Depeche Mode are back, but not just on stage. Their new concert film, Depeche Mode: M, is set to hit cinemas worldwide in late 2025, bringing the energy of their Memento Mori tour to the big screen. Directed by acclaimed Mexican filmmaker Fernando Frías de la Parra (I’m No Longer Here, I Don’t Expect Anyone to Believe Me), the movie captures three 2023 performances at Mexico City’s Foro Sol, witnessed by nearly 200,000 fans.

But M isn’t just a concert film, it’s layered in culture. Frías weaves together live performances with rich, reflective footage that explores Mexico’s intimate relationship with death – think Día de los Muertos, Aztec iconography, and candlelit vigils, touching on the album’s themes of mortality. It’s a cinematic fusion of music and mortality, capturing how Depeche Mode’s lyrical exploration of mortality finds resonance in Mexican cultural traditions.

Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan said in a statement, “At its core, M is about the deep connection between music, culture, and people, and Fernando Frías did a beautiful job telling that story through the lens of Mexican culture and our shows in Mexico City”. It’s a nod to how universal themes: life, loss, transcendence, can be expressed through the pairing of two powerful art forms. Premiering at Tribeca Film Festival in June 2025, the film received an enthusiastic reception. Critics praised its “expressive and dynamic cinematic” approach, noting emotional live sequences set within in a broader cultural landscape.

The movie is formatted for IMAX and global cinema release starting October 28, 2025, through Sony Music Vision, Trafalgar Releasing, and special event partners. It will be shown in over 2,500 theatres across more than 60 countries, a sign of the band’s enduring international reach.

The circumstances surrounding the release of M is deeply poignant. It’s the first major cinematic project released after the death of founding member Andy Fletcher in 2022. The emotional undercurrents of Memento Mori, a title meaning “remember you must die”, are already woven into the album, but here they’re reframed within Mexico’s cultural lens.

Acclaimed songwriter and synth-pop icon Vince Clarke, whose various musical ventures include spells with Depeche Mode and Yazoo, as well as a prolific career as part of electronic duo Erasure, has announced his debut solo album. The instrumental LP, titled Songs Of Silence, spans ten tracks and is set to hit stores worldwide on November 17.

Conceived during the lockdowns of the COVID-19 pandemic and recorded at his home studio in New York, initial sessions for the solo project offered Clarke an opportunity to experiment with different textures and explore the more abstract, ambient aspects of electronic music.

As evidenced in his newly released lead single – “The Lamentations Of Jeremiah” - Clarke’s latest studio effort sees him tackle the Eurorack – a modular synthesiser format known for its limitless configurations. The first taster of what looks set to be a particularly somber record features composer Reed Hays performing a haunting cello line over ominous Eurorack-generated synth drones.

Watch the official video for “The Lamentations Of Jeremiah”, directed by Ebru Yıldız, below:

“When I first heard the song, I felt like it contained a whole lifetime within itself,” says Ebru, whose pensive, black-and-white shots of Clarke in an old house portray a brooding musician in various states of contemplation. “All of the drama and peace, anxiousness and calmness, tension and hope, and everything in between. I wanted the visuals to feel like all those extremes as well.”

For the writing process of the album, Clarke followed two rules: firstly, each song would be composed using the Eurorack, and secondly, each track would stay within a single key, with one note pervading throughout. Adhering to these limitations helped the “Just Can’t Get Enough” hitmaker tap into a creative flow that eventually blossomed into a fully-fledged album.

“I could have gone on forever, I could have not stopped,” Clarke said of his creative process in a press statement. “I was enjoying the process so much and wasn’t thinking about anyone else hearing it. But hearing it develop in my studio, in my head, learning new tricks — that’s been the best thing about this. I was in a state of shock, actually, when Mute said they wanted to release this album.”

Songs Of Silence is out November 17 on Mute and available for pre-order here.

With over 2 million tickets sold, the UK new wave synth-pop group have added an additional European run of dates which will see the tour extend into the new year.

After releasing what is the band’s 15th studio album, the duo comprising Dave Gahan and Martin Gore set out to tour Momento Mori quickly after its release and was met with stunning success and rave reviews. Such has been the response to the tour that the group has decided to add 29 additional dates across the UK, Ireland and Europe-giving fans an extra chance to see one of the UK’s most beloved and successful bands.

Over the course of Depeche Mode’s 40 plus years, the band has sold over 100 million records and toured the world on numerous occasions. One of the most influential bands of their era and beyond, Depeche Mode have had a staggering 54 songs on the UK Singles Charts and 17 top 10 albums in UK charts. Almost an immediate success within the electronic scene in the early 1980s, the band gained international recognition with their smash hit album Violator-a record featuring arguably their best known songs.

