The collaboration came about following a surprise performance at Glastonbury earlier this year. Brown joined IDLES on the Other Stage to perform the track, having earlier played his own set on the West Holts stage. The moment gained traction online, with fans praising the unexpected pairing.

Where the album version gives no-nonsense advice about being reliable but not taken advantage of, the remix lowers the pitch and tempo, bringing the track into gloomier territory. Brown’s frantic rap delivery contrasts starkly with Joe Talbot’s slower, more deliberate vocals, creating an unsettling juxtaposition that has caused a stir online.  

Reactions to the remix have been mixed. While some fans welcomed the creative shift, others questioned its direction. One Reddit user wrote: “Nice way to increase their reach, but it’s a personal ‘meh’ from me. I heard five seconds of it and prefer the original.”

IDLES are no strangers to collaboration, with Talbot previously working with acts like METZ, and LCD Soundsystem on their track ‘Dancer’. The band’s willingness to experiment was also highlighted in their appearance on CBeebies’ Hey Duggee!’s ‘Stick Song’, where they gave the children’s track a punk spin.

The remix reflects a growing crossover between punk and rap, two genres with shared roots in anti-establishment energy. The origins of this blend go all the way back to the origins of rap, and became mainstream with Run-DMC’s cover of ‘Walk This Way’. It has since been built up by acts like Beastie Boys and Limp Bizkit, and more recently, Death Grips.  

TANGK itself received praise for its more personal approach, with Mojo’s Andrew Perry describing IDLES as “tuneful, approachable geezers capable of love, and sharing it with the world.” The album went straight to number one in the UK Album Charts. The remix, however, sees the band embracing the raw energy of both punk and rap, with more emphasis on the experimental side of the record, than keeping Brown’s lyrics tied to the themes present in the original song.

Danny Brown’s recent collaborations have included electronic duo Frost Children and country character Wheeler Walker Jr., contributing to a larger back catalogue of eclectic crossovers. Neither Brown nor IDLES have commented on the remix, though both shared a joint Instagram post featuring their Glastonbury performance and the remix cover art.

The remix is available now on all major streaming platforms.

The project has been titled The Mountain Has Fallen, taking it’s cue from Shadow’s long-awaited 2016 studio album. The EP is four tracks long and avalable to stream now.

The project’s first tack ‘Systematic’ feature’s New York rap lord Nas, and was premiered during the fourth season of HBO’s Silicon Valley tv show, furthering the show’s reputation for outstanding soundtrack choices.

‘Horror Show’ also features Danny Brown, continuing the momentum from 2016’s outstanding Atrocity Exhibition with a 24 karat banger with one of hip-hop’s most respected producers.

‘Corridors’, the EP’s final track is a collaboration with the aforementioned Oscar winner Steven Price, who has scored films like Suicide Squad (boo), Garvity (which he won the Oscar for), and most recently Baby Driver (which is pretty good.

Prior to the EP dropping, Shadow spoke to Rolling Stone, describing the project as a “victory lap” after 2016’s The Mountain Will Fall.

“Prior to the last album, I made a lot of high-risk moves behind the scenes, including walking away from a comfortable major-label deal […] My thinking was, If The Mountain Will Fall LP ends up being successful, I’d be in a much more positive place in my career.

“With everything that’s happened since it came out, I feel like I bet on myself and won. So I guess you could say that this new EP is my version of a victory lap. It’s a celebration, and an extension of those confident steps forward.”

A remixed edition of the Califronia-based DJ’s most lauded album Endtroducing was also released at the end of 2016, to commemorate the majestic album’s 20th anniversary.

Following a set at 2017’s Glastonbury Festival- as well as joining Run the Jewels during their incendiary set on the Pyramid Stage- DJ Shadow is set to continue with a tour of the UK throughout August and most of the Autumn. you can see the full list of dates below.

Muse will return to the Festival for the first time since headlining in 2011, when they played ‘Origin of Symmetry’ in its entirety. It will be the third time overall that they have headlined the festival. The news comes after rave reviews for their performance on Glastonbury’s Pyramid stage back in June and fans heading to Reading and Leeds will be hoping for more of the same. NME also reports that there were calls earlier this year for the band to play a set list chosen by fans in more intimate club settings in a future tour. Reacting to the news, via NME, Muse said, ‘We’re very excited to be playing Reading and Leeds again. More news about our plans for 2017 coming in the new year,’ while festival organiser Melvin Benn added, I’m thrilled to be able to announce Muse as the first headliner for Reading and Leeds 2017. Their incredible live show promises to be an unforgettable performance – we have so much more to announce and I can’t wait to reveal the rest of the line up.’

Along with headliners Muse, the festival has also confirmed a host of other acts, including fellow British acts Glass Animals While She Sleeps, who should feel at home in Leeds as a Yorkshire band, Bastille, and a clutch of artists from across the pond to add international flavour to the event, including Major Lazer, At The Drive-In, Against The Current and Danny Brown. Drum n’ Bass pioneer Andy C will also appear, as will Canadian hip-hop artist Tory Lanez. The line-up represents a range of experience and notoriety, with Andy C and Danny Brown, who released his fourth album this year, veterans of the live scene while Against The Current will be playing their first set at the festivals and only released their debut album, ‘In Our Bones’ earlier this year. Tory Lanez also debuted on the album charts this year, with ‘I Told You’, which was released in August. Although English metalcore outfit While She Sleeps have only released two albums to date, by the time they take to the stage next year, they will have released a third. Entitled, ‘You Are We’, it is scheduled to come out on the 21^st April next year. It will also be Major Lazer’s only UK Festival appearance in 2017 – so if you want to catch them, do so there.

As organiser Melvin Benn states, there are still hundreds of acts to be announced to fill eight stages and complete the festival’s line up, as for who these acts might be, The Manchester Evening News reports that Kasabian are strongly rumoured to make the bill.
