The album, which features the singles “Lived A Lie” and “Fresh Start Fever”, was released January 27, 2014 and marked the band’s first record to reach the number one spot on the UK’s official album chart.

The Surrey-based rockers, joined by fellow English alternative band Deaf Havana, will be hitting the road next February for an 8 date stint across the UK, starting in Wolverhampton.

In an Instagram post by frontman Josh Franceschi, he informed fans this tour would be the “only UK shows next year other than our appearance at Slam Dunk.” The 33 year-old also prepared fans for the shows by saying: “With Cavalier Youth turning 10 we’ll be playing a bunch of that as well as some other heat.”

You Me At Six’s latest release and eighth studio album Truth Decay, dropped on February 10, 2023, and saw the band celebrate their career as one of the UK’s biggest modern rock bands. Discussing the album, Franceschi said: “We are at our best when all five of us are on the frontline, living it and breathing it, all five of us swinging, putting our creativity into it. That’s what Truth Decay gives you.”

In other news, You Me At Six were recently announced as headliners for 2024’s Slam Dunk Festival alongside acts such as The All-American Rejects and I Prevail, with Pale Waves, Funeral For A Friend, Asking Alexandria, Waterparks, The Wonder Years and many more acts joining the lineup.

Fans who have signed up to the band’s mailing list by 6pm on Tuesday, November 28 will be eligible to get tickets in a pre-sale. The pre-sale will become available at 10am on Wednesday, November 29. The festival posted on their official Instagram page, “Beyond stoked to announced @Softplayband (formerly known as Slaves) are headlining the Thursday at 2000trees! New name, same songs, same incredible live show!!!”

The band first headlined 2000trees festival in 2017, between releases of their second and third album in 2016 and 2018. Their first album, Are You Satisfied?, reached the top ten of the UK music charts and was nominated for the 2015 Mercury Music Prize. They have performed and have song writing credits with other big UK artists, including Chase and Status, Gorillaz, and Slowthai. They last released music and performed together in 2019, before going on an indefinite hiatus.

The festival will be the rock duo’s first show since reforming as Soft Play. To commemorate the event, the band even said on Instagram: “First gig back headlining @2000trees_festival wtffff. We wanna know what tracks you’d like us to play on the night. Our set is in your hands.”

Playing alongside Soft Play on the Thursday includes big names in rock music such as Skindred, Eagles of Death Metal, American punk rock group The Bronx, and more.

Scheduled to play a plethora of festivals this summer, Hastings band Kid Kapichi are playing a set at 2000trees after completing their 2023 Here’s What You Could Have Won European tour. They last played in 2022, and have moved to the main stage after a successful year and the release of their first album Here’s What You Could Have Won. They said on Instagram: “Happy to be returning to 2000trees festival this year, this time on the main stage. What a festival. What a line up.”

One fan, @ziolipo56, commented on their post, calling them the “best band on the line-up“.

The Friday line-up features Rival Schools, Dinosaur Pile-Up, Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro’s metal side project Empire State Bastard, Prima Queen, and Motherhood alongside headliners Bullet For My Valentine. Kelsey Karter & the Heroines are a highlight, playing the festival after finishing supporting Billy Idol on his American tour. Playing on Saturday under Frank Carter and The Rattlesnakes are Deaf Havana, Black Honey, Electric Six, and American Football.

The other new acts announced include Dinosaur Pile-Up, Hell Is For Heroes, B-Sydes, Bilk, Beach Riot, CARSICK, Congratulations, Clarence, NOISY, Gaffa Tape Sandy, Haggard Cat, and Love Is Noise.

2000trees festival began in 2007, and is one of the UK’s most loved alternative music festivals. The organisers say it is a festival for a community rooted in music. Their manifesto says: “Trees is more than an event. It’s a family gathering based on positive community values. A sense of community, common culture, kinship and collective wellbeing. Music is the foundation for these positive values. Music brings this extended family together, giving everyone a powerful and vivid shared experience. This experience lingers long after the festival is over.”