Internal divisions shook the lineup with Gahan and Gore emerging from the 90s as the only two original members left. The pair have rarely been deterred however, going on to release critically acclaimed albums, including March’s Momento Mori-an album that has garnered almost universal acclaim. The album’s first single “Ghosts Again” is considered by some as one of the best songs the band has delivered in decades.

And the Momento Mori tour has not failed to live up to the hype that the record has achieved. Sold out performances across North America and Europe, which have included a sold out Twickenham Stadium in London, have met with glowing reviews with The Guardian writing, “Dave Gahan is a mic-spinning, limb-bending theatrical marvel as the band gallop through decades’ worth of hits.”

Depeche Mode have also partnered with luxury Swiss watch making brand Hublot on the Momento Mori tour to further promote the band’s charities. The pair are supporting the Conservation Collective, a global network of foundations which promote grassroots environmental projects and initiatives with a focus on plastic pollution, waste management and environmental cleanups. Additional details on the charity can be found here.

If one thing has remained an incontestable constant in Depeche Mode’s career, it is that their crowd-pleasing triumphant live performances have left audiences desperate for more and with the Momento Mori tour set to continue, the band are giving their fans exactly what they want.

Depeche Mode have released eight remixes of their track “Ghosts Again” from their 15th studio album, Memento Mori.

The Ghosts Again (Remixes) collection includes remixes from Luke Slater, Matthew Herbert and Chris Liebling, amongst others.

Memento Mori is the first album Depeche Mode have released since the tragic passing of their bandmate, Andy Fletcher in 2022. Following the loss of their friend, founding member and synth player, frontman Dave Gahan and guitarist/keyboardist Martin Gore have channeled the emotions of such an event into a powerful and reflective album.

“Ghosts Again” focuses on themes of partings and loss, with the remixes offering different interpretations of the moving track.

Amongst the remixes is a strings-only version of the track, contributed by Davide Rossi. Rossi also recorded strings for the Memento Mori album, and said, “I wanted to do this [remix] as a tribute to my love for the band. I am so thrilled that they decided to keep it and release it.”

Chris Liebling, who teamed up with Luke Slater for another remix of “Ghosts Again” commented, “I have been a big fan of Depeche Mode for so many years. They have influenced the way that I think about music and DJ. I’m extremely grateful that I could not only do another remix, but that I also got to do it with one of the biggest legends in techno world [Luke Slater].”

Luke Slater shared his thoughts on collaborating with Depeche Mode too, saying, “When I was a kid I was buying Depeche Mode 7-inches, the early ones. I remember that well…What I love about Depeche Mode is that over the years they have just formed a world of themselves…They’ve kind of covered this timeless zone and I think that’s really special.”

Slater’s comment on Depeche Mode’s own world being formed became even more true following the passing of Andy Fletcher, with Dave Gahan and Martin Gore needing to re-establish their relationship to one another and their work dynamic as a duo.

Gahan shared, “Martin described it as two long-lost brothers meeting for the first time and having to have a real conversation. It was about getting to know each other in a different way. Not that we don’t know each other well, but in terms of having a close friendship? That’s never really been the deal between Martin and I.”

Gore explained, “Me and Dave never had any big issues or problems with each other, but we tended to be kind of distant. With there only being two of us left, that has led us to be closer and to talk more.”

These themes are very evident in this track, with collaborator Matthew Herbert saying, “I quite liked the idea of ‘We’ll be ghosts again’…everyone vanished from the dancefloor. The idea of the temporary community that’s being built.”

The track listing for Ghosts Again (Remixes) is below:

1. Ghosts Again Massano Remix
2. ‘Ghosts Again Chris Liebing vs Luke Slater Remix
3. ‘Ghosts Again Miss Grit Remix
4. ‘Ghosts Again Rival Consoles Remix
5. ‘Ghosts Again Matthew Herbert’s Feelings Remix
6. ‘Ghosts Again Davide Rossi Strings Remix
7. ‘Ghosts Again Bergsonist’s Shadow Mix
8. ‘Ghosts Again Nik Colk Void Remix

Legendary English synthpop band Depeche Mode has unveiled the acts that will be supporting them on their upcoming European tour. On the 12th April, the band took to Instagram to share the five acts that will join them on their Memento Mori tour.

Californian dark wave artist Cold Cave will start as the support act for the duo followed by the Scottish avant-pop band Young Fathers who will be supporting them for their London show. French singer Jehnny Beth (formally of the British punk band Savages) will support the band in late June and early July. Berlin-based band Hope and British trip-hop band HÆLOS will also be supporting.

Prior to the announcement, Martin Gore praised Young Fathers to NME: “I’ve been having to listen to a lot of stuff for remixes and support artists lately. A band I thought were very unique were Young Fathers. I’ve been listening to their albums and watching live performances, and they’re just so different to everything else”.

