequencies from Planet Ten. The band’s latest album was 2018’s The Wolf Bites Back, a record which was well-received by critics and fans alike. Distorted Sound Magazine praised the group on their consistency and staying true to their sound, saying: “The Wolf Bites Back is potentially the most outstanding effort from the band in truly showing what they have got to offer. It’s nothing fancy, there’s nothing on there that makes it a one-trick pony, it is plain and simply an ORANGE GOBLIN album that has been amped up to 11.”

Orange Goblin has also been teasing some new music as of late, posting a picture of guitarist Joe Hoare on Instagram, accompanied by the caption: “Two weeks running in the rehearsal studio! That hasn’t happened for about 10 years but we have the best part of 4/5 new songs in the pipeline and we’re excited for the world to hear what we are cooking up!”

The band has a busy schedule ahead of them for 2022, with a whole host of tour dates and festival appearances, including Desertfest in London, New York and Berlin, Into The Grave Festival in the Netherlands, Barcelona Rock Fest in Spain and Steelhouse Festival in Wales. Full information for the group’s show schedule can be viewed here.

Hailing from Finland, the death-doom veterans Swallow the Sun have dropped a new single, “Enemy” accompanied by a music video to promote their upcoming Moonflowers album.

To accompany the sparse gloomy sound, the music video for “Enemy” punctuates slow-moving 2D Gothic-esque visuals with lyrics that fade in to and out from the screen. Wallowing in self-pity, the track battles the ‘enemy’ from within. See the video below.

Produced by Dronicon Films, the music video for “Enemy” follows the same style as their prior music video for “Woven Into Sorrow”, both dark animated adaptations of their bleak sound into visual form. The frontman Mikko Kotamäki has described their previous single “Woven Into Sorrow” as “probably the gloomiest track of the album”, as per NextMosh, with Kotamäki adding “enjoy the misery”. “Enemy” is a clear continuation of this doom and gloom, displaying their pleasure in wallowing in misery.

The music videos for “Enemy” and “Woven Into Sorrow” are to promote their upcoming album Moonflowers, released on the 19th of November. Their eighth album follows on the success of their previous, When a Shadow Is Forced into the Light, which peaked at the No.1 spot in the Finnish charts. Slowly breaking into the American market, their previous two albums have both appeared in top 20 slots in the US Heatseekers Charts.

Comprising of Mikko Kotamaki (vocals), Matti Honkonen (bass), Juuso Raatikainen (drums), Juho Raiha (guitars), and Juha Raivio (guitars), the four-piece death-doom band are long-serving veterans of the genre, pioneering a unique sound within the form.

Upon release, Moonflowers will be available as limited edition deluxe sky blue 3LP and 2CD & Art Print Box Set, limited 2CD Mediabook, Gatefold black 2LP andCD and digital album (including Bonus album), and is available for pre-order on their website here.

They begin touring the day after they release their new album Moonflowers, beginning in Mesa, Arizona. See ticket info here and tour details below.

Since the release of the new single “The Weary”, Monolord have talked about the lyrical themes and commentary presented on the upcoming album; underneath the electrifying walls of blues-tinged fuzz and moody, atmospheric riffs is a poignant message concerning the state of the world. According to a press release, drummer Esben Williams had this to say regarding the album’s themes: “To me, it’s an honest representation of how I feel about the current state of humanity.”

The first of the new songs, “The Weary”, premiered with a haunting new music video on the 14th of September on the Relapse Records YouTube channel, which can be viewed here. The track has been well-received so far, with some listeners speculating that the melancholic, melodic aspects are a sonic love letter to Black Sabbath. The song is also available on streaming services, and an array of merchandise and physical releases of the new album have been made available for pre-order, including a number of limited, deluxe edition vinyl pressings.

Your Time To Shine is comprised of five tracks, culminating in a thirty-nine minute run time. The track list is as follows:

1). The Weary
2). To Each Their Own
3). I’ll Be Damned
4). Your Time To Shine
5). The Sirens of Yersinia