“”Going Clear” is a song I started writing a long time ago but it wasn’t until recently that I really realised it’s a song purely about addiction and the effect it has on loved ones and family members,” James said in a press statement. “It’s a very straightforward and simple song but having gone through the years of substance abuse and seen the pain it brings first hand, this one really hits home.”

The new album recorded in a studio in Hastings, with producer Mike Horner will see the duo go on a journey of self-discovery exploring a multitude of stirring themes and tackling social issues such as imposter syndrome and conquering formidable life obstacles.

Speaking of the album on social media, the pair wrote: “We are so excited to share “Going Clear” with you all and to announce our new record The Present is a Foreign Land. So much hard work and love has gone into this album and we can’t wait for you to hear it. Thanks for sticking by us – it all starts now.”

The Present Is A Foreign Land is set for release on July 15, with pre-orders available through Deaf Havana’s website.

The LP will mark the band’s sixth studio album, and of course, their first since bassist Lee Wilson and drummer Tom Ogden left the outfit last year. Sharing news of Ogden and Wilson’s departure at the time, the Veck-Gildodi brothers wrote: “Early last year we were all ready to head our separate ways and call it quits. We’d had an incredible journey but like all the best journeys it felt like it was time for it to end. Then the pandemic hit and we had no choice but to stop. We would like to thank our brothers and day one bandmates, Tom and Lee for slogging it out with us up until this point. We wish them and their families all the best and every success for the future.”

2000 Trees Festival have revealed that, the Detroit experimental hardcore band, The Armed, are among the final band’s to be revealed as part of the #7DaysOfTrees – which will take place this week and will see one band announced each day to complete this year’s electric line-up.

Speaking about this year’s line-up, Festival organiser, James Scarlett, said: “I’m very proud of the Trees line up this year and I think the thing getting me most excited at the moment is the number of bands that feel like they are about to break big.

“If you don’t know all the bands from the following list then get on it now. Culture Abuse, Dune Rats, YONAKA, Free Throw, Drug Church, Gouge Away, ANGEL DU$T, Can’t Swim… I could go on!”

The Armed, are among the final band’s to be announced as part of the #7DaysOfTrees, it comes after The Wildhearts and Raketkanon were revealed as part of the #7DaysOfTrees. The Detroit-based band will be joining an already electric bill that includes a trio of stellar headliners including Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls, You Me At Six, and deaf Havana will headline the three day festival, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday receptively.

Speaking about their headline spot, You Me At Six said: “We’re really looking forward to headlining 2000trees Festival this summer. We’ve heard many amazing things about the festival, in particular it’s unrivalled atmosphere and location. The line-up is always superb, so it’s going to be a pleasure to be a part of things this year. It’s going to be a special show.”

Deaf Havana’s last release was 2017’s ‘All Those Countless Nights’, but according to the band, this album has been turned around much faster than any of their previous efforts. The record took just six months from writing to release, a deliberate choice to keep the songs fresh and relatable to the band.

In an interview with DIY, frontman James explained that the album was more “self-indulgent” than anything he’d made before, and warned that he “might alienate some people who might not ‘get’ the album”. However, he reiterated that the band were “behind him all the way”, and that all of them were super excited to play the new tracks live.

The six-piece group continue to move further and further away from their post-hardcore early days, as they progress as both musicians and people in their lives. Gone are the yelps and howls that made up their first few records, and have been replaced by taking advantage of frontman James Veck-Gilodi’s soaring and versatile vocal range.

Having supported Bruce Springsteen at this year’s Hard Rock Calling event in London the group continue to go from strength to strength, and have today released the song as a reward to their fans. Earlier on they posted on their Facebook page “We really want you to hear some new music, we might get in trouble but fuck it! 6pm we’ll post a new song, you guys deserve it x”, showing appreciation to their adorning and ever-growing fan base.

Deaf Havana’s uupcoming album Old Souls is released on September 16th. They will then head out on tour in support of the album in October, with main support coming from Fightstar frontman Charlie Simpson. Check out the video for Kings Road Ghosts below.