Depeche Mode has already commenced their Memento Mori world tour, their first tour in five years, which started in Sacramento on the 23rd March. Playing a mix of their classics and new songs around the globe until mid-December, the band is set to play more than 80 dates with shows in total across North America and Europe.

The European leg will be comprised of 34 dates and will kick off in the Netherlands next month. The band will be performing in London on the 17th June at Twickenham Stadium. They are also playing Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona and Madrid this Summer. For tickets see here.

Depeche Mode released their fifteenth studio album Memento Mori on the 24th March through Columbia and Mut. The brooding electro-industrial album is the band’s first record since the passing of keyboard player and founding member Andy “Fletch” Fletcher.

The fate of the iconic group from Basildon was uncertain following Fletcher’s passing in May last year. The remaining members Martin Gore and Dave Gahan were unsure whether they could continue. Gahan told the NME that he was sure “Fletch was going to outlive all of us” and his death “still doesn’t feel real”. The band decided to continue despite their apprehensions as Gore told Live Nation Entertainment, “We’re sure this is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning”.

English electronic band Depeche Mode from Basildon has announced the release date for their upcoming single, “Ghosts Again” which will be released on Thursday 9 February, as they confirmed the announcement on Friday 3 February. The band teased the release of new music on January 27 via Twitter and Instagram, indicating the release of the first single of their upcoming album, Memento Mori, which is due on March 17, via Columbia and Mute records.

Both their Instagram and Twitter post depicts a countdown, followed by a caption that reads, “time is fleeting, see what it brings.” Then they released another post confirming the release of their first single of Memento Mori, “Ghosts Again.”

Ghosts Again, the first single off Depeche Mode’s next album Memento Mori, comes out February 9th, 2023. Set your clocks for Feb 9, 6:00 PM CET/5:00 PM GMT / 11:00 AM ET / 8:00 AM PT. pic.twitter.com/HqgmSeeprt

— Depeche Mode (@depechemode) February 3, 2023

This marks the first album in 6 years (Spirit-2017) as well as the first release, following the death of beloved keyboardist, Andy Fletcher (Fletch) in May last year. Depeche Mode frontman, Dave Gahan broke his silence about the new album and single. Initially, Dave was hesitant about the idea of making a 15th Depeche Mode record. He told NME, “It wasn’t something I dived into, I have got to say. At first, I put up quite a bit of resistance. I would say, I don’t know if I still want to do this; all the usual kind of stuff, but there was a bit more of that than usual.”

Gahan also confirmed during the chat with NME that Memento Mori began construction before the death of Fletcher. He explained, “He never got to hear any of it, which is really sad to me because there are songs on this record where I know he’d be like, ‘This is the best thing we’ve had in years.’ I can hear his voice. I can also hear him saying, ‘Does every song have to be about death?!'”

The concept of Memento Mori is mostly rooted in positivity, resemblance to escapism for him and Martin Gore. He says, “The one thing I can do is make music with Martin, then we can go do our thing and hopefully that brings people together. It’s just all too much, in the world and the news right now.”

Depeche Mode announced the 15th album in October, alongside a world tour. The album’s name, Memento Mori, deliberately indicates the loss of Fletcher, who was a dear friend. a “memento mori” is an object resembling a reminder that death will always be inevitable. According to Martin Gore, the name concept was chosen prior to Fletcher’s passing. “It sounds very morbid, but I think you can look at it very positively as well. Gore says. “I think that’s how we like to interpret it too… After Fletch’s passing, we decided to continue as we’re sure this is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning.”

At a special event in Berlin yesterday, 2020 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Depeche Mode announced that they will be releasing a new album titled Memento Mori and embarking on a world tour in 2023. The Memento Mori Tour will be in support of the band’s 15th studio album, which is due to be released in the spring of 2023.
Dave Gahan and Martin Gore broke with precedent today by announcing that the Live Nation-presented tour will start on March 23rd with a unique, limited run of North American arena dates before the group flies to Europe for their summer stadium tour. These few North American dates will include performances in venues like Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena, Los Angeles’ Kia Forum, New York’s Madison Square Garden, and Chicago’s United Center, among others.

On May 16th, the band will start their stadium tour of Europe, with notable dates at the Stade de France in Paris, the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, the San Siro Stadium in Milan, and the Twickenham Stadium in London. Visit depechemode.com for more details on the tour itinerary and the sale dates for tickets. The complete list of times, locations, and cities is also provided below.

The band recently lost their keyboard player and founding member Andy Fletcher. In a press release for the announcement, Martin Gore talked about the situation: “We started work on this project early in the pandemic, and its themes were directly inspired by that time. After Fletch’s passing, we decided to continue as we’re sure this is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning.” Dave Gahan added, “Fletch would have loved this album. We’re really looking forward to sharing it with you soon, and we can’t wait to present it to you live at the shows next year”.

