‘Grand Plan‘ is the first album in three years after the release of 2017’s ‘Emerging Adulthood‘. This upcoming album is also Croll’s first work after he has moved to California from his base in Liverpool, which becomes a big inspiration for the album as well. The 29-year-old shared a statement about ‘Grand Plan‘ on his social media.

“It’s a whole new sound for me, something I feel best represents my musical influences, and also tells the story of a huge life change from start to finish!” Croll talked about the making of the new LP with Matthew E. White in Richmond, Virginia. See the post and the album art from the post below.

I have some exciting news, not only have I released two new songs, but I’m also announcing my new album! Firstly the tracks, these are two of my favorites! One is called ‘Grand Plan’, a track that I wrote on vocals and guitar from the foot of my bed in Koreatown whilst struggling to find my footing in an entirely new country. The other is called ‘Work’, which is about the excitement of a new relationship, and the jump from something casual to something more serious. Now the Album, Grand Plan! I’m SO excited for you all to hear this album. I recorded it in Richmond,Virginia, with the most talented musicians I’ve ever gotten to play with, and it was produced by the Matthew E. White. In addition to the album announcement, the Staffordshire-born musician also premiered two new songs from the record. The first is the title track, which is about the singer attempting to break new ground, while the other track, “Work”, recounts the singer’s excitement in finding a new relationship.

Croll explained that he “wrote ‘Grand Plan’ a couple of months into my move to California, things had got off to a tough start with having to start life from scratch again.” He also added, “On one hand it’s incredibly exciting to live in such a creative city and be surrounded by very talented people, but on the other hand (and in my case) it can also be quite overwhelming and make you feel like you’re lagging behind everyone else. ‘Grand Plan’ was about that feeling, being on the back foot, feeling like everyone but yourself had this grand idea and plan for life and you’re still figuring out the basics.”

Prior to those two new tracks, Croll already unveiled four songs from the record, “Yesterday“, “Stay in L.A.“, “Actor with a Loaded Gun“, and “Rain“. All of these songs showcases Croll’s experiment in new sound, which leans to a more folky and emotional side, and they will finally compile a 12-track album released this August. In support of the forthcoming full-length, the “From Nowhere” singer was set to play one show at Oslo Hackney in London on March 19. However, due to the outbreak of coronavirus, he decided to push back it to September 8. Tickets are available via See Tickets.

Croll first emerged in an indie scene with his 2014 debut, ‘Sweet Disarray‘. The record helped him earn much attention in the scene, with the album entering number 26 on the UK Albums Chart and well-known singles like “In/Out” and “Compliment Your Soul“. Croll’s upcoming third album will mark his return to the music scene in three years. Emerging Adulthood is his second studio album released back in July 2017. The album spawned singles like “One of Us“, “Bad Boy”, “Away from Today“, and “Swim“.

Regarding “Bad Boy”, Croll spoke with Clash about how the song incorporates with the album’s theme of “growing up”:

“It was about this theme of growing up that’s on the album, when you’re on the verge of adulthood. … I think ‘Bad Boy’ is one of those, where it’s that phase of teenage life where either the girls wanted to be going out with a bad boy or the boys wanted to be the bad boy. It seemed to be a common rite of passage for a lot of teenagers. I felt like it was quite funny to look back at that,” said Croll.

The Staffordshire indie heartthrob is, however, better known for his 2014’s debut album Sweet Disarray. The album charted at number 26 on UK Albums Chart, with well-known singles “Compliment Your Soul” and “From Nowhere” featured as soundtracks of FIFA 14 and Grand Theft Auto V.

The now 29-year-old singer from Staffordshire is ready to drop his third LP after moving to America for recording the album. Stay tuned for Croll’s new music this year.