Depeche Mode’s Memento Mori Tour will be their 19th outing and their first in more than five years. The band’s most recent tour, the 2017-2018 Global Spirit Tour, was their longest to date and one of the most lucrative tours of the year, taking in 130 gigs across Europe and North America, with more than 3 million fans coming to see them.

Memento Mori, Depeche Mode’s 15th studio album, will be the band’s follow-up to 2017’s Spirit, which debuted at #1 in 11 countries and peaked in the Top 5 in more than 20 others., Memento Mori will be made available everywhere in Spring 2023 on Columbia Records.

The press release for the announcement reminds us why Depeche Mode are still a force to be reckoned with: “Having sold more than a million records and played to more than 35 million fans worldwide, Depeche Mode remains an ever-evolving and singularly influential musical force.

The tragic end to the life of Andy Fletcher of Depeche Mode rocked the world of music last month. An outpour of love from fans and musicians alike created a testament to his long and storied career as the keyboardist and founder of such a globally influential band. Until now, the circumstances surrounding Fletcher’s death have remained private, but in accordance with the family of the deceased, new details have come to light that can explain this deeply saddening event.

The medical term for what happened to Andy Fletcher is known as Aortic Dissection. This is caused when a tear occurs in the inner lining of the body’s main artery (aorta) and the subsequent pressure causes the inner and middle layers of the aorta to split further (dissect). If blood begins to seep through the outer aortic wall, unfortunately, the effects can be fatal.

According to the Mayo Clinic; “It usually occurs in men in their 60s and 70s. Symptoms of aortic dissection may mimic those of other diseases, often leading to delays in diagnosis. However, when an aortic dissection is detected early and treated promptly, the chance of survival greatly improves.”- which may go some way to understanding how this came about as Fletcher was aged 60 at the time of his passing on the 26th of May this year.

In a heartfelt tribute to their fallen compatriot, the members of Depeche mode stated; “A couple of weeks ago we received the result from the medical examiners, which Andy’s family asked us to share with you now. Andy suffered an aortic dissection while at home on May 26. So, even though it was far, far too soon, he passed away naturally and without prolonged suffering.”

They added; “We had a celebration of Andy’s life in London last week, which was a beautiful ceremony and gathering with a few tears, but filled with the great memories of who Andy was, stories of all of our times together, and some good laughs. Andy was celebrated in a room full of many of his friends and family, our immediate DM family, and so many people who have touched Andy’s and our lives throughout the years. All being together was a very special way to remember Andy and see him off.”

“So thank you for all the love you’ve shown Andy and his family and friends over the last few weeks. It honestly means the world to all of us. Andy you’ll be missed, but certainly not forgotten.

Love, Martin & Dave”

Electronic music pioneer, and foundational member of legendary new wave band Depeche Mode, Andy Fletcher reportedly passed away yesterday at the age of 60. As of yet, no details have been released on the cause of death, but the band have released a statement announcing the events. Tributes from many other artists including Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, and Alison Moyet have been pouring in since the announcement was made last night. You can see the band’s statement below.

“We are shocked and filled with overwhelming sadness with the untimely passing of our dear friend, family member, and bandmate Andy ‘Fletch’ Fletcher.” Writes the band, “Fletch had a true heart of gold and was always there when you needed support, a lively conversation, a good laugh, or a cold pint. Our hearts are with his family, and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts and respect their privacy in this difficult time.”

After joining the band Composition Of Sounds in the last 70s, alongside Martin Gore and Vince Clarke, the group soon recruited singer Dave Gahan. Once the group underwent a name change and became Depeche Mode, the rest is history. The new wave movement has many names associated with it; Duran Duran, Talking Heads, New Order etc. – but not many had the staying power of Depeche Mode, who were still touring up until 2018 off the back of their 14th studio album Spirit. The album made it to no.5 in the UK charts, but throughout the group’s 4-decade career they had managed to bag not 1, but 2, no.1 albums with Ultra and Songs Of Faith And Devotion.

Synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys took to their socials once the news was released, “Fletch was a warm, friendly and funny person who loved electronic music and could also give sensible advice about the music business.”

Lol Tolhurst, known most famously as a founding member of The Cure, was once of the first to pay their respects, “I knew Andy and considered him a friend. We crossed many of the same pathways as younger men. My heart goes out to his family, bandmates, and DM fans.”

After the band’s 2018 tour concluded, their last great moment would be that of their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Fletcher, Gahan, and Gore were joined by former bandmates Vince Clarke and Alan Wilder for the ceremony.

It has also been rumoured that Power’s herself is also set to release a new album of covers.
